You are definitely making progress... She does turn over and hopefully she will be running soon!!
Yeah man I do 😂
Wow, Grasshopper is closer to coming back to life, can't wait to hear him screaming!
Hopefully next video will be the one 😬🙏
Grasshopper is coming along nicely. I started working at a truck garage at age 13 cleaning parts and small things. I hated the sound of a Detroit Coming down the lane because I knew it would be an oil leaking mess. I spent hours at a parts washer cleaning & hours scraping gaskets. Now 44 years later I love & miss the sound of an old 2 stroke Detroit.
Lol, you have a great heritage right there my friend! 👍
the York show in 2015 was my first truck show it was unbelievable, I was hooked i go to Mcungie every year now I work 2 miles from the York fairgrounds so i will be there every day.
Man you’re blessed to be that near McCungie too! 😬👍
Love the sound of that 671 Jimmy bring back great moment of the good old days 😎 great video to 👂👍✋💪
It’s definitely addictive isn’t it? Lol. And thanks 😊
Sarge ain't no garage queen!! Sarge needs to be outside protecting the garage!
There ya go! And I can appease him by taking him out for a ride every so often since our winter has been so mild! Yay!
That bracket is Fantastic😊
Dane you definitely don't mess around! Getting it done. I live next to Bangor Maine and can't wait for the truck show . Love the K100.
My impatience works in my favor sometimes lol. Hey!…next truck show June 1rst JAMBOREE Conneaut Ohio 😬😬😬
Congrats, Dane and Mr. Wizard! A mouse in the house was the louse!
Lol 😂…. May have even been a rat! 😮
Hi Dane can't wait to see grasshopper when you get him done and running please keep the videos coming 😊
You bet Shelly, next video should be running 🙏
Looks like Grasshopper is coming along nicely!!
Dane Grasshopper is coming along nicely.
Thanks David I’m finally encouraged about the project 😬
Great video Dane, I am so excited for grasshopper to come to life all the hard work is paying off looking forward to seeing more 😊😊😊😊😊😊😊
Thanks Gerald hoping to have it running next episode 😬🙏
Seeing Sarge makes me jealous. Over in Massachusetts is a 9500 tractor with a 6-71. It would be neat, but hard to justify at this point. I’m glad that Grasshopper is coming along so well.
Oh ya Sarge is terror around here lol. When he barks out orders you learn to comply 😂😂😂 thanks for watching
Great video Mr Scotts grasshopper coming back to life you doing a really good job fix it up and adding new parts I like the sink you have in your shop to clean the parts nice signs display in the garage you have a great week and weekend buddy stay warm 10-4🚛 nice haircut 👍
Thanks Melvin and for watching too! 😬👍
@@DaneScottsTRUCKERSLOUNGE anytime buddy 👍
Progress being made! Great that you have a skilled welder/ fabricator to turn too when needed, looks great.
I know, I’d be lost without them 😬👍
What a cliff-hanger. Will or won't Grasshopper be running by the end of the episode. Well no, but seemingly only because of cosmetics!. This was an excellent episode, you guys have made progress in huge great leaps and bounds. You had a mouse, Nicholas of OLD SKUUL GARAGE with the Dodges found a frog.
By the size of the tail it may well have been a stinkin rat! Anyways a frog is even funnier! I love Nicks content it’s great to see a young guy so talented. 😬👍
Well your way on the way now. The replacement hinge looks great. This was a great episode . Keep up the great work
Thanks Bryan, we’re definitely picking up the pace Headin towards Jamboree time 😬
Great show, the Grasshopper is coming right along!
Thanks for watching Frank 😬👍
Sarge is tough, but Sarge is also old and as an older man myself, I can say that Sarge would likely appreciate being inside or at least under a roof.
What, no video of the hinge install? That had to come with a degree of drama.
A mouse in the crankcase? Now that's crazy!
Engine cranks, that's a good sign.
Nice, new bumper, thank you for sticking with the original style bumper and not using an aftermarket replacement.
Ya I wish I had enough room for them all. 😩I definitely wanted the old school bumper and no “Dozerblade” ones lol. 😬
Keeping history rolling. One two stroke Detroit at a time :-)
Amen! 🙌
Grasshopper is looking better already! Love the new bumper! Well done, Dane! 😊
Thanks Michael, and for watching 😬👍
Dane I'm sure glad i found your site a old trucker and been around trucks all my life dad drove to but after wreaking in98 lucky to be here buddro you and the others make me happy and watching your shows i love .... sure would like to find a t shirt with your logo on it
I will have new shirts for the show but currently have some only in mediums and smalls. The others sold right out.
Great progress ! Grasshopper will be firering up in no time. Friggen mice ! I'm glad you received the sign. it's gonna look great in the Truckers Lounge.... Kevin H
Thanks Kevin, yes sir it’s on the wall with the Detroit Crackerbox sign. Looks awesome!!!!! Thanks again
Meeses! They can cause havoc without chewing the wires. Looking forward to the maiden voyage around the neighborhood!
You know it! I am too 😬👍
This video shows how much time and patience it takes to get these beautiful trucks back rolling down the road...There are some small.talented shops that can make the difference to your build...
Don't give up think outside the box
You know it Ed, it takes a community for sure.
Sarge sounds a little grumpy. Lol finding a dead mouse in the oil pan with sluge. Uck the new parts look good. Hopefully you have grasshopper up and running soon.
Thanks John it was definitely nasty smelling too! 🤮
Thumbs up on the Kenworth. Looking forward to the next videos on this old truck. It's only a year younger than me. Maybe I need restoring lol.
I think we all do lol 😂
That 71 359 looks really sharp!!
Can’t wait for spring to get it to a show! 😬
Man! That hinge is awesome and perfectly copied. What excellent fabrication. Same for the front bumper too. I like the old era styling but chromed out look, that will be real sweet! I cant believe you found a mouse in the oil pan of that engine! Ive never seen or heard of that before and definitely not something I would have guessed lol.
I know right? It may even have been a small rat for crying out loud! The tail was pretty beefy. What a smell too🤮lol
Get one of those sweet Dodge cabbies ready and come up to the GMC Jamboree with it …. I’ll save ya a spot 😬😬😬🙏
@@DaneScottsTRUCKERSLOUNGE the rat juices may be providing a bit more lubrication for that oil! I wont be able to make it to the second annual gmc jamboree but we will see about the third annual lol!
GH LOOKING GOOD 😊
Starting to look like a runner 👍
I know…. Very excited to see! 🙏
Hello Dane,
Another informative video, its amazing how you continually come up with such great content. 😊
Thanks Bert, I think the trucks dictate the agenda lol. 😬👍
Good show Dane always a pleasure keep on KWing 👌
Thanks Carl and for watching 😬👍
Looking good Dane! Great iron to work on, and a labor of love.
Thanks Scott, great name by the way😜lol.
@@DaneScottsTRUCKERSLOUNGE my first name is Scott, my middle name is Dane. No kidding!
Man Dane, you sure do nice work - and when you can't/don't, you find someone who can. That new bumper is awesome! Sarge's bumper is awesome too - it looks somewhat OEM!
One thing I'd change would be to box in the bottom of that new cab hinge bracket, as the driver side one appears to be. I guess if you have the hinge pin pass through a sleeve, and the sleeve is fully welded at both ends/sides, it should be OK - but I still like them to match...🙄
I see what you’re saying Dan, honestly I never gave it a thought about matching the other side. 🤷🏼♂️was only focused on functionality lol.
Steve Feschiak FSC Trucking here on UA-cam;is currently in the process of fully restoring an old & vintage,1983 Ford CL9000 cabover that used to be a mobile chappel;that he had bought about a year ago that was sitting at a
T/A truckstop for 27 years,in Washington State.
Yes I’ve followed his channel, great content.
Big job mate but you and your mates are killing it 👍🇦🇺🇦🇺🍻
Thanks for watching 😬👍
Another great video Dane🎉
Thank you sir I appreciate it. Love your killer old school content as well. 😬👍
O-H-I-O Porter greetings 🇺🇸 That hinge assembly is quite beefy & cool! That takes some fabricating skills! Whew! You might take that 12 volt starter apart, clean & lube it & it might work just fine. There was quite a big nest around the flywheel. Hey, I think you said it was sitting outside. That will cause some issues. I love the rounding of the bumper edges…makes it look so cool! You might even find some more coins in the truck, so keep your eyes open. I would love to be there when you fire that beast up for the 1st time! Joel & I both! Hmmm! Grasshopper, he is coming right along! Good stuff! 🥰😎✌️
Yes it’s quite possible all that got pressed in between the flywheel and bendix and caused the issue. Rotten varmits!!!
Just so you know that CL9000 I just featured is on marketplace and very reasonable!!! 😮
@@DaneScottsTRUCKERSLOUNGE 🇺🇸 Thanks for the Heads Up! That might be of the vids I missed out on. Got several projects that I’m working on when the weather permits. I shall check it out if possible. Blessings.😎🤩✌️
Great progress, thanks for sharing 👍💨💨
And thank you for watching 😬👍
Great show.
Hopefully be able to see you at your truck show.
Wish l could help you work on the truck.
Have a great week buddy 😊
Thanks buddy, looking forward to maybe meeting ya, take care and continue to heal well. 😬👍
Dane great video super job on fab work and 8v71 looks great👍
Thanks Dom! I know you can relate to making those needed custom pieces.😬👍
With a Detroit motor just the slightest turn of the key it will start. With the Peterbuilt the contrast between the Alcoas and the tyres looks unreal. The yank tank on the hoist and the K100.
Dane, the Ohio Vintage Truck Jamboree is Friday-Saturday this year. Not on Sunday. We moved it back a day because Sunday was always so quiet.
Oh wow! Thankyou for the correction…. Slipped right by me 🙄
Hi Dane. Love your stuff. Nice job on the bumper, and all the other fab work. One thing you might want to check out before you install the bumper
though. You notice on the old bumper it had step holes, and the new one doesn’t ? The step hole performs a dual purpose. When you have the
steering wheel hard over, the pitman arm will move forward and will actually protrude out into the step hole ! So check that out or you will mess
it the bumper by pushing it forward. Here in Canada we didn’t have that style of K 100 cab. When I say that the Canadian cab had the KW sign
not the individual letters spelling out Kenworth. Also the headlight panels might be different. I believe we had the K 523 cabover before the K 100.
The 523 had a chrome fold down panel to access the rad filler neck. Also the electrical was accessible through a hinged corner panel on the
drivers side corner panel. You could stand on the ground and open the panel to work on the wiring. Not one of Kenworths best innovations.
Thinking if you go with that grearshift head, unless the lever lifts out like a bar as in the K 523, it’s not likely the assembly will pass through the
hole in the cab floor when you Jack up the cab. Curios, was this truck assembled at the Kansas City plant ? If so maybe the serial number starts
with the letter J. In the early days KW used a letter followed by 6 numbers for the VIN. My first K 100 was assembled in Montreal in 76. M985211,
My 82 was M810301. After many years and federal regs required a 17 character Vin KW reused the old numbers and my 82 came up as a Mexican
built cab over garbage truck chassis. Good thing I had both of my final build sheet books. Listed every component used to build the truck, also some dealers had the build book on microfiche. Those were the days my friend. I have a story about being denied a fuel permit by the state of
Vermont because I couldn’t convince then I only had a 7 character vin. More to the story another time.
Wow! Thanks for all the info. I was trying to figure out why the square holes and decided it was for air circulation but didn’t really seem like it was needed with a skinny bumper. I also figured it was obviously a weak spot on the steel one let alone the aluminum so opted to leave them out. I will definitely check the clearance. Thank you!
A mouse in the oil pan of all things!!
It was disgusting for sure! 🤮
@@DaneScottsTRUCKERSLOUNGE I bet!!
Great job Dane👍
Thanks Russ 😬👍
Hey driver! Good job on making progress, coming along good looks like. Maybe need to call truck...mousetrap lol! Keep up the good work, 10-4 driver im gone
Thanks Driva 😬👍
Great Channel! The caddy channel is great also!
Thank you Kenneth, I’ll have more Caddy content once spring rolls around or maybe even sooner.
Nice color green
Thanks, will probably keep the color scheme.
Oh man Dane that's FANTASTIC on Grasshopper, can't wait to hear him come to life !! The cab tilt bracket is a perfect example -- the bumper also -- of "" it's not always what ya know BUT WHO ya know "" great work to and shout-out to the business that fab those up for you , getting long so I'll end it but before I go another shout-out to You Dane for bringing these videos to us AND MR WIZARD for his time and all the others behind the scenes GREAT JIB DANE looking forward to June 1st ,SAFE TRAVELS 👍👍👍👍
Thank you David, you’re absolutely right it takes a community of awesome people to make these projects happen, and done right too! I’m blessed to have them. AND all of you 😬👍
Just thumbing through made my day. Great progress on grasshopper. Looking forward to more .have a great week as always excellent
Thanks Mark, hope you’re having a great week, you’ll love the next episode 😬
Sharp new bumper!!
That quarter is the same year I was born. 1967
There ya go! A good year indeed. 😬👍
I like that
You have already made a ton of progress. You don't mess around. I'm looking forward to the next video for sure. Is that one of the engines that has been known to "run away" in the past?
Yes it is but we make sure the injectors are all free before starting. That’s what the “throat” flapper valve is for in case it does you just drop it with a cable and choke out the engine.
👍👍👍
That is the Year I was Born 😅
Do you need a little restoration? Lol 😂
Hell ya
That was no mouse..that was Rat Fink!!!
I think your right 🥴
Hey Dane, really enjoy your content, enjoyable to watch your personality is infectious. I just wonder what it takes to turn the Detroit into a Chevy “mouse “motor too bad you didn’t find a rat in there you would’ve had a big block lol
Lol, it was pointed out to me by the tail it WAS a rat 😮😂😂😂 Thanks for watching
I hope you're able to clean the mouse nest out of the bellhousing and were able to clean up the ring gear on the flywheel. And was wondering will the clutch disengage or is it possibly stuck from the mice being in there ?
Yes sir we got it cleaned out and have yet to find out the answer to that very question. Stay tuned 😬👍
Boo-yah!! that is some excellent fab work for sure, the cool scream of an 8V71 Detroit coming soon! And I know those as exhaust elbows, where are you getting them? I need some for my 1972 352 and my 1971 282
Oh ya Bud, your hearing is very sensitive…. You may be right 😬 “Big Rig Chrome Shop” has the elbows and “funnel” under the heading “tilt-cab” I just ordered them.
Hellow buddy
Hey Tommy ✋
You look like David Lee Roth
Definitely never heard that one but Eddie VanHalen was the reason I switched to guitar from drums way back when. 😬🤘
@@DaneScottsTRUCKERSLOUNGE That’s awesome. I’m talking about when DLR was young of course. If you had long hair you could start a tribute band .🤘🤘
Rare Sargent model single axle semi Coe cummins pulled d6 dozer on 3o my plan. Was. Too find close match pic bed. Widen etc made one hell pic up
Sounds like it 😮😬👍
If nothing else, pulling the pan off of that 8v71 to get the expired rodent and whatever muck was in there out was well worth it! Curious…what’s the HP rating on it? Many automatically assumes every 8v71NA to be a 318, which simply isn’t true…this being a ‘66, could it possibly be a 290?
Are there any future plans for adding engine brakes? Liking what that new front bumper does for the appearance of this old truck….
I’d have to ask Billy Parker good point. He has Jake’s for it if I want them. Ya I didn’t want a dozerblade and you can’t get these factory ones anymore
@@DaneScottsTRUCKERSLOUNGE opinions are plentiful in regards to bumpers…..for what mine is worth, the custom-fabbed replacement bumper is PERFECT.
While you are not using your Cadillac , why dont you have rust repaired and restore it it is av really nice classic car
I’m itchin to get to it …. All in good time. Thanks😬👍
you said you got heat shields for the 79 k100 where did you get them
I’d have to look James, and I will, but pretty sure Raneys was the vendor.
What engine and gearbox is in Grasshopper?
It’s a Detroit Diesel 8V-71 with a 13 speed transmission. Thanks for watching 😬👍
In 67 that quarter probably bought a hamburger and a cup of coffee.
You’re probably right! Crazy 😬
There’s girl grasshoppers to
Ya know? 🤔never thought of that lol 😂
what year is your Pete
