Same I hate that. I’m vegan and It pisses me off when shit like “parents starve vegan baby” or “Vegan girl dies from malnutrition.” It’s not because they’re vegan it’s because that they’re not getting enough carbs and fats. They’re just eating lettuce. You need roots and legumes and fruit to survive, but people go into veganism without any prior knowledge and they get sick.
Clean Green Protein shake: almond milk, banana, ice, kale, spinach, hemp protein, almond butter, coconut nectar, chia seeds... Sounds so delicious, gonna make this at home.

What a nice guy. Really inspirational story he has! And those burritos looked amazing. His healthy lifestyle does look really expensive though. All those fresh organic veggies, in the middle of NYC...must cost a fortune. But hey, he looks fit as hell!
everything is expensive in NYC, but most of the rest of the country can offer pretty affordable veggies and stuff. the extra nickels and dimes you throw at clean food now are going to go a long way in preventing the 20-50k dollar medical bills from poor maintenance down the road.
Mad respect for him. He still honors his old spiritual teacher at mealtime. Would love to sit down with him and hear him talk about life and philosophy. #plantbasedbuddies ^.^

+MrHRY he doesn't look bloated, look up the china study, starch solution and hclf (high carb low fat) on UA-cam and online, the countries obsessed with low carb diets aka the uk and USA etc are the most obese, look at Asian countries where the majority of their nutrients in their diets come from plant based meals with abundances of rice, noodles, potatoes, lentils, beans and they are a lot leaner and healthier than us in general
+Nick Baddeley Although his outlook was very positive, what he said about meat is not entirely true, there is a reason the best athletes in the world are still eating diets with good amounts of meat, if what he said about meat was true, this would not be the case.
+Jai Lambrou Athletes who still eat meat are at the top of their sport because of genetics and drugs, not because they eat meat. The only difference between a healthy diet that includes meat and a healthy plant-based diet is dietary cholesterol. So unless dietary cholesterol is the secret to athletic success, meat is irrelevant to performance.
Danny Horgan Hahaha what? they have sport scientist and nutritionists helping them with their diet, if eating little meat was so beneficial, they'd be doing so. And what makes you think they do drugs you mong? haha
Mimic western high meat/dairy diets and you end up having their main killers - heart disease, diabetes, stroke, cancer. Just look at the current physique of Indians. 90% are fat due to high consumption of McDonald's, KFC, Dominos, and myriad biryani places. Go vegan, Be healthy.
Im not a vegan but dont consume mcdonalds, KFC, DOminos etc. I do have a diet heavy on fruits and vegetables. Chicken and fish is the protein I eat. My whole family just spend the last 2 weeks with the flu, i didnt even get sick. You cant be healthy and follow western food habits, thats for sure, but you can be healthy and not be a vegan.
Carlos Parra unfortunately we Indians don't even get enough time to work out or even go on a walk due to our hectic work schedules and traffic. Adding to that sports and physical activity are not given any importance in our education system leading to very unhealthy lifestyles. And the curries that go with the meats have a lot of oil which anyone can say is not healthy. Not to forget the hormones and bad food that's fed to the chicks and fish to make them grow big soon. Eating vegan is the best way to maintain health. And I've been on both sides of this. Was a heavy meat eater and now a vegan and can definitely say I feel much better and healthier on a vegan lifestyle. And of course the cause for animal well being trumps any of this.
good for you man that you could break bad habits even if your environment is still stuck in them. I myself said good bye to red meats and dairy but still consume fish and chicken and eggs. Lots of raw food, fruits and natural juices, almonds and peanuts, a lot of green tea and little refined sugar. Also lots of physical activity. Im not a vegan but like I said, I have an overall great health without entirely giving up animal protein.
I had heard of the Cro-mags years ago, but it's only recently I understood what John Joseph's message is....PMA (Positive Mental Attitude) This guy is a true inspiration, he keeps it real but at the same time keeps it positive which speaks to me.....some people who talk positivity appear to block out any awareness of the negative which to me makes them seem phoney or deranged.

Dude 53 and look like he's in his 30's. Shout out to them Rastafaris.
They got something figured out that's for sure
shame most vegans ruin their health from strict diets, give vegans a bad name. can only respect this guy tho, he’s definitely doing something right
Same I hate that.
Shout out to the justin beiber haircut
Rastafari man!
Clean Green Protein shake: almond milk, banana, ice, kale, spinach, hemp protein, almond butter, coconut nectar, chia seeds... Sounds so delicious, gonna make this at home.
Every night I drink a protein smoothie I make with frozen bananas, oatmeal, almond milk. peanut butter powder, pumpkin seeds, pumpkin pie spice, and cocoa powder or carob powder. Really tasty. I drink it with my WFPB vegan dinner.
Chia seeds and fruit combined aren’t a good combo for digestion 😬they do taste good
That's fucking disgusting, especially after you said hemp LOL
Sounds like food for cows.
Despair no wonder cows are so much more muscular than humans
This seems like an improv character from Michael of The Office.
UncommonSituations hahah yeah I can't unsee it now. Like when Michael was an ex-convict. A hare irish-news vegan. Fair play to him though if he's happy

haha. These comments are funny because 7 - 8 years ago, those would be considered to be fire for sure. Now look how many options we have today, though. It's insane how things have progressed so quickly. =)
Im not familiar with the Krishna Faith, but I appreciated the pre-meal dedication to his spiritual leader. Theres a deep connection, evident in his gratitude - a testimony to his tumultuous journey in life. Good for him!✌😁👍
it's a white washed ciltish version of hunduism that spread in the US in the 60s and 70s. It's a lot of bullshit.

I'm brazilian and I loved when he pronnunced Açai. Just saying. Kudos, John!
what is the proper pronunciation? I dont say the word, i just point at it. LOL
Worked in a farmer's market and the health nuts taught me how to pronounce it. I thought it was probounced A kai lol.
haha just commented the same thing! he didnt say "akai" or "assái"

John Joseph is a machine! Dude's been rockin' since the 80s and looks better than ever!
$10 for a smoothie in NYC? Dang.
Thats cheap too
James Morris no it isn’t lol
You’re paying for the convenience that’s all. That’s a $6 - $7 shake at most
just remember that we make double the money over here too
then they wonder why fast food lines never end.
After hearing all this dude's been through, I gotta admit I got a little teary eyed when he got his medal. Congrats John!
This inspired the shit out of me one day I will complete an iron man and I just went plant based. thank you
B A no you won’t
Nah you will but you gotta start trying marathons
I need this guy daily in a morning podcast to pump me up
Find inspiration in yourself

I love this video so much, seriously inspiring and fascinating

I wouldn’t even say anything to my mother if I started dating him, he’s just that kind of guy you can’t explain, you just gotta meet him and have a chat. What a bloke. 👏🏼

Phish N' Chimps do the research, veganism is no hokus pokus abracadabra. It is pure science so please accept it at least. Palafury I agree with you in every aspect. Veganism is the way to go.
I always make this cashew/pea/turmeric rice now. So effing good.
Sounds dumb
Unit Coordinator I’m gonna make it. Looks good and healthy
Is this recipe for the veggies and sauce on the book he mentioned?
@@bstmeg5237 especially since cashews destroy your gut.. and peas arent so great either
Jahric anti-nutrients aren’t an issue when you are already consuming excess. The only reported risk of peas is that starch can be fattening. This isn’t an actual health risk

love this guy- need more vegans like him spreading the word
I bet you want him to fart in your face.
By spreading the word in a sensible way, or just spreading it more?
Every time I train for a marathon, I always watch this. Everything he says is spot on. Mind over matter. Training for my 6th marathon!
I love this guy. He kicks ass! Inspiring as HELL

So badass! Such an inspirational guy, indeed. Love the Bad Brains and Cro-Mags too.
His bike ride (on Woodhaven blvd.), is probably one of the sketchiest places to go full speed...bunch of blind corners, buses and high speed car flow - John living!
Only real new Yorkers understand that
First time I rode a bike in NYC was on woodhaven Blvd. I was scared as shit the whole time too 😂😂
What an absolute rolemodel. Amazing person!
GO VEGAN
Dude talks about selling PCP and getting shot then going to prison.. But hes vegan, so hes a role model.. Jesus fucking christ...
@iRTehSecks everyone loves a redemtion story
Did you watch the rest of it? He completely turned his life around. I suspect that you are being willfully obtuse.
ALSO I love that John has been a singer in a legendary hardcore band from the original NYHC scene for thirty years and he performs in gym shorts and running shoes. No bullshit AT ALL with John Joseph, no costume, no horse shit just a real dude.
His bluntness is refreshing, I really want to meet this guy
You can meet him and thousands just like him...Move to NYC.

Big Up John for acknowledging the Bad Brains influence/Ital diet. I'm gonna do more research on Ital to incorp into my diet. Nice video, thx!!

Also do stretches and a light snack before running.

Ben Zun most 50-year-olds these days have white hair and or are balding and are on the brink of death. This guys does freaking iron mans .
Ben Zun ya he looks pretty rough and old and abused but has clearly been training hard. Like a young seventy.

How refreshing to see someone living this lifestyle, vegan fo lifeeeee
Also clif bars are life
Me too, especially like to see vegan athletes seen as most people think you need meat to be healthy.
Unhealthy lifestyle
+cosworth itsworth unhealthy in what way?
+MrHRY he doesn't look bloated, look up the china study, starch solution and hclf (high carb low fat) on UA-cam and online, the countries obsessed with low carb diets aka the uk and USA etc are the most obese, look at Asian countries where the majority of their nutrients in their diets come from plant based meals with abundances of rice, noodles, potatoes, lentils, beans and they are a lot leaner and healthier than us in general
after watching this I think I'm going to cut down my meat intake and concentrate on eating alot more vegetables
+Nick Baddeley eggs dairy fatty fish other than tuna and lentils nothing is better
+Nick Baddeley I love meat but I also love vegetables.
Danny Horgan Hahaha what? they have sport scientist and nutritionists helping them with their diet, if eating little meat was so beneficial, they'd be doing so. And what makes you think they do drugs you mong? haha
I love this guy and not just cos he's veegs. So much personality and so straight up honest and just living his own life.

my jaw dropped open I can't believe it, what's happening! and here I am (Indian) trying to mimic Western food habits
+Pradhyumna Gupta Please don't be the degenerate fuck talking about how superior you are because you're vegan
I had heard of the Cro-mags years ago, but it's only recently I understood what John Joseph's message is....PMA (Positive Mental Attitude)
This guy is a true inspiration, he keeps it real but at the same time keeps it positive which speaks to me.....some people who talk positivity appear to block out any awareness of the negative which to me makes them seem phoney or deranged.
