Hi all - Trev here! If you are new to wild camping on Dartmoor or any where for that matter - then please enjoy the outdoors but more importantly RESPECT THE OUTDOORS by following the LEAVE NO TRACE policy. Fires are prohibited, as are disposable BBQ's. Take your litter home with you and do not chase the animals. Thanks guys and girls!
Been watching your videos for some time now building up to doing this myself and last night myself and my partner finally did it....first wild camp. Four winds car park, TV mast, down to the quarries and camped at the top of King Tor facing west toward Merrivale. What a sunset! Thank you!!
I did Cox Tor in June, it was 30 degrees Centigrade, only one camping there, surprisingly, fantastic sunrise and sunset, very peaceful and fantastic views.
Hi Trev. Love your videos..... always binge-ing on them :-) Off the back of this one we tried our first ever wildcamping 2 weeks ago. It was brilliant. We were very lucky with the weather. We camped at Great Staple Tor first night and King's Tor the second night (Foggintor Quarry was too busy - cows and people!). It was so much fun and we will definitely be doing more of it in the future. Many thanks for the inspiration and all the great advice. All the best.
Thank Trev. Re watched this video. I walked from.the Whitchurch common car park. To Cox tor. Middle staple tor. Great staple tor and then roos tor . Then back to middle staple tor then back to the car . In the mist during the day. Such a good Friday for me . All because of your channel. Thank dude .
First wild camping last night at Great Mis Tor! Thank you for the recommendations. It’s stunning. Was hammering rain most of the night, but glorious morning. Wandering all day today in usual British weather. Mostly rain and a bit of sun. Yet to make my mind where pitching for the night.
Thank you for this! My young son’s and I tried our first wild camp after watching this video!! We loved it. We live the other side of Penzance so are used to the coast path - this is such a new and exciting change! Love your videos
Lustleigh Cleave, up towards Ravens Tor and Hunters Tor. Probably one of my favourite places in the country, and surely some decent camp options. Also Dewerstone but not sure that’s in the permitted area…
Trev, thanks for this helpful video. Came down to Dartmoor yesterday, spent last night on Great Mis Tor and tonight on Lydford Tor. One more night to go! Superb area really enjoying it. 👍
Hey there Trev - thanks for the suggestion to go to Merrivale area👍. Just back from a lovely 10 Tor circuit including an overnight camp at Crazy Well - best hike on Dartmoor yet and some brilliant tors - especially Leather Tor Great work on the films too - keep them coming 👍👍👍
Brilliant Nick - glad that you managed to get out and enjoy Dartmoor- it really is a stunning place and Merrivale is a great area. Thanks for watching! All the best!
Great insightful video (i know), love Foggintor Quarry, that picture of the ruined building halfway through is brilliant, great area to camp, which me and Tim will be ripping it a new one when this has all calmed down, all the bestest, stay safe, Taz
Trev completely agree 👍 this is a great area to start as beginners. Me and my family have started to take our little one (now 7). You can make the hike or camp easy or hard depending on the day (& child's attitude!) Keep up the good work! Love the video!
Yea, that's exactly right, Josh! Plenty to see and do in this area, a great starting point for any newcomers wanting a taste of Dartmoor without too much distance between them and the car. Thanks for watching, Josh!
That’s brilliant thanks Trev, have been anticipating wild camping on Dartmoor all winter - hopefully soon. Have had to be content with 5 nights in my first tarp/bivvy at home in Plymouth. Can’t beat the gentle breeze on your face first thing in the morning. Take care Trev and look forward to more Dartmoor adventures. 👍😀🏕
Incredibly helpful video to those of us who have yet to venture onto Dartmoor. Thanks very much for posting this. Keep safe, keep healthy and keep sane. Cheers. Ken
Thanks for this video, me and my girlfriend went on our first wild camp based on some of your info! There's a food shack open at merrivale now and the pub should be at some point ☺️ We parked originally at pork hill car park and found a load of geocaches to the south and camped there. Next day we explored the tors to the north and merrivale and moved to explore the standing stones and disused tin mine and camped near there. We carried all our gear to test the waters but it was handy knowing we can leave extra water and food in the car. Now need to find a more compact sleeping mat and bag...
Ah that is great to hear, I am glad to have helped and even more pleased that you enjoyed the area. It is ideal situation being so close to the car, and as you say, having many amenities around gives extra options too. Thanks for commenting. All the best.
Love this, and thank you! Agree with you that Merrivale is great for beginners. Also think going out from Belstone along the Taw is a good entry part for newbies too.
Merrivale is a great choice. I've done nav training there and I've trained Gold DofE students there too. I've not camped there myself but my students have. Looking forward to getting back there!

Went to Merrivale with the Mrs z couple of days ago. The question is - how do you find a space to pitch tent that's not covered in pony and sheep shit? We couldn't walk 12 inches in any direction without seeing it. Or do you just clear it away with a stick?

awesome video! Very informative 👍 of all the tor’s you mention in the video, which ones would you say are the quietest for wild camping. As in, the least likely to be camped on. Cheers
