  • Hey everyone! We're Eric Lagerstrom and Paula Findlay! We're professional triathletes, racing and training for a living.
    We have listened to all of your requests. Here's our completely unplanned, unscripted video about our nutrition for a day. We're eating slightly less right now than we would during "heavy training" in a few weeks, but you can get the idea. We don't feel counting calories is necessary on a day to day basis, but it's not a bad idea to check in with things from time to time to make sure you're close to balancing your energy output to input. Even if you're trying to lose weight, having more than a 500 calorie deficit per day can drastically affect your training performance for the worse. If you've got questions for us, let us know, we'll do our best to answer everything!

    I just came across your guys’ channel as I’m training for my first sprint triathlon (I’m 52☺️) and I liked your relaxed no nonsense way approach but that me because I too eat freely for the most part. Still good to keep track & monitor for sure. It helps to know what helps & what doesn’t. I’ll be watching more. Thanks.

    Eric and Paula: I love the videos. I've been racing triathlons for about 10 years and have been following Paula since her killer ITU days and had an opportunity to hear her give a talk to the Ottawa Triathlon Club a couple of years ago. Obviously I'm not the only one that wants to see a video on your coffee habits. I love my espresso and coffee and would be great to have you geek out on that one week.

    Maybe an episode about personal finance of professional triathletes? I know you briefly mentioned in another episode that sponsorships are harder to come by now a days without a large social media following. Have you been contributing to a 401k your whole career? How much do you have to spend on gear and things the normal person doesn't have to buy to do their job? Just some ideas, love the vlogs :)

    Super cool video as usual I wish I was able to eat 1000 cals per meal I’m trying to lose 30lbs so I could do a little better in tremblant this summer. Be a little liter on the bike. Your training is amazing. Swimming outside in the winter.

      Haha, usually laundry every other day, since our clothes are so sweaty. Eric is pretty good about hanging up his dripping wet bibs instead of throwing them in the laundry basket :D. Shower after mostly every workout unless we're going swimming right after. 1-2x/day

      ummm we just have the lowest end model.. I think they're pretty cheap and they just pressurize to one level. I think higher level models may have some options..? We don't even mix flavoring in, we just go raw bubbles ;)

    Hi Eric...i am new to triathlon, and after about 20+ years of never riding a bike I find it difficult going to the aero bars. 2 outdoor rides thus far and I haven't made it away from the brakes...safety first. Should I stick with it or buy a road bike...that way I can at least shift safely. Thanks...love the channel

    So kind of a difficult topic to bring up. But i‘ve started doing loads of workouts a week to get to Ironman capacity. I‘ve not seen content anywhere (neother podcasts nor youtube channels ) on the impact of so much sports on Libido. I don‘t know what you guys can share here but anything will be useful.

      pierre njeim great question. I find it’s actually a great indicator of overreaching for me. If I’m not interested, it’s very likely I’m doing too much training and not properly recovering. And for perspective, I have two kids work a full time job and aim for 15-18 hrs training per week.

    What is your caffeine intake regular days vs race.( I am a coffee addict) As caffeine is the #1 bladder irritant , I stop it a couple of days pre race . All to prevent me from peeing every 15minutes race day and during the race. Will take in Coke and Red Bull the second half of the run during race day . Caffiene is in all the energy drinks , gels etc. Looking forward to your coffee video 😜

      Hey Eric. I have the same grinder but a Bezerra Duo machine which has the same E61 groupset as your's. Your tamper and extraction looked pretty dialed in, nice. Btw, in case your interested, you guys seem to struggle a bit with blenders. I own a low-end Blendtec, some of the best money I ever spend.

    When training ramps up and "training fatigue" starts to pop up, since it effects you both (neither is the "normal" - non triathlete- one in this relationship). How do you two keep from sparring too much?!

      Yes we definitely eat beef, not often, but maybe once every 1-2 weeks. More as training ramps up. Mostly for the iron & nutrition benefits, and we try to get organic and grass fed.

    Put vinegar in water mix then pour into the nutrabullet on those whte pegs and rinses so that you do not have to use the knife in the future. This will lossen it up.

      Honestly, we haven’t. But we’re going to be addressing some more in-detail nutrition, training stuff like this in a future project we’re cooking up ;)

    Hi guys. Great content. Very interested in the sport. I’m currently at a low level grade of fitness. Not overweight just not exactly fit. I’m 45 any quick “get started” tips? Have access to a gym as well.

      I’d sit down, be honest with yourself about how much time you have and set out a schedule of when you can exercise. Commit to it for a month, then reevaluate, see if you can do more. That’s what a coach would do, but if you’re self motivated you could get going yourself to see if you like it first. Even 2 swims, 2 bikes, 2 runs per week would be totally fine to start.

    As a Scotsman i wish I contest this stuff but my body would reject it or i could not stomach it as my diet is so poor even though I run most days
