I have one of these except mine is a TD4. The car is seldom in 4 wheel drive mode due to how the viscous coupling works. It is quite ingenious. The car only goes into 4 wheel drive when it needs to. All done automatically and mechanically. No fancy electronics. This is why it's a myth that if you remove the prop and make it permanent 2 wheel drive, you save money on fuel.
Hi y'all. I'm learning how to work all this stuff on UA-cam. I don't want to step on or better yet infringe on someone's property (toes) if you know what I mean. My Husband CAN'T get enough of these shows. He can't wait for the new episodes of Flippin Bonnets... Oops I meant Flippin Bangers.. LMAO. We do LOVE the shows. God Bless. ❤❤ Tracy & Roger
I have a 5 door ES, a year older than this one, with 84000 miles on it. Admittedly its the Bmw 2 litre diesel auto, so its not the quickest, but I'll never get rid of it. Brilliant cars. Also, Boiled Linseed Oil is so much better to bring the trim back to life. Its cheap, feeds oil back into the plastic, and lasts for months. Its safer and environmentally friendly too.
I think they write the advert first to add a little pressure on themselves to fix it within 5 days. It also adds interest for the viewer's, Great guys, brilliant show.
Yeah so it shows its more a SHOW than real life , who would ever write a add for something that's not road worthy, no MOT just not finished. " (Buyer) Hi I am ringing up about the Land rover very interested in buying it, can I come and have look please ,(seller) Well No it not finished and no mot ,(buyer) ok forget it" Real world and a common problem with those engines they are prone for the Head Gasket going
I think the 'gambit' for the show is that they do that so they have to get their finger out and do the necessary to move it on in a short time-frame. Otherwise they'd be restoring them to perfection
Love this show, really down to earth couple of guys. Unlike other shows they try to fix them on a budget after they've had their cup of tea that is. These two aren't stupid that's for sure. Really enjoyed this episode.
Bought back memories of a 1.6 litre Vitesse convertible and comparing it years later with an MG TF115 which was light years better. Amazing how the Spitfire survived all these years and being easily repaired to mot standards. A pure example of open-top motoring where you can drive through our lovely countrside at 50mph and enjoying the experience.
My mouth watered when I saw those Cornish pasties. Getting harder to find these days in Australia generally but fortunately they’re still a common item in bakeries, cafes, corner shops, etc, in South Australia.
Best Pasty I've ever eaten in South Australia was from the Strathalbyn Bakery in the hills. Not sure if it was a Cornish Pasty but it was absolutely awesome.

There's a place that sells them in Mesa, Arizona. The owners are from Cornwall.
You have to fit a new viscous coupling to these, else there is no point putting the prop shaft back on, there is no reliable easy way to test it. Also just having new tyres on the back and worn ones on the front or the opposite is enough to destroy the IRD.
I learned something from you guys, borrowed a heat gun, and restored the rubber inserts on my BMW E30 bumpers. I loved your show and would like to see it make a comeback.
I once got offered one of these for £200 with the same K Series engine. There was evidence of past coolant leaks so I was suspecting a K Seal type repair so I passed on it. I'd definitely consider one today as a project but I would do the head gasket if there's no eveidenced of it having been done.
This is nothing more than entertainment. They will never be making a profit on any if their old bangers, not even if they worked for nothing (which they already are, really)
Love anything like this but if you really want to see people throwing money away watch "Bangers & Cash: Restoring Classics" really funny, the buyers get a bargain
Had this on my mums 2017 Renault Scenic, but the sensor was in more of an hidden location, took my mechanic a good 2 hours as it was tucked under the egr
Unless you are planning to replace the tires, before removing the wheels mark the direction of travel, so they can be put back to rotate in the same direction. Those jack stands don't look too sturdy either.
my wife has had her freelander 1 1800 for 24 years it is 26 years old a 1998 the only problem she has had is the cylinder head gasket as did a lot of lotus cars as it is same engine but we had it done properly head skimmed and the new three ply gasket since then nothing the prop has never been taken off although i noticed it may want the centre carrier bearings done my freelander is a 2006 td4 auto and the prop is still on that there are so many myths about like taking the prop off for economy which it does not make any difference although i have to change my seat cover of which i have very good second hand ones it does look to me as though the cylinder head gasket as been a problem at some point as the header tank as the remnants of the oil on the inside .thank you very much for the video
i may have fitted the original wheels onto this car as i worked for the company that fitted tyre to wheel for all the land rover/ranger rover cars back in the early 00's
Need more flipping bangers when is season 4 out that’s if they are still doing the show I would love to meant these two 2 of the best blokes on tv/amazon in my opinion
a lot of work on that dent for such a small area and a lot of paint mixed/wasted but it must be basecoat with no clear over it and it will soon look different to the rest of car
I struggle to understand that they call this Business. They are clearly not making proper money on their work hours. Ofc if the channel takes off the income from YT can give them a stronger income. And I never understood why these youtubers dont wash a car underneat before cracking on with their repairs. 😵💫 However - I really enjoyed the video. ❤️❤️❤️ Well done and its always good to be a «couch mechanic» looking at others doing a great work with an old banger. Kudos to the dent guy as well! Proper skills.
Still soldiering on with my utter rat-box of a 2003 5DR 1.8L K Series Masai Mara (red), which I bought for £400 seven years ago. So far, its cost more in tax per year than repairs. Yeah the plastic exteriors got to crap, but shoe polish will fix that.
mobile body man did a great job, but it looks like it could have been repaired using paintless dent removal in my opinion. Would the PDR be cheaper than the fill and spray? I can't say.
yeah most of these were binned off for that, the Kseries engine is expensive to fix. I was into 600 quid and that was me sending the head away and me doing the headgasket, got the very latest stuff though. I think by the time i was sorted coolant oil and other odd and sods, i was into a £1000
Carefull folks ! The 1.8L K series petrol engine is too under powered for the weight of the car. The head gaskets normally blow and that leads to further issues. My K series is a 2000model and I have kept a check on the coolent level for 5years, yes its pissing out. You can fit a 235 R17/15 direct onto the rims without spacers, the factory fitted tyres are for school runs. Yes the body and chasis are of good standard, so very few rust away. ---- My service I did was a distributor, battery and Oil/air fitres and Oil. ---- Dont expect this car to pull over 80mph, they were built aa a pose and not work horse. For some strange bloody reason I love my Free Lander. ÖÖ ÖÖ
Wow!...thats pretty sarcastic... Why do you take all this little "so eriously"... no one...or two...are perfect...every time... So if they have to reduce the price to get it sold... Amen to that...
Like any in that range with the K Series engine....buy the diesel instead. Rover could never be bothered sorting out the head gasket problem. It was fine if you changed the gasket along with the timing belt every 50 thousand.
32:31 Freelander, Series1, 3 door van, not seen many of them about or for sale. Looks like it might be a TD4, which had the BMW engine and drive chain for a timing belt. Main gripe I had with the latter, was the accursed and extremely naff vertical battery terminal connections. Response to video only.
yeah tax expired and mot ran out 24th of november this year. Looking at it, it must have just scraped through the last one it had. So either these lads just say managed to get it through and someone bought it for a year runner and binned it off by the looks of it.
I brought a Freelander back in 2003 from Land Rover of Albuquerque and that was a big mistake. This was the biggest POS I ever drove. It had an order of burning oil coming out of the AC vents. The sunroof kept on breaking and the transmission blew with only 25 K on it. Thank God I had an extended warranty on it... At that time it cost over $ 6000 to replace the transmission. The last straw it couldn't pass emissions. I traded it back to the Land Rover dealership for a used Toyota Highlander and that was the best thing I did. I will never buy any Land Rover let alone any car made in the UK...
I never understand. The British have the MOT system. The car doesn't currently have a MOT, but obviously had to have one the previous year ?? So how can it deteriorate so much in merely one year ??
Well about 900 to get it to the lot + wages for 2 men for 1 week = 1020. therefore breakeven about 2000 pound. Profit comes from UA-cam. Still, its entertaining and they would of helped someone. Cheers guys
I like that these two generally show how not to make a profit.
Entertaining all the same.
I have one of these except mine is a TD4.

I dont understand why they write the ad for the car before theyve even looked the car over properly let alone driven it on the road hahaha
Me neither, what if someone calls to come take a look at it and they say it's not ready, that would put me off.
Yeah so it shows its more a SHOW than real life , who would ever write a add for something that's not road worthy, no MOT just not finished.

entertainment. but more setup that wheeler dealers lol
If it wasn’t so scripted this would be a lot better of a watch

Wow the body guy great to see a professional on the show
Thank you for uploading this. Shame it's not on Discovery anymore. Love the show.
Keeping these cars going is an essential service your providing for low incomes needing a good running vehicle , well done lads love the vids
Mache dies seit 50 jahre.

Car-Wizard Bristol did a great job on the wing repair
Best series ever, very informative and likeable, down to earth blokes, roll on the next episode🔜
I love these 2 and their honest approach
Nice to see them back
Watching all that are uploaded
That mobile bodywork guy did an insanely good job… a joy to watch!
Nowadays they just use PDR.
You guys definitely need to invest in a 2 post lift!!!
And a working toilet.
With the profits they are making, they can't afford a 2 post lift.
They don’t do it for profit as they aren’t making any 😐.
You obviously haven't watched many of these then..
Unbelievable
Favorite moment was when you made the hammer molds for the front headlights/ grill opening. Inspirational work!
Love this show, really down to earth couple of guys. Unlike other shows they try to fix them on a budget after they've had their cup of tea that is. These two aren't stupid that's for sure. Really enjoyed this episode.
What an amazing trip! Looked so much fun!! Hope that cold has gone now, best wishes to you all x
These two boys are pure tv gold!

Good programme. Continue like this. From Karl Schembri from Bubaqra Zurrieq Malta.

Bravo pour cette belle restauration encore plus de vidéo de restauration

Just wait until the new owner finds the sills have rotted out under the plastic trims which is common.
Looks like a petty straight forward PDR job there
Great Chanel guys only just discovered you ,I’ve subscribed tonight
Spends hours cleaning the thing and it looks nice.
So let's take it off road to get it dirty again 🙄
It would be good if they show us the MOT process too as the cost of that as well as the repairs necessary as that hasnt been factored into the cost
Nor was the cost of the new tyres.
This is nothing more than entertainment. They will never be making a profit on any if their old bangers, not even if they worked for nothing (which they already are, really)

Yes, doing it outside is a big nono
Had this on my mums 2017 Renault Scenic, but the sensor was in more of an hidden location, took my mechanic a good 2 hours as it was tucked under the egr
There is no way I would work under a car with axle stands on bricks. Insane.
imagine what he did in the scrapyard.!!!!??
Wooden blocks.

Love this show brilliant
Jurgen Klopp, after Liverpool working on Land Rovers.
I actually really liked the old garage. Shame you don't have a lift here.
could have done that with paintless dent removal for £50
wow. what a difference with the hot bumpers
i may have fitted the original wheels onto this car as i worked for the company that fitted tyre to wheel for all the land rover/ranger rover cars back in the early 00's
Done a brilliant job a beautiful car
This came from my local Jaguar Landrover dealership in Exeter, still called Matford.

It's not a real car business, it's a TV show. that was originally on the Discovery channel.
You got the wrong man to take those dents out. Get the guy who will do it without taking the paint off. I know him.
Finally - first car high enough so that will can't sitt on the front fenders or Hood...fuc*ing hate when he does that
I thought some PDR would have got that out??
That bogey on the back of the steering wheel is that a extra
Early freelander had 1.8 k series engine which was a decent engine till about 55k miles and an head gasket failure
34:42. "I took the coupler off first so putting it on first." Seems assembly would be the reverse of removal and you'd put that on last.
31:18 shouldn't he grind that black marker spray off for a smooth surface?
Whatabout the missing cooling fluid?
Surprise they didn't check the PCV valve, if the rocker cover is leaking
Did i see that mobile panel beater paint over the guide coat ??
I thought I was the only one who noticed that lol
I saw that.why didn't he flat it very strange
mobile body man did a great job, but it looks like it could have been repaired using paintless dent removal in my opinion. Would the PDR be cheaper than the fill and spray? I can't say.
I sure hope the show is making them money, because the the car sales aren't.
I enjoy your videos and love your enthusiasm
Lack of coolant in a petrol means the head is warped, loads of info online about this.
Or the water pump is gone.
A petrol Freelander, its bound to have head gasket problems??? 😮
yeah most of these were binned off for that, the Kseries engine is expensive to fix. I was into 600 quid and that was me sending the head away and me doing the headgasket, got the very latest stuff though. I think by the time i was sorted coolant oil and other odd and sods, i was into a £1000

Have a wild guess the status of this vehicle. As of Jan-24, SORN and with an expired MOT 24-Nov-23. In other words, another dud from Laurel and Hardy.
Ha thanks for that
Wow!...thats pretty sarcastic... Why do you take all this little "so eriously"... no one...or two...are perfect...every time... So if they have to reduce the price to get it sold... Amen to that...
Who would want to be a copper with people like this.
Got me looking for a Freelander, this very car has just appeared for £600 in London with MOT.
Mot has run out according to dvla
Non ULEZ compliant too.
Nice one guys

Like any in that range with the K Series engine....buy the diesel instead. Rover could never be bothered sorting out the head gasket problem. It was fine if you changed the gasket along with the timing belt every 50 thousand.
Didn’t knock back the guide coat ? Am I missing something?
No I noticed that as well 😲
Gordon Ramsey’s hillbilly cousin is quite talented..
Hill descent works great in snow on ours
Bloody hell, those dents would have popped out with some fettling and suction
I totally agree with you. The paint was intact and no serious crease in the metal.
£1650 - 909 - 100 petrol to Cornwall = £641.
Divide by at least 80 hours = £8/hr....with garage rental still to pay.

Think it’s the 1.8 petrol 🤦♂️
Heating the bumper plastics doesn’t work. It lasts 3 months and just dries it out even more
My lawnmower grass box had those plastic edges on it and cut myself putting it on
I thought the idea of guide coats were to flat them them before painting to make sure the surface is smooth?
Never put copper-slip on a nyloc nut. OK to do the lower thread area though.

Lads. Come on now. I love ya but 15 minutes in and you haven't lifted a spanner!
300 for the paint job??? are you kidding? here in North America, that's easily 2x that.
They got that quite cheap, because now you are looking at about 500 now.
Don’t recommend any of that bodywork , never prime to your masking edge and it looked like he sprayed base straight over the guide coat ? 😢 poor job
Hi where did you find the new seat cover online?
Try margarine i have used try on the front bumpers
What as the rocker cover gasket sealant Will used?

Can't believe that guy only charged 300 quid for doing all that work on the rear corner
i am surprised at that too, i was expecting that to be about 500 quid of anyone's money now
It will have been done for free in reality in return for appearing on the show.
