It’s also great that they have a knowledgeable boss around who can actually help them and answer some questions. Not making your employees sweat and get all nervous. What’s your reaction to that?

After watching your videos on this gas boiler replacement, I decided to check my CO detector in my boiler room. To my surprise I realized that it was a smoke detector and not a CO detector. I am now going to order 3 new combination detectors (CO/Smoke) and install them ASAP throughout my home. I never would have thought to check my existing detector were it not for your video. Hopefully your video will inspire others to check their detectors and make sure they are not outdated and are functioning properly.
Thank you very much from a happy subscriber!

I am amazed at the amount of steam boilers in use in your area. Here in Toronto your lucky to see any steam systems in use in residential. I’ve been doing this since 1974 and I’ve only ever worked on two steam systems in residential and the last time was in the late 70’s. Seen you “ given her the ole gundy mama” 😂😂😂 . Great job guys. Another Fine looking steam boiler relacement job completed by Mikey Pipes & his Awesome crew. I began in this trade in 1980 with my Father's plumbing company. I'm now age 54 and I'm now employed by another plumbing contractor titled as their top hydronic heat expert/installer. My question is, why do you connect the cold water feed to the hot cast iron rear section of the boiler instead of piping it to the tempered wet return condensate?

Hey Mike, your absolutely right, you can never clean a sooted boiler and expect it to be good/safe after. I had one several years back that was sooted with over 3000ppm CO. The customer was the daughter of a manager and he thought he can be cleaned "no problem". Well, my self and my co-worker spent 6 hours, with the manager present cleaning the darn thing, and guess what? still had 500ppm of CO. In the end, I was right--new boiler needed to be installed no matter what you did. That is why it is essential to maintain your gas appliances yearly--especially gas fired boilers in our area! Great video and education as always Mike!!

Wago connectors have became very popular here in the UK for electricians and plumbers instead of the traditional wiring connector blocks they can be used for stranded or solid copper cable according to the specs and good for upto 450v at 32amps but uk electrics are 240v in residential homes

I'm also not a fan of the service switch on the ceiling. When I mentioned my Testo doesn't work in the cold, I was trying to tell you not to buy another one. I really enjoy watching your work. BTW I comment on "it isn't easy being cheesy" but he doesn't respond back.

  • @rudyvk

It has been told before. The Wagos are fine on line voltage. We in Europe run 16 Amp circuits over them.
However, a well mounted wire nut is just as good if not better than a Wago. The danger with wire nuts is that most people don’t know how to mount them the right way, that is a recipe for disaster.
We are still allowed to use them, but only on solid wire.
It alway surprises me how much electric work is needed for these steam boilers. Over here you see the all in one units like the Navian heaters all the time.
