  • Switching to a whole food plant-based diet is a huge change for anyone. And with all the information out there, it is easy to get caught up in the little things like organic produce, counting calories, etc. Those little things quickly build up and eventually...you give up. During this video I go over the different perfection traps and how to avoid them so you can stay on your forever diet.

Dylan and Reebs, I spent the past week in 3 ERs with my dad. He has CHF but has been eating vegan for the past 4 years. However, his CHF is worsening over time and he started getting fluid on his lungs. They told him very strictly that he needs to cut his sodium way way way down. He was so bummed out by how bland his food is tasting but I put your Asian sauce on his dinner last night and showed him your BBQ sauce that he can use too (I need to reorder your Ketchup, Italian dressing, etc!) and his face lit up! He said "It's all about the sauce!" He was so relieved to have flavor back in his meals. I have given him your sauces before but he strayed away. :) Thank you for making a product that will help to keep my dad on the diet that will allow him to stay out of the ER.... and save his life. 💗💗💗

Perfection-seeking is another manifestation of the pleasure trap. There's a dopamine hit when "ahhh!" you've done it "perfectly." What needs to be realized, is that true perfection is eating the right foods without feeling like you're trying, and not worrying about the details. The easiest way to do that, is to eat whole starches with fresh or cooked vegetables and fruits, enhanced simply with spices and/or fatty whole plants, perhaps a touch of salt or sugar.
Sample menu for me for the week - keeping it simple and easy:
    potatoes and other roots vegetables
    rice, brown and white
    broccoli and other greens
    beans
    fruit
whole grains, whole grain flours, including pastas
non starchy veg of a rainbow of colors, as desired
    spices, herbs
other - mushrooms, nutritional yeast, vinegars, red wine for cooking on occasion, soy sauce...et cetera
I make soups, stews, pasta dishes, stir fry, salads, sandwiches....I'm spending more time writing this comment, than I will on preparing my food for today. I'm cooking 2 pounds of brown rice, and I'm gonna have 2 pounds of stir-fry (no oil) broccoli. I also have jumbo russet potatoes, and will make some fries with ketchup...so simple, SO easy to execute, totally affordable, and delicious.

Thank you, Thank you. I've been WFPB for almost 9 years and this is simply the best advice for anyone getting started or continuing to eat this way. For three months now I have been eating vegan. I have been pleasantly surprised by the variety of recipes that I could find on UA-cam! I have been learning to cook food from so many different countries. I was warned about getting type 2 diabetes and read that a fat free vegan diet would help me. I have lost a lot of weight without even trying with this way of eating. In February I will find out if that has worked. Thank you for your contributions ❣️

❤ this. I went through phases of trying to be perfect: daily dozen, raw, GBOMBs, it was all consuming. I don’t have time for that, I’ve got a job and kids . I eat non-fussy now, I love your recipes. In fact, I feel better not having anxiety about my nutrients and meals. I eat the same meal for lunch-rice and tofu with whatever veggies are on hand.

This is exactly us. We get so many emails and comments from people who have experienced it just like you are saying. Our approach takes away the anxiety which is real. People hear about this way of eating and all they think of initially is the mechanical motions, but there is so much more at play than learning how to saute without oil, for example. You nailed it.

I have been dabbling into this type of lifestyle for a couple of years without a true mindset shift and i have failed miserably. I am finally putting my full effort into achieving my goals. I've been off-the-wagon, on-the-wagon with WFPB for many years, and when I'm doing it "right" it is all about perfection and it works fine while it lasts, but it is exhausting (and impossible) to stay perfect, and once I slip a little I just give up and start eating garbage. What I can often do is get them in in a week, but even there I don’t stress. I don’t even eat grains everyday because I just love a variety of beans and greens more. As long as my diet is WFPB and 90% SOS free, I still feel great and my blood sugar stays low and I’m happy. Oh yeah, I do need some exercise too.

I've said it before but I am so happy I found your youtube channel and facebook group. I'm very detailed in everything I do and have been all my life. Just who I am and spending 6 years in the US Army only reinforced that. I have learned now, thanks mostly to you, this way of eating doesn't have to be so strict or constantly perfecting it. A whole foods plant based diet is already perfect enough. I know how to eat. I've spent close to a lifetime studying nutrition, health and physical fitness but what I am learning in my "old" age is, it doesnt have to be "perfect." Thank you Dillion for all you do.

When I first went plant-based (vegetarian) 14 years ago, I didn't know enough to sweat the details and lost a ton of weight (75 lbs). Then I started listening to all the famous plant-based doctors and attempted to fine-tune my diet and clean it up so it would be Vegan and SOS free. This started an upward spiral of weight gain for the past 8 years and gained most of that weight back. I just couldn't stick to vegan-SOS free without also eating junk vegetarian foods at night (pizza, chocolate, ice cream, etc). Being told that sugars and flours are addictive made me crave them more. Being told that vegan fat products are addictive also didn't serve me (milk, cheese, butter, nut butter, yogurt, cream, etc). I'm at a loss. I do appreciate the simplicity message that you communicate. The calorie density chart is drilled into my head, but I can't stick to it. Help would be greatly appreciated.

Many people who have tons of food sensitivities or they have chronic illness, they usually have to stick with organic food. For example me, I get very bad reaction to many foods which are not organic quality. I'm fixing the gut right now but it's a long process. But I personally have to follow organic foods, because my body doesn't like any extra chemicals. Anyway I loved your video and it's really comforting in many aspects :)

Brilliant video, thank you so much. Yes, let's find our own delicious forever diet, I'm enjoying the journey and tweaking but it's basically the same simple, hearty and filling meals, I love them so much, I no longer wish to reintroduce chocolate pastries or crisps/chips into my diet, they're triggering foods and I don't need them. I deserve to maintain my slim weight and regained health.

Thank you! I have been considering returning to a plant based diet, but my mind is already falling into these traps. I went in all or nothing a few years ago, and health greatly improved, but the lifestyle was not sustainable, I had made it too difficult. I'm so glad I found your channel. I'm looking forward to watching and learning more!

I am so appreciative of your words they are truth!
Our thoughts, energies as well as food can keep us happy and healthy, It is all about balance! What we think & feel about ourselves and the food we eat keeps us from DIS-EASE. Balance is joyful!
The love of my life always says, "Keep it simple, silly. You'll be happier" 😂

I try to stick with the GBOMBS daily intake but always run out stuff, that, of course, gives me stress because I feel like I'm failing and my health won't improve 😞.......then, I try to get organic as much as I can but the damned store doesn't have much to choose from. I'm terrified about the glyphosate toxic contaminated foods because my whole family died of cancers of every kind......so I get the frozen microwave in the bag veggies for convenience so I won't waste food due to spoilage etc. But I'm always stressed about the pesticide issue. I do like making a giant instant pot dish to have all week long with some grains or potatoes on the side.
Your plant rants help keep it real and attainable for me.....thanks 🙏

I have been plant based for several years. With a large hiatal hernia, I eat several small meals throughout the day. My son, not plant based, also likes my food. That makes it hard to cook enough to get me through a week or two without needing to cook every day. For the time being, everything I eat needs to be soft until I can get dentures. Currently no upper teeth.

Thank goodness for some common sense!
Just eat the healthy wholefood plant-based foods you fancy, listen to your body- it knows what it needs.
As hunter gatherers, we ate what was right in front of us-Every day or even each mouthfull was unique.
Tried the daily dozen & gbombs, but got tired of the filling-in & checking off- I realised that it gave me a road map to meander along.

I was counting my calories when I started plant-based. Now I am stuck. So, now I am switching it up to be more like what you do. Eat until I am full.
