Like :" Hey i'll buy you a new phone if you send me pics" then the blackmailing starts. A shame there are so many depraved individuals willing to pay for this kind of stuff.
I think the saddest part is how young some of the people who consume this type of stuff are, like 13-15. No wonder they grow up to do heinous acts. It starts with curiosity and ends in depravity. @@Robbie-mw5uu Glad you do that and I agree that the internet should be only for adults. Came across some really disturbing stuff even when googling the most harmless stuff. Sadly this doesn't prevent it either; especially once kids get older and hang out with other people. And then there is "social contagion". They see what other kids do, or even become friends with the wrong kind of people. And also agree that schools suck too! Beside SA, there is also violence. Heard that people experience the most violence in their lives during their years in school (and someone that got bullied I can talk from experience here). And most of the stuff we learn there is useless and indoctrination. I think it is mostly a societal problem. Notice over the time people have become more aggressive and stressed.

The part that really infuriates me is the fact that the main guy responsible (Cho Ju-Bin) got 42 years in prison, which was 3 years less than what he was given in the first trial, which was already much less than the life sentence the prosecution was aiming for. That's way too light imo. Compared to the lifelong trauma and suffering he inflicted upon his victims
It is a major problem in Korea. The punishments are too light. People are always calling for it to be more severe. And I feel like its being reaching a breaking point recently.
I've known about this situation, thanks for covering it, too. And sure, YT is a bit centric at times, so it's good creators like you touch on what happens on other corners of the world.
No matter what social or religious differences countries may have, every country can at least agree that exploiting children is wrong and should work together at stopping things like this.
For the opening spiel, I feel like the CLEAR net has become its own rabbit hole for a lot of people, because most people just browse the same few websites, plus storefront sites. Just browsing outside of algorithms is becoming a lost art in itself, and a lot of the sites & communities on the surface Web just stay unknown now because they're outside of the social media & commercial spheres. There are a bunch of Web forums out there like Agora Road or Cloudy Skies or Brahkie Boards that live like they're outside of people's reach, just because people don't really surf the Web anymore. You have like the sites on Tilde Town & NekoWeb, people link from indie-web spots like Neocities or Melonland that just lead you down a rabbit hole, or even old UA-cam videos like the VSauce "Do Online Now Guys" series just lead to places people don't really make the effort to find anymore. The people interested in dark Web browsing are probably growing that same sort of distance from the surface Web, so I think this type of thing can branch out from being solely about dark-Web finds.

The worst and absolutely most horrifying part of these rooms is the Mothers/Fathers that share ''content'' of their own children.... Some people just dont deserve to procreate
Should note that these sick people didn’t target any minor. They targeted the already unstable ones, so these minors also didn’t want to tell their parents when they did realize they got blackmailed. That’s why it took longer to discover these rooms

I use to browse with the dark web with TOR as well when I was a freshman in college (very long time ago) and also cause out of curiosity. And Red Rooms were one of the craziest myths back then. I didn't stumble into one, fortunately because I gotta admit, the hearsay about red rooms is just crazy. Even just thinking about it is making me sick to my stomach.
Watched a documentary once called PDF next door. They interviewed one of the detectives whose job it is to trawl through the hard drives of these people. Tens and tens of thousands of images and videos, and she had to label them on a basis of severity and trying to Identify these kids. I couldn’t even imagine the horrors she would be witnessing. She pointed out that some of these vids were dated 10 plus years old. These poor kids have been where they are, suffering god knows what for 10+ years and they’re still anonymous. Thousands and thousands of them. It’s just horrific.
I'm pretty sure there's a website for normal people to help identify children in videos or images like that, pretty sure I seen it on this channel even.. Yeah that sounds like a horrible job to do, going through images or videos like that...
I see a lot of people recommending the rotten mango video's about this topic. I watched them when they came out and they were pretty shocking. So after watching I did some searching online and found out the numbers in the videos (and title too) are way off. So just a heads up. I don't think they're the best when it comes to fact checking.

It’s truly horrific what was done to the victims of the nth rooms. Anything mentioned in this video is only the tip of the iceberg. I would recommend the videos from rotten mango if you want to know the specifics, she also gives some cultural context.
That stuff is terrifying. My kids can't install anything with me approving it first. One day my daughter's phone sent me a notification for an app. I was busy so i just gave it a quick once over it was rated E looked okay. I approved it and decided I'd look more later on. When I took her phone for the evening later I looked at it and the game had a social aspect and she was just being bombarded by creeps asking if she had a Snapchat.
You have to put the whole thing into perspective. South Korea has only 50 million citizens. That means, 200.000 users in those rooms is almost 1 in 200. And they never really prosecuted the users. Just imagine that. You know exactly that 1 out of 200 people was involved in this. And if you assume that most users were men and men make up only half the population, that means roughly 1 out of 100 men was involved. And they just still walk around free. No one knows who they are, and law enforcement just doesn't care.
Thank you for spreading awareness over this topic, bc it has been repeated in multiple ways in other parts of the world, especially since were in the digital era of the world, there will be more cyber crimes like this to exist.
Vulnerable teenage runaways who clearly are in need of help and this is what happens over and over. God this makes me sad. Kudos to everyone who investigated all of this. I can't IMAGINE the things they've seen...
Have you seen one of the recent posts on your subreddit? It is about a child exploitation ring here on UA-cam by Filipino "gaming" channels. It reminds me a lot of this story, about how that horrid content is easily accessible on the clear web. I agree it's pretty terrifying.
And this utter insanity is becoming more common as peoples "appetites" as sick and foul as that sounds, become more and more extreme. Reports from a similar case (Listen to Darknet Diaries Episode 131 (heavy content warning)) had these guys starting on pretty vanilla stuff and upping the ante until nothing could get them off anymore expect stuff like this. There is edgy shit on the internet, and there is inhumane in the purest sense of the world. I don't need to tell you what category this case and similar ones fall into.
Without the context, "forced them to eat bacon" is such a strange phrase to hear as an american. "Don't you dare wrap that around a jalapeño filled with cream cheese. Nooooo!"
I saw the two-part series of this case from Stephanie Soo (Rotten Mango). She did a great job covering the details and humanizing the journalists, victims and authorities who were subjected to their atrocities. I highly recommend her series on this if anyone else is interested. She also has a team of Korean translators to better contextualize sources. Not saying this video isn’t great. It is. Rotten Mango just wemt further in debt if this video intrigued you and you want to learn more.
Thank you thank you thank you SO MUCH for talking about this!! "The human animal is a beautiful and terrible creature, capable of limitless compassion and unfathomable cruelty." A quote I always think of when watching videos like these.
This happens in Brazil on Telegram and Discord. They call it "panelinha" (not the only meaning of this word) here. One guy doing stuffs like that was nicknamed King and he got arrested a while ago. There is a guy called Mistério TV that investigate and persecute people that does that.
i remember when the SK gov took action on nth room, and it was before even nth room got in to the eyes of public through journalist that i started hearing rumors about "The Rooms" that existed not only in SK or JP even in multiple other countries and as the rooms are partial online or aren't even online it's near impossible to track them though internet. Also the red rooms does exists, they don't operate how people think though there are so many myths attached to them, i haven't heard about HD streaming ones as that's probably a myth, but there might exist some with low quality streams, the ones i've heard about is "personalized videos" or "commission" under a time limit if you know what i mean, yes it is that bad I forgot to mention its not limited to SK or JP, it exists nearly everywhere in the world
Japan and South Korea are a heaven for PDF Files, it's everywhere. Can't ride on a single bus without a dude not keeping his hands by himself, same with schools and other public facilities.
Something similar to red rooms existed on the clearnet back in the early 2000's, but what it involved just gets filtered by UA-cam if you try and explain it. Think more on the gratification side of the spectrum than the suffering side of the spectrum and you might kinda figure out what I mean. Would be 24 hour livestream shows with loud speakers blasting TTS comments to the performers, it got pretty extreme. From what I remember what they were doing wasn't illegal but the feds told them to cut it out and they stopped producing content.
i never really thought abt it but it does make sense the most illlegal stuff happening are on popular chat messaging apps bcs theres no fear of like clicking a malware its just something on the getgo

My stepdaughter's personal information got leaked on Telegram last week by some guy who didn't get what he want. People even showed up to our house. But good luck talking some sense into kids these days, it's really hard. 😂 In my country, but I expect it happens everywhere there's a ton of these so called 'expose' groups around with thousands of members, mostly frustrated young men from a certain cultural background, I know that's risky to say these days but It's obvious and true so I think it should be called out as it is. Anyway, they terrorize mostly minors and if they get what they wanted or they didn't, it doesn't really matter, they just dump their personal details in one of those chats. It's a big problem over here right now and it pisses me off big time.

I caught a couple of your vids and watched them, and others, because I had never really been on the dark web much. You appeared to be informative in a good way so I subscribed to watch when I could. I guess there is a lot of decent and good sites/info but obviously it's full of some of the most vile crap imaginable. For about 20 years I worked in a prison facility that housed the 980 law commitments. Also called the sexually violent predator law. It was a law passed to keep predators, who were deemed dangerous, incarcerated indefinitely. Even though their sentences was completed. And it continues to be a good thing. A very good thing. Keep up the good and thanks for keeping your eyes open and reporting some of the truly abhorrent behaviors and people that society has to suffer. Although I find politicians and and news sources, and the lies they tell to essentially brainwash the masses to support policy that serves only the goal of the concentration of wealth to the tenth of the one percent. And the nefarious tactics they use to get there. Which sadly is right before our eyes and likely too late to stop. The curious, who actually do their own homeworks and not owned by Fox or CNN etc and get their fodder from news sources owned by the tenth of the one percent, might take advantage of watching Noam Chomsky's Requiem For The American Dream. In which he outlines the reasons for that agenda and the 10 principles they are using to get them there. A few of them are; Keepintg the masses in a state of economic uncertainty to make us likely likely to create problems for them. Obviously happening and more evident everyday by prices being inflated for no real reason and wages stagnating. While huge profits and bonuses are made for the big companies. #2 Keeping the masses fighting amongst ourselves to keep focus off them. Kind of hard to miss that one. #3 Killing workers unions. #4 Slowly getting rid of true democracy. And when you think it all started with Citizens United and allowing money to buy politicians and policy and the fact that politicians have no interest in getting rid of it anymore while they all take advantage of quickly filling their coffers by allowing their own little insider trading groups and making policy to fit their interests. You can begin to see that they are all helping facilitate the goal of the super wealthy. If you have doubts just Google some searches about the net worth of the shysters and how much faster they are filling their coffers and how. I have thought that I would see the human race progress to one that is founded on love and benevolence. Like the thing you see in a SyFy movies with some alien million year old culture that actually loves and cares for each other. But sadly I won't even see a baby step towards that goal. We seem to regress more and more. It leaves me thinking that for a supposedly sentient species we must be one of the worst in the entire universe. The obscene things we do to each other, the planet and anything that stands in our way for greed, religion, property, jealousy and any of the other causes that has propagated unnecessary pain and suffering to countless souls, and this planet, for much too long. For me its just damn heartbreaking.
I've heard about this for awhile, it's insane to me how stuff like this happens. I hate that people use really useful technology like telegram to do stuff like this.
People seem to be saying "It always happens in korea" or something along those lines, but the fact of the matter is that they just take the allegations seriously and pursue them. Depraved shit like this happens all the time in the state and law enforcement agencies don't bat an eye. If I remember correctly Italy had something VERY similar. I think in fact it was related to the Nth room
I think the saddest part is how young some of the people who consume this type of stuff are, like 13-15. No wonder they grow up to do heinous acts. It starts with curiosity and ends in depravity. This is why I'd be a total hawk of a mom when I have kids, I'm not going to let the internet in all it's disgusting glory mold my child. Change starts with the next generation and if this trend of feeding kids brain slop doesn't stop we're gonna have this happen more and more...

@@Robbie-mw5uu Glad you do that and I agree that the internet should be only for adults. Came across some really disturbing stuff even when googling the most harmless stuff.
Sadly this doesn't prevent it either; especially once kids get older and hang out with other people. And then there is
"social contagion".

Gotta appreciate muta bringing attention to these things not many other commentary do.

Also the red rooms does exists, they don't operate how people think though there are so many myths attached to them, i haven't heard about HD streaming ones as that's probably a myth, but there might exist some with low quality streams, the ones i've heard about is "personalized videos" or "commission" under a time limit if you know what i mean, yes it is that bad
I forgot to mention its not limited to SK or JP, it exists nearly everywhere in the world
Japan and South Korea are a heaven for PDF Files, it's everywhere. Can't ride on a single bus without a dude not keeping his hands by himself, same with schools and other public facilities.
Something similar to red rooms existed on the clearnet back in the early 2000's, but what it involved just gets filtered by UA-cam if you try and explain it.

What's crazy is these types of groups and people exist everywhere you go; any website or social media app that has private chats will have poeople who distribute cp and spycam vids, it just never gets big enough to be noticed ,and when they do they get taken down;abd the people involved rarely get recognized or prosecuted. And they always just create new accounts and do it all over again.
I remember learning about the Nth Room thanks to Rotten Mango which i recommend anyone to watch when they have the time. The impact of the Nth room and the reaction from governing bodies as well as ordinary people were massive.
yanno, the radical feminist movement in S KR started making sense when shits like this happens.
most of the users go unpunished. slow police response. men distributing materials involving his own wives and daughters.
My friend and I used to talk over Telegram because she is a very private person online. The shit that people do on these apps is wild.
Always follow the money, never trust the internet, exercise your judgment more than your curiosity.
You really think someone would do that? Just go on the Internet and tell lies?
As someone who almost got killed and filmed by some dudes dressed up like clowns when I was younger and in a really bad situation, I can assure you that those types of movies really do exist
