  • This is my first ever ride on a Harley Davidson motorbike!! Harley Davidson Watford kindly lent me a Sport Glide for the day. I was so excited for my first time on a Harley, the classic American cruiser motorcycle with its Milwaukee 107 V Twin motor.
    Everyone should ride a Harley Davidson at least once. For my first ever ride I review the 2022 Sport Glide, with it thumping V Twin. What are Harley Davidsons like to ride, and are they any good?

    What a brilliant video! I loved hearing your excitement and “WEEEEE!“ Exclamations. Like a kid in a candy shop. :-)
    Yes, Harleys are very expensive but very characterful and, much like Triumphs in the UK, the American version of the ultimate classic motorcycle. I think that’s why so many people who love Harleys also like Triumphs, and vice versa. Both very characterful, stunningly beautiful, classic machines, and both are on the pricier side, with obviously Harley beating out in price and weight. :-)
    One of my favorite videos you’ve done so far! It truly is the perfect example of your mission: living your best life, living free, doing what you love, getting the opportunity for your FIRST ride on a Harley Davidson because you’ve created this channel and taken control and making your life what you want it to be. So impressive. Keep it up! Ciao Bella!

    My first Harley was a 1966 Sprint 350cc and went on to four more ending with a 1997 Buell (Sportster engined) but as with anything too much is too boring and I went on to Yamaha, Kawasaki, Victory and finally back to my first love British bikes. I always was happy to have had the Harleys but here in the US it's a bit too common now! When I go out for a ride the bulk of what I see riding are Harleys with pirates at the helm, which is not my cup of tea. To each his own and when the bug bites you you may have to scratch that expensive itch. Enjoyed your impressions.

      Hi Mike, wow nice you have had a great history with Harleys 👍 Some real classics, I bet they had bags of character!! 😂pirates at the helm, nice one! I am yet to get out to the US to go riding, but it has been one of my dreams since a very young age to ride across America on a Harley Davidson! Hopefully I will get to do it and film it at the same time.
      I can imagine that they (Harleys) are everywhere in America. I think I wouldn't get a Harley for in the UK because of the small roads and the state of them. The Speedmaster is much more suited to UK roads.
      Absolutely I think that bug is just having a taste at the moment but may bite very soon 😉.
      Thanks for the comment that was interesting to read. All the best

    It's very nice that you are open to any bike. It seems like a lot of people feel the need to talk negatively about any other bikes than the one they ride themselves. Even though they may never have even sat on any other bike! See you in the next one!

    Really nice to hear a fresh perspective on the Sport Glide. I currently own a 19 Sport Glide and have owned many Harleys exclusively since the day i got my license, so i'm a little biased, but certainly acknowledge the good and the bad.

    I think nearly all the reviewers that I have seen ride a Harley, become more and more impressed as they ride them. They are so iconic, they are definitely a lottery win bike for me. Probably a Soft Tail Slim because of the height and I'll always love a Fat Boy. How did you find the seat height on this?

    • @redangrevival
      @redangrevival  2 роки тому +5

      Hi Lily, yup they seem like that kind of bike to me. The more you ride it the better it gets!
      Haha yea they are pricey!! A lot of money for a lot of bike. Seat height was very good, very similar to the Speedmaster. Very comfortable as well. I would say I think the handle bars could be a bit closer as I was reaching a bit! I definitely love Harleys now.
      All the best

    • @redangrevival
      @redangrevival  2 роки тому

      Hi, thanks really glad you liked the vid 👍 Haha yup I was very excited for it, first time ever on a Harley, a big moment! I personally think Harleys are a little bit over priced! But if you go to the second hand market they are much more reasonable. I definitely would not recommend it for a total beginner!! It is a big heavy motorbike with lots of power. I am biased of course but a Triumph Speedmaster would be more suited to a new rider. Or perhaps a Honda Rebel. Or even the Harley softail standard.
      However if you have your heart set on the Sport Glide then take one for a test ride and see what you think of it. All the best and good luck 👍

    I had 5 Harley's over the years, the 5th bike was a 2017 Streetglide with the 107ci motor, it was a pig of a bike, there were so many things that had to be fixed or replaced under warranty.... The last straw was when the bike needed a full engine rebuild at 15,500 miles, needless to say I got rid of it and bought my 3rd Triumph, a 2020 Speedmaster and that bike has been great....at times I do miss the torque of the HD motor, but!....I have to say the other 4 Harley's I owned, I rode the wheels off them....Oh Yeah....the Sportglide has a digital tach,trip meter etc....

    • @redangrevival
      @redangrevival  2 роки тому +1

      Hey Jeff, nice that was really good to read 👍Sounds like your Streetglide was a bad egg, full engine rebuild!! Blimey. Just bad luck, I guess it happens with most manufacturers if you have owned enough of their bikes. Every now and then you get an unlucky bike. Great move to the Speedmaster, I know what you mean about the torque. I feel that it makes the Speedmaster quite endearing though. However a big lump of torque is always nice!
      👍Thanks I thought it might do, I was pushed for time and couldn't find it! That does make it more useful.

With the bigger panniers/engine and wind protection it just makes more sense for longer trips.

And either i missed it or you haven't posted it yet but how is the comfort, the seat specifically, on the Speedmaster? I love the look of the Triumph Speedmaster, but I'm not into cruisers. I don't really get these big heavy Harley, Indian, etc bikes for UK roads. Never have really. The US where they have long long flat straights with few bends in hundreds and hundreds of miles yes fine I see the draw of them but the UK not really. There are better bikes to munch miles on be more comfortable such as the current crop of adv bikes which are so popular with their sit up arm chair like comfort. I just wish Triumph had given their Speedmaster a little more grunt. 100bhp as minimum would have been nice with a corresponding small jump in torque to match. I think it is very possible given that pretty much the same engine in the Thruxtion R and RS and also the Speed Twin kicks out more power. Maybe with your Speedmaster out of warranty it might be worth considering an aftermarket re-map to give your bike this increased power output? there is place in London near row bike cafe you did a video on that does cruiser type customisations, engine tuning work etc. Never ever used them just seen pics and videos and their work looks top notch although I cannot remember their name sorry. Also a different map might make the engine less ragged at the top end as it definitely does become so from 75-80+ mph upwards on the std tune map as it starts to run out of breath. I think the SM looks better than the Harleys anyway. Triumph nailed it in the looks department. I thought maybe this Harley you rode might have had better ground clearance as the pipes seemed to sit higher up on it so maybe it bottomed out less easily than your SM? You didn't mention this. Shame it didn't have a rev counter, a nice old style analogue needle rev counter would have been nice. But then again your SM only has a single dash clock which imho looks a bit cheap and plasticy perhaps the bikes weakest point?

      I traded a 2013 FJR for my Speedmaster and the forward controls did take a bit of getting used to along with all the low end torque but the bike is not heavy and handles about as well as any bike I have ridden. Comfort wise as long as you have one of the comfort seats and are not shy about adjusting the monoshock , it isn't too bad. I bought a 2021 model and immediately ordered the comfort seats, which now are standard of course, because my wife will never ride anything but a gel or comfort seat because of back issues. The bike has a lot less power than the 140 horse I was used to so I found I had to adjust my riding style a bit but it still has plenty of torque and quickness to merge into traffic etc one cannot cruise at high speeds the way I could on any of my sport-tourers but it is more than adequate for "legal" highway speeds.

    • @redangrevival

      Cheers Alex, great read as always 👍 I suppose it is each to their own. However I tend to agree with the big cruisers on UK roads (unless you are doing long miles) with the condition of our roads and the size of them I feel that the Speedmaster is more suited to UK roads. However I do completely understand the appeal of the big cruisers.
      Yup I definitely would like a bit more power from the Speedmaster, I had the same problem with my old Street Scrambler 900. Just completely flat at top revs. Thanks I will look into that place in London. There is a company up north called "tec bike parts" they specialise in Bonneville Triumphs and are very good. I got my de-cat X Pipe from them. Highly recommend. To be honest that is a good point that I will look into with the ground clearance. It felt as if the Harleys may be a bit higher but I cannot confirm!
      Agreed the plastic dash on the Speedmaster is one of its weakest points and unfortunately it is right in front of you!

      @@redangrevival Thanks so much for your reply. Sorry for my essay. With the crop of Triumph 1200cc engines, high power or high torque what ever, I feel Triumph should tune them that the bike they put them in can easily achieve 100mph without protest or running out of breath. Should be fairly easy for a big 1200cc engine given many litre bikes can push out 200bhp now. Even the Thruxton R I rode back in 2018 struggled a bit above about 80mph. I don't think Triumph's 1200 twin engine is as good as their triple engines such as in the Street and Speed triples and also Adv bikes.
      Good luck with the channel. It is a lot of hard work if that's what you want to do. ATB.

      😂😂 I know where your coming from!!
      They definitely are on the pricey side. I was impressed with the quality of the materials, but still very expensive!
      All the best 👍

      Overpriced and not reliable compared to what? That's sort of like saying Rolex is overpriced compared to Casio. They both tell the time but where is the ownership experience in that. Life is too short to always buy the Casio.

      @@MTBrider26 Compared to a Yamaha or Honda or even a Triumph. They are all bikes that will do the same thing well without the frequent recalls. As far as the casio-rolex comparison I would say that's all about perception but if I wanted to drop the coin to get a Harley I would get an Indian instead from what I have seen, a buddy has a chieftain, the fit & finish of an Indian is just as nice or better than a Harley along with dead nuts reliability.

      @@steveoconnor7069 but this a Harley review not an Indian review. But as for recalls in Australia the order from worse to best for the brands you nominate according to the Gov ACCC is Honda, Yamaha, Harley then Triumph. Harley's last recall in AU was in 2014 and they have only had a total of 5 since 1992 across a massive model range. Hardly qualifies Harley as an unreliable bike. Should say I have never owned one myself but I am glad they make them.
