I wish we could get the same offer here in India too.. 1199$ (mbp13 + airpods) Just bought the base macbook pro 13 for around 1600$ here(1500$ after student id discount).... :(
Wow, your points on being able to do more with less specs and having the same performance on battery life are things that other reviewers don't mention! Thank you!
Absolutely agree with you. Just got my new one (my third) last week. The thing I love most about MacBooks is that they just do everything without fuss, no silly popups, no antivirus warnings etc etc, I just open it up and start working. You never get that with other platforms. I got the 16GB one with 10th gen processors, probably overpowered but it means it just runs so silently, I mean it doesn’t make a sound, plus it doesn’t seem to heat up as much as my old one did. Just a lovely, lovely device and a joy to use.
The most important reason for getting a 2020 MacBook and not a refurbished older one (given you want a MacBook): the keyboard! Had a 2018 one that was at Apple twice for keyboard replacement! Dumped it for a 2020 one - all happy now
Curious about the experience on your transition from windows to mac OS. I'm also contemplating on buying this but I'm doubtful if I'll like the Mac OS.
A Naj I would confidently say that you would enjoy it (macOS user here). Buy it from Apple, and you have a 2 week return period. So test it out, and if you like it, all is well!
Your time will come man. I'm 24, and for years up until now I'd watch these wishing that one day I could buy one as well. Now I'm researching and looking into getting whatever mac I want.
Work hard man. I was like that a while ago and then I worked for it. I'm still very young, 15, and I just bought the $2800 version. Took 2 years for it. Achieve your dream!
5:35 it's so true. I don't know how they do it, but the Mac just makes me want to use it and interact with it. I just came off of 4 years working strictly on Windows machines - nice windows machines like the Spectre x360 and the XPS 13. It's weird, other than when traveling, I would hardly every use those laptops at home away from my desk and on my lap. I pretty much always had them hooked up to the desk, monitor, keyboard, etc. Not so with the MBP. I just love using it, typing on it, taking it around the house with me. When the trackpad is so good that you forget you have a mouse plugged in, that's the Macbook.
Mac specs are like game consoles. On the surface they seem pretty unimpressive and low tier, however the sheer amount of proprietary optimizations that Apple are able to cram into their products more than compensates for the relatively mediocre components. It's very much a 'final product is greater than the sum of its parts' mentality.
I just purchased a refurbish an 13 Macbook Air..I had a 2011 macbook air which was still doing what i needed it for but for some reason the battery got swollen and i got tired of using it via plugged in. I'm happy with the air. Great video..always a pleasure watching them.
I want to say in June I got a MacBook Air from Costco, first MacBook ever it was a big jump and I was really freaking out. That said two months later my Photos app is crashing when I’m organizing my photos and my capslock button isn’t consistently working. Luckily I got it from Costco and due to timing, as the sale ends in two days, with your video I decided I’m going to return my MacBook Air and go get a MacBook Pro since it’s only an $82 difference while it’s on sale. Thank you for the video and thank you and UA-cam for your weird algorithm
My daughter owns a Macbook Pro which is just over TEN YEARS OLD and it still chugs away every day. Show me another brand of laptop that happens to regularly. Nah - there isn't one.
Still rocking a 2012 13” pro. Upgraded to SSD and maxed out ram. Still has a disc drive which I love and lots of ports. I’ve got about $400 and it still works great for the machine I grab when I’m on the go. Is it my main machine? No. But when I’m on location it still does great. Over all the years they really didn’t do much hardware upgrades from this one. Can’t beat it for the price. And it’s so simple to work on.
These reviews are so confusing! You hear such different things from different people. Several others explain how this model isn't so great and doesn't measure up with even the i7 version. I got this machine yesterday, because my old Mac's headphone jack stopped working and I had just replaced the keyboard a couple months ago after a spill so thought it was time to get a new one. But I fixed that problem and am trying to decide whether to take this back again. I was pretty much decided I was going to take it back, but this video is making me reconsider!
Hello, Big fan...I'm a student and I had a few doubts. Firstly I'm a computer engineering student and I was wondering if I should wait for the 2021 updated version because it is rumored to have a custom Apple-built ARM processor, mini LED display, more screen real estate (14.1'') and many fancy new things. I will benefit a lot from an ARM processor but my current laptop is in a dire state... I might be able to pull off another year in it but my question is if I really should? There are also a lot of people circulating that the custom processor will first come to the air and then the pro in the following year, so how true is that? Will WWDC 2020 address any of these questions? Thank You
I must admit that I chuckled a bit when you said that you have worked in an office for five years. My perspective is different because I'm old. When I was a kid, 18 months saw notable improvements that led to upgrades, but the timespan lengthened over time to seven years: from a Heathkit Microprocessor trainer (hex keypad and seven-segment LEDs), to a Sinclair ZX80 (membrane keyboard and the screen blanked out when you pressed a key), Vic 20 (real keyboard, colour and sound), Commodore 64 (32 K of available RAM, amazing, sprites, great sound!), Commodore 128, IBM PC clone with MS DOS (ooh, a hard drive and 80 columns of text!), laptop with Windows 3.1 (GUI!), desktop with Windows 95, desktop with whatever Windows they had in 2001, laptop with whatever Windows in 2007, then an MBP in 2013. I'm still happy with it! I wonder if I'll ever change? I had to replace the keyboard after spilling a Coke on it, and the screen is kind of delaminated, but I still like it. You're right about the Apple eco-system...I would add a shout out for AirPods, they're life changing.
I have never seen any of your videos until today, I am hooked man, you are great at this. Thanks for the great breakdown as I have been going back and forth on whether or not to fork over the extra money or not. Keep up the good work, you are easily one of my favorite reviewers now.
I’m waiting for mine to be delivered 🤩 I took the basic model and upgraded it with 16gb. Hope this will be a beast for video editing and the extra RAM will boost it even more.
Recommend the 16gb upgrade?? I’m looking to get it for video editing and wondering if I need to upgrade ram. Because if you get the 512GB one and upgrade the ram you are only 150 pounds off the 10th gen processor version
I ordered mine this past weekend with my student discount and got a free AirPod with them. Excited for my first MacBook ever. I’ll get the MacBook Pro 16 inch next year. Thanks for the review man.
If you actually hook up your MacBook Pro to a second monitor YOU DO want to close your screen instead of keeping it open because if the screen is closed the processor has less work to do so it will be less hotter instead of opening the screen and the processor has to process two screens.
I have a question. First off, wonderful video by the way. So I just purchased the 2020 MacBook Air upgraded to 16gb ram and the 10th gen i7 processor for college and for music/video production. Would you recommend the base model Pro or the high-end Air for those reasons?
Hey man :) definitely go for the Pro Model as you use it for music production. The whole air series is not made for music/video production. Just go with the base Pro Model and Upgrade the RAM :)
This Air will cook itself from the inside with its pathetic cooling system. I can barely handle i5 processors and i7 would absolutely overload it. If you need power just don't look at Air, take Pro or some Windows laptop (there are some affordable workhorses from Lenovo and such).
I got the base model for school and light video and photo editing and I absolutely love it! Best computer I’ve ever owned and I’m glad that I’ll be sticking with Apple. I bought my first iPhone three years ago and I’ve continued to buy Apple over their competitors because of how well their products are optimized and how reliable they are. My friend has a MacBook Pro from 2013 and it still works like the day they bought it
I was about to buy the high end MacBook Pro for simple Instagram photo and video editing, but thanks to your video I realized I didn’t need all that for the stuff I’ll be using it for. Thank you! Now I have extra money for accessories 🙂
haha, I love how passionate you are talking about apple product. I am looking for an affordable MacBook pro for video editing but I don't want the big and heavy ones from years ago (I am so fussy lol). Maybe I will go for this one. I love my old MacBook Air and I don't want let it go. But maybe I have to one day. Great video!
I have a MBP from 2017 but with 16GB. It is such a versatile machine - Final Cut Pro works like a charm with quick rendering, photo editing, Keynote, music... and two monitors hooked up make it so much better to use.
Recommend the 16gb upgrade?? I’m looking to get it for video editing and wondering if I need to upgrade ram. Because if you get the 512GB one and upgrade the ram you are only 150 pounds off the 10th gen processor version
Have had my base model MacBook pro 13in for about a month now and I absolutely love it. As a student in college it does everything I need it and efficiently. Never really have an issue with fans or overheating unless im running a bunch of big programs. MUST BUY OVER MAC AIR
This video really makes me want to buy this.. was trying to wait for the Apple silicon but my 2011 MacBook Pro finally gave out Do you think it’s worth waiting for?
Do you know what the cause of the problem is? I have a MBP 2011 as well and the GPU has failed three times now. It's pretty common unfortunately. It's fairly easy to disable the GPU though, so you might not need a new laptop
rnd i had a computer place look at it and they said the motherboard was toast so no point in fixing it.. should have just tried to fix it myself before parting it out Oo well It’s time anyway
Okay you guys I had the MacBook Pro 2020 base model for 3 days now and I really love it the only thing that I don’t like is that it gets really really hot (not over heating) when I first set it up it got hot just From me setting up my iCloud and stuff but when I watch movies or 4K UA-cam it dose not get hot only when I play sims 4 witch your really not supposed to but I fixed the heating problem if I want to play sims or get on heavy applications I just use my cooling pad and the fans don’t come on and my laptop never gets hot anymore so yess I love the Mac book pro but I Would advise if you want to game just get a gaming laptop they would preform a lot better
Next time I suggest you to see review first... the air don’t have a direct contact between fan and cpu so all cpus get 100 Celsius quickly limiting the power. The i7 get the same performance as the base i3 because of this. The pro base with the i5 destroy any air configuration just because of the cooling
thanks for this comment. seriously! i literally bought the i7 16gb MacBook Air too and my order is still being processed. I will cancel in time to get the Pro model
Currently shopping for a MacBook for my sister and realized im not subscribed ! Keep the great content coming my guy and please stay safe. Much love from NYC
Great vid. I’m deciding between this baseline model vs the 2020 iPad Pro for my “everyday” driver (mostly web browsing, documents, and maybe the occasional small video edit). Thoughts?
Jason Spoolstra the iPad Pro can probably do what you want. But in terms of versatility and future-proofing for activities that you might engage in further down the line, I would recommend the MacBook Pro hands down. I’ll be switching from an iPad Pro 10.5” (2017) as my daily driver to the base model + upgrade to 16 GB RAM. Going to keep my iPad for consumption of content, gaming, and light editing of documents etc.
Just copped the 512 Gb version . I’m a business student and this machine should be perfect. Upgrading from 2012 MacBook Pro that still is kicking ass today!
Not really. Let me explain to use 16gb for example in video editing you must use 4K or 6k with multiple luts and effects but at this stage you will be already heavily cpu and gpu limited so you don’t gain any performance. 16gb make more sense on the 16 inch pro which have the power to drive more heavily task at the same time and benefits from that extra ram
If you’re planning on using photoshop or video editing then yes because when you’re editing with loads of assets then the 8gb will run out fast and enter ‘Swap’ and become really slow.
Great review. It took me nearly 8 years to finally jump to the Apple side of the fence. First with a 2013 13 inch MacBook Pro for photo/video work (I still use a Lenovo windows 10 device tho by choice for IT work). Then I got a second gen iPad Pro 12.9 (which, I suspect for 90% of the population, this is all they need!), and finally gave up on Android phones and got an iPhone 11 Pro. The last comments in the video is exactly why - these products work so well together. There is no other ecosystem that comes close (airdrop!!). And despite my 7.5 year old MacBook Pro starting to show its age (battery only lasts about 2-3 hours now) the design, such as details like the hinge that still works like the day I bought it. I’ve held off buying a new MacBook because of the last gen terrible keyboard, so glad that’s been fixed... I’ll still miss all the really needed ports though (SD Card, HDMI, USB 2/3.1). Couple downsides to Apple tho - if you have any plans to play games - MacBook 13s are terrible (for the price). Also, getting things fixed can be expensive (where, a lot of Win products you can easily open and fix/upgrade). Last suggestion, if you are doing any photo/video work, go right for a 512gb hard drive...I got a 256 on mine, and constantly juggling space to make room for new projects (literally, I’ll run it down to a couple gb - Apple Finder is also not always great at showing updated file system usage).
Hi Gary. Very nice videos. I am in doubt to have MacBook Pro base or iPad pro with lumafusion. What you recommend? I want to use it for video editing but I am starting . I think iPad pro will be more nice for travel etc... What you think?
Is it worth it to upgrade from 8GB RAM to 16GB RAM on the base model Macbook Pro 2020? Or is the one worth $1799 the better choice? Thank you and love your video!
Ordered one and it arrived a couple days ago, watching this video on it right now in fact. The only upgrade I got was 16 GB of RAM. I tried a practice export on Final Cut, a 4K clip and while the fans kicked up, it was still pretty powerful. I love the keyboard also. Highly suggest people go for this MacBook Pro.
I feel you, I get flareups of CPS whenever I’m not careful to not overuse my hands after first getting it 5 years ago in college. I’ve been using the slim Microsoft ergonomic keyboard.
Hey man, could you tell me what this MacBook is like on video/zoom calls. Is it loud or hot when using an external monitor and screensharing at the same time? Cause I want to buy it and most of my uni will be online😂
if you are using for zoom only with your video cam on the fan is fine and not hot just fine.. but if you are using zoom with screen sharing yes your macbook air will be hot ( but not very very hot ) and yes your fan sound so heavy .. just bought macbook air 2020 i3 model with 256gb and 8 ram just 2 days ago ..
I curretly have the macbook pro 2018 15inch and I dont like how it is sooo heavy so im considering getting a 2020 13inch macbook pro. Do u think its worth it? I dont need to edit pictures, videos. The only thing that I might need is to run programs like MATLAB.
Just when I finally had my list narrowed down to the Dell XPS 13 9300 & the Microsoft Surface... now I have to add this for consideration. UPDATE: I ended up getting a MBP. Caught a sale from Best Buy.
wow! this is a great video about the macbook pro 13 inch. i was debating weather or not i should get the air or the pro. i really enjoyed this video it gave me more reasons why i should lean to the pro more. definitely coming back to this video is 2 weeks bc thats when i will be getting it. thanks!

Luckily stumbled across your channel last week while looking for my 1st ever MacBook. Went with 2020 MacBook 13” because of your great review! Absolutely LOVE this machine! Thank you! Your videos are relevant for an IT idiot such as myself. I’m an actor and have been trying to simplify my Tech world and feel that I now can. Do you have a video or could you do one on the 2020 MacBook Pro features that can save time and make work most efficient? (Literally I just learned what a ‘Gesture’ was by watching your other videos.). Thanks Gary and keep up the solid work!
I've got a mid-2012 15 inch Macbook Pro that I adore and still works fine, but I am shopping for a new baby. I've had this in my crosshairs for awhile, and now I know I'm getting this. 🧡

Dude your videos are really helping with my decision for a MacBook, thank you so much
I already have a 2017 MacBook Pro but giving it to my bro so I’ll end up getting the 2020. I love the new keyboard and you’re a hot dad.
Indeed He is a hot dad lol
he really is a hot dad
My friend has a MacBook Pro from 2013 and it still works like the day they bought it
Hey @jospicy.... Is 8 gigs of ram enough for your use case?
You are the only one youtuber recommending this
I was about to buy the high end MacBook Pro for simple Instagram photo and video editing, but thanks to your video I realized I didn’t need all that for the stuff I’ll be using it for.
Coz of you The Everyday Daddy I’m convinced to buy MacBook 2020 :).
The seamlessness between devices man. Like i dont even own latest mbp or iphone but it’s such a joy to use.
i’m so happy with my 13 inch pro i went with the 16 gb upgrade for editing and music production and it’s a beast !!
Recommend the 16gb upgrade?? I’m looking to get it for video editing and wondering if I need to upgrade ram. Because if you get the 512GB one and upgrade the ram you are only 150 pounds off the 10th gen processor version
@@MoneyyTalksss Did the price of the ram upgrade go up for you too?
Félix-Antoine Berthelot went up for me too🙃 had to contact them cause I thought there was a mistake
Félix-Antoine Berthelot yes
@@MoneyyTalksss Yep I just went for the tenth gen version - just waiting for delivery
Have had my base model MacBook pro 13in for about a month now and I absolutely love it. As a student in college it does everything I need it and efficiently. Never really have an issue with fans or overheating unless im running a bunch of big programs. MUST BUY OVER MAC AIR
Can we call the "One-handed clapping" "The duck quack" instead?
Ha! Thats what I’ll call it from now on 🤣
This video really makes me want to buy this.. was trying to wait for the Apple silicon but my 2011 MacBook Pro finally gave out
Do you think it’s worth waiting for?
Do you know what the cause of the problem is?
I have a MBP 2011 as well and the GPU has failed three times now. It's pretty common unfortunately. It's fairly easy to disable the GPU though, so you might not need a new laptop
rnd i had a computer place look at it and they said the motherboard was toast so no point in fixing it.. should have just tried to fix it myself before parting it out
Oo well
It’s time anyway
I just ordered one 🤩🤩 I’m so exitedddd I got the base model it sounds so good from this video thanks
It is. For productivity and for your the money and specs I don’t think you can go wrong. Looking forward to your content.
Please leave a review when u get it and use it
I went for the tenth gen version - gotta wait a week for delivery 😭
@@willwillson5729 Yep I already have one - just want a mac for final cut pro
bought this vr 512GB/8GBRam for $530 w a busted touchbar. All works fine for education use and really good keyboard!
i’m buying it next week. looking forward to it!
i would pay for the same specs but larger screen. just wish there was an in-between kinda thing
My i7 macbook air 16gb ram arrived and after 2 days i can say just lightroom is too much for air. I will return and get pro 2020 base with 16gb ram
Yeah man with that price you spent you can get a decent pro and don't have to think about light and performance anymore
That’s exactly what I did!
Did the same! Smart move
I just bought mine as you recommended today. 256gb storage seems is not enough for me, I should buy portable ssd later
Who else watching on a base 13inch MacBook Pro
meee
lol i'VE GOT a maxed out 13 inch 2018
I am watching it in my brand new MacBook Pro base model, but I upgraded the ram to 16gb. I love this machine.
Jade Viera I have the 2019 base model since October
Atharva Gupta what like a 3k$ maxed out?
YAY! Such a good video, enjoyable to watch☺️ I just ordered mine🤩🤩
Jokes on you
I bought the Macbook Pro 13'
with british english.
Just copped the 512 Gb version . I’m a business student and this machine should be perfect. Upgrading from 2012 MacBook Pro that still is kicking ass today!
Thank you so much, I plan to get it but with an upgraded 16gb memory instead of 8gb. Do you think it’s worth me upgrading on the memory at all please?
definitely, this time it even comes quite cheap for apple. It makes your laptop a lot future-proof as you can not upgrade your ram later
Not really. Let me explain to use 16gb for example in video editing you must use 4K or 6k with multiple luts and effects but at this stage you will be already heavily cpu and gpu limited so you don’t gain any performance. 16gb make more sense on the 16 inch pro which have the power to drive more heavily task at the same time and benefits from that extra ram
what r u gonna use it for
Yes definitely
If you’re planning on using photoshop or video editing then yes because when you’re editing with loads of assets then the 8gb will run out fast and enter ‘Swap’ and become really slow.
Most underrated channel on UA-cam! Love your honest reviews
I have a 2014 MacBook Pro 13 inch. Works great for video editing. No need to upgrade yet.
everyday dad: if i can figure it out
me: then you can figure it out!
Hi Gary. Very nice videos. I am in doubt to have MacBook Pro base or iPad pro with lumafusion. What you recommend? I want to use it for video editing but I am starting . I think iPad pro will be more nice for travel etc... What you think?
I tend to have a shit ton of google chrome tabs open, while on FaceTime, on discord, and watching videos. That takes a toll on 8gb of ram lol
Jones mc big balls I have a windows laptop already. It’s just that macOS is so helpful in college since everyone uses airdrop, iMessage, etc.
Is it worth it to upgrade from 8GB RAM to 16GB RAM on the base model Macbook Pro 2020? Or is the one worth $1799 the better choice? Thank you and love your video!
I’m bit worried , actually my goal why I wanted to buy this is to edit videos in 1080p to 4K. Hope wouldn’t regret this base model.
You’ll be fine
I just bought a refurbished macbook pro with the keyboard...2019...areivea today...beyond excited
I ordered my MacBook Pro yesterday with the extra 8gb RAM and the airpods free (:
Which color is best you did not answer that one! Silver or Space Grey
Can you make an iPad Pro + magic keyboard vs MacBook pro base model 🙏
Thanks Gary! From someone who has watched SO much comparison vids between MacBook Pros, I loved the bias approach.
Apple:we made the a new generation of laptops,
Apple whispers:ᴵᵗ ʰᵃˢ ᵗʰᵉ ˢᵃᵐᵉ ʰᵃʳᵈʷᵃʳᵉ
Ordered one and it arrived a couple days ago, watching this video on it right now in fact. The only upgrade I got was 16 GB of RAM. I tried a practice export on Final Cut, a 4K clip and while the fans kicked up, it was still pretty powerful. I love the keyboard also. Highly suggest people go for this MacBook Pro.
I have Carpal tunel sice 14 years old (I'm 28 now) 🤷♀️ I do really need a comfortable keyboard.
I feel you, I get flareups of CPS whenever I’m not careful to not overuse my hands after first getting it 5 years ago in college. I’ve been using the slim Microsoft ergonomic keyboard.
Considering upgrading my MacBook Pro 13 2016 and watching your video really helped me make up my mind in purchasing this new version...thank you
Hey man, could you tell me what this MacBook is like on video/zoom calls.
I bought a Dell XPS years ago and it was a piece of crap the whole time I had it!
I second the comment above lol I’ve had it for 4 years and it’s utter shite
@@PleaseSeeHere yeah only the last few releases have been updated to be true ultrabooks. they are great now
Janet O Thanks for that feedback.

wow! this is a great video about the macbook pro 13 inch. i was debating weather or not i should get the air or the pro. i really enjoyed this video it gave me more reasons why i should lean to the pro more. definitely coming back to this video is 2 weeks bc thats when i will be getting it. thanks!
i bought the full spec one, 3 weeks of waiting. i have an macbook air 2013 model. so, i think it will be a good upgrade. doing all my work on a homebuild pc. but i prefer macs ios. love your vids! cya
I was going to get that one. But after this video I’m not sure
I ordered the full spec one also, well the i7 10th generation 1tb with 4 thunderbolt ports,. Most reviews I’ve seen say don’t get the base model. I have a 2011 13inch MacBook Pro so it will be a MAJOR upgrade for me
Luckily stumbled across your channel last week while looking for my 1st ever MacBook.
Going to get one on my birthday, but using my own money to pay for it 😂
Welcome to the adult life, my brother.
Will do the same, I don't want my parents to spend $1.5k on a laptop
@@pedromonteiro2644 bruh same lmfao
between this version and the M1 version, which should we consider?? Thank you!
m1 100%.
@@ddertien thanks bro
What about this vs the 16”?
Specifically for professional music production
You would probably need the more expensive 13 inch one. But the 16 inch one would definitely be great for that.
I have recently got the 16in MacBook Pro for the same purpose. I7 16gb ram 4gb gddr6 and 500gb space and it’s a POWER HOUSE
16 is big and expensive, I’d worry too much traveling with one😸
Just remember that the MacBook doesnt come with adapters. So your going to have to buy an adapter to plug ur mic in
Jas Singh I know, I bought a bunch in advance so I’m all set
Hey @The Everyday Dad .. Do you think we made a mistake buying this when the new ARM-based processors were just announced? Should we have waited?
but why get the cheapest version vs the other options!? That's literally the title of the video
I've got a mid-2012 15 inch Macbook Pro that I adore and still works fine, but I am shopping for a new baby. I've had this in my crosshairs for awhile, and now I know I'm getting this. 🧡
Thanks for this
Hopefully it helps out 👍
what do you think about upgrading to the 512gb of storage vs 256gb?
