Dartmoor - A Two Day Hike and Wild Camp on Sheeps Tor. Ancient Bronze Age Monuments.

- Опубліковано 2 лип 2024
- In this video, I am amongst the rugged beauty and ancient history of Dartmoor National Park. Setting off from Princetown and bathed in beautiful bright sunshine (rare for Dartmoor!), I thread my way across the moors and Tors visiting several impressive features and ancient bronze age monuments before arriving at my wild camp spot for the night on top of Sheets Tor.
After setting up camp and enjoying a hot dinner, I am rewarded with the most stunning sunset - a perfect end to a perfect day exploring one of my favourite areas in England.
Thanks for watching.

I hope you know how much this means to us old guy when you bring us along? We can feel every step, every sunset and sunrise the wind in our hair and the sun on our face. So thank you. ❤
Well said. I'm 72 and can't hike anymore. This was splendid!
@@utubetjcI'm in the same situation but due to health problems. This is almost as good as being there.
This. I can't do much. I need this.
What a lovely walk thanks for letting me tag along afraid I can no longer walk it these days 😊
That was so cool to see. Who and how did they put looks like trail markers out of concrete in? Middle of nowhere. Does someone maintain some of thise trails you were on? I give you a lot of credit doing whst your doing. Love to see those places and through you I and more people have. Thanks for doing what you do!
A timely reminder that there are still nice people out there…
Hello Simon. At the end of your videos you always say, thanks for watching. It's us that should do the thanking!!! Thanks for all your effort.
I agree with the previous comment. This channel is important. My son and I watch together. We get ideas on what to do next time we go on a hike or camping. Sometimes it's ideas on cooking, or gear. But it's also really nice to watch something POSITIVE for a change. Comments tend to be quite nice here too. Good job everyone. :)
The older I get, the more I feel connected with my ancestors that walked and lived on this island.
You are an English gem Simon! Not sure what it is about your videos, but they are just relaxing!
Agreed!
Don't take this the wrong way, I never thought the UK had so much open land! It's beautiful! Thank you for showing us Americans the landscape!
unfortunately, although it is indeed beautiful open wilderness, dartmoor is actually a rough circle with a diameter of only about 20 miles, and i dont think it can compare to the vastness that is the US. of course we're from different places, and what the other has will always astound us more than whats on our own doorstep. the world is full of wondrous places to explore.
Well, some U.S. citizens live and work abroad, so we know a few things (such as not conflating America - which includes every country in both N. and S. America - with the U.S.). I’ve lived in The Netherlands and the UK for the last 15 years, but decades before that we spent family holidays in the staggering beauty of Dartmoor, as well as Exmoor, the Lake District, Wales, the Durham Dales, and the South Downs National Park. The UK has wonderful open, peaceful, family friendly spaces!
@@Hortonscakes Exactly. "some US citizens" the vast majority of US citizens that leave comments on public platforms like this one (in my experience), show either a total wide eyed, or a disdainful ignorance and mocking dismissal of anything outside of "America" (as to your notions of conflation, millions of US citizens refer to their country as America and themselves as Americans, because, again, most US citizens believe that America IS the United States and the United States IS America).
@Hillbilly973 and @ellonlyons1840 I agree, I'm very open minded, love British culture, TV, etc. I didn't know I had to be specific to the region I live in, yes North America.
I know every place on this planet can be absolutely beautiful. Being from a very large country, I don't expect the UK (as small as it is) to have such amazing spacious land that is uninhabited. That is all I'm saying. I really don't appreciate being considered small minded about being American. I'm not a dip chewing redneck. Thanks and have a nice day!
@@pyrosparkes. True. But not really.... just about all of the land in the USA is privately owned, and that land that isn't is strictly administered as state parks.... there is about 8% in the UK that isn't privately owned (the Royal Family owns most of it). You're not likely to get shot for "wild camping" in the UK, but it's a distinct possibility in the US. I live in Sweden (because, I'm a lucky sod) and here there is "allemannsretten" or freedom to roam.... you can go any where, camp anywhere, and light a fire anywhere... the rule being: leave no trace. I will add here, I'm English, my sister lives in the US and, as I said, I live in Sweden.... so I know what I'm on about. A sad state of affairs when the experience of the beauty of nature should be a right for everyone.
Thanks for posting Simon, places I’d never normally see (or consider), there’s no other resource like this, gentle paced, informative and not too heavy. Please, keep them coming (more often)!
Thank you! I’ll try 😁
Always my favourite vids. Sat on the train ride home from work watching Simon, then realising I'm wearing one of his excellent shirts. Life is sometimes perfect.
Haha - thank you Jim! 😁👍
Thanks for coming to Dartmoor, This is where I live and it's a wonderful area. Glad you enjoyed it
Love it on Dartmoor! I’ll be back 👍
From South Africa frogs are a strong indicator of a robust and healthy eco environment
Pleasant surprise, Simon! An absolute Upgrade of my Day! thanks a lot for being there for us all!
Sorry it took so long.... Andy's uploaded first. But I'm here now to enjoy another episode my friend. Thank you for carrying us along. 👊
Just when i thought bad weather and indoor confinement boredom is going to end my life....this video releases ..THANKS
You are a true British adventurer! You need your own TV show.. Well done and more please!
Great you got some lovely sunshine ☀️ to show off Dartmoor at it’s best!
It always amazes and makes me remember how old your country is. Thank you for the history.
For this disabled old lady in Canada, I so enjoy your videos. (I loved seeing the Dartmoor ponies!)
I've been watching your videos for years Simon. Please never stop.
Love the honesty in all your work Simon, to say the night wasn’t so nice added to the authenticity, especially in this Insta/false reality world we’ve ended up in. Another great vid - always makes me happy when you release new content, especially when it’s your solo adventures. Keep up the quality, it’s very much appreciated. 💪🏻💪🏻🙌🏻
So incredibly happy to see the notification for this pop up! It's been so long since we've been able to enjoy any time outside, except caring for our critters. I love them, but it's not the same as just being out in the wild, enjoying peace and quiet. Thank you so much for sharing this beautiful scenery and your cheerful disposition with us. Amazing content! You always bring a smile to my face. Your efforts are always greatly appreciated by your fan base! Take care and be safe. Looking forward to your next adventure! 👍😊❤
How exciting to find your video pop up, we got very excited to watch you as a family. It was very relaxing. Thank you Simon .
So nice to have a new release at last. I knew it would be a good one. Beautiful countryside, Dartmoor. Love the stony hills and fields.
Very nice Simon, thanks for taking me along.
Thank you, Simon, for another adventure! Always much appreciated . . . . .
Thank you for the beautiful country side walk.
Yeayyyy a Simon video at last. I need this feel good therapy. ❤
13 thousand views in only 8?hour shows you how much we all love your trips and check hourly for your posts
Simon, I just love your hiking videos and all the little bits of history and the beautiful landscapes you bring to us on the way, so I'll take a few words here to say how much I appreciate all the camera work you have to do to bring us all that great scenery. Keep safe and healthy out there
I love tagging along with you on your trips Simon. I've never been to England and now I'm too old to venture that way. My grandparents emigrated from England in the 1920's and our family has kept up a lot of the English traditions, so I enjoy seeing some parts of their homeland through your eyes.
Another beautiful video! THANKS so very much! Your love of Dartmoor and the joy of the hike, well, thanks again for bringing so much beauty and history to us who will most likely not see it ourselves. ATB and looking forward to your next one.
I was hoping you would upload and you did 🤗. Your vibe always cheers me up. Thank you Simon and stay safe 🙏
SO pleased you posted this, do miss the regular outbput, BUT am grateful for this thank you.
Ditto, my words exactly. Many thanks 👏
Yesssssa !!!!!!! Rejoice for Simon guardian of the woods and land has returned with more blessings for us all
Yesssss
Greetings Simon! It's been several years since I last wrote you. It is Wednesday, July 3rd, 2024 @10:55am Mountain Time ( Boise, Idaho ) = about 6pm (local time in London. I enjoyed watching and "experiencing" the english countryside "Dartmoor National Park hiking trail and scenic panoramic views of your hike and camp on a good warm sunny day. Incredible beautiful summer sunset video photography! After more than, 15+ years of not owning any backcountry hiking gear, I received the good pleasure of the LORD to become interested in backcountry hiking and camping again, so with his knowledge and good counsel, I purchased a (new) Osprey Atmos LT 50L hiking backpack from an Oregon outdoor company in June. Great fun watching all your videos, especially the video of you preparing and enjoying a delicious homemade pizza over a firepit was a great cooking video where I learned how you made fresh pizza over a campfire. Well, farewell Simon . . . Dennis
Thank you Dennis, happy trails!
The teacher in you really comes through in your videos. It’s a pretty special form of filmmaking. I really enjoy it.
Such a lovely video as always Simon. The classy shot of you walking through the derelict building window was good. Solid B-roll and a bit of history. Bliss. Thank you.
Thank you so much ,really lovely, taking us with you xxx
Simon, just spent the day kayaking with friends on Black Creek, Western NY. Then spent time watching your video. What a complete day it was. Can't make it to England yet but your videos bring me there. Sight and sounds ! Thank you .
Thank you so very much for sharing this particular adventure with all of us. Your country is very beautiful and so rich with history. Take care, stay well, and thanks, again, for bringing us along with you. See you on the next one!
Simon, outstanding scenery and rich history. Thanks for bringing us along.
Another great vid Simon, thank you. I have a new baby so in the night as we do the feeds we watch your videos and tell my daughter how we’re going to camp in a few years. Thank you for all your hard work making these UA-cam adventures.
Thank you, Simon, for another nice video.
You're showing us an area that we would never see from Texas.
I truly hope you know how much we appreciate you showing us your travel areas.
God bless y'all and stay safe on your travels. 👍👍
Thank you Simon another great upload . Cheers up mood in this gloomy weather ! 🍷
Living in the oak and hickory forests of the US Ozarks, the moors look like a very different type of wild. Beautiful. Thank you.
Buttercup says to the other ladies. Who is this silly man ? He walks past me, Goes on a while . Comes back on his self, Walks past me again. Picks something up.They call it a camera i think!!! Then he walks past me again and carries on . What a silly man... From a human point of view Simon , Always amazing tagging along with you on these epic trips albeit from my laptop in the kitchen.
Thank you so much for sharing your journeys. As I watched your camp site… I could not help but imagine how many people have walked and camped there over all the years people have wandered the land. The “Panda Cows” at the nuns cross were hilarious. Safe travels sir.
Thanks Simon. Yr so lovely. Bless yr heart xxx
Simon, thank you I really enjoyed that.
I haven't been able to get out for few years now because of sickness and watching yourself and and Andy is just fantastic.
You make such a great well filmed and I really feel like I'm there. I am planning and hoping I can get back out as soon as I can, but you have really, really helped me on not losing my way.
Thanks again and can't wait to see your next adventure.
You know how to do it Simon.
👍🇮🇪👍
Get well soon❤❤❤
Thank you, really appreciate that.
😀🤞
Thank you Gary! I hope you get better soon and can get back out doing what you love! 👍👍

Good to see you Simon. Thanks for the beautiful hike!
Absolutely gorgeous Thank you for sharing this.
Lovely Simon, really lovely hike and camp, with bags of atmosphere. Thank you for sharing mate. Chris
That place is amazing. There has to be so many artifacts in the ground there , so rich in history. Awesome place, thanks for sharing such a great show and you camera work and editing are top shelf sir .
Brilliant Simon, your living the dream. Always look sp chilled and relaxed. Whatever your doing it's working for you.
Just as enjoyable to watch Simon. Your enthusiasm translates well to screen as your viewer walks along with you.
It's awesome to see someone else enjoying the journey.
I'm from Canada and the window to your country that you provide leaves me in awe of it's beauty. Thank you.
I grew up out in the country with gravel roads. Indeed a bit harder walk and hard on boot leather but I have to say that at 63 years I still love the sound of gravel crunching under feet and under tires.
❤❤❤Simon what a walk through history ❤ thank you for taking me there through your Lens!!! WoW!!! The animals ,Land Ancestral history show❤❤❤Just Loved every second of this ❤
I love seeing England through your walks. I'd mostly only seen cities so it's wonderful to see the countryside and all the amazing old stuff. Thank you for taking us along, Simon. Most enjoyable.
Yeah, your vids like a light in the darkness.
Lovely, lovely, lovely perfect Video. Thankyou so much for spending the time to bring us along with you. I really enjoy seeing you appreciate all parts of the day, the old, the new, the natural and the man made. The light aircraft, the RF Mast in the distance, waiting for the lights of Plymouth and the 3000 year old stone arrangement. Absolutely perfect
It’s beautiful! So much history. Thank you Mr Simon!❤
I always enjoy your adventures Simon. As always thanks for sharing. Especially when you and Andy get together. Hope you are doing well. Stay safe.
Great stuff, Simon.. in sunny weather, the Dartmoor region is an amazing area to explore and enjoy. Superb area to walk and …slow down. Best greetings from Brisbane, Australia
Terrific filming Simon, it's so nice to see the beautiful countryside. So many You Tubers film their daft faces yakking into the camera as they walk along..😊
Spent a lot of time up on that moor in my former career. Seen some strange things up there, things I couldn’t explain to this very day.
A testing environment, even on a good day.
Thank you for bringing its beauty to your channel Simon.
Another great one!! A set of foam ear plugs weigh nothing and go a long way to get some rest on nights like that!
Simon, love your videos .it's not just cutting wood and cooking .Thank You from,Pennsylvania, USA...
Enjoy your vids from the U.S.
Whenever I can, I follow along with your travels on Google.
I actually found your tent spot on Sheeps Tor.
I appreciate your production and soundtrack choices as well.
I love how relatively 'undeveloped' the UK remains in relation to it's 'age', as well as the quaint, cozy villages.
Look forward to more.
I Simon we miss the lovely dog ya had every time I watch your camping I think about your dog
We love all of your videos Simon. Thank you for another great adventure and for showing us your beautiful country.
Simon, thank you very much for sharing.
Please, keep up your outstanding work. That's an order. ;-)
nice video. thanks for going so we can visit this place lol
I love Dartmoor. Such variety.
What a beautiful countryside
I’ve done lots of wild camping down there in the South on the Moor over the last few years, so it’s great to see Dartmoor again!
Truly the last place in England you are officially allowed to wild camp freely… But for how much longer I do not know!?
I’ve done half a dozen camps up on Sheep’s Tor, it’s always blowing a hoolie up on there!.. Thanks for taking me along.
Much appraciated by many. Nice to see the beautyfull moor landscape. Thanks
Simon this walk was absolutely fantastic....the moors look to be am amazing landscape.
And l really enjoyed seeing those tadpoles...took me back to my childhood.❤
They are not easy to find.
Obviously it is clean country there.
Again thank you..🌲🌲🌲
Absolutely breathtaking. We don't have such ancient/amazing things here in the New World in Canada.
Thanks for another relaxing and scenic video👍
I was watching “Keeping Up Appearances “ a couple of weeks ago and now think if Hyacinth’s Husband could have only had guide like you when they were searching for Iron-Age remains…😂!
Have a great day !
Very excited to see Simon absolutely 💯 love this Bloke 🙏💯🇺🇸🇬🇧🏕️
Once again, thank you. 🇨🇱🇺🇸
Really fascinating to see the Bronze Age monument and get a bit of background. Thanks for taking us there!
Thanks Kimberly!
Enjoyed that, especially the standing stones site. Thank you for taking us there and around Dartmoor!
So much land so little trees. Your a beast Simone, hiking with you would be a marathon for me. Well done.
So nice to see you Simon and to go along on this brilliant hike. Places like that just fire the imagination of what went on there over time and generate respect for the people who lived there long before any modern conveniences. It would be great to hike and camp somewhere I didn't have to hang my food in a tree! I'd love to go there. Thank you
Thank you very much for taking me along on a pleasant trek across Dartmoor. Here in Minnesota, we also have a city named Plymouth. That itty bitty stove is a little gem!
Hi from Queensland. Loved the serene countryside and rocky outcrops. The prison on Dartmoor takes me to happy memories of "The Goon Show" radio show Harry Secombe, Spike Milligan and company. Loved your walk. Thankyou. 🙏
Nice shot of you walking past the door of the ruined house at 7:56. You can imagine the past lives on the Moor.
Thank you , Simon .
🐺Loupis Canis .
I agree with you. What a beautiful place. I really enjoyed seeing it.
Simon, thanks the great hike and education. Very nice!
Absolutely gorgeous land!
Its only featureless to those who cannot see its beauty.
A complete change to many previous vlogs, I thk u squire, so much appreciated, Simon, many thx
I always enjoy sharing these adventures you take us along on.
The British department of tourism should hire you. Now I wanna visit GB again.
Gorgeous scenery!
Absolute Stunning episode Sir Simon ✊🏼🧐! Thanks for bringing us along. Cheers brother from across the pond, California 🇺🇸 🍻👊🏼😎🤙🏼
Thank you! Such beautiful territory and views, and loved seeing the stone circle. I enjoy all your videos👍💯😊🙏❤️
Around 11:18- that stone circle was cool Simon!
Thankfully, the morons from "just stop oil" didn't deface it with orange paint!
Probably too far for them to walk from their electric vehicles 😂👍
I need to get over to the UK to explore where my Barton clan came from. The English in my blood finds comfort in watching your documentaries Simon! Appreciate it mate!
Excellent vid, droning, sun set and rise. Old mines, a life of pure misery digging by hand. Lots history, religion, work, development. The prison. Hope the water filter never fails you. Next time. Great job mate. Cheers
FANTASTIC!
