When you do something for the right ethical reasons ....There's No Going Back but if you just making this about diet then of course it's easy to go back to the wrong ways. or eat fish thats ocean caught, super healthy for you, do not fry anything..cook with little salt or bake ur fish, add healthy seasonings that wont irritate the gut..this is half of the flushing process...working out is the other half

@@alexl2371 sadly fish is not as wonderful as wed like it to be. It is high in saturated fat, has cholesterol, full of PCBs, Dioxins, Mercury, untreated human excrement we push into the oceans, microplastics, fertilizer and pesticide run off from the land. And that's what I can remember from the top of my head. And of course, we are killing the oceans and we need to stop doing that. We cannot keep up with the demand especially if everyone thinks that if they give up animal flesh and secretions they switch to more fish. We cannot sustain it. The ecosystems in the ocean are on their needs so...... why on earth eat it? Taste alone? That's not a good enough reason from an environmental perspective and what people forget is that our oceans are the biggest carbon sink. F@uck that up like we are currently on a path to doing humanity will meet it's end!!!! Now of course, what about the ethics on top of all of that. Fish feel pain, they have amazing abilities and most of the general public either couldn't give a rats about that (which is sad, very sad) and they are horrendously abused. I was shocked! I ate fish for 45 years and never gave it a second thought and just felt eating it was ok and I didn't care. Now I do. Been vegan 6 years and my blood work absolutely bloody amazing! Pardon the pun but I hope that's food for thought. We gotta save this planet and its sentient beings we are horrendously abusing. A great book if you wish to challenge my thinking is by Dr Will Tuttle called "The World Peace Diet". Read that and then take a look at how you feel. Blessings.

Thanks for sharing your experience. I mentioned on your previous video...I'm a retired pharmacist (61 years old) and got tired of dispensing the same meds over and over. I felt like in the majority of cases, they were needed only because people were making poor eating choices. My family decided to try a plant based diet over 25 years ago, and we're still vegetarian. I feel that we're all fit, slim, and healthy directly due to our eating and exercise habits. I suggest people begin slowly and have meatless days 2 days a week. As they realize they feel better, I often see them expanding to more days per week. It's also easier for the cook in the family because they can build a cache of meatless recipes the family enjoys. Step by step I help convert people to meatless eating. The best way is by serving them delicious meatless foods that entice them to choose it for themselves. Thanks SO much for sharing your experience...I hope it encourages more people to give it a try!!

I went on the plant-based diet about 2 months ago. I found it very easy to stick to, but, that's my personality. My doc recommended this diet because he knows I resist medics so he said to try it a month to see how my glucose would react. In 6 weeks I went from over 140 to under 110 and often just 100. I feel better. I've lost 16 pounds, not that I needed to lose weight, in that time and now that I know it will help my colesterol, even better. I'm 81 years old and in pretty good health. But since this diet, even better health. I used to take a fiber supplement every day and stopped that because, basically plant base is fiber. I plan on staying on this plan just because I feel better. As for meat, if you think you'll miss it just try Beyond Beef or one of the equivalent products. It's amazing what they can mimic. Even cheese, cashew yogurt, Macadamia nut milk or oat milk. I know for most people it may be really hard to change over. So I won't say, 'if I can do it everybody can'', because it's not true. Everyone is different and food, no matter what base it is is the most desired thing alive. Think about it, 3 or more times a day.

I'm not mad at you guys, but I think you need to do more research. The Keto lifestyle with eating lots of low carb green plants, avocados and some berries, avoiding high sugary fruits and carbs daily, is the best diet for me and I assume millions of other people which it is why it is creating a tremendous interest! Even Dr. Oz had shows about it and how people are very healthy on it. No one diet is right for everyone. I'm not afraid of eating animal products and clean meats, and natural healthy fats from nature like our ancestors did for however long we've been on planet Earth. I avoid factory processed fake foods at all cost and especially high carb grains and starches full of carcinogenic glyphosate and other toxins! I've quickly lost 50 lbs over 3 years ago with hardly no excercise, and kept it off effortlessly because I keep my total carbs under 50g or less per day, and I only eat once or twice a day in a 6 hour window. And I have plenty of energy and am convinced keto works for most people if they do it correctly! I don't care about calories at all. I eat until satisfied, which I guess is around 2000 calories or more because I use lots of olive oil, cocunut oil and real butter in my diet! The body let's you know when to stop eating real food, not true with fake foods. The rest of the day I'm fasting which keeps my insulin low and blood glucose normal. Triglycerides and cholesterol is normal. Keeping your insulin low which tells the body to store fat is the secret by not snacking. And it's a myth that fat give you heart disease or you can't decrease plaques on keto. It's fake seed oils or vegetable oils coupled with sugar and high carbs that causes tremendous inflammation and clogs the arteries, brain, and heart with plaques. Cardiologist Dr. Steven Gundry says he can't eat enough olive oil which protects the arteries! Real fat is good for the body because it's satisfying.
Occasionally I'll do a 72 hour water fast for stem cells production and authophagy. It's no accident the most popular way of eating on UA-cam is keto with intermittent fasting because people are getting very healthy doing it correctly! This is not the old Atkins diet you're thinking of which was very unhealthy with fake processed fats, too much processed meats, and dairy, and little plants. The most popular healthy keto doctor on UA-cam today is Dr. Eric Berg who has 3.25 million subscribers by no accident! He's gotten many thousands of people healthy globally, and at normal weight with keto and health info videos he does daily. Dr. Jason Fung MD Nephrologist, is another popular doctor on UA-cam who uses low carb keto and fasting to reverse insulin resistance diabetes type 2 very successfully. Btw, I see a lot of overweight or so-called 'skinny fat' vegans because they are lacking essential nutrients by avoiding meat and dairy proteins and fish for essential Omega 3,6,7,9 and EPA DHA. Or they are 'chubby fat' and toxic because they eat high carb/sugar vegan friendly factory processed fake foods, and snack all day spiking their insulin very high. They are true vegans but with insulin resistance disease and fatty livers and who knows what else! Vegan eating is healthy ONLY IF you know what to do to make up for lost nutrients by not eating meat, eggs, and fish proteins and you keep sugar and carbs way lower than the American junk food SAD diet, and only eat real food. Healthy Keto is natural, satisfying, sustainable, self regulating, and forever! It makes fasting easy because an adapted keto person is used to burning diet or their own body fat for fuel or carbs for fuel if so chosen for energy burst, which is great metobolic flexibility! And you lose sugar carb food cravings for good which was a big problem for me in the past and why I was fat!

Hi JJ and Michael. Thanks for your comments and for watching. We could debate keto all day long. We are not selling a diet - or anything for that matter. Most of the keto people you have referred to are profiting directly from selling the keto diet. I think most people can agree that eating whole foods, not processed, and more plants just makes sense. Our ancestors had access to meet very intermittently and had to eat as much as they could because they didn't know where their next meal was coming from. Hence the breakdown of the paleo argument. At any rate, continued good luck to the two of you and thanks for watching.

@@TalkingWithDocs I got the impression that you two were pushing only a plant based diet is healthy. Why not a omnivore or carnivore way of eating or Paleo as long as it's real and natural food from earth and not factory? People do well on these diets too. Yes, the people I mentioned sell supplements and books and have sponsors which is the American way to profit. Who doesn't want to get paid for providing free health info and time in the form of videos to the public that is helping them? Hospitals, medical providers, and big pharma market and sell their very expensive tests, procedures, devices, surgeries and drugs for profit. The important thing is the doctors I mentioned are trained expert doctors like yourselves, that understand the body holistically, and they do extra research on their own time, not condoned by conventional medicine, to backup what they teach with the latest scientific studies. And they get great results which is why people follow them and tell others.

Hi J J. Sorry for the confusion. We are simply explaining our experiences. In the general nutrition community however, a plant based diet has outperformed all other diets. It does not have to be vegan per se. There are many short comings of diets like keto and paleo that have risks associated with them. If you want to eat meat, or cheese or whatever that is an individual decision. If you are looking to make significant changes to improve your health, the simplest decision you can make is to eat more whole foods that are plants. Even the keto and paleo people would agree with that. But hey, it has people talking and questioning what we are eating because North Americans have never been richer, had greater access to advanced medical care, had more access to information - and despite all of this, we have never been sicker or heavier. Thanks so much for your comments and for watching our channel. All the best!

Plant Based Diet is the very best diet. No bread / processed carbs got rid of my sugar addiction.

    Hi Docs,
My name is Bill Blackburn and I really enjoyed this video. I went plant based about 2 years ago because I needed to lose weight and reduce or eliminate cholesterol medications. I jumped on the internet to find out about stem cell treatment for my knee pain and I really got a lot of good information from that video. So I have watched several other video’s that you have post. I subscribed to your channel because I really like the way you guys are transparent and how well you connect with your audience. I look forward to many more of your posts, and by the way I lost over 50+ pounds came off of all prescription medications, my knee pain went away from the weight loss but I’m having some pain in my left knee again, but from watching your video’s I think I have gathered some valuable information to make a more informed decision when I met with my orthopedic doctor next month.
    Thanks,
    Bill Blackburn

I am 58 years old. An exclusively plant-based diet dropped my cholesterol to 3.2 (124) from 5.4(209) and reduced my blood pressure to 110/70 from 145/90. It has also got rid of my diverticulas as measured by 2 colonoscopies 9 months apart - something that is supposed to be impossible.

When you do something for the right ethical reasons ....There's No Going Back but if you just making this about diet then of course it's easy to go back to the wrong ways. Since you've already proven it's better for you health basically it's a no-brainer but the marketing industry needs to do what it does

I went WFPB in December to see if it would help some horrible digestive problems I’ve been having which we cannot figure out even after colonoscopy, upper endoscopy and HIDA scan. I have not had one single digestive pain, problem, or even hiccup since the day I started. I feel so much better! I’m excited to get my blood work checked to see what those numbers look like. So excited after seeing this video as I decided to go down this road too. I've had high cholesterol for over 10 yrs. I keep trying to take statins but I get the worse leg pains that it's just too much. This past summer I saw Dr. Heffernan (cardio) as well as a Lipid Specialist out of Hamilton General. My C scan is 289 but stress test /ec was great!! Again, I tried taking a low dose, same result. My cholesterol is courtesy of my (deceased) mother. I've always been physically active and even though a nutritionist said my diet was very good, I decided to up my game and go vegan or vegetarian with 2 exceptions. Having trouble finding cream substitute for my coffee : ( and I buy grass fed eggs and chicken breasts which I've only been able to find at Whole Foods. I only have chicken about twice a month. Haven't eaten pork or beef in years, because of how the animals are treated. One still needs to read labels on plant based products or at least get an understanding of what the ingredients are because it's still a processed food. I also watch sugar/fat and anything that could be inflammatory. Overall I do feel better and I'm hoping my blood work will reflect it. Love these videos!!

It is so refreshing to see the change in attitude of the people who comment on these videos nowadays. I remember at the beginning of my whole foods plant based journey how toxic and devoid of rational debate people used to be. And nowadays it is becoming so normalized, as well as I think people are really starting to wake up to the fact that if we don't do a 180 turn soon, there will be no environment left for anybody or anything. I will add my voice to the positive. Plant based or Vegan for the win.

You guys look great and so much fun to watch. Can I ask which movie you watched that influenced you the most? Thank you for being honest about how you lowered your cholesterol. We have been plant base for almost 20 years and the benefits are obvious. People do need to be aware that whether you’re vegan, plant based or whatever you wanna call it you can still eat junk food. If you’re watching this please be careful not to consume saturated fats. There are in so many food loaded with coconut oil and processed foods that look like chicken that are also loaded with saturated fat! Enough said. What we do need is more dialogue on how alcohol affects the liver and the development of cholesterol in the blood. It’s very easy to eat healthy and drink plenty of brews. Docs can you please cover that topic?

For me, it was a high calcium score (a sign of plaque in arteries and heart attack risk) that started me doing research. I discovered the heart disease reversal diets that were essentially vegan diets. Cleaned out the pantry, gave away what I could, and started eating differently: whole foods, plant based, lower sugar, with no added oils or other fats. I was also surprised how quickly I started to lose weight and ended up at my college weight 30 or so pounds lighter. My cardiologist also recommended that I increase my dose of atorvastatin and I did so. Both my wife and I have LDLs in the 40s or low 50s, and our cardiologists are now believers in the plant-based diet. Note: it is harder to eat on trips or in restaurants but many restaurants, cruise companies, and tour firms are learning how to accommodate those of us who eat this way.

I was in a quandary about what to do but ultimately I started eating fish and chicken and some cheese and very little red meat but kept the emphasis on veggies, legumes etc.. Hi A P. You are correct in that dietary cholesterol was once thought to be the main cause of high blood cholesterol but this has since been disproven for the majority of people. There is a small group of people called responders whose blood cholesterol rise and fall rapidly in response to dietary cholesterol. For that reason, it is still recommended to limit cholesterol intake. The other reason is that we simply do not need it. Hope that clarifies the position. Thanks for commenting though. All the best. I think it is mostly about being active, not eating too much processed food/oils and sugars.
I eat a lot of cholesterol rich foods, since those are very nutritious and good (weekly eat liver, 25+ eggs, fresh milk/cheese, seafood, some red meat). Of course plants too. I do yearly blood work, and cholesterol is on very low end, last one total 3.48mmol/L (with hdl 1.66 mmol/L, Ldl at 1.47, trig, 0.77).

You two Doctors are getting thinner...noticed the minute the video started. Looking good guys! I so enjoy your videos. They are informative and always personable with a sense of humor. I have learned so much from you. Congratulations on the great results from your diet changes. Think I will educate myself more on going to a plant-based diet. Thank you for taking the time to care for us! Diane
Could you provide the names of those two documentaries? Thanks!

Hi Diane. Thanks for the positive feedback. We do not want to lose any more weight! It just happens with being full from real food. Best two documentaries to start with are "What the Health" and "Forks Over Knives" - both on Netflix. Good luck. Thanks for watching, subscribing and sharing with someone if you did.

I’m back!!! You have kick started me into the plant based diet world. After watching this video and commenting , I followed up with lots of research and knowledge gathering. A couple weeks later I committed to the Plant Based Whole Food Diet. The transition was easy since I have never been an enthusiastic meat eater. Continue to add to my menus.
      The results after six weeks:
Blood pressure went to 106/74 - blood pressure med gone!
Blood glucose average 134 to 98 - more work needed but going in the right direction!
      Weight: down 11 pounds
I am feeling better every day.
You two wonderful Doctors impacted my life in such a good way. See..these videos do make a difference AND… you weren’t even in the operating room! Thank you so very much. Diane

Hey Docs, If you decide you want a low fat animal meal, besides turkey, try bison. It is being sold in small one pound packages around my town. It tastes good and has almost no fat. So you sere it with olive oil. It is an excellent occasional burger choice.

Can have high cholesterol with thyroid issues.
Going vegan needs careful thought especially for B12 iron and vit D .

    • @TalkingWithDocs
      @TalkingWithDocs  4 роки тому +3

Hi ninjanicnic. So going vegan does require some thought. With the way meat is grown and processed these days the majority of people are vitamin B12 deficient so that needs to be taken into account. Having said that, 2 cups of almond milk meet the daily B12 requirements. Most people living in non sub-Saharan climates are vitamin D deficient so most people will require supplements regardless of their diet. Heme iron is obviously present in animal products however iron is present in many plants as well but you do need to be intentional about your choices. Thanks for sharing and for watching.

I gave up meat six years ago after twenty five years of stomach problems, I always found it very difficult to digest and felt lousy after a meat meal. I have kept dairy as I love yogurt, milk & cheese. I eat a lot of fresh fish as I am aware of the importance good protein intake, beans nuts fruit and grains. I have had no further stomach problems. I will never go back to meat.

I actually read the comments before watching this and thought oh god no...you’ve just lost me. But then I watched it. So kudos for presenting in a non pushy/preaching way. I wouldn’t necessarily endorse the vegan diet. I strongly believe in everything in moderation. BUT the LDL levels Z refers to hits home. I had half my thyroid out in June 2019, became hypo, other half came out in Nov due to cancer and again, struggling with hypothyroidism. Which, you may or may not know, can raise cholesterol levels. It’s a little scary for someone in their (early 😉) 30’s! Not to mention the unintended weight gain. My household has made a change to include more vegetarian meals, which has been awesome. I have young kids, so again, everything in moderation. Now if you have some tips on how to get kids to eat their vegetables, that would be great! Lol

I tried doing the vegan diet but I will admit I truly hated it. I was alway hunger. I am in a keto diet and it’s been great for me. I lost about. 28 pounds, stopped getting headaches that I had been plagued with all of my life. Since I no longer take over the counter pain meds my acid reflux is all but gone. I now only eat twice a day. I get most of my fat from olive oil and nuts. I pretty much only eat very nutritious dense food. I eat more vegetables than I ever have. I am willing to give eating vegan again a try but I travel a lot and just don’t know how that would work. I also attend dinner parties and no one in my circle is vegan. I just don’t know how people are able to make it work. That said my blood work is great and I am in the best shape I have been since my early 30s. PS most real keto diet people don’t eat tons of meat and bacon. This is something I hear all of the time. Thanks you both make great content. Take care

Very welcome Scott. Congrats. Yes some keto people talk too much about bacon etc. a whole food plant based diet can fit within keto but we feel complex carbohydrates and grains okay an important role. All the best. Thanks for watching and subscribing

I lost 15 kilos within months when I went plant based. I went in boots and all because of a heart diagnosis and after a few months I got used to it and started to really enjoy simple and natural food. Lots of fruit and veg and whole grains. I hate beans but had some. I had some nuts and lentils. I went from level 2 diastolic dysfunction to mild (with some added exercise in a cardiac gym). I still have pulmonary hypertension and the valve disease that contributed, plus I struggle with really high blood pressure as I can't take most meds. I get all the painful and bad side effects. I guess I'm a mechanical mess. And I fell off the wagon badly after a mysterious long lasting fever - 6 weeks, two in hospital, and I didn't eat anything for three weeks, then could only face a mouthful of food a day for the rest. My taste buds made everything good taste like metal and when my appetite returned I craved meat pies and junk. So I didn't get back until about 12 months later when food started to taste normal again. It's the only way to eat to remove inflammation.

Wow Docs, hard to believe you had cholesterol concerns. Funnily enough, I’ve developed respiratory problems n I saw my GP today who has sent me for bloods for my cholesterol n a heart scan. My Mum died of cardiomyopathy, so they do keep a check on my heart. I think I’ll dive straight in and become meat free...it’s all or nothing with me. I can never give up red wine or butter, but I will deffo try now. You both look great by the way. Thank you for the videos...pl keep them coming and thank you🙏🏽

@@TalkingWithDocs I believe your working within an old and dogmatic paradigm. Its a very heathy way to eat, perhaps you dont understand the keto diet and intermittent fasting. Id recommend you follow Dr Berg, Dr Ken Berry, Dr Foung and Dr Shawn Baker to begin to update your software and move away from medicine and in the direction of healthcare.
