    My Aunt had one when I was born... this was the first car I ever been in... let my Dad tell it, he blew through traffic in my Aunt's car to get me to the hospital where my Mom's mom worked as an RN. My Aunt had that car until 1994-1995.

    Really cool looking car. I have one in my family that's been sitting outside for 15 years and we decided to get it back on the road. It needs work for sure but the engine turned over and it ran decently. It's a 1986 LS model. It has sun damage but we are gonna try to clean it up as best as we can.

    I remember these good. My parents bought a 1988 Black Cougar XR-7 5.0 L with dual exhausts and grey interior. It had the keyless entry on the door and the gearshift on the floor. Had the graphic equalizer and the gearshift on the floor like XR-7s had and automatic climate control. I dunno at the time it seemed fast with the posi traction and it would sqaul the big GoodYear Eagle VR60s a bit not much cause they were sticky tires. It got 30 miles per gallon on the highway but it was new then. Hold on to this car you might regret getting rid of it, I'd love to have ours back. I've had a lot of cars and the Cougar is still my favorite. Yours is beautiful take care of it!!

    I had an 1988 XR7 with the widest tires and a sports package. It was silver with silver/grey interior look with the aluminum 15” mags they used on Mustangs, but with the cougar on the centre caps covers. Same digital cluster, and kick ass stereo, fully powered seats with lumbar sac, air conditioning, as well and auto dim brights. Was a over drive four speed transmission with cruise control. It was very nice car, fuel hungry and could have used the 5.O HO tuned power with a few more houses like the Lincoln Mark 7 and Mustang GT Cobra had in them. Still I could lay rubber in low if I held the brake to get it going or was turn a corner. It’s top speed I head of was 200km and climbing but my personal fastest in it was 185km, and it had plenty more room to go higher. It is a nice comfortable cruiser with some balls!

      I had an 88 also. It wasn't an xr7, it was called a blue max. It had the 5.0 (non HO)and I put some bolt ons on it including an exhaust and a new 3:45 ring and pinion gear. It had great low end torque, would easily spin the tires. Had nothing above 4k RPM's though. Its essentially a truck motor. Still fucking awesome nonetheless.

      I think mine was a 1987, 20th now that I think about it. Either way was a very comfortable cruising car. My exhaust once broke off and it was loud.

    My dream car back in the day but even a used one was way out of my price range.

    When I was a kid very early 2000’s my sister had this exact car down to the color. I remember the digital gauges very well it was neat and almost video gameish. Sadly, the car met it demise when it got T-boned on the passenger side by a new at the time 2002 F250 super duty pickup, with a brush guard. 35-40mph crash, truck didn’t take much any damage.
    I happened to be in the passenger seat when it happened, I don’t know how, but I walked away without a scratch, and my seat ended up where the center console should be. Was told by several who saw the car after say it looked like a fatal accident, and I shouldn’t be here. My sister actually had more injuries than I did, mostly from the seat belt. I’d still like to find one of these someday to drive myself, as I obviously never got to drive my sisters.

    Northgate!!! Tampa Fl car???? Back in 1989 NOB (Nissan of Brandon) had a mint 1988 Cougar LS gold with tan interior with maybe 15K miles, this was back in 1989 so it was a year old, We took it for a day test drive, back then they encouraged you to "take it for the day to see if you like it" but my mom refused to go in debt to buy it..my mom and dad were about to split and she did not want a car payment..we had a paid for 1980 Camaro which I hated as it had no gadgets like this Cougar had..Awesome car! I noticed a lot of Koplinsky built homes in the area too!! (A 60's Tampa.Brandon home builder of those ranch style homes)

    Back in 1987 I was looking for an '86 or '87 XR7 with V8 5-speed but at about $30,000, it was out of my price-range as an E3 in the Navy, so I settled on a '87 Buick Somerset which looks very similar but a lot cheaper at $8,700 in 1988 for my 21st birthday present to myself. I still have it but it needs a paint job, head liner, and new window gaskets but they're impossible to find. The color is very close to your grandfather's and has a digital instrument panel as well.
    The XR7 is a beautiful car and if I were you, I would hold on to it as long as you could and keep up with the regular maintenance, that's how I got 34 years of life out of my car and it still runs fine and gets great mileage. 👍✨

    My family also has this '87 20th Anniversary Edition, but we have sadly stopped driving it and have let it sit, covered in our garage for about 2.5-3 years. I believe it has about 126K miles. I think we would regret selling ours but how much do you think these Anniversary Editions would be worth, say in about moderately good to mint condition like yours?

    • @BeefCakeKittens
      @BeefCakeKittens  3 роки тому

      I honestly dont know. These are pretty rare and the market for these arent very big. If I had to guess, a car in this condition would probably sell for 6-8k. 20th Anniversary Ed. that is.
