The last couple of times I've camped around Alexander Darwall's house. Last month we even can a group camping with 9 tents all around his property, sadly non of us idiots bothered to bring a drone, I would have been a master shot!
Well, as much as that sounds like a great idea, sadly that sort of thing will probably only give him more fuel to defend against the appeal. For starters, Dartmoor camping should only be small groups, drones are not allowed etc.. all things that he can show the judge which could end up making matters a lot worst. Besides, I couldn't think of a more boring place to camp on Dartmoort than by his estate. Just get to some nice places, enjoy the moor responsibly and help the fight by treating the moor right.
@@SummitOrNothing That's a fair point.
@@SummitOrNothing me and two others are planning a camp shortly - I assume a group of 3 isn’t considered a “large” group?
@@barryburner6440 we usually cap it off at 4 and then try to just spread out a bit
Great selection of camping spots Trev, hope you get plenty more camps in this year.
Awesome video Trev. Definitely going to head to the Okehampton area
Honeybag Tor Trev just over from Chinkerwell 👍🍻
Great video and as usual good planning tips. Nice 1 Trev👍🏕🏕🏕
Great choice, Karen. Haven't camped there myself yet but the pair of them are pretty sweet tors. Thanks for watching!
Such a great video - thanks so much
Cheers Billy. Hope it helps!
Some great ideas for spots - thanks for sharing!
Thanks for sharing your summing up of your experiences Trev 👍🏼
No problem. Seemed a good way to share knowledge, use old footage and make the most of my lack of time to get out and about last year.
Proper useful vid that Trev, thanks.
Cheers Matt. Glad to be of service.
Great list. Looking forward to next spring to camp again.
Cheers Tom. It'll soon come round!
Great video very useful, thanks very much.
You are welcome!
Glad I found this again. I’m off to Okehampton train station from Basingstoke on Saturday to wild camp on Dartmoor. I’ve still not decided where to pitch but I’ll watch this again on the train. Firing times checked. Likely Rowtor, simply because it’s closer to the road and to the station for my return Sunday, although I don’t need to worry about the car. Thanks for this bible of info Trev.
So many places to get out to, I do t think I could pick even 10 great camping spots! Nice video Trev as always!
No, I know what you mean. Think theres actually 11 in this video, so I struggled to keep it to ten too lol
15:48 - ahhhh ~~~ the soul-consuming sheep again ~~~ 😱😱😱
😂😂😂 Coudn't resist it lol
Brilliant videos trev you have earned a sub
Im going to st ives in august and wanted to leave a day early and camp somwhere as a pit stop didnt realise dartmore was so close.
Your videos are very educational cheers mate
Thats great, glad the videos help. Hope you enjoy your own adventures!
Some lovely spots there Trev. Love row tor, sheepstor and Roos Tor, plus most of the other tors on dartmoor tbh 😁👍
Yea, good choices. Still never camped at Roos Tor yet. Always someone over there so end up stopping at Great Staple.
Intersting vid lads ive never camped here but maybe soon
Great vid Trev...
Perfect for new campers to feel their way into things. ⛺️
Shelstone Tor is my favourite (Skin n Bones) 😃😃😃
...thanks for sharing and looking forward to the next one 😎👍
Doe Tor and the journey to it 🤣🤣🤣
Cheers Crispin! Quite enjoyed putting this one together. However, I had recorded the talking head twice (one time the audio didn't work) and the second time that you see in the video, I missed so much information and rushed the end as the rain was just about to kick off...
I do like east mill tor have done all but one of tor you have put on the video and look more do enjoy your video’s thanks 👍
Awesome Steve. Cheers for watching!
Some great tors to sample there Trev. I just done King tor last night in 50 mph winds. 😳 The vango banshee stood up very well . Starting to love that tent
You missed me by a couple of nights then Johnny. Good old Banshee. Hugs the floor well doesn't it?
@@SummitOrNothing it certainly does. If I go out, it's usually in the week when no-one is about
Great vid Trev. You love that Vik 1😁. Can't wait to get out with mine soon, with a bivvy bag of course lol. I've been wild camping for about 7 years now but still love learning from yourself and other UA-camrs👍
I do love the Vik 1 Mark. Such a great little compact tent. Cheers for watching!
thanks Trev as me and the wife have health problems, you have shown us that we can still keep wild camping with the shorter walks
Yea, Tom. There's plenty of great spots at convient distances. Hopw you both manage to get to them! Cheers for watching!
@@SummitOrNothing and before Christmas i hope
Thanx Trev. just wrote down some tors I want to hike to in the future when I visit again. take care buddy..
Awesome! Hope that you enjoy them as much as I do! Cheers!
Lovely video, hope it gets more people out and following the rules. Never considered Row tour but it makes sense if I’m going to be short of time in morning.
Yea, Rowtor is great if you 2ant to get out but havent got a lot of time. I've pitched there a couple of times now. It's ideal!
Nice vid trev I'm hoping to get out next week with a mate so give me some ideas outside of my usual jaunts. I share your love of great links. Such a pin drop place to be in the most and hell of a trig on em.
Glad to have helped. And yep... great links is pretty awesome. Cheers for watching.
Me n Adam are planning a trip down there in a couple of weeks, thanks for the tips!
ATB Cat
Awesome! Have fun!
Some great Tors there Trev! We actually did our first ever wildcamp together down in Dartmoor. Chose Scarey Tor just because it was quite close to the main road, and we were doing a Halloween video so where better 😂
🤣🤣 Yea, great little tor and another not too far. Cheers for watching!
Visited Great Mis Tor for the first time last week. Can’t believe I’ve never been before! Guess I’ve always dismissed it as being too close to a road to for getting the feeling of isolation I like. How wrong I was. Being able to see so far in to the north moor, including Fur Tor, Great Links and the high moor on the eastern slopes of the West Okement Valley, gave a massive sense of remoteness. All this combined with only 20 minutes walk is madness! Great video as always, Trev
Yep, Great Mis is an awesome tor. Plenty of choice of places to pitch too. It's a bit of a stomp up from Roos Tor side though, as Nath and I learnt the hard way.
@@SummitOrNothing I remember watching. ‘Twas a long old slog indeed.
Got a yearning for Dartmoor on the charity walk earlier this year and it's about time I stopped talking about it and just got it done. Thanks for these ideas of where to start.
Haha... yea, you need to get on the moor. Plenty of decent routes from all of these tors. Thanks for watching
Had a great night on Gt Staple Tor back in May. Petfect blue sky and dead calm. Far better than camping in Essex 😁
Ah, it's something else up there mate. Glad you got such great conditions too. Maybe next time Dartmoor will treat you to the other side of her lol. Thanks for watching!
Going down (from South Yorkshire) to see relatives in Torquay South Devon (go twice a year, to take my 86 year old mum). Always have a day to myself to go wild camping. I think it will be Black Tor during the week! So hoping to have a Tor to myself (year right lol). Liked and Subscribed!
Some excellent tips thank you, don’t forget though it’s not all about the tors, there are some other great places to wild camp that have their own charm like along Cherry Brook
Yea, valid point Steve. Cheers for watching.
Not done Great Links yet will make it my next. Got to be Yes Tor for me, you really can see virtually the whole of Devon and if really clear even some Welsh Hills. Great spots to pitch as well.
Yea, Yes Tor is a goodun... have never pitched up there yet though... so another one I have yet to do. Cheers for commenting!
Cheers great vid !
I have recently started to visit Dartmoor , I just want to be away from other and the madness of the moden world .. This is very helpfull.
I have done great miss and also wild camp at Grims pound ..
Awesome robert. It really does give you a break from the ratrace. Glad that you are managing to get out on there! All the best!
Few new ideas for me there Trev. I agree Great Mis Tor is superb, but just across the road is King's Tor. Loads of flat pitches with shelter from all directions, you can also see Foggintor Quarry on the way. I've taken my 3 grand daughters to different tors and rivers, West Okement near Black-a-tor copse is great. I took one to Pew Tor and really struggled to find a flat pitch.
I camped on Kingstor only last week for the first time, unfortunately I was already in the process of editing this by then. Was a great tor but I still think I prefer Great Mis to it, though. Cheers for dropping a comment!
Watching from Sydney Trev. From Dorset original and these videos make me miss home
Cheers Don. You won't miss it at the moment. Cats and dogs mate
@@SummitOrNothing I didn’t know how much I missed the cold wet of Blighty until I was here, the blue mountains are amazing but it’s just not the home, British countryside just has something about it. Keep up the great work your videos are nostalgic
Great video mate.im looking to ride up on my motorbike very soon and I'm looking for some good wild camping do you know if anywhere I can legally take my bike right upto were I want to camp many thanks
Not been dartmoor since the army... cracking place.
Yea, its something special. Cheers for watching, Craig!
@@SummitOrNothing at this point, I'm addicted. Can't wait to get back out.
lovely collection - i might add Cosden (cracking view especially sunrises - crap for water) Fir - lots of choices but a bit of a hike, Higher White Tor (really fine views and quiet - lots to do around there) and possibly one of the woods - Piles being the quietest with lots of ancient sites. Don't know whether you've tried many multi day routes but well worth it, 2 or 3 nights gives a whole new feeling to the scenery you pass through, and the choices are almost endless. anyhow, keep on making the vids, it inspires lazy gits like me to dust off the camping gear
Some great additions there, Richard! Cheers for that! I have visited Higher White Tor, will have to get back out that way for a camp this year. One of my resolutions is to camp at places I havent yet, so great suggestions! I also will try to get around to a 2 or 3 day hike and camp too. Awesome, thanks! All the best!
Glad your favourite is Great Links as I'd agree 100% but as you say you need to get a good pitch & if it's busy that's a challenge! But I don't think there's a bad spot, all have their own identity and variety - the best thing is just being out there
Cheers Chris! Yea, its a goodun alright. But you're quite right, it's all about being out there! Thanks for watching!
Trev, great video mate. What tarp did you use in these video's, looks great!
It is great, the DD Hammocks superlight tarp, there's a link to it in the video description! Packs down to about the size of a pack-a-mack!
perfect! Thanks for showing that oakhampton rowtor place. Looks ideal for me (a beginner) .. do you reckon it's ok to do a hot tent there? especially as a non driver (train)
Awesome vid matey.
I don't know if hot tents would be permitted on Dartmoor because of the high peat content. It may be worth investigating first.
@@SummitOrNothing good point about the peat! Cheers
Hi Trev.
Stayed on Winter Tor last weekend.
Bloody cold, and was covered in ice in the morning.
You stay on that one? It’s pretty low down in comparison with surrounding Tors.
All the best.👍🏾🇬🇧
Thanks boss. I was hoping you would include woodland settings. I’m limited for only hammocks after the stroke.
Yea sorry about that, I dont do a lot if woodland camping (or any). Not a lot of dartmoor woodland in the purple either I think.
@@SummitOrNothing I’ll have a good look. I’m going to be staying local to mid cornwall for the time being.
Hi Trev, great vid as usual 👍👍
Thanks very much for sharing.
Very informative.
I’d be coming from Dorset, so Bovey Tracey and Buckfastleigh area would be ideally a starting point.
I know about the Abbey Way, but don’t fancy 22miles on my first trip😂😂.
Have you done any camps on that side of the moor?
Just had a look at the map, I could go north heading towards Okehampton, probably not much different in time or distance than buckfastleigh.
Also (apologies for all the questions) can you camp on the cairns? Are they archeological? Or haunted 😉
Ever had any trouble leaving your car overnight?
Really looking forward to getting down that way, though probably not the best weather for a first time wildcamp 😂
Thanks again😊
Hi Andy. Thanks for watching. Not done a lot over the buckfastleigh side of the moor to be honest, neither hiking or camping, but Oke area is well worth a visit. Lots to explore there. The cairns and archaeological sites are best not to camp at, as they are historic sites, but you can camp quite ear to a lot of them. Not seen a ghost yet, but I do keep an eye out lol. Hope you mange to get out soon. All the best!
hey, in the summer im considering going with a couple friends for 2 nights, how much water should we bring , and how much should we get from rivers and best way to make it potable
Hi Trev, love your videos, what wild life do you find on the moors?
You dont always see a lot, but there are foxes, deer, hares, snakes etc. And plenty of birds!
Great video buddy. I would love it if you broke the video up into chapters so I could jump through it and back to where you were showing scenes of certain tors. I think the girlfriend and I are going to try for shelstone tor next week some time.
Thanks for all the information about the firing times too. That could’ve been really horrible to find out on the day 😅
Also, where would you suggest parking?
Hi ya Jamie, have just broken that into chapters for you - i didnt do it when the vid first went live as I wanted people to watch through to clock up watch time, but now it makes sense to be able to navigate the video.
Most places have plenty of parking around, but if theres any you want to know further informwation please feel free to ask. Cheers!
@@SummitOrNothing legend. Thank you
@@SummitOrNothing I’ll tell you how it goes. Big shout out to you my friend. This place is awesome.
Hey trev!
How about doing a f**k**g pub Tor( tour) , in Nottingham, U & Nath in the midlands getting pissed in the oldest public house in England ( reputedly) & pitching up on the famous goose fair site “ forest fields “ park & ride “ !
Haha! I'm not a serious drinker these days so pub tor would probably not last long lol. I'd try a few ales and be the first to pass out lol
Trev, I miss ya.
Anyway, I'm taking a group of pals on their first wild camp on dartmoor, probably in okehampton area. March 1st if you're interested.
The three of us are coming in a small day camper, looking at car camping the Friday night and getting a loop and a camp in Saturday and Sunday.
Would rowtor be appropriate to park at for the weekend?
Can't wait to see you back mate.
Rowtor is fine for parking at the weekend, Craig, although you do want to check firing times as it's slap bang in the middle of the danger area!
@@SummitOrNothing will do trev! Thanks mate
No firing all weekend, Okehampton.
Mate, if you wanna hang out with three middle aged bellends that weekend... We'll be at Rowtor Carpark probably from about 2 o'clock. We're driving from Essex which is why we'll pitch up close to the motor for night 1. But we'll be moving by about 7 or 8 am on some sort of overnight loop. We wanna get some form of leisurely "training" in as were heading to scafell pike next month. No madness, but something to let the boys know what's on the way.
Anyway, take care mate, thanks again.
@@craigelliott4338 Does sound good, and it has been a while, but I am stacked with work at the moment. Keep me posted and I'll see where I am closer the time. Cheers Craig!
I wish I was closer to Dartmoor. I'm probably luckier than I think, but being in Manchester and so close to the Peaks always feels "meh" to me. I'd rather be in the Lakes or the Dales or Dartmoor. I guess I'd feel the same about that if I lived down there though? Maybe I'm just the type of person that always wants something different.
Thanks for the tor (TOR.... GET IT.... AHAHAHAHAHA)... I'll let myself out 🤣🤣
🤣🤣🤣 Yea, the grass is always greener on the others idea, eh, Matt? I would love to be closer to the Lakes, myself. Missed them last year
I miss Poland for the freedom factor. Dartmoor is 200 miles from me. There are no wild camping sites anywhere newr me. This makes me very sad.
Hello Trev, can you park overnight at Princetown ? I’ve read it’s only 3 hours max.
I don't know, I've never used Princetowns car park. There's plenty of smaller carparks around where it's free and unlimited parking.
Hi Trev. Great video as always suggesting some great spots BUT…… under the new “dispute” Kings Tor is no longer permissive camping 🤬 Worth people checking the DNPA map if they wish to wild camp legally and openly.
Yea, Pew Tor isn't there either now, and that's featured in this list. I do tell people to check the map in the video though, as I'm sure you saw when you watched it
@@SummitOrNothing Pew Tor, really? FFFFFS🤬 It’s ok for people who can yomp into the moor and “hide” but I really feel empathy for those who cannot and have now lost that freedom of wild camping legally on Dartmoor
@@DartmoorPaul I was planning on Kings Tor this weekend, so thanks for the info. Can you recommend any Tors that would be good to camp (in the map) as a novice please ?
Why is Dartmoor so far from me?
Someone move it to just outside Birmingham.. cheers.. 👍
You can have Cranmere Pool if you send us one of the mountains from the Lakes.. 🤣
Bell tor was my favourite, would have gone with honeybag but so much animal poo! 😂 going out again in a few weeks, so much choice!
Haha! Yea - often plenty of animal scat around lol. Bell Tor is a good tor too. Thanks for watching!
Black-Tor.
Yep!
No way, I camped in that dip at Black tor also
As long as it's dry, it's a great little spot!
