I am a 65 year old Scots / Irish muso living in the ancient Forest of Hobbiton shire .. & a complete New guy to the world of Fx pedals etc .. I retired thru ill health & at 60 decided after years of just a gtr & an amp " Good enuff for Rory Gallagher & SRV etc " I ventured into the world of Fx .. I am writing to you because to my absolute delight .. you can actually play guitar really well .. I am waiting on an " El Mocambo " & I saw your film / " Content " on tube screamers & SRV tone & when it got to the end I was ready to click off just B4 you started to play .. But unlike hundreds of really clever guys who know a lot of stuff ( Like Josh JHS pedals ) & so many more there are very few who can really play .. & are not just Bullsh*tting .. & like my top pick of guitar players on u tube " Shut up & play " the guitar & the gear is / are the stars .. I have my channel disabled for comments & I am not looking for anything back .. no thanks buddy required .. But I am thanking you because for an old guy like myself with failing eyesight & arthritic hands etc .. I was basically told to give up ( spinal problems ) & I can't bend strings like I used to .. But I thought FF orget it lol I am not giving up .. So I have been learning all this stuff on line & you are one of the very few guys who is not so full of himself & just explaining things in a way even a new guy to inside of pedals can understand . So Big Thanks from an old muso .. I did try a few " Guitar Techs & had my old Telecaster & my lovely old Takamine ruined .. So I started learning how to do basic stuff myself . I don't feel sorry for myself just Pissed off at the people who will take advantage of someone as soon as they realise you don't know as much as they do .. Anyway I won't be a regular commenter . or bother you anymore But Keep it simple Big man .. in my not so humble opinion you are one of the Best out there . If you google Forest of Dean in England my wife & I live in the back end of nowhere .. But I am a recluse by nature .. Stay safe & be cool bye .
These videos are awesome. Nik, your the man!
HEY NIK! loved watching this!!!!!!
Really helpful tutorial Nik. I've a V847 and always felt the travel was slightly limiting, so I'm gonna apply a couple of these tweaks to mine. Thanks!
Great video.. I use a 90s Dunlop hendrix wah and with playing with the sweep I was able to get some lush tones.. thanks Nik.
That was super Nik thanks, answered all my questions, take care my man.
Very cool Nik, thanks for the video! Gotta find myself an old wah now...
Thanks dude, I learned some nifty tricks. You're playing was stellar.
This is fantastic!
Great Vid!! Love my 846. Thanks again!!!
I always wanted a good wah, and seem to have the worst luck with them. I have a Wilson vintage spec wah but can't get these tones for the life of me. Great sound and work! Absolutely love it.
Brings back memories, so many wahs, lol 👍
You nailed it Nik.....👍
GOOD video, very helpful brother. Great sound for sure. Thanx.
One of the best advices about Wah-Wah ! Love you man ill try to tune max of mine pedal (VOX V845 :/) and then ill decide if i ll get those fasels inductors and change the pcb...
Sounds killer!
Hi Nik Growing up Did not have money to buy all the new stuff so I modified what ever I had. I think all of us did this to some degree. I have to say you get right to the point of understanding the wah pedal. Thank you for your expertise.c]8-)
Frigging loved this Nik, loving your content of late. Wish these were available for "cheap" here in England
metalmulisha0143 thanks my friend. This was way under cost. You can find em!
The Riff w Nik Sevigny I wish I knew where buddy! Thanks for all the tips and info anyway as I guess it's applicable to any wahs, not just old ones, and thanks for the inspiration to carry on the wah wah hunt as I still haven't found one to nail the late 60s Jeff Beck sound I crave
Good advices man
awesome !!!
Really good ☺️
Cheers
Love this video man! Can you make a video where you go in-depth into the vintage wah-wahs. I don't know where to begin really, I know of "picture" and "Clyde" but not much more than the names. I have an RMC4 Picture and an RMC10 which I both like and I had one those ri Chinese handwired 846's earlier.. I'd like to get nerdy with wah-wah's but I don't know where to begin. Peace from Sweden
thx for the content... great job.
Thank you for watching
🤯🤯🤯🤯🤯🤯🤯😵😵😵😵😵 SIIIICCCCKKKKK!!!! Dude your the fucking man! Totally just opened my eyes and revamped my love of my RMC4. I know what I'll be obsessed with for the next few weeks 🥰
Great stuff man. What do you think of the stack of dimes?
please stop, im going dow the wah rabbit hole. just kidding, Outstanding videos dude😊
Awesome vid. You did a wan with. Nos parts. I n think you can get board. But u need to get case. And. Inductor. Which one. Goes with. That best. I can’t find that. One u did .
Wah this is cool
Sounds great man as always. Been learning some much from your channel and it keeps pushing me to chase "that tone"
Any thoughts on changing resistors / circuit mods? I've been fooling around with many wahs, modding them ,screwing them up in the proces, so if you have any idea's I'd like to hear them...
Heart Rock 'n Soul Musicproductions If you follow the link in the description it has a ton of mods for volume sweep gain and many more, you can have yourself some fun on the cheap and get that pedal sounding the way you want
Have you found that true-bypassing these pedals affects the sweep? I've heard that changing the bypass thins out the sweep compared to the non-true-bypassed pedal. Would love to hear about your experience with this. Thanks!
Personally no, but ive found the clarity to be defined once bypassed. Maybe sharper?
Make sure it's making the switch turn on and off, to low may not throw the switch inside to switch on and off. Lesson learned on my v846 stack of dimes I thought the arrow uk switch was bad but nah just not enough throw. ALSO..., when I bought it and inspected the teeth on the pot gear a couple were broken, this is caused by bottoming out the gear when putting toe down to turn it on and NOT leaving a couple teeth available to turn when switching it on. The original VOX owners pamphlet stated to leave a couple teeth available to turn wah on. ✌
The rubber grommets on the end with the switch are there to protect the switch from constantly being hit by the treadle. The on/off switch takes a beating from the treadle.
When modding a wah pedal you have to first ask yourself this question, do I like the sound of the wah as it stands now?
If not then you are probably up for a new inductor. I did all the mods to my Crybaby wah and found the mods can give you a bit more of this or a bit less of that, but not make it sound different.
I think the Ray Butt’s “Echosonic” was the first tape delay that wasn’t tied down to a studio, and Scotty Moore’s tracks may have even been the first recorded guitar w/delay (slapback) tones-certainly among the very first, but please correct me if I’m wrong.
Also of note, the Mr. Black x2 delay is certainly in a very sparsely populated space among “stereo” pedals, in that it has two independent circuits pretty much from input to output. Most so-called stereo pedals aren’t true stereo, in that regards..
Thanks for doing what you do! (Here from 60CH 😎)
Thanks a lot
Most welcome
Que pedal.es el pequeño x favor y que funciona cumple
good evening I need the electronic diagram of the wah wah pedal v847 thank you
Tjhis is goibg to sound odd, vut could you do a video on the difference of sound between a wah that has a true bypass and one that does not. Im new to this pedal stuff and want to learn it.
He adds a true bypass later in the video. You can compare the two clean signals (with the wah in chain) and see how true bypass effects your tone. Sometimes non true bypass pedals suck the high end out of your signal even when turned off. wah pedals commonly suffer from this issue.
Very cool....I have an old DA Wah Face that needs a new pot Analogman cleaned it up for me but said it would last and when I got it home the 2nd time I played it it took a dump Was kinda pissed but guess it wasnt his fault ......so needing a new pot
I guess was wondering what the diff pots were...Maconna-wah makes a good one but what exactly is it ? If you know Thanks
What’s the value of these? I have one that has the same components
Classic
I just got one of these but it has a vox plate on front did they come with those? Also the original icar is shot might put in a castledine
I have icars im selling soon. Watch out on my instagram
Hey Nik, I recently took a v847 and modded it with detrick’s vintage wah kit. I’m having a problem with the circuit grounding on parts of the case, I think it’s right where the screw holds it in place. I noticed the pcb traces come awfully close to the mounting hole the screw goes in to, and also one of the pins is right up against the head of the screw. Have you had this problem before? How should I fix it? Thanks
Cut out a piece of non conductive material and place it under the board
Hello. I cannot seem to find instructions for installing the DPDT switch in the link you provided. Do you have another link that could work?
same here cant fine any tutorial for old jen wahwah
picked up a dunlap cry baby bass gcb 100 will those work on guitar good?
I would check online. There are a few simple mods you can do to get it working great for guitar
Is there much of a perceived value job when the wire is engaged after the true bypass? i know technically it's the bypassed signal being stronger but don't want the wah to seem quiet when engaged.
Volume drop? Each wah is different. Some dont need true bypassing, they do something cool. Lately i dig em non true bypass
@@theriffwniksevigny5473 sorry yeah volume drop* Stuart castledine had said when after you true bypass a wah the bypass signal will sound brighter and stronger so then when you then use the wah it will sound quieter, which it is not, just the bypass signal is now just brighter and stronger. I just wondered if u had noticed this after taking wahs true bypass?
@@guitarstrange2478 its clearer and doesn’t Load the overall signal.
Hey Nik, do you have a detailed video of how to do the true bypass on a vintage wah like this? (Mine is a vox v846 trash can)
Its the same
@@theriffwniksevigny5473do you notice a volume drop in the wah after true bypassing it?
@@guitarstrange2478 sometimes. You can change the 68k resistor to a 47k to help it
I've got a very early Grey vox & the treadle travel is far greater than any other pedal, too much travel for the Pot in fact.. plan to use thicker rubber stops to lesson the travel & start putting the pedal into good use..
Excellent!!!
Yo Nik, do you have a schematic or guide on how to true bypass? I have a Carling switch I want to drop in my 846 but I have no idea what I’m doing.
Description...
where did you get the little, thinner rubber feet from...? The ones that have come with my wahs have been ridiculously thick and narrowed the travel so much, I just ripped them off, but those thinner rubber feet look like they'd work much better, still providing quite a bit more travel than the ones my wahs have come with, if I could just locate some.
Razor blade, trim to thickness...
Sounded killer at the end! How much does a vintage piece like this run?
Prob about 400-1000 depending on year
That ones also in relatively good condition
Man that pot sweep is nice!
What size hookup wire for wah? 22awg?
Yes
Nik,is wiring different on Tru talk po.than wiring pattern on Dunlap gbc95 wha,l went yellow, blk.,blue like old one now the heel po. is not working, any suggestions, thanks bro.
Ground is closesto to the circuit board. Blue is furthest. Yellow in middle
@@theriffwniksevigny5473 thanks so much,
@@theriffwniksevigny5473 so the black ground, yellow middle, blue last sound right?
@@theriffwniksevigny5473 Nik, what preamp tube are u using starting with Vl, sup reverb is what I'm hearing, thanks.
Great video my only dissappointment was you did not show us how to wire up the carling for true by pass. I want to do this mod now because my switch in my old vox has broken :(
Sweet but Did you read the description at all? It’s right there my friend
@@theriffwniksevigny5473 My apoligies good sir, Your right forgot to press 'show more' to read all the description and get the link. Thanks for pointing that out!
Jon Prothero thank you. And im glad you enjoyed the video. I appreciate the interest
👍#thesesmalltricks
Sounds like a winner. what's the best wah wah available today to get that classic wah tone?
There are so many great wahs from ChaseTone, Venus, Oxbow, Weaverfx. All do great things!
@@theriffwniksevigny5473 I just bought a Fulltone Clyde we shall see. Your playing sounds great and is inspirational. Really enjoyed the 3-4 vids I watched. I'll check out the wahs you recommend.
Budgies! :-)))
What kind of switch, and how to wire it.
Everything is in the description..
@@theriffwniksevigny5473 Thanks ,man.Missed that part .Had to go back to review. Cool man.

😀😀😀😀😀
I have a version V846 wah Italian made exact same inside trashcan inductor same capacitors just wondering if you could tell me what year those were from thks really love your videos
I used the deoxit 5 in two ICAR pots and noticed the scratch was reduced or eliminated, but not the background hiss.
But most of all after applying the Deoxit, the ICAR's impedance has increased a lot, practically tripled reaching over 2 megaohm
!
Since then I am careful to use the deoxit on the ICAR or ERT potentiometers.
The hiss is most likely a leaky component on the board. Or the transistors. They can produce the white noise
A short blast of deoxit will do ya. Be safe!
Do not use Deoxit to clean pots, use this instead: MG Chemicals
Part Number: 401B-140G. You can order on ebay or amazon etc...
It is specifically made for cleaning controls, contacts, selector switches, servomechanisms and contains a plastic and carbon conductor safe light mineral oil lubricant. Some other cleaners will strip the carbon element from the pot which is why the impedance increases and they also leave the pot dry. This will lead to increased wear.
@@nonameinfl what do you think about Deoxit Fader?
This is the kind of gear videos we all need
