Good on Yamaha for not doing that pay to play sales tactic that the Europeans are doing with their bikes. Pay extra just to activate QS, cruise control, ride modes, etc.
I just traded in my 2017 FZ 09 for a new 2024 MT09 sp. Comments: I finally figured out how to start the bike every time using the keyless setup :-) My favorite improvement is the throttle smoothness. They finally figured it out! One thing I miss is the sixth gear "turbo whine". It's still there, but either due to mechanical changes Yamaha made or the sound baffles, it is much less noticeable. I'm still getting use to the change in seating/ergonomics. I'm sure I'll adapt but having problems shifting as smoothly due to position changes. The quick shifter is great although I have 50+ years of using a clutch lever so it will take some getting used to it. The engine is still great and I do think the bike feels more stable although early to tell. I may be wrong, but compared to the FZ I think there is a very slight vibration feel in the clutch lever and my feet. Nothing seen with the mirrors. Finding Neutral with the old bike was easy and found it every time. This one just isn't quite as perfect and sometimes the indicator goes to 2nd for a fraction of a second before "N". Don't think it actually goes into second. Could just need a slight adjustment. Had a great time with the bike today.
This bike sounds amazing when you're the rider. The sounds it makes are like a symphony of futuristic vehicle sound effects from a movie. The oscillating whirr when you're just cruising along at 30mph in 3rd, the hiss and whine when you're engine breaking at higher gears/speed coming from the vents, and the mechanical pop when you slam it in to 2nd and 3rd at 8k+ RPM with the quick shifter. It's glorious.
I agree - just went on a test ride yesterday. Also, I much liked the seating position which is less aggressive than anticipated (among other details) 🔥💯🏁
Best looking MT09 yet! The lines and angles on the "head" flow into the tank so well. The 3rd gen had an biological alien merged with transformer vibe which was cool but the head was too high on the forks. The design style worked better on the MT07. But this one has a mecha katana look and it is amazing!
Picked up my 24 mt09 almost a month ago and I absolutely love it. The thing is a torque monster. 2nd gear is weird in the way that it feels slow until 50 or so mph and then takes off with all the torque, pop it in to 3rd gear at Any rpm and it just rips
I just finished the break in on mine and man it rips once you actually open it up. I really wish second didn't feel that way, though. Otherwise, it's an amazing bike. The sound of quick shifting at 8k+ RPM from 1st to 2nd and 2nd to 3rd is orgasmic, I can't wait till I get an exhaust on it. It's my favourite bike I've ever ridden by far.
Thanks for review man. I enjoyed your review it was more in depth and showed more than any other video on this BEAUTIFUL MT-09. My deposit is already in and im SUPER stoked and waiting for that phone call saying it has arrived at my Houston Yamaha dealer. Thanks again and great review, look forward to seeing the TST accessories video soon. RIDE SAFE AND STAY HAPPY. DUCES.
Had a 2016 fz09 and loved it to death, got a 2023 SP after a couple of years on that bike. Actually sold it and planning on getting this newer gen. Currently just have my little spunky fz07 track bike that’s been entertaining me in the meantime haha
I love this video. You've done a very good job on making a detailed in depth review. And you're very calm and blessed with a voice that really keeps listeners engaged. I'll be getting my bike tomorrow and I've really enjoyed your video to hype me up even more 🙂.
Glad y’all made a video on this bike because I’ve been watching everyone I could find. I’m looking to get the SP of this bike so I’m looking forward to see everything you’ll sale for it. Keep it up!
I would love to see a half faring for this! A nice windscreen and top of engine cover. I know a lot of people say they would get it. Maybe the R9 fairing will fit with slight modifications. I would get the R9 but my back injury prevents that style of riding.
Great review and I really like the bike, my only hang up is I feel like those headlights are lacking in the visibility for other vehicles standpoint. Maybe it’s just how it comes across on video though
If I was waiting for a new MT09SP, I'd also take a look at a Street Triple 765 RS. Very similar, and you can actually find a new one at a dealer for sale.
Ive been waiting super impatiently for that tail tidy kit to come available and I can see one right there 👀 i was told by customer service its late May or very early June availability - is this still the case? Been holding out for your kit!

It is but it’s currently for sale. It was a fun build but business got really busy for us and we couldn’t allocate the time or resources at that time to finish it.

I own an MT - 07 Pure Black from 2022 and love it - I am sad to see this new generation for MT09 2024 have only one color option and that wierd front lights dont like it at all,and other thing that YAMAHA did not been honest is about the crazy chain vibrations that affect the driving-even its lubircated and fine tuned chain still get way to much noise and vibrations
Orlando Yamaha kawasaki sold me a 2023 mt07 brand new with bad rear wheel bearings and said nothing was wrong with. Said all that noise was normal. Then when they adjusted my chain they over cranked the hell out of it. 😂👍
No one talks about the tank re-design allowing for a much better turning radius?? Beat's the new 990 duke on price and std tech includem no contest. I'm guessing performance isn't too far behind the new Duke as well. In fact, probably have the 990 rider looking at you in his mirrors and asking himself, "who dat", lol.
I wonder if that 3rd gen QC/AB can be added onto the 2nd gen QC/AB from a 2023 MT-09 SP for example. And I would like to see the headlight difference if they are any brighter or better than previous gen MT’s.
Being that the QC is an OEM Yamaha part, I'm assuming there's a very good chance it will work with no issues but without actually testing it, it's nearly impossible to verify. As for the headlight, I'm guessing this one is slightly brighter but maybe we can get a 3rd gen in-house to do some testing. 🤔
I think both are great options. The 8S is a solid platform and not too much more powerful than the Z400 but enough of an upgrade to have fun. It would really just depend on budget.
After watching many many videos describing various motorcycles I finally decided that the MT-09 is the one that had the most features that I wanted. Then, I went to a dealer to see one in person and I was shocked. It was so tiny. I couldn't believe just how small it was. It was as if it was made for a 13 year old. It's too bad they don't make a man-sized version of it.
That’s super lame. New year bike drops more than half into the year. Yikes. The MT gen 4 FB group shared a video of a Thai dealer than seems to be the first to have got one out on the showroom floor for sale.
nice 3rd person footage. I am so tired of motorcycle reviewers just using shitty pov go pro footage riding on the road while reading a spec sheet, I actually wanna see the bike
Anyone ride theirs at night yet? I bought it for my work commute. The headlight is my biggest complaint about this bike. They shouldn't put a straight line cut off like new car lights. When in a turn you lose 80% of sight through the turn Instantly as there is no upward projection. One of the biggest of many reasons I'm selling mine at the end of the season. Great bike for city riding, I guess, but other than that.. meh.
Man. I know this is a 5 month comment but you just blew my mind. I never made the connection that a projector headlight on a motorcycle would definitely leave you in the dark in a lean. And running the high beam all the time is lame
I get it you need to create content... but the headlight is worse than gen 3, so is the tank and seat, the display is just weird with the giant black boarders, but most importantly the rider position... if I wanted my back and wrists to hurt I would have kept my Aprilia RSVR.
All that stuff is subjective and for me, in my opinion, I really do think all of those things are an upgrade. The riding position seems more natural and I think it’s a perfect middle ground as it’s not nearly as aggressive as a true sportsbike. I also like the dual seat as opposed to one giant one. Having the seat lock on the passenger seat is also a plus for me while also not requiring tools to remove the main rider seat.
I have a question bro. how did you shorten that rear turn signal and license plate light up to near the tail light ? that is neat. is the license plate light still there also ? thanks in advance for your feefback.

The second gear lag will be fixed with a tune. My 21 SP had the same issue and after a tune 2nd hits just as hard as the other gears.
Probably Euro tune on it chocking the bike.
