Thanks for this. I'm considering this bike, and I hate hearing all the good but not the bad. Personally though, these 5 things aren't deal breakers for me. Makes me feel even more that this machine will be a good choice for me.
The stock front fairing is good. I just put a taller windscreen. Like at least a 10 inch windshield, I'd say the stock fairg works as good as what he has on here It's an awesome bike I love mine
Hey D. Spring is upon us and I have spruced up my Sport Glide for this riding season with an S&S cam, oil pump & cam plate. New D&D 2 into 1 Fatcat along with new air cleaner. This bike absolutely is a blast to ride. Thanks to you for all the maintenance videos! Please keep them coming. Minnesota spring is here!😆
Regarding exhaust, i think HD has to meet regulatory requirements. The plain grips are okay cuz every customer has different taste so it doesn't make sense to put on expensive grips from the factory. All the footboards from HD are for passenger only. I may put on Thrashin' Supply miniboards for an upcoming trip. I've made a few mods but I think even from the factory the SG is a very nice bike. I didn't like the chrome pipes / black muffler shield look. I put on a Bassani 2 - 1 exhaust all chrome. The tail pipe has a more sporty look which compliments the SG style.
I addressed 3 of your dislikes Gustafsson wind screen, very pleased they make a whole range specific for our fairing. Check out their website. S&S 2 into 1 EPA approved stepped header & can so it retains warranty. Combined with stage 3 11-1 slugs n jugs and a great cam that has both more low end torque than the stock cam and will pull to 6k. Together they addressed the sound issue and add lots of performance. Plus the S&S can be de catted and or the dB reducer can be shortened or removed. You can see it on their website in black or Chrome.
Vern Lochtefeld I’ve done several upgrades since the release if this video. Went with Tab Performance slip-on muffler with Zombie baffle along with Arlen Ness Big Sucker and a tune. I have two new fairings from Memphis Shades that remedy the looks and functionality that the stock fairing failed at...and so much more! Thanks for stepping by the channel! Check out some other vids if you get the chance!👍🏻
No cam upgrade? What tune did you use? Dyno or wideband & ride it? I’m doing a gear and pulley upgrade to fix the acceleration killing too tall final drive ratio.
Vern Lochtefeld No to the Cam. Maybe down the road. I tuned with the Vance & Hines FP3. Woke it up quite a bit. Pretty happy with how its performing but I know a cam upgrade will be a WOW difference.
I purchased a $65 windshield from Slipstreamer 10 inches tall for my stock fairing and it blocks the wind for my 5'9 frame. Easy install no issues with it.
I also installed a 10 inch shield in my front fairing. Was the best upgrade I’ve made so far. Exhaust will be my next upgrade sometime in the near future.
Sewing machine applies to high revving engines not something cruising at the same RPM as other HD engines. I've got a '16 FLD. If you're going to have a gripe it should be over getting pegs when it's predecessor came with footboards. They make a huge difference on a long run. Much of the sound is from the 2 into 1 exhaust having a different resonance from scavenging, but it's a better option on a faster bike.
I love mine, got mine 10 days after this video was made. I didn't like the stock grips either and stock pipes are a bit quiet, but get louder as the bike breaks in more. However I'm swapping mine for a Rinehart here soon.
Question does the American sold sport glide have the exhaust button? Saw it on another review of the bike but I don’t believe it was a U.S. bike. They showed a button that had three stages of exhaust.
D-Cycle wow didn’t know if you’d see this a year later thank you. I’ve seen this button on other reviews of the bike, but I believed they were all outside the states bikes. It was explained and shown as full open, pressed twice half opened and again for closed. It really changed the exhaust tone. Was on the left side next to the turn signal. So definitely will need to plan for an exhaust to get the sound. Once again thanks for answering.
I went from the Heritage 114 to the Sport Glide. The 114 does pull a little bit harder then the 107 but the 107 is great too. Both nice bikes but i just found personally that the Sport Glide fit me better.
Hey D , you nailed it , you read my mind, I changed the grips to Avon with throttle boss, just installed Kuryakyn brake and clutch levers, they claimed a reduced reach, that’s BS but I went for the gloss black look, stock levers are terrible looking. Stock exhaust is terrible , feels like the bike is farting marshmallows , I will up grade soon, the windscreen is a joke looking at a Klockwerks maybe 8” or 9”. I have a Cobra intake on the list but not yet available in Canada, supplier says coming soon, it is available in the US but exchange and shipping is beyond reasonable. The other thing I have done is swap out the rear brake pedal for a fat bob pedal, lower angle easier to slip your foot over but I’m still not satisfied rear brake is too soft , mind you the front is great. Finally yes, the available accessories are slow to come , oh well must be patient, love your vids , happy riding .
I couldn't agree more! Long before seeing this video & immediately after purchasing a 2019 Sport Glide, I replaced the exhause, grips and seat. The engine sound is weak, but this is coming off a '96 Evolution. Thanks for the review. Oh, and after riding nome from the dealership, the fairing has been collecting dust.
Interesting point about the sewing machine motor. I remember a quote which goes similar to, "she runs like a sewing machine" which is said in a positive context regarding the consistency and steady nature of a motor. Do the M8 motors still lope well at an idle? Cool video!
I think the monoshock does really well at absorbing some of the big bumps. I owned a sportster before this so anything was an improvement honestly! Brakes could be better. This being a smaller touring model, dual disk would have been a nice stock feature. They stop when you need them too, believe me. Thanks for watching.

@@DCyclemoto I also had a Sportster 48 and the comfort of the motorcycle was really bad for me. It's good to learn that this motorcycle is more comfortable. But as a BMW rider the brakes still give me some concern.
Love my 19, but there are a few things that I dislike. These are in no particular order. 1st off is the paint. Mine is the midnight blue and I love the color but the durability sucks! The midnight blue scratches so easily, even when compared to the black bikes. 2nd is the stock seat. Although it's a 2 up, it's only good for roughly a hour before your passenger has had enough. 3rd would be the tank strap. Mines came off from the console 3 times so far, and you can see that it's basically glued on.4th would be the front turn signals, headlight and taillights are led. Why not the turn signals up front? All in all i love it though, with a stage 1, modified knock off CFR megaphone pipe, and 16 inch apes she stands out in a crowd!
Good vid D....it’s so interesting about motorcycling that people’s taste vary so much that there is no way H-D can ever get it perfect. I really have to say that I love the stick faring and I believe it’s one of the things that make it stand out ( functionally it might suck). I think that the sport glide will have a cult following in a few years that will make the bike very desirable. No aftermarket support compares to the sportster line that bike has been around much too long and you can build it into anything.
Just ordered one & specified a Stage 1 with Vance and hines filter/short shots but then cancelled that mod as I love the look of the standard exhaust system. Saved me £1500 too. Just one quick question, why don't HD fit heated grips as standard. Don't riders in the USA get cold hands? Crazy on a premium bike.
Andrew Green Heated grips don’t make sense if you live in warmer states like California or Florida. For the exhaust I have a Tab Performance slip-on that uses the stock heatshield, so it carries the stock look but WAY better sound.
I modified mine with a stage 2 torque cam and several other parts, like most Harley's the stock bike needs some upgrades, cost me 42k to get it to what I wanted and now I really like it. Thx for this video, I totally agree.
I got a Tab Performance slip-on muffler. Check out his video: ua-cam.com/video/b5Bo7WSoCt4/v-deo.html In 2021, I plan to go full system and get Vance & Hines Long Shots.
I passed on the Softail Slim because of the lack of aftermarket support. Love that bike, but I don't like chrome or spoke wheels. I was willing to black out the bike and buy custom wheels; but there are none. Well, RC Components will make a set, for about $3600 for a complete setup. That made me start looking at the Triumph Speed Twin again.
@@DCyclemoto , I've only seen it on the H-D website and in videos. I'm a working stiff, that's getting on in years; so I wanted what will probably be my last bike, to be something I could really be proud of. The Sport Glide seems alright, and I've read favorable comments about it; but it comes off as kind of vanilla. I think I'll go by our local dealership to check it out in person. Since I first commented, I've been considering the Road King Special. It's blacked out, from the factory, has a 6 gallon gas tank; and it has the traditional Harley Davidson look that I love. The Triumph is nice bike; just not for me upon further reflection. I'll do more research on the Sport Glide, though.
If the SG came with dual disk brakes, it would be a no-brainer buy. (For a bike that has "sport" in its name, you can't go fast if you can't stop fast).
1 - handlebars were insanely uncomfortable 2 - stock exhaust sound is too quiet 3 - baby windshield is worthless 4 - unknown noise coming from the primary that hasn't been diagnosed even after two trips to my dealer 5 - moisture gets in where the speedometer is and makes it hard to read at times
Unknown noise is most likely the gas cap that gets loose. I had to warranty mine because it was making too much noise. Same with my brother and his street bob, same year.
My SG is 99% stock. I also hate the sewing machine sound. However I only hear it. If I don't wear my helmet, or if it's really cold outside. I also dislike the cheap look of the bags. I tend not to even have mine on most of the time
That is how HD fleeces you though. Get you to spend that extra thousand or so buying blacked out parts. Or how about the 50$ mounting brackets for the sissy bar when there are already brackets factory installed? Why not just put the dual mount ones on from the start? HD, making idiotic decisions for years.
I like your top 5 good things about this bike. I do agree about your 5 things you don't like. I will be a new rider, there's two bike I like Low Rider S 114 and the Sport Glide. I'm just out of curiosity I'm going to ask about the new 2020 Softail Standard Cruiser saw a video the other day. They made a few good upgrades on it 👍. Thanks for sharing.
All nice choices! I would not however, recommend any of them for a new rider. Best advice I can give is take a MSF course and start on a smaller bike then work up to a big twin. It is your money/choice tho. Whatever you decide, ride safe!
The sport glide is about 70 pounds heavier that a sportster, but handles completely different. Please take a motorcycle safety course, it'll help you if you go that big of a bike.
I am about to buy a late 2023 Sport Glide, and TBH in MHO its the best looking Harley currently available. I was tempted with the Breakout, but the dealer told me the Sport Glide will out corner it, and will out corner most Harleys. Now I live in a country with hardly any straights long boring roads. So cornering is a must... I know its no sports bike, I have my NEW GSX 8S for that...
I agree with your dislikes, I have changed my muffler to tab w/zombie baffle and my grips to avon. Im looking for a higher windshield and i put a 6 inch pull back riser. 1 other dislike I have is where the speedometer is located, i wish it was higher.
@@DCyclemoto mostly it the looks of them I dont like the look on the new Heritage. But that this Personal preference. 90 % of chosen a bike is the looks .
Exhaust - EPA regulations with our government, that is all bikes. Rinehart has a nice muffler for it. Taking delivery of my new Sport Glide today love the comfort of the bike. Putting a vance and Hines pro pipe with a torque cam stage 2 kit. I had many Harley in the past and what i do like about this bike is the weight and comfort, unbelievable. I should be getting lots of wind therapy and fun out of it.
lol. I just bought one and I agree with both your top 5 loves and hates for the Sport Glide. Overall, I LOVE this bike! Just starting to mod up. Thanks for the reviews and ride safe
Joined your channel because Beach Biker asked me to check it out. I live in central Florida and used to live just outside Chicago. I've subscribed because I really like your stuff. Eric
The only thing I hate is the damn kickstand. You have to lean it, relieve it, then kick it and lean it again, they should recall that thing before they get people hurt.
I love mine ....Vans and Hines full exhaust and a Screaming Eagle big sucker breather Willie G skull gas caps and mirrors and getting ready to black out center console
You said "everybody's got different flavour about the style of their bike". Agree. Why would you have expensive "stylish" stock grips on the bike when you change it anyway? 🤔
Hartmut S. That’s actually a great point. But, if they stepped up their game with nicer stock options, they would avoid consumers reaching to the aftermarket companies which now especially, Harley doesn’t want happening. Why not keep that business? My Avons were 30 bucks and they are fantastic. Harley charges way too much for their offerings, which doesn’t help their cause. Thanks for watching!
ok you got to remember Harley sells motorcycles all over the world. besides having to meet the stringent epa guidelines they had to settle a case in regard to this where they must meet the standards or not sell bikes. it was a very serious matter. that is why their SE Pro Tuner does not tune like you would want. it has to stay inside the guidelines. the other tuners don't sell bikes so they get away with it. so to say for Harley to put louder pipes is not fair to the Motor Company. you have that option to do whatever you want after you buy it. I know some states are starting to get crazy with noise limits etc. luckily I live in florida and we don't have state inspections. but anyway we have great bikes. quality to me is second to none. I own the 2018 114 Heritage.
The Heritage seems to be a pretty popular bike these days! Illinois doesn’t have noise Nazis either so we’re in the same boat. Really don’t want to wait to wait until warranty is up to tune so the SE tuner may be the only option. I just wish it was as easy and user friendly as the fp3.
oh I know. the se is not as friendly. I was on it yesterday trying to figure it all out. uggggh. just not as obvious as the fp3. I want my warranty though. i was looking at the throttle progressivity yesterday was curious about that. would like a little more crispness in the throttle. i need to go to the dealer and ask a few questions from a tech. i will get a fp3 later for this bike later. ugggh more money. your bike is great. i like that model. i really like the softail lineup.
Why does he own a bike to pick it apart? My ‘19 Sport Glide has the Stage 1 and 2 installed with Rinehart slip ons. A ten inch Slipstream windshield works just fine with the stock fairing. The grips can be replaced whenever. The M8 engine is awesome. Maybe he should purchase a Gold Wing.
He has fixed all of his dislikes and loves his Sport Glide! Stage 1 with Tab Performance Slip On with Zombie Baffle, Avon V-Cruiser Grips, Memphis Shades Road Warrior and more. I always have a 5 things I Love video. Check it out!
@@DCyclemoto I don't like loud pipes on my motorcycle. I don't have problem with people putting loud pipes on theirs as long as they don't do 5am brap near me. But not having 2 into 1 on a club style harley is criminal offense.
Didn't like the fact you can't fit a helmet in the panniers so had to buy a rack from H-D, not cheap, and stuck a Givi top box on for touring so I don't have to lug my helmet about. Otherwise I love my Sport-Glide.
I think HATE is a bit of an eye catching word, I guess 5 dislikes would be more accurate but not sound as cool... There are very few people that will buy a Sport Glide or any Harley Davidson for that matter and keep it completely stock, its the imperfections that you change that make it what you want it to be... I now have a Bassani exhaust, stock fairing but with a 5.5" HD screen, heated HD grips as I live in a cold country so its gotta have heated grips! As for the sewing machine sound I'm super happy with my 2020 Sport Glide now I have the Bassani, screaming eagle air cleaner and Vance and Hines fuelpak.
Unless you plan on keeping the bike and never getting rid of it, you can customize it to your hearts content.Keep in mind though, that if you sink a shit ton of money into it, you’ll never recover that money if and when you decide to get rid of it.
i just went on a test ride for this and am inlove with it. this list helped me but i felt like your points are moot. just imo. the sound is good, i actually like the farring, and as of june 1st theres plenty of aftermarket options, and the grips dont mean much to me. i never ride without gloves. so... but thanks for your imput
Xàphán of the Nightfall These videos are always 100% opinions. Everyone has their own take on likes as dislikes. These were just mine. Thanks for watching!
You hate the stock exhaust, stock handgrips, slim aftermarket options being its newer model. Other than the fairing this video could have been called "5 Things I HATE About The Harley Davidson M8 Softail. honestly you shouldn't hate a product based on aftermarket options. in the voice of Borat "Very nice product, can I change it? No Than I hate it lol".
Can’t say it doesn’t help. The greatest riders can make mistakes, also they cannot stop others from making them. Rides are never predictable. Doesn’t matter how good of a rider you are.
If you don't live in a rural area, and live in the city, your neighbors do NOT appreciate your loud exhaust systems. I don't care if its on a Harley, a Honda, a British bike, or a Dodge /Plymouth with a Hemi. I don't want to hear it and I shouldn't have to hear it.

@@joelsmithers6887 I do plan on taking the MSF course. Thanks for responding. Ride Safe.......
Sport Glide is actually 140 lbs heavier than a Sportster.
Fair enough. As for looks for Me its fairing ,bags and exhaust .
The Blue Bike & Doyle Just curious, what about the bags?
@@DCyclemoto mostly it the looks of them I dont like the look on the new Heritage. But that this Personal preference. 90 % of chosen a bike is the looks .
@@DCyclemoto by you changing the Fairing will change the look of the whole bikes .
The Blue Bike & Doyle It certainly did!
M8 sewing machine, sporty sounds like it’s blowing apart. If I had to choose going with sporty. Exhaust helps a lot with the m8. Nice video 👍.
Tony Cox Yeah, with my Tab muffler, I don’t notice it as much. Everything on this list is easily improved.👍🏻
Welcome to the #sportglidearmy ! What mods you doing?
Joined your channel because Beach Biker asked me to check it out.
I live in central Florida and used to live just outside Chicago.
I've subscribed because I really like your stuff.
Eric
Eric Rusch Sr Much appreciated, Eric! Thanks for giving me a chance!🤘🏻
What type of slip on do you have installed? Is it the Tab performance zombie baffle or the medium loudness?
Zombie
Hate or Dislike...Quite Bikes are a gold mine..
I liked you top 5 list. And this list is pretty minimal. The sport glide is gonna be my next bike!
I agree. This was one of the better and more fair 5 things video
The only thing I hate is the damn kickstand. You have to lean it, relieve it, then kick it and lean it again, they should recall that thing before they get people hurt.
It can be sketchy at first but you get used to it.
I love mine ....Vans and Hines full exhaust and a Screaming Eagle big sucker breather Willie G skull gas caps and mirrors and getting ready to black out center console
Richard Figiel Hell yeah!
Richard Figiel How much HP you get now?
@@DCyclemoto I haven't put it on the dyno yet but it will kick you back in the seat a few inches at 3100 RPM haven't brought it over that yet
2019 with Rinehart inverted air cleaner and Rinehart Slip-on + stage 2 torque
Sound's GREAT
Yo Litchfield! I’m from Edwardsville and just bought a Spirt Glide! Awesome bike!
Good to know another one is nearby!
We’re you riding around Edwardsville this afternoon? Saw a Sport Glide!
Bro! I'm in Litchfield too! I see you all the time going to Rural King and shit lmao. I have a blue Sporty. See you on the road brother
Nice! 🤘🏻
I don't like loud pipe and here in California, I can't even find a legal 2 into 1 for new softails.
The whole state doesn’t like loud pipes! LOL
@@DCyclemoto
I don't like loud pipes on my motorcycle. I don't have problem with people putting loud pipes on theirs as long as they don't do 5am brap near me.
But not having 2 into 1 on a club style harley is criminal offense.
It’s the counter balance drive.
Didn't like the fact you can't fit a helmet in the panniers so had to buy a rack from H-D, not cheap, and stuck a Givi top box on for touring so I don't have to lug my helmet about. Otherwise I love my Sport-Glide.
Colin Yeah makes it a little inconvenient doesn’t it? I usually just take my lid in with me wherever I go so it’s not a big minus for me.
Fogging of the instrument display is a common pain in the arse
Got mine in 2020 and now I am planning to switch it in stage 1 + rinehart slip on or double exhaust from my zodiac dealer
I loved the Sport Glide then the Lowrider ST and Diablo came along. . .
Ok. . .
Unless you plan on keeping the bike and never getting rid of it, you can customize it to your hearts content.Keep in mind though, that if you sink a shit ton of money into it, you’ll never recover that money if and when you decide to get rid of it.
True, customizing Is only for the person who customized it. Next person won't pay for it, and each person is different, so they may not even like it
2" Risers for the handlebars make a real difference. I put 14" Apes on mine.
i just went on a test ride for this and am inlove with it. this list helped me but i felt like your points are moot. just imo. the sound is good, i actually like the farring, and as of june 1st theres plenty of aftermarket options, and the grips dont mean much to me. i never ride without gloves. so... but thanks for your imput
Xàphán of the Nightfall These videos are always 100% opinions. Everyone has their own take on likes as dislikes. These were just mine. Thanks for watching!
Love that fairing on there!!! Totally changes the bike.
Skunk72 Thanks, man! Memphis Shades makes some great products.
Great video!!
I hate the fairing you put on I like the old one
We all have different tastes, guy.
I believe Harley makes a 5.5" windscreen that you can swap out with the stock fairing so you can keep the look
Michael Gonzalez They do but I don’t like the aesthetics of it very much.
i love mine
I can agree with your list. I ride a Roadking Special up in Minnesota and feel your winter blues. Congrats now for 1K it will happen.
Doesn't sound like you dislike it too much....
Correct! Great motorcycle!
Change your headers bud. 2into2 short shots sounds like a twin cam
2into1=more power
6:34 Don't go south!
Yeah not a great place to visit.
Thanks for watching!
Very nice D🏍 👍
Marty Porter Sr Thanks, Marty!🤘🏻
quiet is good, learning to ride is the best safety feature. if you're relying on a loud pipe to save your life you're doomed.
Can’t say it doesn’t help. The greatest riders can make mistakes, also they cannot stop others from making them. Rides are never predictable. Doesn’t matter how good of a rider you are.
Just change it
I did😎
If you don't live in a rural area, and live in the city, your neighbors do NOT appreciate your loud exhaust systems. I don't care if its on a Harley, a Honda, a British bike, or a Dodge /Plymouth with a Hemi. I don't want to hear it and I shouldn't have to hear it.
If a loud motorcycle is the worst of the troubles in your neighborhood, feel blessed.
I hate NOTHING about my sport glide- you might be on the wrong bike
