On my long run days I eat 2 large Dairy Queen Blizzards after!! Hilarious that DQ ended up in this video. All carbs are good carbs as long as it's in the training window!
Can someone tell me why a pro triathlete would want to live in Arizona... one of the warmest places in the US? Seems like hell to train in during the day. You are basically restricted to workout in the morning or evening.
hahah I almost want to believe this is all a joke to throw off his competition. Because a pro athlete that eats like this is quite funny when you consider how well he does. But that begs the question...how well could he do without all the processed crap?
how do you deal with nausea during the race? do you rather dont eat and try to calm down the stomach or do you say i just gonna eat and hope for the best 🤔
Hey Lionel, I am a big fan of yours and I support you in all races, truly. So please don't take this as a negative comment about your diet. But... Have you ever considered adding fats to it? It seems completely carbocentric, and I suspect your body has literally no fat adaptation. Maybe that's the bottleneck in performance you talk about? Especially for longevity of performance, fat adaptation is key: more so for long format Iron Man races. You say often you don't perform there as well there as in 70.3s.... You should talk with a professional sport nutritionist that works with pro triathletes. Love from Europe!
Do you think that a guy who eats 5000-8000 calories/day and is peeled to the bone has a body that doesn’t know how to use fat as a fuel source?! The dude is literally eating anything he can just to avoid losing weight.
@@lukepaulson3428 thanks for your (none-nuanced and simplistic) perspective on something I doubt you know much about. Judging fat metabolism by how somebody looks is over simplistic. Human biology is much more complex than that. If he, as you say, "eats anything to don't lose weight", he better eat more fat: 1 gram of fat is 9 calories, 1 gram of carb and protein is 4 calories. Besides that, our body uses different energy sources at different intensities. It is a myth that we make energy only from carbs. At rest and during aerobic effort, fat is the optimal energy source. I could explain you why but this is not the place and you don't seem to be the person either. World class, top level long distance triathletes train their body to keep the effort aerobic also at very high HR and lactate levels, also by eating low carb diets. Google "Dan Plews Low Carb". I don't doubt Lionel is super fit: I just doubt he is well fat adapted at aerobic intensities, given his diet and his results in long format iron mans. Take care. P.S. Besides being a passionate amateur endurance athlete, I am also a biochemist so I am interested and knowledgeable about this stuff.
If my calculations are correct, 4k calories come from carbs, 3K calories remain to reach 7K, how many fats and proteins absorbed? either 200g of fat and 185g of protein or 100g of fat and 375g of protein, solution 1 and 2 seem really extreme.
I feel like the last time we saw a day of eating video from Lionel, he was on the "no more trash" kick, what happened? Not that I care or know better, just genuinely curious why that ethos was abandoned? I'm assuming the McDonalds was a joke but the M&M's weren't nor was the potential Jersey Mike's lol
I have been trying to increase my testosterone through diet. I have seen many videos and have been told by my doctor to avoid peanuts and almonds. Are you adding peanut butter to your shake? Can you cosider changing to Macadamia Nut butter? Hope you see this info. Thanks Lionel your great.
I increased mine by going low carb verging on carnivore, pretty much meat, eggs, dairy, a few avocados, some berries, a few squares of dark chocolate and occasional macadamia nuts. Just completed Ironman Tallinn on zero carbs in a competitive time without bonking.
Bout to eat 7000 kcals like my idol Lionel, only I'll be spending the day on the couch

He is a drug addict depressed guy looking waaay older. Wake up.

Crazy to see how the world of endurance has changed from a banana and a bottle of water on a 5h ride to a sophisticated daily meal plan 😀
