As a pianist, organist, and singer, I’m so habituated to sitting and standing up straight that anything resembling a slouch is very uncomfortable. I have a selection of dog bone shaped pillows that I use in the car because carmakers have yet to properly design seats for people like me who find the idea of a forced slouch and a forced head bow completely intolerable. My brother (who has lost several inches) and I looked at this video together and he will try some of these techniques.
I noticed I had lost some height and started taking a lot of collagen. After several months, I noticed my height had increased. Don’t forget how important diet is to maintain height and keep bones strong. Bone meal and vitamins D and K2 are also helpful. Thanks for the exercises as well. Lots of way to stay healthy.
Same thing here...I went to get a bone scan because my doctor wanted it. The technician was so short, she had to stand on her tipple toes to see the top of my head. She said "You are 5 foot two" 🙄 I tower over other women. There is no way I am that short. But, I have lost about an inch. Beware of short technicians 😂
I was 5’2” all of my adult life and I’ve lost 4” due to hemorrhaged and slipped discs. I actually do all of these stretches. I don’t think I’ve gained any height, but they do make my back feel so much better, with less pain.
I'm 100 percent with you on the exercises. I also think shrinkage is a nutritional issue. Two years ago, I noticed that I was slumping. I had T2 diabetes, arthritis, high blood pressure, brain fog, gum disease, and on and on. I discovered the Carnivore way of eating and went for it. Now all my ailments have gone away. I'm standing straight again. I easily lost 40-pounds. I am enjoying good health, great energy, no diagnoses, and I take no medicines. My diet is 100 percent animal based. Sugars, carbs, seed oils (canola, soy, corn, etc.) are all inflammatory and nutritionally deficient. I'll never go back to eating anything from plants!
Super professional and I appreciate the attention to detail with the props and explanation of these exercises. These videos are so informative and I learn so much from them.
Brad And Mike, These Are All Super Fantastic Exercises To Use To Straighten Our Backs. YAY!! .. Brad, You And Bob Have Always Provided Excellent Exercises For Seniors. Always Appreciated!! .. Please Say Hello To Bob!! ... We All Continue To Miss Him!! (:
Hi guys! Another super video to help people help themselves!! Thanks to one of your other videos, I LOVE the hanging bar!! Just five to ten seconds!! And a friend of mine took up yoga at 60 years old and she gained 3/4s of an inch back in height!! Anyways, stay tall!! 🙂
So good. Thanks for sharing. Do you have a playlist for all sorts of issues caused by the desk sitting mainly? Maybe you can create a video for the people who are suffering from neck, lower back, hips issues (all caused by sitting only jobs). It's so hard to find videos for each part of the body to do all the exercises. Maybe a consolidated one would be great, like must do exercises to eliminate the most potent issues caused by sitting only. Thanks!
I just mentioned this when I was looking for a new primary, as I knew this happens and my prior primary was very ignorant nonchalant attitude. THANK YOU!!!
LOL, he really is!! Bob is doing well and just helped write a book with Rick Olderman! It just came out on Amazon and we have a giveaway going on for it now as well :)
@@BobandBradWhat good news! I haven’t seen any other announcement of the book. It’s a bit buried here in the comments. Maybe put up a separate post about it?!
I would think the number one thing to do would be sleeping position. As gravity pulls down and compresses one's spine during the day at night the discs need to expand again. Start out in the fetal position - a stretched spine. A couple hours of de-compression makes sense to me.
I have osteoporosis . Studies show people lose 2 inches between 50 to 70 I think, and another inch by 80. I asked the medical assistant to measure my height along with my weight. I went from 5’6 to 5’4, I don’t know how long it took but I have seen the same doctor for Ten years. I was measured when I started and when I asked.nmy mother also lost 3” by age 80..
I was 5'8 1/2" as an 18 year old. Now, I am almost 60 and I am down to 5'5". Amazingly my brother, a year younger than me, has had several fusion surgeries in his back, and is still 5'11".
Decades ago, a famous ex-model used to train models. She corrected their posture by telling them to envision the tops of their ears as the tallest part of their bodies. When you do that, your posture corrects to a correct alignment. A good tactic to use when you are walking around.
For the "W" stretch I lay on the floor. Gravity helps me get my head back in the proper alignment and helps stretch my arms back. Hope I am not doing something wrong. It feels good.
I question whether decompression exercises could actually help reverse height loss, given that the human spine already decompresses when you sleep and will then compress again during the day. When you get out of bed in the morning, you're potentially up to an 1 inch taller (than at night before going to bed), due to the spine decompressing during sleep, but then this extra amount of height from the decompression is quickly lost during the day (maybe even within the first hour). Just not seeing how doing several minutes of decompression exercises will do anything about the discs losing resilience and the discs not providing as thick a cushion between the vertebrae as one gets older. Worth a try, but don't expect a miracle in terms of regaining lost height.
I am 66 and have lost over 2 inches. I’ve been wondering how this is happening. I’m sure this is true for most people, but I have a 14” steel rod fused to my spine. My spine cannot shrink. It must be coming from other areas than my spine. My legs do not seem to have shortened. ? Does anybody know?

I have an inversion table that I got for neck and back damage. I HOPE it's helping me to not lose height, but I'm scared to measure myself at 57 with osteoporosis. It may be bad news.
I’m not sure about chiropractic care helping maintain height, but classical Pilates can. The structured sequence of systematic lengthening and core plus bilateral balanced strengthening exercises definitely work.
I'm thinking about inventing a time machine and traveling back in time during the Spanish Inquisition. I'll let them put me on the rack and stretch me out
I like the exercises and believe that good posture helps one look taller. I am 5'1" so need all the help I can get. My BS meter signals me when you claim that stretching movements are going to allow the disks to get thicker. Has anyone actually done a study where this has been measured and reported in a peer reviewed medical journal?
I tend to agree with you. See the comment I just posted. (where I talk about how the spine decompresses at night during sleep but then compresses again during the day)

hydrate hydrate hydrate! as the discs are 86% water when fully hydrated, need minerals also as they help retain the hydration inside the disc
