It's very sad to see, some vatos grow out of it and some can't kick the lifestyle and in the end all it does is bring pain and heartbreak to the ones that love and care for you.

True it's hard to leave it. I did 8 years for manslaughter. I went to court for murder and two attemoted murders. Looking at 3 life sentences at age 16. Already had 26 charges at that age. Some were still pending but we're dropped cause I was charged as an adult. I never left my gang. I just paroled out of state because my mom asked me to. I was 24 when I paroled. Still a knuckle head but was working 3 jobs and ony own after 6 months. Got married had kids and bought a house. I was lucky I guess. I can still go to the hood and get respect but I'm none active. I didn't leave my gang and I'm 48 now but I changed my life to a family man.

I have a very similar story to yours. When I was 16 got caught up in another hoods beef and someone got killed. They wanted to change me as an adult as well, they even let me bond out because I was being charged as a adult. Juveniles can't get bond here in New Mexico but good thing i had a decent paid lawyer. She got me a plea deal for conspiracy to commit murder and got me a youthful offender sentence in the new mexico boys school till I was 21 but she also got a 3 month reconsideration and when I went to court for the reconsideration they let me out. I wasn't a shit stick just got caught up in the wrong place at the wrong time. But just experiencing that at a young age really did set me straight i mean I still did dumb shit from time to time but I always had what happened to me when I was young and how it affected my mom in the back of my mind.

Ese cuarentas man much respect to that vato. Reminds me of one of my big homies aka "GATO" always tried looking out for us younger generation tought us how to get down and dirty but also always adviced us not to revolv our vida to only the gang and because of his words of wisdom and my own growth and reflections i did later on leave the hood behind. For all the younger people thinking you have to be tuff or be in gangs try to fight against it man sure you have good times but like 40 said there's a price to pay when you want to live the life. Now i understand reality and there are better things in life then to live and die by the gun im 25 and im glad to still be around but there are memories and traumas that'll never be forgotten.

I just came across this channel today and I'm loving it. I still live here in Artesia. I went to school with a few of these guys, including some of the ones mentioned that have passed on. I can tell you first hand that this town was wild at one time. Things have calmed down a lot over the years, but there was a time when you couldn't walk anywhere without altercation. I really enjoy these clips and it's nice to see our town get some exposure. Everyone knows Artesia for the oilfield and the football but if you grew up on the block, then you saw this whole town differently.

You should make a parallel series of videos that showcase the people who were in the exact same set of circumstances yet DIDN’T choose to take the worse route. Their strength and courage to make good decisions in-spite of their surroundings should be acknowledged. There’s a ton of Latino people out there that should be given recognition.

Like me my dad was a sur 13 from Hobbs NM he was high up in rank, they wanted me to be next in line, so my mom moved us to Mississippi any time they tried to get me the black gangs from New Orleans would close their operation down so I got lucky so cartels started opening up operation trying to build a strong hold here for Mexican gangs making it much harder for me to hide from them I know this because fbi was looking for my dad and a little bit from close family members, eventually I got shot at going to NM visiting family there, but for the most part I live a normal life, it messes with me I can't visit family when I want to. I learned a lot from my dad how to make money that's why I was valuable to sur 13s, it was crazy for a long time until sur 13 are now latin kings.

I love what he speaks to the youth. As someone who grew up in Sureño gangs, I wish my brother, his homies & my homies heard this. My homie died months after turning 21 years old. Now he has a daughter that asks about him every day… Same thing with my brother & my nephew… Change your life around if you’re stuck in this cycle like the big homie says… We only have one life, let’s not waste it over something stupid… (For those that want to know, my homie was killed by Sureños from another hood because he got too much clout & my brother died at the hands of the law.. They could have resuscitated him if they wanted to, but let him die because he was a “meaningless gangbanger”….

Ill say from my own exsperience.. when you are dying and you feel yourself getting weaker, tired.. you then start to feel this feeling that yr kinda starting to get outside of your body.. i didnt go any further than that feeling, but i knew 100% that that was the last stage of death! But when i was at the peek of worrying if i was gonna die or not, at that very moment everything became pin point clear.. my life.. all the regrets was very very strong with a sadness i can not put into words of how deep and sorrowful and heavy it felt inside of me! Ill never forget that feeling, you cant forget something so dam strong. Then the realization of what i have done with my life... and the waist of it and how spacial life really is. Its almost as if my brain.. no.. my soul, my very core being was downloaded with knowledge of everything in life, this world, and myself! all in a fraction of a second i was give knowledge of everything in the universe by God and i was very very ashamed of myself. Its the most dream like thing, but at the same time the most real, most awake and most alive ive ever felt then i died... (so i thought)darkness and falling.. falling faster and faster and soon i was like o no... im gonna hit the ground any second! Im not gonna go on what all happened after that but im here today and im going to tell who ever is reading this 100% with no doubts there is a hell, there are demons... and the king devil himself and where he sat is surrounded by gold coins all around, and there is a heaven, heavens angels just as well! Its more real in the next world than this earth! Your more alive too! Ill leave with this warning, when Jesus Christ 1st preached his 1st sermon what did he 1st say? He said..." repen"! Repent means to change your life, turn away from sin.. then he said "and believe in the gospel" gospel? What the gospel? Gospel means, the good news! In short.. turn from a life of sin and believe the Jesus Christ the son of God came down here and gave his life as payment of all mankinds sins, our debts have been pain in full. Anyways im writing a dang book here but anyone can be forgiven and have eternal life in heaven if they repent and believe in the gospel. Im no saint, you out there believe what you want and all i can say is.. you dont believe in hell? You will when you get there!!! Listen to a mans thats been in hell, he's here on youtube... im not trying to promote anyone or anything.. his name is Bill Weiss. If nothing else its some terrifying shit to hear and i believe 100% because i myself have had a similar experience and i wasnt fkin dreaming, i was more alive and awake than humanly possible believe you me! Its our own choice. Now im much older, hopefully wiser... i miss it sometimes, ive been mega ghetto rich many times.. and ive went days on end with nothing to eating.. in group homes in the 80's to turning 18.. then 21 locked up to living in a car for 6 months to having my own cleaning business cleaning working every day for 15 years straight with only Christmas day off till now today.. my moms passing just this August 25 2021 talking care of my father with Alzheimer's! My cleaning business thanks to covid is gone, i was making 100k a yaer cleaning 3 very large buildings myself.. to be back at square 1, as if im 18 again lol lifes a trip... but im alive to start again, ive got my 2 sisters n thats it... its more than some n less than most.. but im a fkin warrior, its what a hard life has mad me! A better wiser more loving and honest human being. Im still down.. but in the right way for all the right reasons. I havent had it the worst n i haven't had it the easiest either but im here.. your here.. you can achieve anything if you really want it in this life. Much love! May we all find peace and harmony.

Interesting, I took a .40 caliber hollow point bullet to the chest right outside my mom's house. I started leaking blood quick, the flow of it reminded me of the flow of oil when you are doing an oil change on your car, the moment when you remove the screw and the oil begins to flow out. Anyways as I was waiting for the ambulance I started to black out at that moment I accepted my death. I told my mom "mom I'm about to die but don't worry I have life insurance through my job you're going to get cashed out". The weird thing is I was conscious the whole time till the vascular surgeon came and they put me to sleep for surgery. I woke up 2 days later mortified but happy that I was still alive. The lesson I got out of it was that anything negative going on with your life doesn't really matter. I was depressed and wanted to die but after going through this I learned I don't really want to die... Just live your life. God is good 👍🏽💯🤝🏽

Maybe something to examine for an episode?
Ranks in the Eme... I thought it was simply each brother was equal rank and usually the boss of their "varrio". I know in some cases like Florencia 13 we have the "Three Kings" but still.
So here we have a lot of guys online now saying we have lieutenants and captains... And lieutenants are known as the black hand/first or whatever they say because they can make the five full carnales. It is mostly old timers saying this stuff. Is that how it use to be back in the day but now everyone is equal or what is the story?
So what is the true structure of the Eme?

The man being interviewed is articulate, well -spoken and obviously very intelligent. Its sad to think of all what we may have lost in contributions to humanity what for a choice of gang life over further education. College, grad school...I think this man would have been - and could still be - successful in a professional capacity.
He is way more than his tattoos. That stands out and is pretty easy to see. Yet, its sad also. Wasted potential.

Not everyone could afford choices of that nature to go to school...nor do they have a choice NOT TO BE IN A GANG or don't have the knowledge of other opportunities after their in...majority of us were so young and needing to find a 'HERITAGE' TO HANG on to or something to connect to...we didn't see people going to college and making it that was like one in every few or NOT AT ALL...ALOT of members never get to make it out their city/state to see what else is out there nd that people don't have to live like us...ALOT OF US ESPECIALLY 90S BABIES had our fathers locked up so the hood needed us to step up at a young age...murders at 12 or younger... Selling dope at 9 years old...by the time you turn 16 you can NO LONGER GET A JOB kuz of your rap sheet...shit we didn't have the outlets these kids have nowadays to SEE what other people in the world are doing with their lives...or access to information like we got now...so it's not wasted talent...we were a product of our environment and circumstances and times...WE ARE WHO WE ARE...BUT who we chose to be tomorrow is what matters

@@itachiuchiha2401 Your reply to my original post....I'm struggling for words. It's a incredible response and brings insight into a time and place that only one who lived it could present. Thank you
Your reply brought to my attention an issue that many people will not consider they are blinded by. The issue is what I call 'soft racism' . For example, I have long considered myself to be very much an anti-racist and have put my time and money into causes that fight bigotry. I'm proud of those efforts however your reply brought home the fact that I still have much to learn. As a white male, I can never truly understand what the impact of systemic racism and injustice is because of all the intangible benefits that came from a upbringing where my color was a advantage.
I learned important things from your reply and appreciate you taking the time to write it. I'm going to keep pushing for justice and doing my best to bring awakening to those of my color who fail to see how much more needs to be learned and done before we are truly all equal in humanity.
      Thank you for thaf.

The problem is, while that’s all well and good…….innocent people get hurt or lose their life because of how others choose to live their life. If that wasn’t happening, then by all means live your life. Those people that lost their lives didn’t always choose to participate, but still lost their lives due too someone else’s lifestyle. 🤷🏻‍♀️

NM is a hard place to grow up in, but those who have overcame and are thriving are some of the strongest people I've ever known. Albuquerque is my hometown, i lived a gang life in my youth and somehow survived. I am now an IT consultant, a father of a Air Force sergeant and a grandpa of a 7 year old future president of the United States. I pray for all those struggling and living in the dark, i know it feels helpless at times but all you need is faith and ambition. Believe in yourself and protect your family. Life has a way of coming together. Puro Amor Familia. - Rage
