Repulsion Gel #2

- Aperture's second attempt at a dietetic pudding substitute resulted in Repulsion Gel, a much sweeter, slightly less non-toxic form of fiberglass insulation that caused subsequently-ingested food items to bounce off the lining of the dieter's distended stomach and out his or her mouth.
For various reasons, this also was pulled from the shelves.
I imagine at the end the guy playing thought "Oh wait, we forgot to make the door open...oh well, I'll just walk toward it anyway"
Notice how the door didnt open even when the player was so close...
Because it's a demo.
SMGMario So?
What so .... ._.
Parkurist I don’t think saying “so?” Is a funny joke
The glass is bullet proof, but if a turret bounces against it, it breaks?
No. At 58 seconds you can see that the glass got hit.
It wasn't bullet-proof. The bullets got lodged in the glass.
Nontheless weird how easy it broke when the turret hit it directly. On the other side, nothing happening in the source engine surprises me anymore.
darealshinji Turret has a lot more mass than a bullet.
David Bluhm
Calm down dude, this is source engine. Nothing makes sense in source.
the turret that flies toward you screaming "AAAAAAAAHHHHHHH!" It's just so cute and funny XD
I love that part! XD

actually, the robot hurt noise gets played when the person playing takes turret damage
I Just realized that is a old version of "Weathley Laboratory"

We wait patiently
@@userPrehistoricman It uses the same style as Wheatley i.e. Bottomless pits, multiple chambers smashed together, a lot of behind the scenes areas clearly visible.
The first room ls like the beginning of test 17 (?) in chapter 8, the one where you can see P-body briefly
Also the part where you drop the gel on the turrets.
“Oh, in case you got covered in that Repulsion Gel, here's some advice the lab boys gave me: Do NOT get covered in the Repulsion Gel.”
he could have just portaled over their and not used the gel
You know that you can only place portals in the white surface, right?
Ye i play portel. And there is white over there
it's blocked by an emancipation grid
EDIT: look closely
the point of the video is to use the repulsion gel
Technoloking no there actually isn't. if thee was how could he shoot the portal to get the gel out?? lol
These maps seem a lot more clever then the ones that ended up in the finished game,..
The map could have been completed easier than that.
Maybe the Turret bounced against it very fast.
It probably is very stable and heavy too.
They were split up and made into separate chambers or parts of other chambers
r4ptur3B ikr
A lot of these segments were used as inspiration for a lot of the sections in the final chapter as you go to wheatley's lair. But beyond that, from a level building perspective, they put a lot more effort in to these. Did you see how they actually put animated wires attached to the panels as they come out to form the surfaces that Chell bounces on? Also, they don't make use of the silhouette models that they do in the final game. In the levels that have holes in the chambers revealing outside into the factories, they frequently use a model that is just a silhouette of lots of mechanical pieces to make the level seem more busy than it actually is. In this one, they just actually made it busy. They also included breakable glass, which is something they very rarely use.
The turret that just goes flying into the acid at 1:24 gets me every time
also the fact he doesn't even acknowledge it and keeps walking 😂
The graphics look better in this, the reflections, the portal animations/graphics
Just put the graphics settings at the highest (don't forget to check advanced graphics settings)
Does PS3 have graphics settings? I played yesterday, but I never checked settings

@@smortboi2374 why
@@smortboi2374 It's been all downhill, up until this point in my life.
Fun thing is Chell can always get covered in it and nothing happens.. I wonder if Aperture later changed the components of the gel in order to make it... Dangerously unlethal? Haha
@@pamisa-chan317 The Repulsion Gel (Patent Pending) was developed in the early testing days of Aperture 50's - 60's. Assuming the early trials of the gel were dangerous, they most definitely changed the components to something less toxic. Or Chell is simply immune from the gel.
I always loved the sound effect they made for that bounce at 0:53. It's so good.
It’s been 10 years and this still gets recommended
10 years later, still looks absolutely dope.
Like seriously, if this game was coming out this year, I'd super excited for it and pre-order the gold/premium edition.

What I love about Valve: These videos, even after advertising and doing a great job of spreading the word of Portal 2, gives you helpful hints in completing the actual game.
breakable glass.. another thing that wasn't in the game.
Actually there was in several places, just not in a test chamber. The glass in the vid looks like a func_breakable and brushes, unlike the glass models they use for portal 2.
i know this was from 3 years ago... but there was breakable glass in the cave johnson levels, you needed to put the repulsion gel into a chamber that had a test cube, the test cube bounced around to destroy a glass container, thus breakable glass in the game.
@@shuttershot6564 There was also breakable glass at the start too.
why does the beta look better
It's two fold: Firstly, because the final game's chambers were made by lots of different people, so it's full of inconsistent building patterns, which would lead me to believe these beta ones were just made by a more skilled employee than the ones hired to build the final level designs, and secondly, because they used a lot less resources in the final build of the game, most likely to make sure that it would work even on lower end pc's, where as in the beta, they didn't have to worry about how many resources they used, because they beta chambers would never be commercially available.
Well, they made a game with awesome graphics that can working nicely even on my 2011 laptop. Crazy.
@Tobyret didn’t portal 2 come out on 2011. Of course it had to run in 2011 laptops
Am i the only one that feels bad about the turrets?
I always try to not destroy them or kill them, i move them so they dont shoot me

Elder scrolls six will be better
I like this lighting engine way more than the one in the final game. And I've been playing on maximum settings for years!
Thanks Valve, this one looked better quality than the final game
0:36 The gel physics in this concept are way better than in the final game.
They had to compromise for framerate and console reasons.
And the sounds too
Honestly, I think the part I'm most excited about is screaming turrets.

I wonder what the play testers thought of that.
It's just fun to go bouncing around!
But the point of this video is to test the gel
So THAT'S where that one screenshot on the back of the case is from!

Hello Valve.. since Portal 2 is already relased i would want to ask you if its possible .. if you could relase the portal 2 e3 beta .. because i love it.. and probably you wont answer.. but i.. just asked.
I agree… do it Valve!
The breaking glass is amazing.
while many people commented that this level didn't make it into the game, parts of it sure did. I don't quite remember the exact level, but it was in Wheatley's level during the end. we had to use the tunnel thingy backwards and throw it on the robots behind the glass. that was the hardest puzzle in portal 2 if u ask me.
0:21 you dont need the replution gel there is a portal surface there
Remember when Valve made games? Me neither.

We haven't entirely nailed down what element it is yet, but I'll tell you this, it's a lively one, and it does _NOT_ like the human skeleton.
I don't know what it is, but I liked the look of the tests a lot more in the teasers than the finished game.
awww blue bouncing turret looks so cute
How does it feel to finally get a reply to your comment made 9 years ago?
1:36 you've heard of wall running, now we introduce... wall bouncing!
Why was this recommended to me in 2020?
(Also, the glass was bullet proof but a turret rammed into it and it smashed - and the last part of the test was completely unnecessary, there was a portal surface at the end of the death goo, and one on the side you start on... which means there is no need for the gel)
Test subjects may be shot a few times but they’ll be fine 0:55
Anyone just got recommended this 10 years later?
For some strange reason, the turrets flying around made me laugh XP
How does it feel to finally get a reply to your comment made 8 years ago?
@@smortboi2374 Considering it's a Portal video, doesn't feel that weird
Portal is timeless
So first there's unused levels, and then you realise that the gel is less "thick" in the final game. I think this version looked better.
this got me thinking about switching to geico fr
Does anyone know that @reepblue actually predicted Portal 2 correctly? He predicted the Conversion Gel!
Didn’t you notice that in the Portal Level Creator/Editor workshop, you can’t place the gel dispenser on the side of a wall.
There is too much effort put in this map, for it to be only used in this video. Am I right?
Wah such good times
I want valve to sell this as pudding.
Look, if they did implent the same levels they shown in the demos, everyone would know how to solve them, and that would be meh.
I only found 1 level that was basically the same as it was in it's trailer, but with different design: the excursion funnel.
Actually, my only problem was with portal 2 that it was too easy. But the story and basically the whole game compensated it.
@basil4president Because it's a demonstration level. All the elements of this level are spread out through the game. The wall jumping, the turret splattering, the excursion funnel fling, the "Behind the scenes" theme... If a level did all these things at once, there wouldn't be anything exciting left to put in the other levels.
@LordofSmite yes there is. Thats the only way to get across the water. The only places you can put the portals are way he put it. Every other surface on that side was made of portal-free material. And if you tried to portal into one of the portals he made, you would still fall into the water (or death-sludge, whatever it was).
I wish they'd kept the facility more... flexible. Like in the first game, or this video. Panels moving as you progress, hinting at what you're supposed to do next- makes it feel less like you're a mouse thrown in a box with no regard and no certainty that you're being watched. Because the retail version feels like you're left to your own devices and you can play around- and sure it's pretty fun, but it doesn't sell the idea of this gigantic and powerful facility you're inside of as well. When panels are constantly shifting there's a sense of dread- just hearing them suddenly move is jarring
@derfaal your on youtube that means they won't be able to see your test out subject comment
If you don't want the boink sound fine, but when a turrets comes bouncing like a science ninja at you...
well lets say your going to end up with blue and red blood
Cave Johnson, we're done here
Who fucking cares if these levels weren't included? EVERYBODY who played portal 2 knew of these levels, meaning EVERYBODY knew how to sovle them. Putting these levels in would have made the game less enjoyable!
I'm going to be too STUPID for Portal 2...
they need to add this to the game intro
"If you cannot solve any puzzles that include numbers, portals and/or goo, you might as well give this game to someone who can"
lol guys you can make portals on white ground as you know :D
and please look at 1:36 you put a portal at the white ground where you stay and a other portal at the wall next to the door for the next stage :D lololol
@AdmiralMemo And there are plenty of tubes in the game. They're everywhere, and I'm sure there was at least one you went over. I believe there were a couple near the start of The Fall.
@Bogermanproductions Doubtful. I'd bet that the glass wouldn't break even if it was shot a thousand times, but it would break if a turret smashed it in game. That's just how it is.
@ikiLr I think this was designed as a demonstration of all you could do with the repulsion gel, rather than an actual level that would be featured in the game ;-)
Man I can’t wait for Portal 2 to release
Now wait a sec
@jakeycool8899 You felt the need to call me out on being wrong in an exception for whatever reason, and i doubt that was just because you felt like it.

Wait? So bullets can't breaking the glass at 0:56
But flinging a turret towards the glass breaks it?
That doesn't really make alot of sense. :)
@RustyBulletHole2 "slightly less non-toxic" lol pure gold. I'm sure whoever writes for Valve used to write fine print for credit card contracts.
So when can we expect Portal 3?
looking back, these trailers almost feel like precursors to those godawful mobile puzzle game ads
except the person doing them isn't portrayed as an absolute buffoon
I've been watching these waiting for portal 2 to download, and it's finally done.
idk if you are still on yt, but what was your internet speed back then
This game is rated E10....A 10 year old would ask there dad to help them on this part....I think this game should be rated T.
This particular level was probably created specifically to showcase these gameplay elements. If you pay attention, you can see that this test chamber is exceedingly easy to get through without using any of the tools shown here. However, many of the concepts demonstrated here are used in other places in the game. I think it's good this isn't in the game, or people who've seen the video would already know precisely how to solve it, and that's not fun.
Of course they don't put this in the game, or everybody who has already seen it would know the solution right away!
@Arkalius80 my first thought too but take a look at the area you can portal too, its in front of the glass in view of the turrets, you would never make it out alive... :) Also looks like if you get more velocity you can make it into that room you see when they fly to the other side. Seems like puzzles might have more than 1 solution.
Seems to me you could have simply portaled from the first area to the second... there didn't seem to be anything preventing it. Looks like all of that fun stuff in the first area was just flourish... but it was still cool. Maybe this particular area will be different in the final game and you won't be able to just portal across.
So your telling me even though the repoltion gel was made when aperture made the portal gun where you have to wear it like a back pack, is still putting their inventions everywhere when glados is in control?
@MrSwiket Because then Chell wouldn't be able to show how playing Mario games finally paid off - PORTAL WALL KICK!
@WoWkemon90 I'm pretty sure every game has at least one fault. I love Portal 2 to death, but that doesn't mean I don't see any faults in it. Loving something doesn't mean you don't acknowledge its faults, it means you accept its faults and love it despite them.
I love the tune that plays with the Apperture Science logo at the beginning.
This and the Propulsion Gel trailers blew me the fuck away!
Gabe, start working on Episode 3 right after the release of Portal 2, I'M BEGGING YOU, don't wait until 2100 to start working on it.
is it just me or is the gel a bit more satisfying and realistic in the early versions
Tip on how to remember what portal to shoot for a gel; to receive the gel, shoot the opposite colour portal to the gel. Then, shoot the same colour portal as the gel to get the gel. I just use blue to receive and orange to go for Conversion Gel though.
@IdoF47
Or it's actually scripted to break if it's hit by a turret, kind of like how in Half Life 2 Episode 2, the Advisor you come across in the barn picks up a barrel, crushes it and flings it away, despite props not being able to bend, or break otherwise
@kkaayynniinnee I see now that second sentence doesn't really make sense. What I was trying to say was that come time to do some mod development, the physics of the gel (and other improvements) is going to open up so many possibilities - its exciting.
So if the gel can let you jump on surfaces, then can’t you jump on the gel
AHHHHH can't wait for DLCs!!!!!!
And... (un)fortunately, there's no DLCs.
Am I the only one here that thinks the Portal/Portal2 Games would make excellent ciricullum in Physics Classes?
Putting the games on PC's, not running the students through the mazes.
....on second thought....XD
@gyro2death Turrets take a couple seconds to take aim, so you could probably get behind the glass in time. Anyway, the design of this level seems contrived to showcase these elements rather than as a level that's in the game.
Hey can we have an update with the graphics from these trailers? It's not an issue about power anymore it's 2020.
Truly repulsive.
@SalemSenkane
Didn't you read the Aperture posters? Or the wall of text in the beginning in the first repulsion gel trailer? It was originally an attempt at some dietary pudding or something.
@DissorderedArray Nah, that would ruin the whole Portal playstyle. Use your BRAINS not your BRAWNS. And where would GLaDOS get zombies? Btw that's why a lot of other games feel stereotype and boring.
If you all want this map in the game, feel free to make it in the map creator that's coming out "soon".
