While I lived in the Middle East, the automatic air-conditioners were a problem during afternoon rest in the Ramadan period. I was slumbering on the bed and the AC duct just above me opened up, and upon waking, my back had seized. Due to work commitments I disregarded the problem that should have been taken care of immediately, so the doctor said. I could do no upper body movement, and was hospitalized. The surgeon, on a visit, said I had two choices, one to operate, and the other to cure myself. I chose the second. Went to a sports shop and bought an extendable bar to put high up in a door entrance. Once fixed, I hung with my hands firmly holding the bar, lifted my knees gently a few times, and I felt a click in the spine. I could stand up straight after that. Now, some 40 years later I still do the exercise 15 times every morning, after a hot shower. At my age of 85 years, no one believes my age. I do 5 or more other exercises after that.
This video is helpful not only for elderly people, but also for anyone who works at a desk all day. I have to show it to my brother. Thank you very much.
I am 72 and lately I have been feeling so stiff from my back to left hip. (the birth of my 2nd son gave my spine a curve) I did these exercises yesterday and could not believe how fast the effects showed up the next morning! I cannot thank you enough for this video and helping me get back to feeling normal!!!
Thank you for this, as someone who has been 4ft 10” all my adult life, , I was so shocked to have lost an inch by 65. I stretch a lot, just in my everyday life, reaching for things etc and can still put my palms on the floor when I bend over with straight legs, but I have felt my shoulders rounding, so I am definitely going to try those exercises and the neck ones too.
My father, while physically active, lost five inches (12cm) as he aged. Am hoping to avoid or reduce that as I grow older. Videos like this are immensely helpful and inspiring, for which my profound thanks.
Hi Will, I thought forward flexion wasn't recommended for those with low bone density (osteoporosis)? I ❤ doing roll downs against the wall, very similar to your chair rolls. But haven't since finding out I have a very low BMD score (T score minus 3.3) What's the latest research on best exercises for osteoporosis? Would love to see you do some videos on that topic. Thanks
I love you Will. Great videos. However, I just want to mention flexion exercise is definitely a ‘no no’ for people with severe osteoporosis. Chest Opener is a good one, also great is the spinal lengthening . Band pulling great exercise. All good exercises for me, however I will be avoiding the first one. Thanks Will.
I will be implementing these exercise daily along with Chair yoga,.I have more than one orthopaedic issue with my spine, and 5 months ago i suddenly felt short and felt that i have lost flexibility in my spine. As its to late for me and feel shorter, i will do this so that i wont suffer any more shortages. Chair yoga is great for strengthening flowed up with physiotherapy exercises. Another great video Thankyou we all apricate your advice
I recently found out I lost 2 3/4 inches off my height unknowingly. I’ve never seen exercises to reverse this trend. So these exercises have to become a daily routine throughout the day. Thank you.
Hi Will, just following all your videos for a little while, you have been giving many best exercises for the posture that we should repeat many times through out the day what I am not good at. Will it be possible for you to propose us 2 routines, one in morning, one early evening, with you best 15 to 20 minutes exercises? That will be very appraciated. And with time we will be able to add some or to replace some. Thanks very much. I appreciate every monent spent with you. Alain from Montréal Canada.
Inspirational Guy !!! 😇🙏🏼❤ Will , always so much to learn from your well presented videos with clear instructions and caring attitude towards the elderly folks like myself ...an X - Health Care Professional ...A " " BIG THANK YOU " for all the very much appreciated demos ...which I try to "digest " and put into practice as practicable and whenever I can to alleviate the aching joints of OSTEOARTHRITIS of which I'm a victim ! "A VERY BIG THANK YOU " One again..." for providing this platform to enhance the scope of further learning " 😇🙏🏼❤
I'm so pleased my videos have been helpful, that's fantastic to hear - I'm pleased you've found my advice practical and easy to implement and I'm thankful I have the platform to be able to reach people who I can help!
What about 1. Having a chin-up bar in your door frame and bending knees to increase your weight as you hang from the bar. This seems to stretch the spine. 2. Using an inversion table, even at 30 degrees, thereby stretching the neck and spine, putting both in a more straight position, and slightly lengthening both?
Thanks, Will. I’ve lost one inch (age 76) and will do these exercises to keep from losing more. I’m also doing chair yoga which incorporates similar movements.
One can do frequent high bar arm hanging throughout the day. It's intuitive, but very hard to get accustomed as a routine. Must invest in portable hardware that can be easily set up in any location for an impromptu session.
You can do the stretching to your backbones lying on bed. 1. Lye face up. 2. Put both your arms over your head, hold on to the bed head board railing, pull and slowly breadth in. (Backside to remain ‘stuck’ to the bed) Hold for a few second and slowly release. Repeat. Notice you are stretching your back muscles & backbones.
Hi Will! I’ve been watching your content for a while now and have incorporated quite a few of your exercises into my daily routine and I’ve even gotten my husband to watch you for tips. Regarding today’s first stretch that you show bending forward on the chair, do I need to worry about compression fracture if I have osteoporosis?Thank you so much for sharing your knowledge and expertise with us!
Remember to feed your bones while you still can and when one loses weight it is removed from one's face 1st! Works for me, have a nice week everyone 🙋 Easter 🐣 Monday's in a week!
Actually, people are different when it comes to where they gain the most weight; but, on average, the face and neck don't retain as much fat as other areas of the body. So, when losing weight, assuming the weight comes off at the same rate on all areas of the body, the fat will look as though it's coming off at a faster rate on the face and neck, when in actuality, there's just less to lose in those areas.
Thanks, Will! I’ve watched you off and on over the past few months and really enjoy watching you. Is it normal for my back to be making all sorts of cracking sounds as I do these exercises?
If you're back's doing is doing that than it's probably normal for you your situation, I guess it'll do less of that as it strengthens. Whenever I do against the wall, slide down squats, which aren't daily the muscles at the top of my thighs to my knees sound like they're cracking also, rough cascading down sensations, my physio therapist just shrugged when I mentioned it, situation has tapered off, smoother and less noisy, good luck!
I have just seen this video but I saw another video of yours a little while ago which I have started to practice some of the exercises in that video. I noticed I had lost a little bit in height a couple of years ago. I have been doing a similar stretching exercise to the one sitting on the chair and stretching beyond your feet. That is sitting on the floor, and stretching forward. I have also changed the way I walk. I keep my back straight and eyes ahead and not looking on the floor. As a result my height is getting back to normal. One thing I noticed my neck aches a bit at the back, because I am changing the way I hold my head. I think this is a normal reaction to the head being straightened up instead of bending the head down when walking. Concerning seeing a doctor about it, I know what they would say, stop doing it, if you can ever get an appointment to see one
Another great video from will, I would love to see a video on exercises to prevent osteoarthritis and arthritis. Its great to see videos where he recommends certain exercise to avoid.
Exercise and good daily nutrition are very important. If possible, swimming is excellent to keep bones healthy. I swim 5/7 doing lap at least 20 laps each time, half hour at least
Hi Will. I appreciate your very helpful videos. I purchased your book! Great job! When I do the chin tuck exercise, sitting straight up, I get a dull pain, almost like a tightening in my left shoulder - front and low part of shoulder. Any idea why? I’ll search your videos.
Hi. Thank you for your videos. They are great!!!The videos would be perfect if you could shorten the time and make videos of four five minutes instead of 14 minutes. Most of them are a bit too long. Thanks again. Avi
I feel I’ve lost height as I’m now crossed 70. I do stretch exercises on my Pilates machine several times a week. It gives me a better posture and feel taller as I’ve lost all the excess weight. Is Pilates good for my age group? I’m metabolically completely healthy and not on medication. Not sure what else I can do. Thank you for this great video.
Hi Will, I have watched and benefitted from many of your videos, and your book. However, I have a few niggles that I can't work out how to improve, and decided to see a physiotherapist. It is easy to find lists of practices near me (Cambridge), but how can I tell if they are appropriate and properly qualified. Any tips would be greatly appreciated.
Vertigo most often from upper cervical area of neck. Good chiropractic, or massage, and heating pad in area with gentle neck stretching often helps. It sure helps me. ❤
Dear Will, as a French lady, I will talk in centimetres. My height as a young adult was 1,68 cm. Now at 75 years old I am 1,60. Therefore I have lost 8 cm...That's a lot..I think it is a bit late for me to reverse...Maybe stop....What do you think? Anyway I will add some of your exercises in my routine.. I will see.... Thanks a lot as usual. Love from Nicole.🌺🌺🌺🌺
Some is definitely better than none. A minute or two here and there, on and off at work, before and after work achieves wonders. Just do one at a time rather than all at once if you’re that busy. Short and frequently fits for anyone.
Thank you! I am a 64 year old woman in the US. I used to be 5’11 and am currently hovering around 5’10”. I do overnight backpacking trips that can be as long as a month or so and the weight of my pack can range from 20 - 35 lbs. Can this cause compression in my spine? By the way, I do exercises similar to these during the breaks I’ll take throughout the day and they feel wonderful.
Thanks for your guidance. I have discovered that my arms have also shortened. Seems funny but I do feel it when I reach out for something or while doing my exercises I can't move my arms over my head, for example as I used to do before. Could you help me, please!
Overjoyed by my height journey! 🎉 Just turned 31 and grew 5.8 cm taller with the assistance of #heightryzer supplement and your fantastic advice! Unstoppable vibes! 💥❤
I do not think that there is any exercise that can avoid you from shrinking. I have ecercised all my life, am 70 now and lost 3 cms im spite of everything.

Sup man. I'm 27 and was wondering what age height loss occurs. Do you know? I've seen a lot of studies saying it's age 25-30. I haven't noticed any height loss on myself. The only thing i've noticed is it takes longer for me to put on muscle now.
Will Harlow is the BEST PT on Social Media. I wish I lived near his office.

Absolutely! Desk working can really have its drawbacks so its important we're taking care of ourselves to protect us through that time!
I am 72 and lately I have been feeling so stiff from my back to left hip. You are a natural teacher Will. I hope that in addition to your Physio work, you teach a class or two per semester in a physio degree.
I don't teach currently, but I will definitely consider it for the future!

Excellent! i watched you go through the stretches and then did them with you. I absolutely feel the difference right away. Thanks so much!
That's great to hear, so pleased they were helpful!
Thank you, Will Harlow for cartering for us "over-fifties". I am 63 years old & from Borneo Island. I learn much from your video.

Easy and slow. Nice exercises that really work. These are perfect for my lazy days that I let myself indulge in occasionally.
Pleased to hear they work for you - it's good to have some exercises in your repertoire for slower days!
With the third exercise - pressing your tongue on the upper part of the mouth (Mewing) can lead you to a better posture in the exercise.

Try heat in area a couple of times a day. And get an occasional message too
Yes you’re using muscles differently and they can get tight and sore.
@@maryangellwalsh Mary thanks for the advice. Enjoy you Easter holiday
Thank you ! We needed this!

Hi Will thank you again. Have you checked out Helen Hall and head position. Brilliant your clip now reminded me of Helen

Your videos are very useful. Can you also create a video to strengthen feet and ankle for seniors. This is to avoid pain and injury while walking etc.
Hi there - thank you for your recommendation, I have added it to my list of future video topics!
I love the videos. Why don't you do online 30 mns class live.
Oh, wow. Just turned the likes from 999 to 1k 😂 all I wanted to do is just to leave a comment to help your channel. Love your content!
Thnx for such a useful video 🎉
My pleasure 😊
Hi Will, I have watched and benefitted from many of your videos, and your book. However, I have a few niggles that I can't work out how to improve, and decided to see a physiotherapist.
It is easy to find lists of practices near me (Cambridge), but how can I tell if they are appropriate and properly qualified. Any tips would be greatly appreciated.
Thank you. I have learned a lot.
I will do anything to lower my BMI. I've mentioned to my doctor that I have to get taller.
I'm glad I started off so tall before I started losing height. I think I've lost 2 inches. My tallest was 5' 10", I guess I'm 5' 8" now.
Thank Will, I needed this, do you have any exercises to stop vertigo I get this often. ❤
Vertigo most often from upper cervical area of neck. Good chiropractic, or massage, and heating pad in area with gentle neck stretching often helps.
It sure helps me. ❤
Good exercises😊
Are the exercises for posture "adding height" in your book? I really enjoy your videos.

Thank you very much will try
Thank you, Mr. Will, thank you.
Thanks a lot
Thanks!
You're welcome :)
Just what I need lost 5" thank you Will
I love your videos - thank you! But I work full-time and can't do these 3-4 times a day. Is some better than none or not really?
Some is definitely better than none. A minute or two here and there, on and off at work, before and after work achieves wonders.
Just do one at a time rather than all at once if you’re that busy. Short and frequently fits for anyone.
the first exercise .... so cant I do some deadlifts for that ?
These all look great. Just wondering how to do the last exercise if you're a female because that nipple press looks like it'll hurt.
Thank you Sir ❤
Most welcome!
Yes I noticed that !
Do you have a link to this supplement? Can't find it -
what a bold statement, just 6 days after this video was published... may you could have wait a bite more to make it more credible.
Yoga!
terrific stretches! This helps clear ears too!
The 3rd one is difficult for me ,but my C spine is always tender,if you can suggest some alternative
Very helpful
I’m also not sure about forward flexion as I have osteoporosis. Is it safe to do?
Wonderful
Thank you!
Wonderful 😊
You're the best
I do not think that there is any exercise that can avoid you from shrinking. I have ecercised all my life, am 70 now and lost 3 cms im spite of everything.
Will these exercises harm or help if I've had back surgery and I have rods and screws in my back. During my lifetime, I've lost 7 inches in height. I'm heading toward 80, so I think I'm a lost cause. Thank you. 🙂🙃🙂
How often should you replace exercise bands? I've hit myself in the face with my hand from a breaking band an know I'm a little leary of using them.
Muito bom!
Is this safe for my osteoporosis in the spine?
Looks great. 🤪
I hope so!
Thank you for the good news.😂I do feel I tend to see myself shorter.4:58 am
