Max would spec’ing 32GB of RAM make much difference to the graphics performance as it’s shared graphics or would the extra not make much difference? Can’t decide to upgrade or not...! Thanks
Joe Tee Since Max won’t answer, I can. What do you mean by shared graphics? Usually graphical performance is the same regardless of the ram amount (especially if there is 8GB or more) But for video editing I would go for 32GB if I had the money

Ok but you know Max has two channels with a different focus. One (Max's tech) for the general audience and this one for photographers and videographers.
Video editing is usually a good test for CPU processing power. You could make the same complaint for video game benchmark reviews too, but it’s to test GPU power.

Oh my!!! Please do a comparison between the 10th gen 13” and the 16” base model soon please! The 16” is a refurbished set and it’s roughly about $300 more than the 13”.. I ordered the 13 if the 16 is way better then I would still have time to change! I’m just afraid portability might be an issue with the 16” as I’m gonna be carrying it back and forth to school :(
Zayden Kim Ali I get worrying about portability - the 13 inch easily wins for that. What sort of things do you intend to do with it? I personally would go for a refurbished 16 inch as in my mind, that is more future-proof and you get quite a bit of more performance for about $300 , if that’s indeed correct. Do you plan do a lot of video editing ? The pros of the 16 inch are more cpu cores and a discreet graphics , plus more screen Real estate and better microphones. However, I use an external display (4K) and when I use it with my work computer the performance (Premiere) goes WAY down. I'm stuck between the new 13" or a 16" to replace my personal 15" with my desk setup knowing the computer needs to run the external display while editing videos. Thoughts?
I'm going to study film animation. I currently own a macbook pro 15" 2012. I have the option to get the new macbook pro 13 inch. Is this a good replacement?
Hi Max, love your videos! Do you recommend people who have cameras that support H.264 upgrade to ones that support H.265? If so, what do you recommend?
You guys are killing it with your videos. I'm trying to figure out which MBP to buy, and you've been the most helpful of any channel in my process. Thanks!
Because the graphics card is identical and the CPU is barely faster (3-7% for $200 more) and for video editing you don’t even max out the CPU most of the time so it’s more like a 0-2% difference for video editing.
I really need to upgrade from my old 2016 retina MBP. I am really torn between the portability of the 13 inch versus more power and cooling capability of the 16 inch MBP
Deepak Murthy me too! I have a dinosaur 2010 17" MacBook Pro that weighs 3kg! I want something lighter and more portable like the 13" but I also want the best GPU like the 16". And I really can't wait another 6-12 months for the unicorn 14" to arrive... Ahhhh!
Agreeeee!!! I have a iMac 5K i7 from 2014 and I wanted to switch to a laptop for an year now. But the old keyboard was no-go and the 16" is just laaaarge. But. Is 13" enough? Is it fast enough? Really hoped for a 14" who was a a bit closer to the 16". This is a tough choice.
I think our choice should be based on what priorities we got. Long hours of heavy work on a desk, in office, you don’t move your mac a lot? The 16 gives more real estate and power. You travel a lot, you use your laptop often on a couch, bed, public places? The 13 is the ideal choice. The 16 is too big and heavy
Sam I am Agreed! I have the same computer and I can’t do anything on it at this point without waiting for minutes just to switch programs, etc. To have a new MacBook Pro that can airdrop to my iOS devices is going to be so awesome.
Deepak Murthy I agree with you, but even if you don't move your laptop too often. I find my 17" too painful to travel with even for the few time I need to. Too heavy and too bulky. Think I'm going to get a high end 13" and see how I go.
Thanks a lot Max. Each time I watch you very professional and honest reviews. And again you answered my question. If it possible edit 13” MacBook pro)))
MAX I want to see results of 1080p video editing.. Will you please share some details using MacBook Pro 13 base and 10th gen . I don't think 4k video editing is doing justice with it . Please make video regarding this. Love your channel very informal.....
If your using FCX or Resolve and doing basic 4K editing the $1700 2020 13' MBP can handle it. If you want more detail I'll have a comparison against the 16" soon so enable notifications!
im using it the 13" and i have edited few vlogs using premiere pro all i want to say is it takes hours to export a video (say a project is more than 10-15 mins time line it will take hours). You can just do small things, all i want to say is that 4k it's a big NO when you are a content creator and want to edit videos on daily or weekly basis. 1080p can be done no such issues 20-30 mins is the exporting time depending on your project timeline.
Hi Jimit Rathod, do you have any experience exporting 10-15 min projects using Final Cut Pro X or DaVinci Resolve on your 13"? Do you think it would be faster than Premier Pro? Cheers!
Will have Premiere and Resolve info soon and you guys can see how the NLE’s compare! Have you tried exporting to H.265 instead? Might save a lot of time!
So I guess my question is this: I have a 2015 13” mbp with 16gb ram which is struggling to keep up with photo editing and has been abandoned for learning video editing altogether (2018 ipad pro with LumaFusion is soo much better/faster), with what we know about the upcoming 14”, is it worth waiting? Or do you think the first 14” will just be the same specs with a better screen? Was really hoping for wifi6 and a dedicated gpu...
Hey Max and team, thank you for sharing this. WOW am I impressed even more with these machines. The 2015 MacBook Pro with dGPU exported Bruce X to ProRES with fans going full blast and GPU maxed out, in 1:16 seconds. I doubt it could play back some of the formats you all use to test. Out of curiosity is all that footage your own or can some of it be downloaded online? Thank you again for all the work you all do.
Hi Max - perhaps it's mentioned elsewhere but what app do you use to monitor your macbooks CPU and GPU usage / temp? I really like how clean the one you have is.
Really interested in seeing how this machine fairs in Logic Pro X! Like normal recording, tons of effects or the usual experience when writing songs. LPX also just got a big upgrade, really curious. Is that something on your to-do list?
I've just bought the $1799 one, I use it for video editing. I show on my channel its real world performance (live preview + rendering) in Final Cut Pro X.
Is there a way of communicating with you i have a question to ask. I want to invest in a computer but would like some1 to know my needs and then advice what is suitable? p.s ive subscribed 👍🏽
Hi max I was wondering can the new mba 2020 specs: I5 16gbRAM will do good in video editing? I’m torn between getting the macbookair 2020 and the macbookpro 2020
One question on my mind: Can this new MBP-13 handle these Final Cut Pro tasks while also driving a 4K or 5K external monitor? Does this MBP have enough internal GPU power to do that? Or does it require an eGPU?
Thank you for this video. Because of M1 coming, I order the last intel with this MacBook pro, and knowing better with your explanation. Another question is, is it also doing fine for 8K Video Editing? ( I'm trying to edit 360 degree video with premiere, do you have any suggestion?
Given the similarities in weight, I feel like the only reason you'd get an Air now is for the price. Or... maybe extreme hatred of the Touch Bar ? I got into MacBooks back in 2011, and back then I feel like there actual unique benefits of the Air which aren't really there anymore.
If you type a lot the wedge shape is a little more comfortable and you get a little better battery life but yes if you can spend the extra its better to get the Pro. Here is a full comparison: ua-cam.com/video/eC8qy0xdtx8/v-deo.html
Max Yuryev Fair point, I suppose if your primary reason for buying a laptop was homework where typing was the main focus a small ergonomic boost might mean a lot. Good comparison btw
Hi great video. I need a laptop that can edit video and unsure which one would be best. I wan to use something better than iMovie and wondered which one you’d recommend. The entry level MBP with 16gb of ram upgrade the £1799 Mac book pro or entry level Mac book pro or will this be over kill. Cheaper the better but would pay a little more to get it right first time. Thanks again
As you can see (i don't know how it's possible) this machine can barely handle 4k with cc applied. I think we can't ask more to this machine, 1080 with lot of effects maybe, 4k with lot of effects i don't think so. The timeline lenght is not so relevant in the edit but in the rendering time
Hey will you take a look at the influx of news indicating a massive USB issue on 2020 macbook models? I've most definitely been experiencing it. You can google "macbooks have a serious USB issue" and find a lot of new articles about it, including threads on reddit and macrumors. It's a pretty absurd problem - not having normally functioning USB capabilities on a $3K machine.
The CPU/GPU is the exact same as the 2019. The only thing that changed is the keyboard so here is that video for you: ua-cam.com/video/FtSC1ocRbvA/v-deo.html
I’m coming from a MacBook Pro 2015. I use Adobe softwares for video and photo editing. Can i get away with this 2020 MacBook Pro 13” (highest specs) or should I really purchase the 16”?
I’d like to know if buying a 13 inch Macbook Pro 2020 with 10th gen I5 processor , 32 Gb of RAM and 1 TB ssd would be enough to edit B-rolls for Instagram no longer than 3 min with final cut pro ? Considering I own a Fuji XT3 and I’m already doing photo editing, color grading, photoshop etc... the small form factor is also a big thing for me .. or should I go with the base 16 inch ? thanks
I’m thinking of buying the new MacBook Pro but I’m torn between 8GB ram 256gb or the 8GB ram 516gb? I want to start editing drone footage etc. What would people recommend? Heeeeeeelp
Hi, Max: Amazing how rapidly tech changes...I bought both the 13 inch 8 ram m1 chip with 512 ssd and ALSO the 13 inch 16 ram 2.0 ghz intel processor, both computers from 2020. I ran various performance speed tests---absolutely clear that for video editing the m1 chip is much faster, up to 40% faster, possibly 30%. The slower model I bought comes with 1 tb of SSD which is what I want, and since I'm not doing video editing when I take this computer on trips the slower speed is probably ok. Still, it is hard to walk away from such blazing performance for Final Cut Pro
OMG i hope u see this, so i just got the 2019 macbook pro i5 with 8gb i have the sony a6600 i can shoot with 1080 & 4k will i still be able to edit? Mainly Yt videos and vlogs??
So...I have Late 2013 Macbook Pro 15....I love screen size...but is it silly to upgrade to the 16 inch just for the screen size? The 13 $1799 version is more than adequate for me power wise. I know its a personal call...but it seems like the 13 in size is now the "default" mainstream laptop apple size....the 16 is marketed to true "pros"......but some of us like/need larger screen for aging eyes lol. Do you find 13 would be okay for aging eyes..nothing bad...just normal readers thing.....i.e. am I really just giving up screen real estate? Thanks for any thoughts!
If you don’t mind the size of your laptop get the 16”. It will be the same physical size just thinner and lighter than your 15” but with a bigger display. It’s a bette laptop overall. I’ll have a video editing comparison soon but here’s a overall comparison for you. ua-cam.com/video/A1qlcBKu9Bo/v-deo.html
Thanks for making these informative videos. One of the test you ran was 4K @ 30fps. I was hoping to edit 4K Drone footage @ 60fps with this new MBP. Would you be able to comment on how well that might go? Thanks!
Is it safe to assume that if I was doing 1080p video editing with some effects, that the 13 inch 10th gen macbook should be able to handle my workload with no issues? I use 1080p footage, 30-60 FPS from a sony camera.
thanks for doing these max! arghh, i'm so on the fence. i really want the 13" because of portability, but kinda need the performance of the 16". apple!!! when are you gonna give us 16" specs in a smaller body!!! hahahah
same here, really difficult to decide. i still have a 2015 macbook pro 13 so would be a big jump either way but if im gonna keep that thing for 5 more years i wanna know which one is right
I'm in the exact same position. I ended up getting the 2020 13 inch with 32GB RAM and upgraded processor (4 core 2.0 Ghz). Still not sure I made the right call. I'm not a professional editor and I like to travel a lot, so I ended up choosing portability.
Same here....hope the new 14 inch with arm processor will have it....I ended up going with 13 inch with 32gb ram upgrade...I am not a professional video editor...still in the basics of video editing so chose portability over power 😀

Thanks a lot Max. Each time I watch you very professional and honest reviews. And again you answered my question. If it possible edit 13” MacBook pro)))
Yup, this is going to be my new Macbook. Time to upgrade from my mid 2012 Macbook Air.
Hi Max, normally I am editing videos around 30 min . Would you Recommend 32 GB and i7 ? Thanks
MAX I want to see results of 1080p video editing..
Will you please share some details using MacBook Pro 13 base and 10th gen .
I don't think 4k video editing is doing justice with it .
Please make video regarding this.
Love your channel very informal.....
Man this is great work I think its time for me to update my 2014 15 inch Mac book pro
What you think? Do I really need the to Spend more and get the 16” or this 13” is Good Enough for 4K Editing?
If your using FCX or Resolve and doing basic 4K editing the $1700 2020 13' MBP can handle it. If you want more detail I'll have a comparison against the 16" soon so enable notifications!
@@MaksimYuryev What about longer (20+ minutes) 1080p videos in Premier Pro? And only occasionally
@@KaneSanMiguel For premier Pro you'll probably want more power.
Max Yuryev Thank You. I’ll Watch it 👍🏾
Buy an rtx laptop for that price lol
this machine is not good
im using it the 13" and i have edited few vlogs using premiere pro all i want to say is it takes hours to export a video (say a project is more than 10-15 mins time line it will take hours). You can just do small things, all i want to say is that 4k it's a big NO when you are a content creator and want to edit videos on daily or weekly basis. 1080p can be done no such issues 20-30 mins is the exporting time depending on your project timeline.
This is well-known by now. Premiere Pro is not well-optimized and needs a lot more power to work well.
Hi Jimit Rathod, do you have any experience exporting 10-15 min projects using Final Cut Pro X or DaVinci Resolve on your 13"? Do you think it would be faster than Premier Pro? Cheers!
So would the new 2020 Mac Book Air be better?
Will have Premiere and Resolve info soon and you guys can see how the NLE’s compare! Have you tried exporting to H.265 instead? Might save a lot of time!
I wouldnt comment on final cut pro ,because i havent used fcp on macbook.
i havebeen using this machine for 6 months and it still works pretty well, i didn't find any lag in it.
i also plays minecraft in it with 60 fps!!
Im getting this today. Thank you Ace!
Please I would like you to recommend the best Mack pro specification I can use for my video editing/ photography and music productions thanks.
I got this new macbook, same as in this video, and editing video 2k got very laggy playback, even using 1/4 playback rezo in premier.. Please help!
Hi Max, i wonder to know if the 1199$ MBP 2020 can handle Photoshop, lightroom and render video 2k, will very appreciated for your answers! thanks
Really interested in seeing how this machine fairs in Logic Pro X! Like normal recording, tons of effects or the usual experience when writing songs. LPX also just got a big upgrade, really curious. Is that something on your to-do list?
Hey, awesome review, thanks!
Do you know, how long would it's battery last when fully charged and video editing the whole time? Thanks!
I just ordered the MacBook pro 13 after this Video. You make the beste Gear Review 👍🏻
OMG you make so many videos😱🤩 You put so much effort in your videos! Thank you so much! It helps me and surelyany others very much!
Hi Max, in your chart you wrote "Video Rendering Test(Seconds)" - i believe you meant to write "Video Rendering Test (Minutes)"
Yes sorry!
how about scrolling through the timeline, is it smooth? or does it jump? not just playback, but manually scrolling through it, thanks in advance! :)
This dude is amazing, thank you so much man. This video is perfect
nice video! can you recommend it for streaming from ps4 with an elgato?
Do you think the 13” would be fine for video edits with a lot of effects + layers? (I’m gonna be making edits so they all are under 1 minute)
Im replying to get the answer as well 😂
Mahmud Turker lol
As you can see (i don't know how it's possible) this machine can barely handle 4k with cc applied. I think we can't ask more to this machine, 1080 with lot of effects maybe, 4k with lot of effects i don't think so. The timeline lenght is not so relevant in the edit but in the rendering time
How good would this be for live streaming with obs, youtube and atem mini?
Hey will you take a look at the influx of news indicating a massive USB issue on 2020 macbook models? I've most definitely been experiencing it. You can google "macbooks have a serious USB issue" and find a lot of new articles about it, including threads on reddit and macrumors. It's a pretty absurd problem - not having normally functioning USB capabilities on a $3K machine.
What GPU/CPU monitor ap do you have installed that displays the specs in the upper right hand corner of finder?
Can you test the base model for video editing
The CPU/GPU is the exact same as the 2019. The only thing that changed is the keyboard so here is that video for you: ua-cam.com/video/FtSC1ocRbvA/v-deo.html
I’m coming from a MacBook Pro 2015. I use Adobe softwares for video and photo editing. Can i get away with this 2020 MacBook Pro 13” (highest specs) or should I really purchase the 16”?
Thank you for sharing this great review
I’d like to know if buying a 13 inch Macbook Pro 2020 with 10th gen I5 processor , 32 Gb of RAM and 1 TB ssd would be enough to edit B-rolls for Instagram no longer than 3 min with final cut pro ? Considering I own a Fuji XT3 and I’m already doing photo editing, color grading, photoshop etc... the small form factor is also a big thing for me .. or should I go with the base 16 inch ? thanks
Yea I think you’ll be good! If your doing short clips 16GB will be just fine!
I wanna see it vs a new iPad Pro bench marks for video editing
Max, do you know if the RAM is user upgradable from 8 to 16?
Thanks Max. The new graphic card really delivered as promised. Personally, as maxed 2018 model owner, I'll be waiting for the next 13".
how can you see the temperature and fan speed on your menu bar?
4 core 10th gen 2020 Macbook Pro 13" vs 6 core 8th gen 2020 Mac Mini? both 16gb ram-- Out of the box, which would see better timeline performance?
Should I get this or the MacBook Pro 16? Will be editing 4K vids using the fusion tab on Davinci resolve 16 for UA-cam
thanks bro! powerful comparison from the old macbook pro! kudos
More than two recommends for Home. video??? I have heard that it raises a lot of temperature
I’m thinking of buying the new MacBook Pro but I’m torn between 8GB ram 256gb or the 8GB ram 516gb? I want to start editing drone footage etc. What would people recommend? Heeeeeeelp
Is the 1799 with no added extra enough for screen recorded youtube videos editing with external monitor connected? Thanks.
Please attach an eGPU and benchmark it.
Hope to see the 13" vs 16" I'm waiting to make the decision right now..
13 inches cuz it's more powerful than you can think and cheaper than 16 inches although 16 inches is the most powerful.
@@manasjaiswal8685 I was thinking the same...
You think is better than a 2015 15” retina R9 ?
Hey, do you think Davinci Resolve works better on a desktop Mac or PC?
Whats better? A new 2020 13in MacBook Pro with the G7, or an older 15in 2016 MacBook Pro with the Radeon 460?
OMG i hope u see this, so i just got the 2019 macbook pro i5 with 8gb i have the sony a6600 i can shoot with 1080 & 4k will i still be able to edit? Mainly Yt videos and vlogs??
you can but it will be little slower than the 2020 version, he explained in the video
Is the 10th gen version still having heat and fan issues using iMovie and FC even for 1080 editing?
Should i get that MacBook or a pc
How come now when I go to Apple website it only has 8th gen intel as a option
Thanks a lot, it was very helpful!
Hi my MBP 13” 10th Gen’s fan get really really loud, like super loud when i render export a video from Imovie. Is that normal?
normal ,it would be normal if the sound is not bigger than Big Bang
Hi,
nice Video.
i orderd a 13 2020 Macbook too.
At the moment i use a mac mini 2012 for 4k Videos and i need 30 min for Export ^^
I plan on editing with a macbook for ae. Should I get 32ram gbs or a 16ram gbs?
I have the mcbook air 2020 i5, and I want to use it to edit video or pictures, but like once a month or somtehing like that is that ok ?
Thanks for making these informative videos. One of the test you ran was 4K @ 30fps. I was hoping to edit 4K Drone footage @ 60fps with this new MBP. Would you be able to comment on how well that might go? Thanks!
Is it safe to assume that if I was doing 1080p video editing with some effects, that the 13 inch 10th gen macbook should be able to handle my workload with no issues? I use 1080p footage, 30-60 FPS from a sony camera.
He just tested even 4K editing and it shows no issues...what do you think then?....
@@alexgiovann7971 I think being an asshole on UA-cam is a waste of time.
thanks for doing these max! arghh, i'm so on the fence. i really want the 13" because of portability, but kinda need the performance of the 16". apple!!! when are you gonna give us 16" specs in a smaller body!!! hahahah
same here, really difficult to decide. i still have a 2015 macbook pro 13 so would be a big jump either way but if im gonna keep that thing for 5 more years i wanna know which one is right
I'm in the exact same position. I ended up getting the 2020 13 inch with 32GB RAM and upgraded processor (4 core 2.0 Ghz). Still not sure I made the right call. I'm not a professional editor and I like to travel a lot, so I ended up choosing portability.
Jim Wall hey did u ever decide to upgrade it? If u did how did it perform?
@@AngelGonzalez-mb2eo Hey it hasn't arrived yet, I'll know in about 6 days when it arrives :). But yet I did pay for the upgrades.
Same here....hope the new 14 inch with arm processor will have it....I ended up going with 13 inch with 32gb ram upgrade...I am not a professional video editor...still in the basics of video editing so chose portability over power 😀
