Very nice cars, i love them!❤
Yes sir! They are also a good platform to do engine swap and build.
I still miss my 86' cougar 5.0 . Thx for the infos !! 😊
You are welcome! Cougars 5.0L on Fox Platform are cool cars
Thanks for making this video to document the fox body Cougar. More tubers need to see this one because these cars are under appreciated and rare.
Yes sir thank you very much for your comment. These 83-88 Mercury Cougars are rare, the sad thing is I do not think youtube even recommend our videos to people that love car. We make these videos because we loved cars, and hope that people that love cars can maybe one day find our channel. Thanks for the comment and sharing your knowledge
@@mcscgreenwheels I just meant to say in a nice way that, anyone considering a restoration should look at these alternatives. Younger car guys in particular who are just coming into the hobby need to open their eyes to other possibilities.
@@KarsNGuitars correct sir, and they will be more reasonable $$$ than what the foxbody is going for price wise these days.
@@mcscgreenwheels There is an algorithm for everything we see and click.
@@mcscgreenwheels But its still less $$$ to buy something that is already built or a project where someone gave up. Parts are very expensive especially new old stock parts. When I restored my car money was 1$ US = 1$ Cdn. I chose a great time to build a car in Canada since most of my parts were shipped to me from the USA. I held a USA mail box service in Niagara Falls N.Y. Still I had to pay US duty tax. It was not cheap to build a fox body restoring it to better than original.
That black one at 4:55 is Sharp.
👍
Wish I still had it 84 here
Yes sir! They were very cool cats
Yes. My favorite fox car. And one of the cheapest ones still
Memory Road, sounds like a country song. Now I know why you love the Cougar...MCSC (Mercury Cougar Super Charged)! 🤣
Hahahaha! The cougars are known as the gentleman's Mustang. They sure are cool cars especially the 60s to late 60s version of the Courage, the Eliminator one with the Ford 428 black in them.
Are many of these cars (88-94) still available? How can I go about finding one?
Yes they are still available and are more reasonable too than the fox body mustangs. I share them all the time when I see them on Mcscgreenwheels facebook page.

The only problem with these fabulous cars (besides the difficulty finding one) is the digital dash and the lack of manual transmission except on the high maintenance turbo models.
Yes sir, the best bet if one I find out of these fabulous car, is to Ford 5.0L Coyote swap them with a Dakota digital dash. Since the front end of them are the same as a fox body mustang, I can use a aftermarket tubular K-member. It is hard to find them clean and rust free too.
Agree Mk Shffer. Like the Mustang why couldn't Mercury offer a 5.0 V8 with a 5 speed manual? Woulda snatched one up in a heartbeat.
The V6 cars weren't just lighter because they had 2 less cylinders. The V6 had aluminum heads vs the 5.0's iron heads.
Wow! That is awesome to know, thank you very much for the comment and the addition of your knowledge. We appreciate it. The 83-88 Cougar were really and awesome car for the time and era they will produced.
@@mcscgreenwheels I actually stumbled on your video because I'm hoping to buy an 87-88 XR7 at some point and 'resto-mod' it.
On the 3.8's, they were probably the best V6 Ford made at that time. They weren't powerhouses from the factory but they were way more reliable than the 2.9L/4.0 used in the compact trucks(prone to cracked heads).
The 4.2L used in the F-series and Econoline from 97-08 is just a slightly stroked 3.8L putting out 205hp and 260lb-ft which is not bad at all for a pretty simple OHV V6. For someone wanting to keep their V6 T-Bird/Cougar/etc looking stock but add a bit of pep to it's step, their are tons of 4.2L's in junkyards that can be used.
We put a hybrid 4.2/3.8 in a Jeep Wrangler to save weight and drivetrain abuse vs the typical V8 swap. It had early TBI 3.8 heads and intake on a 4.2 short block with a 2bbl carb and factory Duraspark II ignition components. Since the RWD 3.8/4.2 use the SBF bellhousing pattern adapters were available off the shelf.
@@CzechSixTv I am glad you stumble upon our video, you thought me something new that the cougar had V6 had aluminum heads vs the 5.0's iron heads. I spend a lot of time reading, wrenching, doing research just to learn something new. These video series came about to get people to start looking at other fox-platform cars that are also cool, since the fox body mustang prices are getting less affordable for the blue collar wrencher, and car lovers. man I like your way of thinking brother. I hope you find yourself that 87-88 XR7. I know in your hands it will be one awesome cougar. I ran across this one at the car show that belongs to Mark, this cougar was super clean. ua-cam.com/video/U7nuOPMiO10/v-deo.html&ab_channel=MCSCGREENWHEELS
And that difference in metals led to differences in expansion and contraction of the engine block. The result: blown head gaskets.
@@georgewilkinson1068 On the early 3.8's, yes it did. Finding the right headgasket material was a common "growing pain" for a lot of manufactures when they first started using aluminum heads. On the later 3.8's and 4.2's it wasn't really an issue.
I have the baddest foxbody cougar on the planet, check it out on youtube 'The forgotten foxbody' ,great video by the way!
Awesome Mr. Smith, I will check it out. Thank you for your comment. Fox body cougar are cool, we wanted to make this video on cars that people where missing out on, and the fox body cougar is one of them.
