Never had a problem in Scotland but discovered it was an issue when I went to Bristol once and had to turn on the demister to drop the engine temp. Only rust I had was under the bonnet which with a wire brush and rattle can it was fixed. Had it for about 18 months and got 500 for it. The dealer scrapped it. When the model was current I bought a LHD mk3 Cortina thinking I could swap everything to RHD but the scuttle was completely different which was odd because the Taunus was sold for LHD markets. Same thing with Essex V6's from Zodiac/Capri/Granada; where oil sump reversed to fit X member the pump mounting changed as well so you couldn't interchange between different models.

The spraying finish leaves much to be desired as it is orange pealy and the colour looks out its darker. When I was spraying these cars the colour usually needed blending to match and they were starting to be base and lacquer.
@dsdek72 I was working in a Ford dealership as a panel beater and sprayer ( served my time as a sprayer in a for main dealer ) I would have been ashamed to have turned out anything like that finish when I was in the trade. We did use blending clear back in the day when cellulose was the king as ford ha so many variant shades. I can honestly say I would not have worked for 32 years in the trade if I turned out work like they did on the paint.
Had one back in the 90s cristle blue 112000 on the clock when I got it it was mint kept it for years petrol tank filler came away from body in the end what a car 😂
I disconnected the automatic choke but it meant I had to open the bonnet each time and set the choke in place prior to starting. It would still kick off, sometimes I would have to floor it to kick the choke off. The issue was the car would just die because the automatic choke stayed on and would make the engine die.
Love the show but that paintwork on the bonnet...OMG!

@@procta2343 yep loads of people just think "yeah i bet its easy to make a mk2 or mk1 escort RHD", all because of these people importing the LHD african imports
@@thedeadstig123 sometimes people don't research at all and just think, its just a bolt off and swop process, then go a head do what these lads did , and then realise its not as simple, and it turns out to be more in depth job, to the point its more of a hassle plus expensive.
@@thedeadstig123But they import from South Africa because they have right hand drive cars too, just like when people chose to import from Malta ( think Malta must be dried up pretty much now hence they moved on to South Africa now) I know there’s shady things going on with that too as even on eBay right now there is an obvious South African car that has the ID stollen from a mk1 I sold 10 years ago in need of restoration, I guess breaking a car that needs too much work and cloning it’s ID onto an import is a thing to avoid all the paperwork , very dodgy practice which makes you even more wary of the rwd escort boom market of the last while
thats really common, you see it with these series land rover imports too
lots of old log books floating about for scrapped cars, they just make a new vin plate and put it on a import@@gimble447
The spraying finish leaves much to be desired as it is orange pealy and the colour looks out its darker. When I was spraying these cars the colour usually needed blending to match and they were starting to be base and lacquer.
Solid colour from the factory mate. Worked at a ford bodyshop at the time. If I had turned that out I wouldn't have worked there for long.
Had one back in the 90s cristle blue 112000 on the clock when I got it it was mint kept it for years petrol tank filler came away from body in the end what a car 😂
the orange peel on that bonnet is horrendous
Rattle Can Rodgers 😂
Great video but one thing you forgot to do,the front wings side indicators🙏🙏🇬🇧🇬🇧
This car to me is like the sister to the 1980s vw Jetta
Good comedy this show😊
Orange peel bonnet 😂
Dont take up pannel beating 😂
Ah the Q plate cars of the 9ts remember them well, Q is for Quick 😂😂👍 👀
Man, these boys are rough 😅
Did anyone see that there were no dustcaps on the wheels..... after it was painted white.
Bro thought he was RHD swapping an SD1 😂
I had an Orion, great car, once I changed the automatic choke for a manual one
I disconnected the automatic choke but it meant I had to open the bonnet each time and set the choke in place prior to starting. It would still kick off, sometimes I would have to floor it to kick the choke off. The issue was the car would just die because the automatic choke stayed on and would make the engine die.
@@chrishart8548 Same problems I had, the conversion wasn't cheap, but it saved a lot of bad language!
austin rover made it easy lol
No dust caps on the valves😂😂😂
Never mind the steering column bracket, nobody mentioned the need to change the pedal box. That would not be easy with the engine in situ!
No dust covers on the valve stems and why did they not put the old wheels on the donor car.
It's a Portuguese Car :) Just saw the licence plate. It's just the same as one I had...
