Epic Race Video | Jan Frodeno vs Patrick Lange | IM 70.3 Kraichgau 2018 A 3:50 into this race video same music was used . Short , but good warm up indoor ride video .
I also train indoors only. Outside is for casual rides with buddies. Outside the safety factor, the best reason to train indoors is the consistency. No need to stop at stop signs, lights, perfectly map out your route, worry about hills messing up your intervals, etc.
Same. Even living out in the rural parts around my hometown, too many transport trucks and careless drivers. Not uncommon to see a handful of cyclists killed each year in our paper because of distracted driving. Just not worth it IMO
while I love indoor training for it's efficiency if you are living in a city and are time crunched, I also dread longer workouts on the trainer. 3h zone2 is easy outside but feels like forever indoors, even when watching a movie or something. I also seem to get much less of the mental benefits when riding indoors, while long outdoor rides in good weather are just pure therapy for my mind.
I was hit by a car in July of 2020…and was knocked out for 5 minutes and didn’t work for 7 months…been training indoors ever since. I miss riding outside!! Ironman training again now and looking forward to getting outside again soon!! Cheers!
If you are able from physical ability go outside again. Go first together with buddies to feel safer. Think how many hours you spent training on the road without a accident.
I DRIVE to farming zones with hardly any cars or traffic and pick off peak times, reduce % of accident to nearly 0 risk! Like old roads around farm land! Can’t trust anywhere else
Love this Lionel! I have had to train inside so much because I’m also a caregiver for my adult son with disabilities. I’ve questioned myself as to whether I was training the right way or my training was substandard because I was not training outside. I do make an effort to get outside as much as I can. Hey, at least I’m doing the thing!! Great video!
Lionel, you should enter London Triathlon as they have a weekend warrior event; race as many of the short course events over the weekend as you can manage. It'd be great to see how many you crank out!
I mean I dig indoor cardio. Been doing stair master for many years. Watched this whilst sweating on stairs (no hands😜) and I’m very consistent with it. Thirty two years old, fitter than all my friends. Not trying to toot my own horn, just advocating for the injury free consistency that indoor training gives you👊🏼
Lionel sees you in Utah, I am hoping to pass you on mile 8 of the run... from my bike I mean... I wish you all the best for the race. Your info during these videos are invaluable. Legend!
Some people never get competitive in sports until their late thirties and forties. I think if you are hungry enough and trying to learn you can do it Lionel. Be smart, work hard, and I'll be here rooting for you.
Use it as fuel to get even stronger Lionel, there's always going to be people hatin' on your success whether it's at competitions or on all the subscribers you continue to inspire on UA-cam. PTO mystery man is hinting about all the ITU elite making their way to long-course but that doesn't change the fact that you've done so much for the sport already, your story has been remarkable and the fact that you'll still be doing races well into age just adds to the experience of everyone there competing. Cheers from Oklahoma City
What a great vid!! Good to see you in a good place in general, and it’s inspirational to see inside the bubble and be so open and honest about everything. Cheers dudes 🤙🏼🤙🏼
Pretty easy to criticize people under the veil of anonymity. Keep working your ass of Lionel. Your supporters believe in you and your work ethic is unmatched.
Your buddy Collin just got banned from Triathlons. Looking forward to you addressing the issue in a video, and how you think it is going to impact the sport?
Living in London, UK, it’s very difficult to get into a rhythm on the bike due to traffic and what not. Ordering a smart turbo is going to help my performance massively. Indoor training FTW!
First video I'm seeing of you, I'm not sure how this will come across, but in terms of physique, I believe this to be the ideal one to chase after, completely proportionate and I aspire to reach a similar level of fitness.
I noticed you u talked about heat acclimatization here too which for a triathlete in Singapore, I find it so important. I have been training for a 5k either in the late evenings or early morning but the race itself was a 8AM and on a rlly hot/humid day and I DNF’ed because I suffered from mild heat injuries
I live in Singapore too, and I only do very little Z2 training outdoor, all intensity trainings and most of the easy trainings are indoor. I think it’s far less efficient to train in the heat and humidity of Singapore, even in late evenings or early mornings….. And for IM races, I decide to only choose those cool ones lol
I know Lionel doesn’t care and it’s only my opinion but he has brought more attention to the sport than any other professional in the USA. Keep inspiring sir! 💪🏼🔥🫡
Sponsors sponsor for reason: ROI. If Lionel produces ROI via UA-cam instead of race results, I can assure you the sponsors don't care. It's a new era. There are fans that actually enjoy watching the daily grind even more than race coverage. It makes the athlete more relatable. Lionel could be the first of a new generation of "professional trainers" rather than "professional racer". Still a better gig than a cubicle I can assure you.
I've noticed the same thing with my Stryd as well. It's about 12% off (low) when on the treadmill. But you're right. It's consistently that way. I'm glad you mentioned it. I thought it was just me.
LS you’re a legend! Just something I always notice which I’m not sure you’ve probably heard it before and what the hell do I know I’m the one on the sofa watching UA-cam so grain of salt and all that but I’m over in NZ and when I was having swim coaching with a girl from their national team I was having same slow swim issue as you and the main thing she taught me was to touch my arm pit before leading hand goes forward into the water (Instead of swinging the arm out wide) which smoothed my stroke and made me faster by a lot! I know ocean swimming when rough will need adjusting but I found that changed my game big time and who knows maybe you haven’t been told that by any coaches. What the hell do I know. Keep smashing it mate.
Ok, being on the aero bars on the rollers is freaking hard! I just dusted off my rollers and rode for a while and then tried getting on the bars and ate it immediately!

@@OmahaTonyG I just noticed that the limp/hop only occurs maybe every 3-4 strides it isn’t constant… and n the video he refers to it as his “running limpl?
I go for rides on beautiful landscapes winter and summer. Also do running and also do swimming in rivers and lakes winter at freezing temperature and summer in warm weather and enjoy it very much. Indoor is a no go for me. I am a mother natures son.
Great content again. Cool to see OCD with numbers not only datas. My OCD is to round my sessions to Fibonnacci numbers. What is the brand/model of your rollers? Thank you.
I think high dew point is different than high heat. Arizona vs Texas/HI. Running at near 100% humidity in the morning in Texas is different than just high temp with low humidity. When you sweat doesn’t evaporate it’s brutal.
I’m a bit late on asking the question, but why is he on rollers now and what is the benefit? I’ve seen all the videos and he is my inspiration. No bashing please. Just curious about the rollers.
The majority of his time is probably spent not on rollers but on a Wahoo or similar trainer in which the rear wheel is removed. Those trainers are extremely stable and you can churn out the hours just pushing the pedals and not have to focus at all on stability like on rollers. Rollers are excellent at replicating real road feel, but require much more focus, balance, and attention.
Yo, the production quality on these videos just keeps getting better and better. Each one feels like a mini-documentary now, and it’s a joy to be able to enjoy these for free. Keep it up!
Think Lionel is one of the few UA-camrs I’ll trust when pushing a sponsor as the real thing.
Agreed!
That intro was hilarious. Well played 😂
Intro was pure gold. Love you Lionel.
Love the inspirational music set to Lionel running in his garage. You work with what you got, and that's why you're the best, Talbot.

i train on both, as well. the only downsides of the treadmill are no wind resistance, and scenery, so the time tends to go slower.
