  • This weeks brand new weekly walk see's Trev wake at the crack of dawn to reach some of Dartmoor's more remote tors including Steeperton Tor, Watern Tor and Hanginstone Hill.
    It's not even 6am when Trev heads off on this weeks hiking during lock down adventure - he has the moor to himself as he heads to some of the remotest Dartmoor tors that there are. The North Moor has pretty much been Trev's playground during this strange time, and in this episode he pretty much wraps it all up together as he ticks off Steeperton or, Wild Tor, Watern Tor, Hanginstone Hill and East Mill Tor. And all in a pair of Columbia Conspiracy Trainers ( amzn.to/3gZ60pC ). Oh, and there are more viewers pics to end with too. Thanks for watching.

    Really enjoyed this walk. The climb up Steeperton from the Oke Tor direction gets the heart going. Great views all the way - your camera work is so good, just a little fast for me (I like to drink in the scenery).

    Cool video Trev, again really well made, all really nice Tor’s and the perfect day to be up early & have the moor to yourself. That’s one of the biggest draws to wild camping for me, when everyone has disappeared back home and you have it to yourself and as early an morning you want, love it! Can’t wait until we get the green light! Thanks for showing the pic & take it steady. Wilf L

It’s nice to plan for the first camp out and Watern Tor looks lush, I’m going to pluck for Steeperton I think as that view down the valley towards Belstone is a view that sticks in my mind from one of my first few camps so it’ll be nice to go back, only problem is I think it’ll be busy when they lift the ban but hey ho. Such a very beautiful & very special place* I am glad you made a point of mentioning ( even though it was a lovely sunny day ) places of remoteness , should never be taken in a blasé way. I remember watching Wiltshire Man on a wee holiday with friends ( I think it was Dartmoor) , if not Exmoor & they were saying how the grass/marsh land can float in "turf islands" & horse was known to have disappeared under. Doesn't even bear thinking about. Even with scary stories like this , I do believe I have fallen in love with Dartmoor & hope to visit in my life time :-)

    Beautiful part to walk in, Steeperton from Belstone is a slog from memory but worth it

      It was hard going, and I went off track a bit at one point and ended up hopping over some marshy (but dry) ground... I think that was where I lost my sunnies and why I didn't go back for them.... But, besides that, it was an absolutely cracking tor and a great walk. thanks for watching!

    Can you tell me if there is somewhere to park at the beginning of the walk? Many thanks

    • @SummitOrNothing
      @SummitOrNothing  3 роки тому

      Yes there are plenty of places to park near the start - enter Dartmoor via Okehampton Camp and you can park just under Rowtor or for rhis walk I parked at teh carpark just by the ford before you reach East Okement Farm

      I think its something to do with the army... not sure what exactly it is but they are stationed all around the military ranges.

    Hi Trevor, I noticed the walk goes through a Ministry of Defence area. Are there certain times of the year when you can’t enter these areas? Many thanks

      Hi Justine, you want to check the firing times - its Okehampton ranges you go through so if you were to google 'Dartmoor firing times' you should be able to find the table for the dates you are considering!
