It is wild to hear these intense life stories from guys who seem so kind. The dude from MS-13 is describing these horrible situations with such a calm and grandfatherly voice. It's nice to hear about them turning their lives around, but it's also a real testament to how sad this situation is where people can get swept up in these lifestyles that turn otherwise kind people into criminals and killers. As shown here, a different set of circumstances as they'd never have been that person they used to be.

I don't know about that last part. People always find a way to express their evils in myriad ways. I'd rather think that it's because they fell to the lowest rungs of life and violence that they are who they are, not in spite of it. Not to glorify these lifestyles in any way, but people can fall in any walk of life. People can also rise in any walk of life. Glory be to Jesus Christ.

When you have been exposed to atrocity and death for a given period of time, you learn how fragile life (and the human body) actually is. One begins to speak in softer tones and look at flowers while enjoying the company of kittens. Yet, rest assured if that seemingly soft old man is crossed, one may discover the monster that once lived in that body. Just as the Ol'e Marine General once said "Be kind to everyone you meet,... And, have a plan to kill them if nessasary".
They are kind and gentle, because they choose to be. Think about it...

I completely know. Fully well. I was raised around them as my mom's dad did work for them but he wouldn't join them. My mom, uncle and my other cousins and myself and my brother when we got old enough we all seen and went through things nobody ever should. Then I got in a 3 1/2 year relationship with a POS who never joined the HA but he was raised by them and did work for them as he was the most abusive POS and I thank the Lord I got away from him and my family. After my mom died my cousins tried to murder me 4 times and I left and never went back. That was 7 years ago and I have NEVER spoken to them and plan to never ever go back. I've never been happier since uprooting myself from those scum bags and making a new life for myself. And I did. I was homeless for years. Now I'm going to college full time for nursing and business. My cousins are still popping out babies left and right for their mom to raise while they still do drugs, drink and pimp themselves out for the gang. I pray for their kids and my brother who is still stuck at that house in that life.

One takeaway I had while watching the entire thing was that a lot of gangs or crime organizations get formed due to a need to take control in the community. Due to the lack of presence and reliability of law enforcement, people tend toward the road of taking matters into their own hands--whether that be protecting people or creating an image of power. It shows how communities that are deprived of security will find a way to establish a system to make themselves feel safe by grabbing power. The trend of gang members being recruited at such a young age goes to show how weak the support systems are for young members in their society, reaching the extent that kids find themselves more inclined to pursue these organizations to be a part of something and feel a sense of camaraderie, even at the expense of committing to a life of crime. It takes a lot of willpower to subject yourself to that lifestyle and I'm sure it takes just as much to get yourself out of it too.

It is men who need to make and support change in other men and let younger men know that perpetuating a world of hurt onto your family, your wife and your children is not the way. Men have to earn the trust of their girlfriends, future partners and her network. There are many good and even great men out in our world so it can be done, it is no big secret.

The Mamas aren't doing the best job and no they're not doing it all on their own either. Now I'm talking about anybody who gets into criminal activity and not just gangs. That's also remember that there are also females in gangs. Sure the man do need to get out there and show young men how to be better men. There are men that are out there trying to make a difference unfortunately there are not enough because fools that have nothing to do with gangs prop up the lifestyle. That's the biggest problem is others outside of this problem making it cool. Young man listen to gangsta rap in the suburbs and given young criminals who literally kill people money. You know more power and more ego to never stop being part of the gang until they're dead.

Him being a pastor who used to be in a gang and lived the life style, has put him ina unique position to reach people who most church leaders csnt reach; because others cant truly say, " i know how it feels", "i know, i have been there."
A lot of people living in a cycle of life cant believe someone that tells them "the Lord can forgive you, if u repent and get baptized", if they havent lived that way before.

I’m not Christian BUT I’ve always trusted those kinds of pastors more. Former convicts, women, non-white, lesbian/gay, etc pastors have a stronger ability to convince me god may be real because through tough times, through ostracism, they found safety in religion. They don’t use the Bible to condemn others because they TRULY understand that’s Gods job to judge. Not theirs. (Obviously not generalizing, anyone can use the Bible to their own advantage) I’m proud of him. He seems to carry a lot of trauma when he speaks and if God and religion helps him come to terms with that, then I think it can only be a positive thing.

My dad and uncle were Crips, my uncle went away for over 10 years. When my uncle went away my dad and him both left the gang and left Compton. My uncle met my aunt before he went to jail and had my cousin. My dad met my mom at college, had my brother and I. I never got to meet my uncle, only speak to him on the phone. Despite this, my family continued to keep him in our lives. I remember the prison he was in let us all visit for his birthday. I saw his face for the first time since I was a baby. They let us take pictures, I still have it to this day. My uncle got released recently, and I met him for the first time without glass and cuffs. I didn't know we would be seeing when we went to visit my Grandma and cousin, when we saw him my dad was so shocked he couldn't even move. That first day I don't think we left each other's company. We call and text and facetime every day now, I never thought I'd see the day I could have such easy and quick communication with him.

These stories are valuable. Despite their differences, most gangs share similar core themes. The majority joined for protection, financial opportunity, and self-esteem. It's interesting that people also join hate groups for those same reasons. If we (society) really wanted to get rid of gangs, we would create opportunities in the communities where people are most at-risk for joining gangs. We're just not willing to spend money on community centers, education and social welfare. Too many people see that as "special treatment". I disagree, but I'm in the minority. My only criticism is of the MS13 guy. I wish he would have explained the argument for NOT deporting undocumented gang members. I have empathy for them and want to understand his point of view. Realistically though, every country I know of deports criminals who are non-citizens; we're no better or worse. Also, I don't understand why we should shoulder the social cost for the crimes, and then later the financial cost for the incarcerations, of people who aren't citizens? I'm not talking about regular people who happen to be undocumented, I mean the people he was describing to who come here as gang members, live here as gang members, and then get deported.

Well if u think about it, if u start deporting criminals to different countries that are still technically legal citizens, there will be a lot of gangs starting in those areas. They expand, and that’s even worse because it actually gives less opportunity for gang members to escape the gangs and their ideology. It’s a terrible solution long-term and it causes problems for several countries that can’t contain that amount of criminals.

In my experience living in a neighborhood with a lot of gang activity in North Portland, 2/3 of gang shooting victims are either random people who looked like the gang member or just a passer by getting shot. Only 1/3 of the time is the target person hit.

With all the respect I said LOL when I read North Portland. And I know it will I'm from Seattle and I did leave 10 years in East Los Angeles and the Bay area which take the cake in regards to organize gangs but no doubt Seattle and its surrounding areas or times more dangerous than North Portland for talking about actual gangs. I spent a lot of time in that area at the horse track as well. I just didn't notice.

The brother from the Latin Kings made me think about the similarities of gangs with cults and how they’re really defined by its ethnic and class signifiers. They’re both predominantly male-led criminal organizations that exploit children and women, playing on the same principles of capitalism and oppression within these condensed communities. It emphasizes my core belief that none of us are free until we ALL are free. It applies to so many aspects of society in America and beyond. My heart shatters for the people, but I have enough hope for us to pick those pieces up every day. I believe in a better future for all of us, but it involves letting go of the violent and exploitative nature of capitalism and white supremacy. It’s killing us, it’s killing our minds, it’s killing our children and it’s killing our cultures.

    • @SharpForceTrauma
      @SharpForceTrauma 9 місяців тому

It absolutely is. It's well known that the ATF have been involved in several gunrunning scandals.
Priority One of any organization is to ensure it's own existence. The ATF creates crime so they can continue to "fight" crime, and make alot of money doing so. The FBI keeps databases of all seized child porn and sells and distributes it to the dark web just so they can shut it down later. The DEA sells drugs they confiscate on the streets to wrap up gangs.
That's what your taxes pay for. Government sanctioned drug dealers.

We had gangs in the 80s 90s and early 00s alot of them died or got life in prison . Well my part of Detroit was like that I can't speak on these new clicks that's just a bunch of guys with Nothing to do from the same neighborhood. Southwest Detroit borders our downtown that's why I think things are changing because our downtown is wonderful.

The British "banger" (Omar Sharif?? Really? I mean, _come on!_ ) was utterly _hilarious!_ The most middle-class "OG" I've ever seen/heard. 😆He's from NW1 - for those that don't know, NW1 is _posh!_ Westminster, Fulham, Hammersmith, Islington, Chelsea, Kensington. I feel sure, dear reader, you've heard of at least one or two of these locations.
As for his accent, could he have been any more eloquent? Where was the "natta meen, blud? U feel mi? Wa gwan, roadmans dem..?" You want to hear what inner-city central London gangstas sound like? Watch Top Boy. Sounds _nothing like_ our Omar...
After a hard day's graft, this _really_ lifted my spirits. Thanks, uploader! 😁

thank God every day that I’m still here to be a better example for my son I’m in my 30s. I was in the streets since I was 16. Had good grades graduated high school went to college but I’ve always had 1 foot in the streets. I literally lost 27 homies the that stupid ish. Almost got killed a few times myself and I’m glad God gave me a strength to walk away. I see a lot of my friends that are over 30 still out here standing on the corner risking their life. I’m not about that anymore showing my son a better now that he’s 16 54:12 .
