- Hello guys and gals, it's me Mutahar again! This time we take a look at the Fallout TV show that just ended up dropping and while my expectations were very low it actually turns out the show has shattered any expectations and is a pretty shining example of how to turn a beloved video game into a television show properly. Thanks for watching!

Fallout isn't "the 1950's", it's "how the people of 1950's imagined the 2050's"
yeah, 1950s sci fi, like Forbidden planet, apperently there was a lot of sci fi in the 50s
Yeah, I mean the bombs were dropped in 2077 so that lines up.
ity's the same weird ideas.
Ummm...atckhually 🤓 👆
Yes actually.
It's a good show but another settlement needs our help, here, I'll mark it on your map

Im still annoyed how the turret missed the scientist while he was going at 2mph in ep2.

My favorite thing about the show is that it isnt a cinematic adaptation of fallout into a show, it's literally written as if a video game. The characters pause for choices and verify dialogue lines, healing is instant when it's taken, characters can be crippled but can still slowly walk as if normal but with a limp etc. The show isnt a show set in fallout the concept it's a show set in fallout the game.
Yes this, I love how Lucy talks like someone playing a high charisma build. Steps into violent situation, “ sir we can work this out.” 😂
i like how they got VATS
Fallout would be the best game to do this with tho. With the last of us for example it would be really weird. What i liked the most was the fact that they made an original story. Having played both last of us games, took a lot out of the enjoyment of watching the series.
@@martijnnvermeulen7515The Last of Us’ main gameplay is story and average gun combat, so there really are no game mechanics they could integrate in a special way for a show. With an RPG like Fallout, you’ve got dozens of quirks and features that come as a result of the game’s genre, as well as things like VATS that are really fun to implement in a show.
Also your point about the show not being a direct adaptation of the game is on point. I watched the show having never played the game, loved it, and will now proceed to never play the game and wait for the second season of the show for part two. There’s no reason to play it anymore because the story’s spoiled to me already.
Lol ummm ur looking way to into it….. ppl pause …. To think in real life …. Especially when thinking is about non stop crazy shiz that’s happening. And the cripples limp because it’s that or die …… but I envy whatever edibles you were on while watching to see it this way ✨
Today I was at a metro station and when I went to the main control center the place was covered in Fallout advertisements, the entrances were Fallout themed, the main control center was Fallout themed. Felt like if I left the station I would see a nuked city, but no I just found shit and piss

As stated by one of the original writers, Vault-Tek's reason for developing vaults with harsh expirements was so they could take the data from them to create a generational ship the survivors could use to leave the planet.

But Vault tec got nuked so the data will be useless and they can't send it

What a stupid comment… “The lore doesnt really matter its just fallout”
Like…? The lore is what makes these games what they are.
Yeah, thats how fictional worlds are built, if its inconsistent garbage than why bother with suspending your disbelief?
I care more about the story just being well told and vaguely close. I’d much rather have the lore be messed up than a boring awful story and bad writing where the lore is perfect.
Not really true man. This is like saying any fantasy based movie, show, or any form of media needs to follow the original lore of dnd. Like no it's an aesthetic. Clown.
@@RattusNorvegicuz Not only is this comparison dumb because DnD is more of a ruleset than anything, but because official media made for DnD actually follows their lore.
Media inspired by DnD is allowed to not follow it because THEY AREN'T DND.

12:40 - no, the reason we have New Vegas is because Zenimax caught Todd making Skyrim when he was supposed to be working on Fallout 4, so they decided if Todd wanted to make Skyrim so badly they'd bring in a different team to make the (in progress) Fallout 4 and renamed it to New Vegas.
It wasn't born of Todd's love, it was born of his neglect.
Don’t question Todd
So you are telling me the best thing he ever produced was when he was completely removed from the thing.
So if Todd didn't work on Skyrim, we wouldn't have New Vegas? Thank you, Todd!!!!!

I liked the way the way the characters sort of stumble upon things in the vaults and read terminal entries like the player would in the games and put all the pieces together. That is what Fallout is about, not just surviving in the wasteland but also figuring out why things went so badly in the Fallout universe in the first place. The characters are great too, nobody is really straight ''good'' or ''bad'' even though they are presented so at first, kind of like the video games. The lines of morality are blurred when safety is a not guaranteed for anyone.
Yes! Her brother was a lil btch at first. But I really connected with him as he went into 32! Gave me goosebumps how much it felt like your character snooping around and checking terminals to get a glimpse of context. 🖐️
@@Trampus10-4 When he was hacking into the Overseer's terminal I was shouting "select the brackets to eliminate bad passwords!"
The show did good with the vaults but fumbled the wasteland big time. I mean there was no inkling of civilization other than the little shanty town of filly. It’s like the new writers are allergic to letting humanity get back on its feet.
@@butterstotch3233Avellone wanted to nuke all of the factions too. It's not just the new writers as you say. Humanity can't move on unless Vault-Tek is eradicated this was even going to be the point of the Fallout movie. My favorite game is New Vegas so I get it I love the Post- apocalypse social studies as much as the next guy. But it's drilled into us that war never changes, plus we only see a small part of the wastes I mean Shady Sands was already dying in New Vegas if you listen to dialogue and the Heck Gunderson quest. The Hub is the capital of the NCR and the show literally ends with the CITYSCAPE of New Vegas looming in the distance, just give it time Bud.
@@edwinbrown7179 agreed. I think we will find out more of the NCR post New Vegas. The lore timeline doesn’t have much on the following years through F4 into TV series on the NCR. West coast factions haven’t been relevant since FNV. Leaving a lot to be introduced.
This show doesn't want to set the world on fire. It just wants to start a flame in everyone's heart.
Can we be best friends
I see what you did there!
You know, it's popular when your mom's telling you about it. I was on the phone with my mom and she was telling me that she's watching a show that she really likes. She was talking about how there was a nuclear war, and I was kind of half listening. Then she mentioned the vault people. I absolutely lost it 😂. You mean fallout, mom? Yeah! Have you watched it yet, she says😅
Vault-Tec's business is related with data collection and distribution (like most notable corporations in present day) so it's kind of obvious that the each vault is simply designed for a specific group of people to analyze and study when the experiments conclude and the remaining vault populations are thrown out in the wasteland to serve those same people that their ancestors signed their rights off to when they entered into the survival shelter program.
Except even more malicious and immoral. Vault-Tec's business I mean.
This show taught me that i have an invisible squire with me that changes out my fusion cores for my PA when playing the newer fallout games

Should just kick you out the costume, but then you couldnt sit in a costume powerless, no good tradeoff unfortunately

I remember as a 13 year old looking for borderlands 2 at a pawn shop, asked the cashier if New Vegas was similar to it, bought it and shit was gas
Goggins the actor played the Ghoul bounty hunter... Really takes the show for me.
Excellent casting call and this is the role he was meant to play...

Right, and if they do a Starfield show it can just be loading screens and camera glitches.
Don't forget loading screens that crash the game or freeze and need weird ass save manipulation or a mod
I seriously hope they update that dumpster fire of an engine enough before the next Fallout game. Or better yet make it on a new more modern engine.
The door guard (chetz I recall) at first episode when he hold on a while before opening up Vault 32 kind of satiring that loading times I guess
I can still remember my PS3 overheating and the game crashing 😂
The one thing that drives me nuts is that the BoS and the Enclave are in the show since the BoS wiped out the Enclave along with the survivor in fallout 2 and the BoS was wiped out by the NCR
They could have had so many other bunkers , norad for example , this is a seperate enclave unit , they where wayyyyy away from the wasteland ie all the snow so maybe in Canada? Or out east in the Sierras ?
Not exactly, in the ending slideshow of fallout new vegas, it's explained that any survivors outside of explosion at hidden Valley moved west to rejoin other chapters so the BOS was still out there
@@steel749the game has no concrete canon ending (because there hasnt been a west coast Fallout after that), even if we take ncr vegas as the canon, the mojave chapter could have a cease fire with ncr in exchange with supporting ncr with the dam.
And lost hills still pretty much active albeit laying low.
BoS wasn't wiped out by NCR, just forced into hiding. The writers of NV also mentioned there was a Chicago outpost for the enclave so they do still exist.
Both of what you said is incorrect. A small fledgling chapter of the BOS was forced underground by the NCR, the capital and eastern brotherhood are thriving. The enclave has been shown to still be around in the north and military outposts as shown in F76.
I’d love to see some cut creatures in the show like the wanamingo, giant rat, floater, or see the return of the OG designs for some monsters. I’d also love to see cut quest stories be implemented and cut locations
I agree with your sentiment but the cut stories and locations would be more of a new fallout game type of thing, floaters and wanamingos would probably look sick like the axolotl gulper did

I think the thing that confuses people about the Fall of Shady Sands is that they conflate it with Shady Sands being nuked, when it's probably more like a period of societal collapse (like the Fall of Rome) rather than a singular event.
Personally, I'm not sure the timeline really makes that much sense in that context anyway, because why would Hank wait so long to nuke Shady Sands, which he deems a threat to the existence of vaults 31, 32, and 33 (and Vault Tec itself), when he likely had access to the necessary means to deal with it in the late 70's (which is, presumably, when he originally visited) as one of Vault Tec's trusted employees. If someone has more on this that I'm missing, please let me know.

that´s actually me, i remember watching fallout 4 gameplays some years ago but i never could play them, right now i just bought fallout 3, new vegas and 4 on steam
Dude, I feel so conflicted on this. I'm a massive purist at heart, despite my best attempts, and this show is killing me, man. On one hand, I think it's really well-made, especially the fight scenes. On the other... it's weird they set this on the West Coast. This is definitely East Coast-Fallout, AKA, Bethesda Fallout.
For anyone not in the know: Fallout 1, 2, and New Vegas (just mentioning mainline games here) are all set in the West Coast, and have a significantly different aesthetic and level of civilization compared to Bethesda's East Coast Fallout. West Coast Fallout is, essentially, post-post apocalypse, while Bethesda Fallout is just post apocalypse. Being objective, it's totally fine to prefer one or the other, but my main gripe is that the show is apparently canon, even though it contradicts the part of Fallout that Todd and the boys should have absolutely no say in, seeing how it's not their brainchild.
TLDR: This should've been set on the East Coast, and probably quite a bit earlier in the timeline, IMO.
I don't think it contradicts, I think its more that it makes people's actions meaningless, especially for those who played FNV, theres a reason why they try keep the canon vague, otherwise people disagree and it makes their choices invalid. Except for anti-NCR bois or Legion, they'll be fine. And the fact that they just trying to make it anarchy wasteland just like with the east coast, even though there should be some form of an organised civilisations fighting for control due to the amount of time since the war
It's shown that there was a major settlement in the area but was blown sky high, plus the theme of humanity eating itself time and time again could explain the lack of smaller communities as it's set even further in the future than NV so who knows what happened, if anything. Tbh I think that there are still big settlements but the shows budget and time limit didn't allow for them to show the world around the main story.
My biggest issue is how the close to portray the brotherhood and how they mad max a knight. Also making a drug that keeps ghouls from turning feral.
I mean a lot of fallout 1 and 2 is set in shanty towns or people living in the ruins of things just like bethesda
@@bajscast Yeah, but compare them. Look at Shady Sands in F1. That settlement is almost entirely built from scratch, with adobe huts and whatnot. Even places like Junktown have a lot more going on, the buildings don't literally have skeletons and corpses next to where people sleep and trade.

This show was surprisingly good, which is kinda sad because good should just be the norm but here we are
Keep in mind that this is just the first season. Let's not get our hopes up TOO FAST. Remember what happened to the Halo TV show.
The NCR capital was moved from Shady Sands to the Hub in 2277 because of the water and cattle barons.
Once that happened Shady Sands pretty much became a backwater town with little to no influence and it’s only importance was being the founding town.
This is explicitly stated in Fallout New Vegas’ quests revolving around Heck Gunderson and other NCR quests including the Westside “missing water” quest in addition to all the dialogue about how corrupt and “long dick’d” the NCR has gotten from Rose of Sharon Cassidy.
YEP AND DAGGERFALL IS THE HUB FOR RPG PLAYERS NOW LETS ALL VOTE PUTIN
But that's literally never stated the capital and legislative capital is Shady Sands also I think the show forgot that Shady sands is distinct and different from Boneyard which is LA but I guess asking guys to double check anything they write or produce is hard after all they missed 2277 when it probably was supposed to be 2287 also I ask where is the NCR army that was based in SOCAL it should exist or at least a successor even without Shady Sands but I guess for Bethesda a generally Morally good faction that isn't armed with pipe rifles isn't cannon in their view also this even ignores how the rangers disappeared despite it being a different organization vs the NCR military
The truth that a lot of NV fanboys simply can't accept is that the game was rushed and the lore isn't perfectly consistant. Any Fallout story taking place after 2281 on the west coast would have needed to make some changes to established lore and I think the TV show handled the changes pretty well while respecting NV's lore.

I've been a fan of the games since the first Fallout and so I watched the entire series in one sitting. I was really impressed with how well they did with the show. As far as adaptations to tv from a video game goes, this one ticks all the boxes. I'm really looking forward to season 2.
Why do I get the feeling that by “the first Fallout” you mean Fallout 3, the first Bethesda Fallout, because this show is a fucking mess that doesn’t have the grim tone of the old games and instead feels like Bethesda-land, it doesn’t have the dark comedy of the Black Isles game’s and instead is just wacky Fallout 4 shit, and it basically retcons 1, 2, and Nv with the destruction of Shady Sands in 2277 and acting like the NCR was just some minor flipnote.

I'm pretty sure the Vault Tech conspiracy was hinted at in the games. There's a few videos about it on here. Kinda cool they're bringing that little, hard to find aspect of the game into the show.
Exactly, there's multiple lore videos on YT alluding to Vault Tec launching the first nuke

It's a good show, but implying that Vault-tec somehow started the war is hella dumb. The vaults were developed for experimentation, not for profit.

Small spoiler:
I really liked how they showed the deathclaw skull at the end of season 1 before that shot overlooking New Vegas. Obviously everyone was hoping to see a deathclaw at some point in the show, and I feel like that was their way of saying “we know…don’t worry…you’ll get to in time.” Shows that they’re on the same page as fans of the games. They care about how, when, and why the characters will encounter certain creatures rather than just saying “look, it’s that thing from the games!”
Lets be real, Lucy only just got to a high enough level to even be able to consider fighting a Deathclaw at the end of season 1.
That sounds like desperation.

We are so hungry for good tv or movie.Hollywood take notice.
I always took that fallout was a game that had the story of the west and the story of the East, now I know they pulled characters and factions from one side to the other and that's all fine. but Honestly this show feels like a Fallout4 and 3 with references to the story set in the West of the country. This game always felt like you had the story of the east and the story of the west, I could be misremembering cause its been so long.
This show is just not for me, I remember spending so much time learning about fallout lore because of new vegas, and only really was interest on the lore of the West. So fallout 1,2 and New vegas. I Still remember how a few years ago, like 7 to 8 years after New Vegas came out, people where debating about who Should win the War, or the battle, over Hoover Dam. Its fucking Insane how New vegas, for some, managed to cast a shadow on all the other titles. The TV show is nice, but its a fallout bethesda Tv show, the NCR the biggest fucking faction in the Lore, the story, just gone in 10 years? RIP.
Nah fuck that shit, its a nice show, I kinda get what they going with, but it just doesn't have what I want. and the most recent fallouts are also some of the most popular so i get they want to reference those more. I mean its been many years since a fallout on the west coast has been a thing. Honestly they should have made the show take place in the east coast. Thats my only complain.
this show made me miss the good old days where I came back from school after a fun day (when I still had them) and I would seat in front of my tv and play fallout 4 and explore every little corner of the map until it was dinner time, good times

Vault tec is the enclave, Mutah. That’s what you’re not realizing.
They laid it out in the show- they wanted to monetarily profit off of the prewar, and then culturally and socially profit by wiping out the surface.
Seeing the mutants hand while the gurney rolls by was cool

I was in the same boat as you...very sceptical, expectations through the floor. However, it turned out to be a great recreation of a the franchise. I saw an interview with Ella Purnell (Lucy), and she said she played all of the games as her research for the role. That's so good to hear and exactly want fandoms want. There is a growing trend in films and tv shows that there seems to be an active effort to p*ss off the core fanbase of 'X' franchise. They give these things to people that actively dislike the source material, perfect example being the director of the Witcher series, she actually admitted it. Fallout is a fantastic example of fan service tied in with an appeal to the wider audience.
I didn’t really play the games so I have no attachment to the franchise. I am like three episodes in. For me, the TV show was just OK. I thought they did do a good job of catching me up on the backstory. I never really felt lost, which is sometimes a problem when I watch a show with a ton of backstory. I did love the look of the show. The Metal Armor guy is kind of the weakest storyline. It shows that the armor has a lot of vulnerabilities, and these guys should stay in groups.
Binged the whole show in one sitting. Was very good and got invested in all the plot points. Was very different from what i expected in a good way.

Wow, didn't know there is a TV show, and it sounds like it's actually good. Thanks for the rec!
This show is good enough to stand on its own merits.
The fact that it follows the source material very well is just a bonus.
Didn’t follow the source material 😂
Shady sands shouldn’t be destroyed
HAHAHA😂. No it doesn't, on both the merits and the lore.
I just finished binge watching the season and.... Wow
Same as Muttah my expectations were super low and i was pleasantly surprised...
I really like the way the show is basically like the games, where the main quest is almost forgettable and everything happens in side quest, especially the Vault 4 part which felt like a companion quest with a choice at the end for the outcome after you got the loot
Haha I had the exact same feeling. I also thought the characters were basically different builds. Gunslinger, diplomat and warrior.
Coop explaining to Lucy (after the head is devoured by the Xotlotl Gulper) that its the rule of the wasteland, there is always a distraction, a detour… I thought, oh, you cheeky devils, it’s so true… its subtle things too, like squires being completely over encumbered as companions while the knight in his armor could effortlessly carry everything they’ve got… these things kinda made me snicker too as a fan.
So I gotta ask Muta, have you watched the Cyberpunk: Edgerunners show? It's deserves about 3/4 of the credit for the Cyberpunk revival (the other quarter is the devs bringing out Phantom Liberty, adding content and fixing bugs, but hype often overrides hard work.) Or are you not even interested in the game?
Fallout 3 and NV were both highly rated. F04 is when they crapped the bed.
Also fallout lore says vault tec are actually planning to colonize space! And the vaults underground were experiments for them to gather data
One of the best shows in recent memory and an excellent adaptation of the game. I watched the entire series in two days.

Probably the only show that had my attention in the last a few years. Binged it, which is rare for me and it’s pretty spot on as far as the game atmosphere. Very refreshing and not at all what I expected.
I'm halfway through the series and really like it. You can tell it's made by people who really hace respect for the original material.

YEAH! I mean, it makes sense in the story, but they should have changed the timeline 10 years into the future, even 5 would have sufficed. Nuking Shady Sands in 2277 just destroys New Vegas canon. They did change the base lore of the whole franchise by indicating the US forced the nukes via Vault-Tec and had nothing to do with the Chinese which sounds like current day intervention.
It wasn't previously established who first dropped the bombs, so what lore did that change? Many people for decades have been speculating that it was Vault-Tec anyway, so this was a pretty safe revelation to commit to.
