    Dr. Greger may have helped save my life. His book ‘How not to die’ was recommended to me by my doctor after it was discovered I had some blockage in 3 arteries. I completely changed my diet & life after barely reading a chapter. And his book ultimately led me to your channel which continues to inspire and educate me.
    Thank you 🙏🏻

      Totally. We got to meet him on the Holistic Holiday at Sea cruise in March. Took a pic with him first night then a few days later I invited him to join us at the breakfast table (assuming he was probably meeting someone) but no harm in asking right?! He said yes I am but tell you what, if I don't find them I'll come back and join you. And he did!! It was a great time chatting about travel and such. Didn't ask him anything health related as I'm sure he gets that ALL.THE.TIME! One of the highlights of my trip!

      Unfortunately, this was a big fail. How could someone who is into resistance training not ask one question about it? Dr. Gregor is definitely into exercise with the amount of walking he does, just not for building muscle. I fear for his health.
      It's interesting that bodybuilders rarely die from cancer although they eat large amounts of protein and do steroids. Isn't high protein intake supposed to spike mTOR and increase cancer risk? It's unfortunate that nobody will ask Dr. Gregor these types of questions.

Oh my gosh, what an incredible wealth of knowledge in these two books!! Thanks for introducing me to Dr. Gregor! Love that he's doing a walking interview. I've been a vegetarian for almost 40 years and wish I had the internet resources to guide me at the start of the journey. I had to become an armchair nutritionist (I read a lot of books) for my own sake. When I gave birth to my second child, I was such an oddity that the hospital nutritionist brought her intern to visit me and ask why I didn't have an iron deficiency. Now that I'm older, I'm encountering new challenges and am grateful for the resources like yourself and Dr. Gregor. I'll definitely read the book and keep watching for great ideas. I bought an airfryer because of one of your videos and LOVE it! Thank you!

    This is AMAZING! Congrats for hooking up with Dr. G! As an infant, before I even knew what "meat" was, my family would feed me baby foods with meats in them and I would get violently ill. The family Dr. said "meh, just feed her what doesn't make her sick, she'll grow out of it." At 17, still not eating meats (way back before it was trendy to be veg), my family took me back to the Dr. thinking something was "wrong" with me. Turns out I am missing a digestive enzyme that digests higher forms of protein, like that in animal products. It's sort of like an allergy! Full fat dairy gives me migraines, whole eggs give me digestive issues. So now, at 56, I have been a vegetarian (98% whole food vegan) I still do not consume meat, ever. My family has a long history of heart disease & diabetes. I feel my body rejects certain foods as an indicator of things that may make my genetically predetermined ailments worse. Pardon the pun but Go with your gut. 🙂

      @11235Aodh Рік тому +1

      This makes sense, also i heard that a specific strain of lyme can now cause people to become allergic to meat, this would no doubt also be the breaking of the enzyme that helps digest higher forms of protein, animal proteins are very large, casein from milk being one of the biggest.

    Nice job! i've been a fan of Dr Greger for years, as a family doctor trying literally to keep people alive, his first book How Not To Die remains, by far, the most helpful book I've recommended to my patients for real life changes. Derek, you are the star and I so enjoy your videos. Also, you're easy on the eyes and your personality is awesome. I have learned so much from you. I'm in California so long distance but same values. Dr. Gregor, I've followed for years. Glad you made this video. He is wonderful and the real deal. Continue on please as you are making changes in people's life.

    I make sos-free seitan in the instant pot by just using up veggie leftovers of any type, adding herbs and spices and blending it in the cuisinart for a few minutes with gluten flour. I wrap it in parchment paper, then cheese cloth and steam it (using a veggie steamer in the bottom) for like 40 minutes. Easy and healthy version and way cheaper than the salty and fatty stuff in the stores. So…I think seitan can definitely be a health food!

    Love Dr. Gregor.🙂I prefer not to eat grains, but I recently decided to try black rice. I'm surprised it wasn't mentioned. It tasted just like white rice, but has a far better nutrient profile. It's expensive, though. Thank you for this interview, Derek.🤗❤️

      Derek skipped the most important question regarding Dr. Gregor excessive treadmill use and his refusal to consider resistance training in promoting longevity. Am I going to "die young" by wanting to build muscle and consume 1.6 g/kg of protein daily to support my effort? Dr. Gregor seems to think so.

    • @11235Aodh
      @11235Aodh Рік тому

      @@jakubchrobry3701 You really don't need to eat that much protein, you already eat more calories because you're working out so you automatically get enough protein. All proteins can be gotten from starches, fruit and vegetables. I do think resistance training is important though a couple times a week.

      @@11235Aodh You need to do some research. At least watch the documentary , The Game Changers. They have plenty of references too. They even say at least 1.6 g/kg of protein. Most non-vegans resistance trainers say 2.2 g/kg.
      I'm not talking about a leisure couple of times per week hitting the machines without breaking a sweat that most fit people do. I'm talking heavy deadlifts, squats, bench, etc to gain strength and muscle. I'm 6' 2". I went from 156 lbs in October to my current 183 lbs with no noticeable addition of fat. I'm 58 and looked like (body only) Mr. Burns on the Simpsons last October (just like Dr. Greger). I don't want to die of sarcopenia. Dr. Greger does not look like he's going to have a healthy future. And it's not his diet. I look younger than him and I'm about 10 years older.
      I was eating around 2000 cal/day and now often hit 3000 cal. And I unwantedly dropped 2 lbs in the last month. Remember, athletes like Michael Phelps eat about 10,000 cal/day (when he trained). My body is now similar to Phelps.

    I’m a critical care RN, I had a patient that was severely allergic to chlorophyll so he could not eat any plants. At age 50 he had several heart stents and bad coronary artery disease. He could only eat meat, eggs, processed crap foods, soda, some cheap breads/buns (because they’re stripped of any nutrition), no French fry’s, no ice cream, (dairy passes on some chlorophyll from eating grass), no pizza, no juice, etc. He was depressed, unhealthy, though he couldn’t change his diet, it is true allergy to plants. That’s how I know the Keto diet is not healthy, especially long term. I watched this person through the years, saw his health deteriorate.

    Hey Derek, I am glad you asked the Calcium carbonate question because just last week I was thinking about your video where you said it maybe a problem in plant milks. And I was thinking, that it shouldn't be, because when you eat your stomach tries to achieve a certain pH and so if you consume carbonate, which increases pH, your stomach will lower it by producing more acid.

    • @dspinel1
      @dspinel1 Рік тому +1

      So wouldn't that mean that the stomach then has to work that much harder? I mean low stomach acid is a legitimate issue that leads to a lot of health issues. So I'm not so sure that we can just rely on the fact that our stomachs will easily overcompensate, and that there will be no negative consequences for that overcompensation.
      I'm sure Dr. Greger has a thorough explanation of why to not worry about fortified calcium carbonate, but he didn't explain it at all in this video. He basically just said "trust me" and left it at that. So I'm still unconvinced myself.

    • @plantahari
      @plantahari Рік тому

      calcium carbonate doesn't permanently reduce stomach acid, unlike drugs like proton pump inhibitors (rabeprazole, pantoprazole, etc) which react with enzymes to actually alter stomach acid quantity. calcium carbonate is a weak base that will react with the stomach acid to produce some calcium salts but it's nowhere near enough to cause harm, and it doesn't affect the actual acid levels. of course this doesn't mean you should guzzle calcium carbonate like there is no tomorrow, but normal amounts in fortified foods is not a concern.

    • @dspinel1
      @dspinel1 Рік тому +1

      @@plantahari Thank you for your reply and insight. Yes, I agree that it is not comparable to the use of proton pump inhibitors. Yet there is still the concern that certain plant milks are fortified with the same active ingredient and dosage as common antacids such as Tums. Perhaps infrequent consumption will not lead to a prolonged decrease in stomach acid levels. But I would never eat an antacid with a meal and expect optimal digestion. So I'm still unsure as to why drinking it in the form of plant milk would not be a concern.
