    This is a star wars video about video games, but not jedi fallen order with cal kestis or battlefront 2 by ea and dice, the force unleashed, or even lego star wars the skywalker saga. I hope that game has characters from the clone wars, The Mandalorian, and the book of boba fett. I sure do love the prequel trilogy, sequel trilogy, and original trilogy as well. I hope we get the Obi-Wan Kenobi Trailer soon starring Ewan Mcgregor and Hayden Christensen as Anakin Skywalker

    hey so it looks like we're getting a switch port too! It seems to just be a port of the wii version, including the dueling mods, so just refer to that section of the video but instead it's in HD.

      I was wondering which version of the game it was. I guess porting over the PSP version would have meant they had to do extra work to get in the motion controls.

    Fun fact: The developers of TFU were actually originally supposed to make the original PSP, PS2, and Wii copies of the game hence why you have all these different levels such as a more in depth cloud city and the multiple visits to the Jedi Temple. You also have more in depth lightsaber customizations allowing you to even collect lightsabers from already established characters which basing off memory, were just cosmetics which were fun if you wanted to play as your favorite characters like Obi-Wan or Anakin. In the middle of production however, Lucasarts wanted the dev team to focus on what was known then as next gen with the release of PC, 360, and PS3. They then had to push back the original deadline and split apart different teams to tackle each version of the game; what was then current gen and their next gen. Due to time constrains and them having to figure out new technology and programs for the next gen they were unable to put everything they originally had into the next gen which left out key story moments that is found in the older gen. Storylines such as Starkiller meeting his father in the Jedi Temple, exploring a more familiar cloud city. Technically speaking the 360 and PS3 versions are the definitive as it is the closest to their true vision of the game with how Starkiller is portrayed, the mechanics and flow of everything, but storyline wise the older gen expands on everything that was provided in the newer game. This information is provided in Sam Witwer's (The voice/mocap actor to Starkiller) streams he has done with some of the devs from the original 2 games where they talk about the creation of TFU and behind the scenes of the game while playing the original PC port of TFU1

    • @DarthTingleBinks
      @DarthTingleBinks 2 роки тому +2

      I'm actually positive that the 360/PS3/PC version is the definitive in terms of story as well. Sure, the Jedi Temple segments were cut and later added as DLC (which I never knew until now), but the maps in the next gen version were better made, the combat was actually difficult to a degree, and the graphics and cutscenes were almost entirely different aside from the dialoge. Hell, the Kashyyyk mission is almost entirely different, with completely new cutscenes, dialogue and gameplay portions that weren't in the version versions. They also had you okay during the escape from the Imperial Medical Ship, as well as actually have you pull down the Star Destroyer on Raxus Prime, which was left to a cutscene in the other versions of the game.
      On top of this, the second Nar Shadaa and Bespin missions were more or less combined into one, which was surprisingly better than the missions it combined from the old gen version of the game. Sure, there's no explanation as to how or why that one senator shows up at the end, and you don't explore Bespin a whole lot, but it's greatly shortening down 2 missions into a single, more coherent story that only focuses on the main plot points. Also, Rahm Kota's dialogue during the escape on Bespin is great, even if he doesn't actually do any fighting. Proxy being a boss was new, and fighting against "Darth Maul" was super cool.
      Frankly, I'm disappointed the game had the same story, because the one thing I disliked was the relationship between Starkiller and Juno. The two barely interacted in person, and their relationship wasn't set up at all before the kiss, let alone before Darth Vader literally stabbing Starkiller in the back and branding Juno a traitor. The old gen version tries to fix that by adding in some stuff with the second Jedi Temple mission, but it still doesn't work. Especially when the cutscenes fail to really show much. The next gen version, however, somewhat sell the romance on a purely visual level as the facial expressions and animations are much better. Some of the dialogue, while the same, is also acted differently, thus lending Sligh more credibility to the romance. But it's still not great.
      Now, I have never played the Wii version of Force Unleashed 2, so hopefully that's just the same game as the 360 version. Hopefully.

      @Kristopher Prime I actually think the graphics of the PS2 version hold up even compared to the PS3. Granted the cinematics are great but as far as gameplay graphics goes I find some scenes better done in the PS2 version rather than PS3/Xbox. For example the planet Felucia. In the PS2 it's colorful, beautiful and a very lively planet. But in the PS3 and Xbox versions Felucia looks like a grey dead world.

    Ah man, memories. Was the lead concept artist on the PS2 version of this game ( and Wii, PSP also, more or less ) Never seen a team pour more love and effort into a game and we really tried to wring out every drop of performance the PS2 could muster. Great video, summed things up very nicely! From a time back when we would crunch a texture down to 256 colours, then wonder if we could get away with just 8 to save memory ;)

    • @SafetyRabbit
      @SafetyRabbit 2 роки тому +2

      @@brotbrotsen1100 I don’t think I played it post-release, no. You play through so much of it over and over while in development that it would probably feel quite odd to sit down and try to experience it as a player might. That and you’re looking at everything thinking ‘Oh, that mapping is slightly off… that animation doesn’t quite clip at the point we wanted.’ :). I guess in a way that does sort of spoil it, but you have other kinds of memories you’ve built up of that game, experiencing the thing coming to life through iterations. I think most developers would say that hearing someone else played your game and enjoyed it is every bit of the satisfaction they’d need from a game and more than makes up for not being able to play it through with fresh eyes.

      Experiencing a beloved childhood game through yet another lense has been incredibly cool!
      Can I just say your work on Felucia was phenomenal? I loved it, it was gorgeous. It looks pretty bad on the PC/360/PS3, and is an example why I consider that generation to be visually worse off than the one that came before it!
      Having Vader's armor come off as you fight him was such a satisfying touch that is much appreciated. And fighting the Emperor with a lightsaber feels so much better!

  • @inkrot
    @inkrot 2 роки тому +71

    The PS2 version was actually the first version of the game. It was in development hell for a while until the 360/ps3 came out. Lucasarts finalized the 360/ps3 games and then offloaded the PS2/PSP/Wii/DS to other devs to finish up the mess they were. Thats why the Old gen versions of the game had the jedi temple missions whereas it was DLC for the newer gen consoles. Overall good video tho. I came here because I wanted to see what all the different versions were like since I bought the Force Unleashed 1 for DS/PC/Xbox and FU2 for PC/Xbox. Might buy the switch version since I love this game so much haha.

    The rabbit hole goes a bit deeper. Initially this game was supposed to be an RPG where you would chose whether to support or attack different factions as you progressed. I'll never forget the bug "Attack button is the same as the talk button". Which was closed as will not fix, since they ditched the RPG idea altogether and when for 3rd person action/adventure.
    After nearly 2 years of testing we were losing our minds on the PS2 team. And we would issue ourselves challenges like. Finish the game without using your lightsaber. lol

    Only had the PSP version and didn't know how much was different. Wii/PSP versions being similar I'm used to researching with games from this gen like James Cameron's Avatar the Game or Medal of Honor Heroes type situations but as vast as this though is something else. Always tried to see how far I could get in the additional modes though. Great video.

      I had no idea there even was a novel. Do you know what version of the story the book leans towards? Or is it kind of a mix? (e.g, did Starkiller find Kota on Bespin or Nar Shaada? Go to Bespin early or later?)

    I always loved how the krome studios version (ps2,psp,wii) had more levels and they were longer. There is also a lot of story points and some plots that are canon to the TFU story that are completely cut out of the 360/ps3/pc version. Like Starkiller find Kota on Nar Shadaa where he fell in the intro to Starkiller, but in the 360 version he finds him on cloud city which makes for a 10 minute level. On the krome version, he finds him on nar shadaa and is about a 20 minute level and he goes to cloud city to help Kotas friend, and imperial senator thats been captured by mandalorian criminals and taken over the city. All of that is cut on the 360 version. Even on the 360 version of cloud city, its not in the same area and isnt even almost as fleshed out. Also, the jedi temple levels put together are longer and better than the jedi temple DLC in the 360 version. I will say though, the Darth Starkiller DLC make up a lot for what didnt come out on the 7th gen versions. One of the only things that wasnt in the krome version that was in the lucasarts version is a fight between darth maul (proxy) and starkiller. That part of raxus prime 2 doesnt fit the story at all, and proxy trying to achieve his programming to kill starkiller is a plotline that never made sense or was interesting. And I feel that bringing a darth maul hologram to fight was a little forced. I just find it funny how as a base game, the PSP version has way more content than literally every other version.

    I actually played the PS2 version and liked it a lot and this was the version that I was accustomed to and how I remember it. When I went back 2 years ago and finally played the other version of it (360/PS3) I was taken aback from how much I personally felt was missing. Yeah the graphics weren’t as good and didnt have the other “features” but for me it was more fun and longer.
