    In Germany where I live or in Austria where I was born, one would NO use Crisco.
    Use B U T T E R .......otherwise ....good recipe !!

      Sandy Sandifer do prefer a traditional Gugelhupf baking form and good old butter instead of Crisco. Otherwise great recipe, Oma!

      My Oma and Urgrossmutter made some cakes with Lard. It was common then. I render lard for many recipes. Remember, when you substitute butter for lard or shortening, you have to account for the 20% of liquid that is in butter. You could use European butter, which has a higher butterfat content. Or slightly reduce the liquid in the recipe.

    Sorry, there isn't a written recipe right now, so you will just have to make notes as you are watching the video. Thanks for watching.

    • @momentswitheddie1
      @momentswitheddie1  10 років тому

      Crisco is an all-vegetable shortening used for frying and baking. If you google it you can get more info.

      A plant based butter replacement. I would never use anything other than butter in any cake.

    Baking powder, Oma ?! This is a Yeast cake , not Baking Powder !
