OK you just cleared a big thing. I rented this game, did like 100% when it came out, had fun. Then, years later I bought it again and...it was entirely different compared to how I remembered it. I knew there was different versions, but my child brain thought I played in on the gamecube, but I was in fact playing on the PS2 version which is why I was so confused. All in all, thank you
Ive only every played the ps2 version and now im so curious about the other versions. My experience is basically the same with the original Tony Hawk Pro Skater games (1-4) ive only played the ps1 versions and just recently within the last couple years i found out about and saw the huge differences in the in the ps2 versions that ive never played
I've played 4 different versions of this game with the 360, wii, psp and that el crappo phone version shown right at the end. Honestly would say that all in all the PSP version is the single greatest version of this game by far. It has the greatest content available at the cost of low end graphics. This game displays the absolute embodiment of why modern gaming sucks. The content is all there and it's all amazingly good fun to play.
You just brought back so many memories. I remember renting the wii version and a few months after it was returned I wanted to play again and bought it for the Xbox. I was so confused when it was different.
I played the PSP version first and I firmly think that is the definitive version. The side content with the historic missions, Order 66 wave survival, and my personal fav the Jedi Duel gauntlet, it’s a dream come true for any Star Wars fan. I wish there was an easier way to play other than emulating. I still play it on my psp from time to time. Plus it follows the Wii storyline which I think is the superior version of events too.
I met Sam Witwer and asked him about the different takes for the 360/ps3 and Wii/ps2 and he said they had him and the cast completely re-record the script. (Which probably had to do with the altered levels as well) So glad to see a video on this. I played the 360 and Wii versions and the Wii version is one of my favorite games. I'm so excited it got ported to the Switch.
@@broadwayfreak2007 Ps3 is identical to the Xbox 360 and while the gameplay is more smooth I still think it is inferior story and setting-wise. PS3 and 360 had too many dumb gimmicks like the Death Star puzzles and crashing the star destroyer that I never wanna replay. There are pros and cons to both games though and no version of this game is jank-less by modern standards.
@@user-ue8il6jx3b Yeah that's the sole reason I bought Ultimate Sith edition for the 360 back in the day. The Jedi Temple levels in the port blew the jedi temple dlc away though in my opinion so it balances out.
I think the opening level on the PS2/Wii was probably my favorite version, I liked the night time raid feeling it had. Plus seeing imperial 501 was a nice touch.
Fun fact, the Wii version had a special edition that came with 2 lightsaber attachments for the wiimotes. They had a button on them that would make it light up in 3 colors, red blue green, each press would cycle the color. You’d be surprised but it really added to the immersion when I played it as a kid.
To answer your question: On Raxus Prime they were using raw materials on the planet, firing them up to a shipyard in orbit and using them to build star destroyers.
Starkiller was also a playable guest character in both versions of Soul Calibur 4. Which also had Vader for the PS3 version and Yoda for the 360 version.
Shortly after Disney bought Lucasarts they pulled all dlc related to star wars related to sc4.which means you cant buy yoda or vader on xbox or ps3 anymore.
@@danielgertler5976 In my case was my dear Amy. The character I used the most, simply vanished. (I didn't like Viola, neither her fighting style or her aesthetics )
for some reason i REALLY love the very specific graphics of around 2008. Force unleashed, Fallout 3 and new vegas great examples, ect. They were getting really good at making things realistic while still having things have a beauty of simplicity. Also, from maybe 2014 onward all the games got into the uncanny valley where we can tell its supposed to look human but just looks off because its not.
@@ltb1345 I'm conflicted on that part cause like how fallout looks cartoony I HATE that, breaks immersion for me that one should be realistic, I would like it to be more like cyberpunks people, they're stylized a bit but look so good they kinda trick me into thinking it's real very well
@@a.o.skurtt I definetely prefer graphics and the world of Fallout 4 over the previous titles, I like how they took Boston with the Victorian buildings and color scheme, added in the 1950s color schemes of "modern buildings" rising over a older Town, it's gloomy but it just work with the colors. The colorless grey of 3 and the Yellow cowboy tint of Vegas didn't do it for me. Still enjoyed these games ofc. A lot of games from 2014 on did a lot of things prior decade did badly and improved it, but failed at what made games good before 2014 on. What makes FALLOUT 4 works is the Artstyle. The power armor was an amazing improvement and so was a lot of things, but all the improvements cut in on the story creation and instead of taking the assets and create a new game with a good story, Bethesda opted for a Online experience 😒 which is why MS bought them, they want that Online money grad game that they can milk like GTA5.
@@Nevergofullretard321 And i love it. Real life is both colorful and washed out. Opposed to Fallout 3 which was grey and bland and New Vegas which was yellow tinted and bland, these are the two aspects that makes it hard for me to go back yesrs after, though I am 100% entirely burned out on all the games to be honest due yo at least 500-700 hours in both but at least Fallout 4 visually have a draw whereas F3 and FNV does not.
Lets everyone request the developer to bring back this game. Just imagine how better it can be in todays day and technology got so far. They can make a super game.
@@ryujingaming7464thing is man. New generation is getting control and is going to control the new things in life. They might not have the grit the older people know life has and what little cool details will be fun but now it’s slowly dying.
I had the Wii version growing up. Something cool I remember from it is that some of the Holocrons that you collected through the game had some cheat codes. I remember putting the "infinite force" cheat every time I played the game just to do those thunder force balls and then watch as everything exploded in thunder strikes.
I remember the cheat to unlock and upgrade all force powers was “Katarn”, which was incredibly exciting for me because at that point Jedi Knight 2 was the only Star Wars game I had played, so the Easter egg was amazing.
Yeah lol I beat the Switch version recently and wound up with all combo moves maxed out and unlocked and near the very end a million points to max out all my unlocked force powers and what-not
I can’t believe the PSP and Wii had so much extra content. It’s borderline insane how the “definitive” version is lacking so much extra content in comparison.
@@jilliebean6312 PSP/Wii’s gameplay actually has more variety including stuff like controlling turrets and other moveable objects, plus it reduces a lot of the bad QTE stuff like the terrible Star Destroyer mini game so I say it wins on both counts.
@@AVGNROCKS1996 This. Bosses actualy fight you instead of being 3 phases of attack, defend, heal. Thats for YOU by the way. You have a phase where you can attack. A phase where you have to dodge a bunch of blows, then a Phase where something spawns in and you destroy it for health. Try attack outside of the attack phase will just get you rekt. Its incredibly boring compared to the other versions. Also less force powers and combos, less enemies and much weaker enemies. PSP version was the best by far.
@@AVGNROCKS1996 Ngl tho the QTEs on the flagship version almost seems better, I remember playing the Switch version you had to outright restart any failed QTEs
My older brother and I had a genius way of playing the campaign co-op on the Wii when we were younger. We would stand really close together and he would control the nunchuck, and I would control the Wii remote. We played through the entire game like that! Great memories!!
Just wanna point out something... Starkiller does say he searched for Kota from Nar Shaddaa to Bespin. So it's not a mistake, he just went looking where he last saw Kota and then just kept looking until he ended up in Bespin.
That and Nar Shaddaa is previously seen during the Tie Factory level (its the planet the factory is hovering over). I assume Flandrew knew all this but just wanted to Segway into the next bits of the game (albeit a tad weirdly).
In the krome version, he finds him at nar shadaa, but kota later says he was saved at cloud city. In the lucas version, he saves him at cloud city but starkiller just says “head to nar shadaa”
Me personally, I think that both versions were supposed to have the same amount of content, but something happened during development for the flagship version so they slightly rewrote stuff so it made sense in the game.
I knew I wasn't crazy. I played the Wii version as a kid and absolutely loved the game and remembered a few things very vividly as I recently bought the game again on Steam. Loading it up and playing the first mission I immediately felt like something was off, namely about the stormtroopers around me, because I could have sworn I remembered them being distinctly 501st. Thank you very much for reaffirming what I just honestly chalked up to being a delusion.
When I was a kid, I loved the DS version! My brother and I really connected over it. The really unique thing in the DS version that didn't get covered is how many special force moves you can accomplish by using multiple force powers at once! Instead of tapping just one, you can drag the stylus across the screen to make special force attacks like ball lightning, force repulse, force impale, and force storm!
Your comment is great! I am actually getting the DS version soon through the mail(probably this week) CIB at a very reasonable price. I have the Xbox 360 version and really enjoyed it. I really don't care what people are saying about the DS version. The DS is my favorite hand held gaming console and I'm looking forward to the game.
@@TANKTREAD Oh, yeah! I understand why people throw shit on the touchscreen controls in this game, but once you 'adapt' to the scheme, it really serves their purpose very well, and the possibility to link the force moves to make another ones is really entertaining.
Obviously I'd have bought the 360/PS3 version had I owned either console in '08, but the DS version was a rare example of a handheld alternative that didn't feel like a complete waste of money compared to the home console version to me.
I loved the ds versión too, got great memories of it, trying to find all the crystals etc. Liked the story, the combat the force powers, the time on the ship between levels and everything. I loved the xbox version I used to play with my cousins for the graphics and chaotic gameplay but the ds ones got a place in my heart
My family didn't have a lot of money when i grew up. i started with the DS version which i really enjoyed but i was a bit envious when i visited my friends houses after school to see they had a lot of advantages like Wii's and ps3's. Those versions were a lot superior. When times got better i got a Wii for my birthday and a year later i bought a ps3 because i got old enough to work a student job. I think the Wii version isn't the "best" one, but i think it's the most fun one. I loved playing against my friends in my old living room swingin the wiimote like madmen.
Lol, I had the DS version first and then the PSP version. I'm waiting for another sale to get the Switch version. I know the Switch version is built in the PS2 Wii version although I don't know why?
The Jedi temple dlc for the then current gen version was also pretty different from the Wii/PS2/PSP levels. You didn't fight Sith spirits, just the version of Starkiller from the evil ending.
They serve the same purpose. They are the Jedi trials. On the PS3 version you do the trials by moving the platforms to make paths and moving the light ball on the line before fighting the evil version of yourself kinda like how Luke fought a Vader vision on Dagobah. On the PS2 version you go to the temple multiple times and each boss represents one trial.
I always loved the 501st storm/clone trooper design we got for the PS2/Wii game. Still wish Hasbro would make official figures for them like they did with the storm shocktroopers
As someone who read both novels and beat the first game with my brother twice, Force Unleashed was everything I came to love about Star Wars, from the grand scale to the almost dreamlike atmosphere: murky, uncanny, mystical, overwhelming. For an elementary-age child, that's the kind of magic I've spent my life since chasing in fiction. Reading the books during long car rides in the dead of winter are a core memory for me, and I don't get nostalgic often but here it is.
I had the Wii version growing up. I eventually got the 360 version. While there were things that I really liked in that version (DLC, graphics, Darth Maul fight), I felt like the Wii/PS2 is a lot more fun to play. Also since he doesn’t hold the lightsaber with a reverse grip in that version of the game, using the other characters didn’t feel as jarring.
I had the PSP version and I didn't even realize how many features it had over the Wii and PS2 versions until now. I never had a PS3, 360, or capable gaming PC at the time so I always looked at those versions as what I'd love to get. The game was one of my favorite PSP games to play and I put tons of hours into it. Still have the game now and maybe I'll pick up the switch version. However I'd love the switch version to add many of the PSP extra missions
The wiii version was my favourite. Mostly because the planets and locations actually look identical to the movies, and the Jedi temple levels. Also more options in terms of lightsaber colors.
i loved the wii versiion as a kid, but as an adult who didnt wanna buy a whole wii to relive my childhood, i just settled for a 5 buck xbox port for my xbox series s
I think the reason why the lightsabers are just glorified baseball bats is so enemies aren't instant one hit kills and provide a little (and I mean a little) more of a challenge
You should have mentioned the combo abilities in the DS version, there's so many that are honestly pretty cool, and unique to that one. Obviously the other versions are better, but the ds one still stands out in a positive way imo
Force Barrage was so sick, I can't find any documentation on him having that in his moveset, but I used it all the time. Had to connect every skill you had to do it. Ripping shit off the planet or ship your on and dropping it all around like like death rain is sick
Yeah the combos were kinda fun. So many reenactments of Ventress killing Commander Colt, but with the Imperial officers and Starkiller instead this time.
This series deserves to have definitive versions released that include all the content from all its versions. Then we can finally get The Force Unleashed III and a conclusion to the story. Btw, it is still SO DANG refreshing to hear a UA-camr be both so fair and entertaining. You acknowledge how over the top the games are but still talk about how fun they are. It actually makes me realize that it's kind of weird that this kind of balanced approach is so rare on UA-cam. Why is that, I wonder? Clearly people don't have to take extreme views on something as innocuous as action video games in order to be entertaining, yet many do anyway. There are tons of people willing to write off games like this completely for one reason or another.
I remember that the Nintendo DS version did the Star Destroyer part differently. Instead of pulling it out of the sky, it was already falling, and you had to redirect where it landed. Supposedly, that's what happened in the novelization as well.
I would prefer that version, because Starkiller being so strong just always felt like a Canon killer for me. Or that he manipuled the controls inside the ship, which also would make much more sense, though such things would rise questions why Vader didn't do that to Luke, you know, just hijack the stick with the force 😬
I played the game this week and I'm pretty sure Kota says that one of the Star Destroyers is falling down. In the cutscene where the ore ball thing hits the orbital construction station, the Starkiller rapidly flies towards the planet, but it doesn't even look like it's unintentionally crashing down. Then in the gameplay, it's pretty evident it's not even crashing down and is just shooting at your position, until Starkiller takes hold of the ship with the Force. If they were to remaster the game, personally what they should do is you need to run away from the construction site, but the Star Destroyer is coming right towards you, so Stakiller stands his ground and redirects the cruiser. And do it in a way that's not so annoying with million TIEs respawning.
I had the PS2 version first, it's a shame it didn't have the extra modes like the Wii or PSP versions but it was still my "superior version" for a while
Ps2 is my preferred version of the game. I played the 360 recently and was sideswipe by how different it was, a little upset too since it wasn't what I remember playing but overall still fun.
I had the ps2 version first too, that was when I found out that not all consoles have the same features and not all versions of a video game are the same even though the console I have is in the same family, Yeah it was a surprise when I played it and it looked nothing like the ps3 version plus it was dark and hard to see sometimes. It was fun but the best level in the ps2 version was the cloud city mission where you have to find your way through a army of mercenaries including a small group of mandalorians and save a senator.
Wow. Now i remember why i had such fond memories of it on the PSP. The whole vibe was great and dark. The mass amount of costumes and lightsabers, just being able to replay the movie moments as any character, to an 8 yr old was just sound.
I had the PS2 version (practically the Wii version but with no dueling) growing up and I now own the Ultimate Sith Edition on PC. Both incredible in their own way. I’ve got to hand it to Chrome Studios for making such a good version for the “previous gen” gaming platforms.
Doesn't the "flagship" version actually make a mention of Starkiller tracking Kota from Nar Shadaa to Cloud City? I think the first level with the TIE fighter factory was basically in the orbit of Nar Shadaa so it makes sense that Starkiller would start searching where he had last seen Kota.
Yea he slams him to the planet below and isn't 100% sure he is dead; senses him later. I suspect Vader taught Starkiller to never assume they were dead without a body based on certain past experiences.
Right. I just played the PC version, he mentions Nar'Shadaa, but later on bespin he says I tracked you from Nar'Shada to Cloud City. Just we don't see Starkiller's investigation.
First off love the video, I do have one critique. When comparing Force Unleashed and Fallen Order the two characters are vastly different in terms of training. Starkiller was trained by Darth vader over 10 years. While Cal was still a young padawan. Who for a time had not stretched his force muscles so to speak. Keep in mind also that Starkiller, had no qualms about the darkside. So his power would have been more amplified by the darkside. While as Cal stayed in the light, not using the full range of what the Force could do. Again, love the video and keep up the good work 😁
I grew up on and loved the PSP version as well and was definitely a little disappointed when I played the PS3 version and saw there were no story battles haha
I don’t think it can be overstated how insane the DLCs were. You murder all of Luke’s friends right in front of him and CONVERT him into your dark apprentice.
12:11 The weirdest part of the Krome version is how you don't fight Stormtroopers until the Death Star level. The average grunt is an "Imperial Navy Commando" which are just the Navy slapping together gear and trying to prove they can provide their own "Marines" and don't need Stormtroopers. They make sense on SOME levels but not nearly all of em.
seeing some of the grandiose setpeices used in the flagship, I actually think the wii's version, though graphically downgraded, actually looks better thematically. Playing the switch port right now and the sequence under the jedi temple is honestly atmospherically gorgeous and I love every second of it. Something about the smaller scale makes the developers put more creativity into the environments, I think.
I remember I hunted down all the different versions to experience all of them. It was like an Easter egg hunt, lol. I was thinking, “Oh, man, what will I get in this version?!” every time I turned a different one on at a friend’s house or something. It was the freaking Christmas morning feeling every single time, it was amazing, honestly 😂
The Narshida inconsistency is actually fixed in a cutscene between Kota and starkiller. Starkiller says that he tracked Kota all the way FROM Narshida 5:50
I played the DS version and I remember really liking it on that platform. The touchscreen actually let you do all these cool combos if you dragged the stylus through multiple abilities.
Played the hell out of the PSP version growing up, was hoping to see the funny cutscene in the Dooku historical battle where he yeets Obi Wan and plops the platform right on top of him but the other highlights you showed from the historical battles were hilarious too
I only ever played the Wii version, which I absolutely loved. Now after seeing the differences between the flagship and the Wii, think it’s safe to say the latter actually had better content (but that PS2 version looks great too). Now I want a Switch just to play a slightly graphically updated version.
Absolutely loved the krome version. Its simplicity and sometimes better level design made me love it when I was younger. Also loved visiting the Jedi Trials and beating them as starkiller as we see his story progress. Also the mission on cloud city in the krome version is way better. We also get Nar shadaa. The only thing I hate about both games is you visit the planets twice. For story purposes it works, seeing what starkiller has brought to the once better and somewhat thriving planets. But they really overdo it
When I finally got the game on the 360 after growing up playing it on the PS2, it honestly felt like a downgrade. For example: You can't block and run in the 360 version, but can in the PS2 version. Also, the Jedi Temple levels you mentioned and the ship between levels.
5:36 i don't believe this is in inconsistency. I could be wrong, but I'm pretty sure that when you find Kota, Starkiller says that he tracked him from Nar Shadaa, meaning they went there first and were able to find there way to him in Cloud City Edit: I went and found the scene to fact check myself, and yeah, he basically says he started at Nar Shadaa and tracked him from there
I remember the PSP having a battle game mode that was almost like a lightsaber arena. Beat jedi after jedi of varrying difficulty and see how long you can last, or select who you fight. Such a cool game mode, i remember being surprised it wasnt on my console edition of the game.
I played the Wii version first, and it was a lot of fun to me. I was 12 at the time, and particularly liked the Bespin mission with the Chopp'a character, who doesn't appear in the PS3 one. You even meet Lobot on that one. Then I played the PS3 version later, and still enjoyed it. I never liked the fact that you almost kill Vader, though, even if the DLCs were awesome.
Dude I literally JUST started replaying this game (PC version with sound fixes and a 60 fps fixer, HIGHLY recommended as it makes the game much easier on the eyes on PC) and I remembered that there were very different versions. I am shocked to see the time coincidence of this vid! I have skipped a majority of the first half as to keep some of the parts I've forgetton about a surprise still, but I am excited to see some of the other versions I've missed! Just gained a new sub, extremely entertaining and well researched vid my dude!
This is becoming one of my fav channels. Keep up the amazing work. About the game, I first played the PS2 version. I remember it being really fun. I didn't like going to the Jedi Temple like three times tho. The PS3 version was also really good. Too bad the game on Steam is very unplayable.
Got here just to see the difference, was ready to just scroll down the whole video and look at the graphics and gameplay. ended up watching whole video. you have a nice narrative, and some decent jokes. You've got a new subscriber.
I think it's really cool to see the different creative choices in each. One I particularly remember is that in the Wii version, when SK presents Kota's saber to Vader, Vader uses the force to forcefully take it from his belt before he can extend it, whereas in the flagship version, SK kneels with it presented and Vader picks it up with the force. Kinda liked the Wii version of that scene better, made Vader seem more menacing
I only ever had the DS version and the emperor fight killed me. Might have to check out the PC version and it's interesting to see the PSP devs go so hard on delivering extra content just for a mobile platform
Like others have pointed out, yeah the DS touch controls were bit underwhelming at first, but you didn't really touch upon the movement combos that are possible. I remember one where you just drew a spiral across all of them to pull off this devastating move which used all your Force powers at once in a massive AOE attack.
Back in the day I always thought it was dumb that games got such different versions on different systems. These days I kinda miss it though, I've grown an appreciation for the idea of going through more or less the same story again but in a different way. If you don't really like one version, you could give another a try and see if it's more your cup of tea. These days games are more expensive to make and take longer to develop, so we don't really get anything like this very often anymore.
Meh. If they stucked to one version, there may or may not be fans upset over Starkiller being too OP when he pulled the Star Destroyer out of orbit. Only the DS shows the Star Destroyer already falling towards Starkiller instead of Starkiller pulling it down like in the other versions.
Played TFU 2 on 360 when it came out. Then played it for the first time on the Wii in 2018, shocked to say the second game port to the Wii is incredible and beautiful
You talking about the psp version unlocked so many core memories from my childhood. I honestly couldnt remember everything on my own and now i remember everything and its so trippy and amazing so thanks dude
10:00 WOAH but calm down Flandrew, let's be honest and consider that Cal was JUST a Padawan, while Galen was trained LITERALLY trained by Vader himself... For like, 10 years.
i remember playing the xbox version growing up loving every second including the dlc i'm surprised you barely talked about customizing the crystals i ran around levels for hours trying to find all of the cool unstable and black and white crystals, it was just a really cool game, i had no idea the wii version and xbox version were so wildy different i always saw the ship lay out when people where showing off their different outfits but i thought my game was like broke or missing a dlc lol
I loved the force unleashed growing up. I even spent a ton of time just watching physic test videos about how stormtroopers will grab each other and how wood would break.
What's funny is that the Wii version of Force Unleashed 2 is based on the PC, PS3 and Xbox 360 version, not the Wii version of Force Unleashed 1, so their stories make no sense in relation to eachother
I loved when they use to make slightly different versions or even completely different ones. With your Harry Potter games I own them on every platform from handheld gameboy color, gba, ds, ps2, Xbox original, and Xbox 360 for all Harry Potter games😂 What a time for the same game name but different games. Good times. Love the content buddy. Keep it up!
I had it on the PS2, PSP, and the 360 but my favorite was always the PSP version. All the bonus features and bonus levels on the PSP put it over the top for me, as I felt like the 360 and PS2 editions were lacking in extra content.
I played the crap out of the PSP version as a kid. Looking for every single crystal took forever, but it was fun. I also really enjoyed the extra modes that they added. I never got to play the flagship version until it was finally re-released on Steam. I did play the demo of that version though on a friend's Xbox 360 though and was a bit disappointed at first when I couldn't do all the crazy destruction in that version on the PSP, but the extra stuff made it fun. I also played the Wii version a bit as my nextdoor neighbor had it for his Wii so I got to play some of the multiplayer modes for that one.
16:16 Interesting thing about those pirates. Other than the mandalorians who lead them, a LOT of them are from traditionally enslaved groups in the Star Wars EU and movies. Female Twileks, Talz (The four eyed fuzzball medics), actually not sure if the Whiphids(The big tusked ones with Axes) are enslaved but they're big and furry and the empire tends to oppress those sorts. There's also a couple Ithorans and the requisite Gran Grenadiers.
I used to play the PSP version until my fingers fell off growing up. Then A couple months ago I bought the PC version for nostalgias sake and was just in shock how different the game felt and looked. It wasnt as fun as what I grew up playing and has just decided "oh well I was just a kid back then ofc it wouldnt feel the same" but now you have shown me that I wasn't crazy and that I indeed played a different game entirely!
I played the Wii versions(Remastered edition), yes, versions, as there was a second game(that gave you an additional lightsaber). Both were very fun to play and always brought me back to my rusty old Wii, speaking of which, I might go replay the games sometime.
Wii version was the one I grew up with and I loved it. Crazy how I never knew it was way different. No wonder the other force unleashed kids thought I was full of crap.
The Empire on Raxus Prime, if I recall right in lore, was mining up and refining the scrap, where they then launched it up to their space station above that took that raw material and turned it into Star Destroyers, TIE fighters, AT-ATs, etc.
The novel also has different events than the games such as a force vision with Starkiller’s father. I heard that’s the version Hayden Blackman prefers but it’s wild that there are so many versions of this game.
I remember getting this game on PS2 for getting good grades, man did I play the ever loving shit out of it. That version of Raxus Prime was such a good level, I loved the designs of the junk enemies.
I had first played this game on the Wii and it was amazing. Years later I got the Xbox 360 version. I was so confused and didn't realized there were different versions of the same game. The 360 version was so much better than I remember the Wii version being
I fell in love with this game and played it at first on the Xbox 360, then PSP, then Wii, and I nearly shit bricks when I found it on mobile as well. Starkiller was one of my favorite characters ever to come out of star wars. Will forever adore this game.
Such a godlike game. I loved the customization and level design. I had the PS3 version and was always jealous of the extra stuff that my friend's Wii version had, especially the outfits.
I was a naive child when I first played TFU, it was for Wii and I was deathly confused that the walkthroughs I was watching (for Xbox) wasn’t the same as my version. I’m just glad I managed to play the Xbox version a few years later.
Just to note, the reason for the Empire's presence on Raxxus Prime is to gather and recycle scrap, which is launched into orbit where their ship construction-yards are!! I read the book ages ago which I remember more than the game (which I, don't think I completed lol)
I consider the Wii version to be the "canon" one. as it's already a stretch that Kota somehow survived his fight with Starkiller, but in the Wii version Kota is found on Nar SHadaa, the planet the Tie Fighter Factory was over, it makes sense being blinded that Kota would just hide out on the seedy planet where he nearly died, rather then hoping on a ship and heading across the galaxy to Bespin. Plus Bespin does show up later in the Wii version anyway in a more sensible way.
I played every version of this game (excluding the switch port) and it’s still one of my favorite Star Wars games. While the DS and mobile versions didn’t flow as well as the console versions, I think they had their own charms for being different and the developers using their own ingenuity to make them play differently. I would also like to say that I’d pay top dollar for a remastered version using the same engine for Jedi Fallen Order & Survivor. Thanks for coming to my TED Talk.
i remember, i played this on a PSP first. i didn't knew about the fact that it was a totally different game from the console versions. i've always assumed that, for example, the PSP intro was set at night while the consoles were set at day fastforward to a couple of years later, i then ended up playing the PS3 version and i was surprised because, while the graphics are better, i really thought that the PSP version was not only better, but it was also longer and had way more content. i was looking for the "historical fights" bit, but then came to the realisation that "oh... that was a PSP exclusive, huh?"
The Wii version was soo much fun. They’ve ported it to the Switch. I am going to buy it on pc too to see the difference for myself since I never got to try that other version. Actually so cool that two separate developers were able to make games their own style from the same script
To answer your question about the Imperials on Raxus Prime, they were using it as a giant resource farm for building Imperial I Star Destroyers, which were constructed in an orbital shipyard. All that scrap all over the surface of the planet? The Imperials were melting it down to build their ships. They basically melted into gigantic balls of molten metal, then use the giant rail cannon to shoot it into orbit where it would be captured (presumably by a Tractor Beam of some kind), then sculped into the parts needed for Star Destroyers. You actually use the cannon to shoot one those molten balls _at_ the station directly, which their tractor beam wasn't designed to handle.
The DS version is such a staple of my childhood, although I'll admit I don't remember being forced to use the touch screen controls for combat. Might be why I tend to look back so fondly on that particular port. The lightsaber minigame in particular hits such a sweet spot in my brain. Upgraded from the DS port to the PS2 port and my mind was blown. Didn't even know that still wasnt even the final form of the game until recently lol. Console ports were a time
As a kid who was too poor to have a 7th gen console, I still love the PS2 version to this day. It's surprisingly good for a version built by an out of house studio
I was so confused when it was different.
i experienced the same thing except it was the force unleashed 2 and I first played it on the wii and later on ps4 game streaming
@@panthastaa34 I played it on DS, PS2, and Xbox 360 I think the 360 version was better
Definately. I remember playing late in to the night, desperately trying to win 66 and I don't think I ever got it
As someone that played the PSP version, I’m disappointed that it wasn’t in the Switch release.
Same i also played the psp version but want to get the switch version
I never owned a psp, but ppsspp is my favorite emulator by far. I might have to check it out that way.
Agreed.
I loved the Wii version of this game, the lightsaber control was awkward, but the force abilities with the nunchuck felt so damn cool
Agreed it was badass
I liked he held the lightsaber forward
The final fight with palpatine was intense man :^]
Plus if you know what your doing, you could do a infinite lightsaber combo
I liked it better when star killer held his lightsaber forwards and not backwards
I met Sam Witwer and asked him about the different takes for the 360/ps3 and Wii/ps2 and he said they had him and the cast completely re-record the script. (Which probably had to do with the altered levels as well)
So glad to see a video on this. I played the 360 and Wii versions and the Wii version is one of my favorite games. I'm so excited it got ported to the Switch.
The cutscenes and gameplay are so painful on the switch! The PS3 games look more similar to what we would play if it was released today!
@@broadwayfreak2007 Even still, you gotta admit the line delivery is waaaaay better on the PS2/Wii version

its true that fans more liked ps2 i had ps2 abd pkayed that before flagship it feels great with more content
PSP gang anyone? 💀
Fun fact, the Wii version had a special edition that came with 2 lightsaber attachments for the wiimotes. They had a button on them that would make it light up in 3 colors, red blue green, each press would cycle the color. You’d be surprised but it really added to the immersion when I played it as a kid.
Damn that’s actually super cool, I wonder how much those would be worth nowadays
😊 😢😮
Secret memory unlocked, the leftovers littered the game isle for years after release
An old friend of mine had those and when we would do the battle arena he kept hitting me in the back of the head because he would swing too wide.
Why should anyone be surprised that children are stupid and shallow?
To answer your question: On Raxus Prime they were using raw materials on the planet, firing them up to a shipyard in orbit and using them to build star destroyers.
Starkiller was also a playable guest character in both versions of Soul Calibur 4. Which also had Vader for the PS3 version and Yoda for the 360 version.
Yeah but who talks about SoulCalibur 4?

for some reason i REALLY love the very specific graphics of around 2008. Force unleashed, Fallout 3 and new vegas great examples, ect. They were getting really good at making things realistic while still having things have a beauty of simplicity. Also, from maybe 2014 onward all the games got into the uncanny valley where we can tell its supposed to look human but just looks off because its not.
That's why I prefer art styles in games that don't try to be "photorealistic".
@@birdsteak9267 Fallout 4's art style is bad. The game manages to be both colorful, and washed out.
@@Nevergofullretard321 And i love it. Real life is both colorful and washed out. I put so many hours into this game on the PSP, I’m glad it’s getting the appreciation it deserves
The PSP version is the one I played, it was a little surprising the differences these versions had. God I had so much fun.

I had the Wii version growing up. Something cool I remember from it is that some of the Holocrons that you collected through the game had some cheat codes. I remember putting the "infinite force" cheat every time I played the game just to do those thunder force balls and then watch as everything exploded in thunder strikes.
I remember that too! The code was either Cortosis or Vergence I can’t remember which! Great memories!
I still have an old notebook with the cheats written down in it
I remember the cheat to unlock and upgrade all force powers was “Katarn”, which was incredibly exciting for me because at that point Jedi Knight 2 was the only Star Wars game I had played, so the Easter egg was amazing.
I had the wii version and then I played the Xbox version. The graphics were pretty but it wasn't nearly as fun.
Yeah but content vs gameplay… whats more important for a GAME that you PLAY!?!?
@@jilliebean6312 content, i couldn't care less for the PS3 version tbh, the PSP mechanics were more than enough

@@ClankyOtter it’s honestly something I’ll never forget. We always found a way to experience single-player games together one way or another😂
Just wanna point out something...
@@NC-cf7kl The Cloud City mission in the PS2/PSP/Wii version is one my favorite levels in the game.
I got the DS version for Christmas, I loved it, probably my most favorite DS game of all time
My family didn't have a lot of money when i grew up. i started with the DS version which i really enjoyed but i was a bit envious when i visited my friends houses after school to see they had a lot of advantages like Wii's and ps3's.

Fun fact if you activate force rage in the Wii version he will hold it like the 360 version
You took the words out of my mouth my friend. I thoroughly enjoyed force unleashed on the PSP and it was definitely one of my favorite games on it.

I think the reason why the lightsabers are just glorified baseball bats is so enemies aren't instant one hit kills and provide a little (and I mean a little) more of a challenge
but you can make a game with instant kill and be challenging at the same time, Jedi Academy does this and you can even enable dismemberment
Hm. You know who else has turned lightsabers into glorified baseball bats? SWTOR.
LO gotta remember vaders sound to taking damage, that sounded like a tire screech lmao
That's actually how it happened in the book too, which is the official version of the story.
Yep i remember that
I played the game this week and I'm pretty sure Kota says that one of the Star Destroyers is falling down.
I had the PS2 version first, it's a shame it didn't have the extra modes like the Wii or PSP versions but it was still my "superior version" for a while
I remember having the PSP version, then looking up the cutscenes online and being super confused lol
Again, love the video and keep up the good work 😁
Satisfying to know that the PSP game I had and loved was the "definitive' version. Such great memories
I just wish the PSP version would be available on PS4/PS5 etc.
i just loved that version
I grew up on and loved the PSP version as well and was definitely a little disappointed when I played the PS3 version and saw there were no story battles haha
@@XxStealthPhenomxX You remember that combo where you do some force lightning and then a force push?
Honestly, as a kid, this was the first game that made me appreciate fashion
This is quickly becoming my favorite channel. You have a whole treasure trove of multi-version games in the snes/genesis era
My favorite UA-cam content is obscure ports/alternate versions of video games. Thank you for fulfilling this strange niche
I felt exactly the same, ps2 version is superior
5:36 i don't believe this is in inconsistency. I could be wrong, but I'm pretty sure that when you find Kota, Starkiller says that he tracked him from Nar Shadaa, meaning they went there first and were able to find there way to him in Cloud City
Edit: I went and found the scene to fact check myself, and yeah, he basically says he started at Nar Shadaa and tracked him from there
im lovin this series on multi-versions of games, loved the force unleashed growing up, cant wait for you to cover the DLC for it as well!
I remember the PSP having a battle game mode that was almost like a lightsaber arena. Beat jedi after jedi of varrying difficulty and see how long you can last, or select who you fight. Such a cool game mode, i remember being surprised it wasnt on my console edition of the game.
All the different console versions really showed how different teams made what we're often great games.
Killer review! It's a really good trait of a reviewer to recognize when devs DO go out of their way to add cool content to games.
I'm sure I'm not the only one who has said this but I love this video concept breaking down different versions of games.
Keep up the great content!
I miss this story so much, Disney would earn all my respect if they did this story justice again like they’re doing with fallen order’s story
I had the PSP version. Loved it, cool to see it was the best version with the most content, apart from the graphics obviously.
I love that people are finally getting interested in this game, ive been playing it since it released first on my ps3 now on pc
With your Harry Potter games I own them on every platform from handheld gameboy color, gba, ds, ps2, Xbox original, and Xbox 360 for all Harry Potter games😂
What a time for the same game name but different games. Good times. Love the content buddy. Keep it up!
I had it on the PS2, PSP, and the 360 but my favorite was always the PSP version. All the bonus features and bonus levels on the PSP put it over the top for me, as I felt like the 360 and PS2 editions were lacking in extra content.
my favorite was the wii version. It's just really fun going around swinging the Wii-mote and pretending it's a lightsaber.
I grew up playing this game on the Wii, and I'm only just now learning how different it was from the other versions. Holy guacamole.
I played PSP version and I wasn’t aware there were different versions but remember thinking it was a unusually high quality game, even for psp
I think all of the versions of this game are genuinely very good, especially the PSP version with it's length and amount of content.
I swear that purple crystal that was in the statue at 14:50 was ripped right out of Crash Bandicoot
lol yes
The novel also has different events than the games such as a force vision with Starkiller’s father. I heard that’s the version Hayden Blackman prefers but it’s wild that there are so many versions of this game.
I remember getting this game on PS2 for getting good grades, man did I play the ever loving shit out of it. That version of Raxus Prime was such a good level, I loved the designs of the junk enemies.
PS2/Switch/PSP Force Unleashed Gang.
I had first played this game on the Wii and it was amazing. Years later I got the Xbox 360 version. I was so confused and didn't realized there were different versions of the same game. The 360 version was so much better than I remember the Wii version being
Agreed. Surprised so many people on here seem to prefer the Wii game.
I miss gaming's "teenage edgy phase". Much better than the current, pretentious artsy-fartsy phase
I fell in love with this game and played it at first on the Xbox 360, then PSP, then Wii, and I nearly shit bricks when I found it on mobile as well. Starkiller was one of my favorite characters ever to come out of star wars. Will forever adore this game.
*yo, watchu doing?*
*oh im just playing Star Wars the Force Unleashed on my digital pregnancy test*
Also doesn’t explain how he was able to obtain a blue lightsaber?
I played every version of this game (excluding the switch port) and it’s still one of my favorite Star Wars games. While the DS and mobile versions didn’t flow as well as the console versions, I think they had their own charms for being different and the developers using their own ingenuity to make them play differently. I would also like to say that I’d pay top dollar for a remastered version using the same engine for Jedi Fallen Order & Survivor. Thanks for coming to my TED Talk.
i remember, i played this on a PSP first. i didn't knew about the fact that it was a totally different game from the console versions. i've always assumed that, for example, the PSP intro was set at night while the consoles were set at day
fastforward to a couple of years later, i then ended up playing the PS3 version
and i was surprised because, while the graphics are better, i really thought that the PSP version was not only better, but it was also longer and had way more content. i was looking for the "historical fights" bit, but then came to the realisation that "oh... that was a PSP exclusive, huh?"
Console ports were a time
8:33 is the best Vader quote in existence
“You agreed to stay away!”
“I lied.”
As a kid who was too poor to have a 7th gen console, I still love the PS2 version to this day. It's surprisingly good for a version built by an out of house studio
