Love to see you two start treating rust prior to filling.. Use some KuRust or similar, then dry with a hair dryer if the workshop is cold. Leave overnight then start filling. Same when you cut out sill sections, like the MX5; spray some into the exposed metal before plating the cover on. You are selling the car on for a good price to a trusting buyer. They deserve a decent product, not one which will rot through again next year!
My aunt used to have the 4 door with the updated dashboard. Ever since I saw the 5, I thought it is the most beautiful little car ever made. I still think so.
Dad bought me one as my first car, I really didn't want it. Soon as I turned 18 it was sold for a very cool Lancia Delta. Brings back good memories, sometimes you don't realise what you have. It had so much character.
I've been watching this show for quite a few weeks now and really enjoyed it. It's a bit like Wheeler Dealers, but these guys tell you how much workshop hours has gone it it, more realistic in my opinion. However I do have a problem with the fact, when they buy a car they don't check under the car, they wait till they get it back. I'm not a machanic but I have bought many cars to resell and looking under the car I something I always do, lay on the floor and have a good poke around.
Yeah, and that is the strict set-up of the show--5 workshop days, that's it. Their skills and labor are transformative, so limiting them to 5 days is much more realistic than WDs.
My mom had a TL back when I was a kid, 40 years ago, it was driven by my cousin later, and even my older brother had a go with it... it was almost indestructible.
You do live in a charmed environment. A head skim would cost me more like AU$1000 and it would be impossible to get anything the size of a car interior shipped here, the couriers simply wouldn't carry it. Living 500km from a major city has it's disadvantages.
Hey Gus, hey Will, I discovered your channel yesterday. The RR episode was the 1st, followed by the SLK and the XM. Today I saw the MGB GT and now this episode. Guys, I 've got to tell you this: You are lot of fun to watch. I really wish I could join you. We are of the same age and this is really something neat you are doing. Sure it's all well filmed and edited (thank you team) but I can tell that everybody must have a great deal of fun doing this. Whenever you are in France again, you must come by and say hello! One mre thing: As far as I'm concerned, the engine cylinder liners of old petrol Renault engines have a paper seal on the bottom. Maybe this is the Achilles heel of the engine.
I drove a Renault 4L as my first work car and despite being the little workhorse, allowing me to go survey all sorts of worksites, it overheated all the time and the headlights would turn on and off by themselves. I just hoped they wouldn't turn off as we passed by the police. :)
They used to sell Renault cars here in Canada once upon a time. They were not made for North America and were considered unreliable and lemons. Have not seen one on the road here in 20 years.
The problem with these kind of (French?) cars is that you have to remove the engine for almost everthing, except replacing the battery. That's why you can't run an old budget car on a budget, alas.
You over did it this time. There was no need for loosing the original paint nor the original seats. You had to go to restore the inside and out and fix the under carriage. You ended up loosing money because of it
I still dont understan. why they take pictures for ads in first day? car looks like shit and they will make it look better by the time, so why not taking pictures for ads, once its done?

Derek, at Reno Speed, swapped chassis’s on my Renault 4 GTL about 15 years ago. Nice bloke, top work. 👍🏼
Such a beautiful car !! Simplicity at its best !
I remember when the price for one of those was "you have to pick it up today" and you could get a beetle for a bottle of cheap whisky.

Great car, the Cleon engine is bulletproof, 350. 000 kilometers is doable. Only the car can rot, especially those from the '70s.

The suspension seems to be collapsed on passenger side...

They gonna hate themselves for selling this one. Give this car 5 years. :D
I had one when I lived in France, cost me 60 pounds English…. I couldn’t break it! And I so miss used it😂😂😂…. And yes, future collectible.

awesome and outstanding
it is a cute car
I was going to say, I suspected the heater core was going to be an issue.
Dived into fixing overheating when they hadn't actually seen it overheating???? Who'd do that?
Waste of time and money
Did you watch the video?
Obviously not. Because the head had hairline cracks. That were removed, when they skimmed the head....💥

Used to have the mid engined turbo 5. One of the regrettable sales.
Best renault ever made was the very last model 16 TS
My mum had one! Indeed. Although I’d say the 8221 was better.
Aren't you forgetting the Renault 25 2.5 V6 Turbo?
@@p.informatico1320 sorry 21. I don't know about that one.
@@p.informatico1320 yeah, and I forgot the 5 Turbo !
They didn't fix the right front spring that was sagging...
But,,,,,WHY no mention of concern that is is a Left-Hand Drive ???
Not sure if the "head that has been skinned and pressure tested" was intended pun...
Shocking body work. All that was wrong with 80s and 90s uk car repair
Paint looks terrible
You can vary a little with the standardized response, it gets boring after the 10th episode....
