Love this!! 57-year-old male, 5 years plant-based. My doctor was getting ready to prescribe meds for my high cholesterol. I begged her to give me 6 months to improve it with diet and exercise and she rolled her eyes, smiled, and said, "What could it hurt? Sure, I'll give you 6 months. I went whole food plant-based. In 6 months my LDL cholesterol went from 134 to 81. 6 months later it had dropped to 68.
As far as this new way of eating taking a lot of time, in my experience, it only takes a lot of time for a few months. You're learning. Once you learn how to shop and prepare your food, it's not any more time consuming than it was before. As for cost? I no longer purchase meat, cheese, eggs, milk, butter, or ice cream. I'm pretty sure I'm spending less money eating whole food plant-based. Thank you, Rich. I love and appreciate your work!!

@gd I lost 40 pounds and my wife lost 30 and we weren't even "dieting." But the key is eating whole food plant-based. There are plenty of vegan processed foods out there. Coca-Cola is vegan. Oreos are vegan. Tortilla chips dipped in hummus are vegan. But to get healthier and lose weight you have to eat whole food (not processed) plant-based and don't overeat. You have to stop eating when you're no longer hungry, don't eat until you're full. By the time your brain gets the message that you're full, you've overeaten a little. As soon as you think, "Huh I'm not really hungry anymore," stop and put the rest of your food in the fridge for your next meal. Good luck!

I’m thinking about switching from Keto to WFPB, but I also want to continue doing intermittent fasting (16:8 or 20:4) and exercise to gain learn muscle. In your experience is the diet sustainable for both of these things at the same time? Also, what kinds of foods do you like to eat the most? Thanks! ^^

Hi. I have started my journey with plant based diet because of high blood pressure. But it doesn’t help. It’s been a few months now. I’m on two types of medications that helps to drop it down. What can be wrong if you see any reason. Me too I’d like to be healthy, have clear mind, exercise every day but I can’t. I feel just tired all the time and with no energy.

I was a type two diabetic plus onset cardiovascular. No longer have diabetes and my blood pressure is perfect these days. Congrats! Im glad you took your health back! It's so interesting how some people thrive on the starch solution and how other report they felt worst, or saw no change etc. I wonder if they followed the protocol exactly or if they were still eating fats and oil.m and not fully aware or telling the truth.
How are you now maintaining your weight now? Is your weight stable while still eating the starch solution? Or do you have to eat fats or nuts every now and then to maintain your weight? I don't hear much about people who maintain. For example, I know someone who is technically eating starch solution, and their weight dropped to dangerous levels and I can't convince them to eat anything else. I'm talking 30 to 40lbs underweight, they don't even weigh 100lbs and she's a geown woman. I'm convinced they aren't eating enough calories though, and its not really the diet. But do you find maintaining your weight hard?

My wife and I had changed to a plant based diet but when she got the cancer diagnosis her doctors didn’t know how to work with plant based. They were all sold on Keto so we switched to Keto to make it easier. Originally we switched to plant based because my blood work came back so bad and I wanted to try it. Within 6 weeks I had reversed EVERYTHING. I had crossed over to type 2, and that was no longer an issue. So, my wife passed and my diet was complete garbage after that this last year and my heart has started to give me fits. Blood pressure is out of control even being on multiple BP drugs. I’ve switched back to plant based now and we will see how quickly I can change my body once again.

'Animal Compassion' was my reason for becoming 100% plant-based 1/1/18. Live in rural Arkansas and watch the death trucks stuffed with chickens drive by every week. Surrounded by chicken farms so this weekly parade keeps me on track. I remember the first time I went shopping and only bought vegetables. Got home and just stared at this pile of veggies. Felt very confused. So, I started watching podcases about the superior nutrition in plants vs meat. Within 2 weeks I had no more bone pain in my knees, shoulder or lower back. No more acid reflux. Plus, my conscience was finally clear. I did not support animal cruelty in any way.

Thank you for the information in this discussion! I'm turning 60 in a few days. A little history... I've always been active, in truth ADHA ruled! I came out of the womb a carnivore, raised on a farm. Have always recognized eating fruits and vegetables made me feel better, but only carried around the thought of going vegetarian without ever doing it. My older sister was diagnosed with breast cancer three years ago, and it was that event, her diagnosis that pushed me to eliminate animal protein, except egg and cheese, from my diet. Fast forward to now, January 2024, I'm now eleven days into being vegan. I feel so much better. I could say so much more but I highly recommend anyone who is sick and tired of being sick and tired....try eating more and more plants, you'll never regret it. My motivation for eating this way boils down to spiritual, physical and psychological reasons. I do not want to live the remaining years of my life being a burden to myself, my son nor society. It's just that simple and I feel great!
Thanks again for your discussions about plant based diets backed by science.

The vegan diet is the worst. You eat avocados. Look up how avocados are farmed and the amount of water that is used and all the transportation back and forth across the seas. But, it'ss not only avocados. It's tropical fruits that are transported over long distances. It's the farming pracitice used farming the crop. I was also sent for a routine health check given to people in their mid 70s. ‘Do you know why you’ve been sent for’ the nurse asked me. I had no idea and it was because I never go to the doctors they wanted to make sure that I had no hidden problems! My husband was sent for shortly after, same reason. It works!

I’m vegan. Have been for a few years.
    My wife is keto.
We make it work. And it’s very easy.
Everything boils down to planning the menu.
Do we fix a nice vegan meal for me, she eats same or some… but then we grill shrimp, fish, chicken or beef for her.
She won’t / can’t eat rice, pasta, potatoes… so those we put in separate plate.
    Her diet works for her.
    My diet works for me.
    It’s very easy.
We both love broccoli and Brussels sprouts… kale salad, etc.
So find the things you have in common that you love. Share those.
    Then separate out the others.
    Easy breezy, lemon squeezee.

43:02 where Dr. Garth Davis is talking about how your tastebuds change to crave a kale salad, etc. I was one of those people that never thought I wouldn’t want processed foods, but I’m 2+ years plant-based and the thought of some of the food I used to eat is seriously off-putting. I ate one tiny bite of a “normal” brownie recently and I had to spit it out. It tasted insanely sweet, felt greasy in my mouth, and had a chemical aftertaste. Fruits, vegetables, whole grains, and legumes are as delicious to me as fried junk food used to be! Not to mention I’ve easily lost 75lbs and feel better now at 44 than I felt in my 20s.

I recall listening to every single one of these guests while making my porridge at my office desk in the early mornings at the high school. Going plant-based was the best health-related decision I ever made in my 59 years of existence. It helped me dodge a few bullets. I was one of the lucky ones. Lower stress, reduce obesity and more exercise are key to a healthy life.
Obesity in children and adults is rising across the world.
Fast food and sugary drinks are contributing to the problem of poor health and obesity.
Eat a healthy plant based diet and exercise regularly.
Reduce or ELIMINATE cows milk, eggs, cheese and meat. Eat more salad greens, beans, fruit and vegetables. Eliminate fast food, snacks like cookies, cakes, chips, and sugary drinks and juices.
Every adult and child should own a bicycle and ride it regularly.
Regular exercise will help you sleep better. Yoga is a great stress reducer.

This CD has three separate relaxation/meditation sessions on it ua-cam.com/users/postUgkxzpa8CIfZcihW4Z0F_ja0QF3W9KIatrsq guided by a very pleasant and direct male voice. Unlike so many other products of its type, this CD does not have bad synthesizer music, does not feature a phony or affected style of narration, and does not make any bogus claims to be subliminal or to re-train the brain or any of that balderdash. What you get is 1. a guided meditation for getting into a pleasantly relaxed state of body awareness while taking a stroll (superb for those easing back into a fitness routine slowly after an illness or injury) 2. A nice long breath-awareness relaxation session that if followed diligently can put you into very deep states of full-body relaxation and mental calmness, and 3. a buddhist-inspired meditation session designed to help you develop and maintain feelings of loving kindness toward not just yourself and your friends, but toward people you don't even like. The CD makes no claims to be designed for advanced meditators or for buddhists or hindus/yoga practitioners looking for very deep and esoteric stuff. It is geared more toward the average person who just wants to develop the habit of relaxation and stress relief through natural, healthy means. him, if you happen to be reading this, keep up the good work fella, and I love your accent. I would also like to note that I have never fallen asleep while listening to this product. I would like to kindly suggest to the reviewer who said this CD makes him fall asleep, that he might want to get checked to see if he has a sleep disorder, or if he is simply not setting aside ample time for restful sleep at night. A healthy person getting adequate rest at night should be able to go into deep states of mental relaxation without dozing off, if not all the time, then most of the time.

Great presentation. I've been lax in my eating for a while, so hearing all of this information at the same time really helps. Any my church fasts from meat, dairy, eggs leading up to Christmas, so this is a good time to tighten up from vegan to whole food plant based.

This Masterclass was the BEST!!! Vegan since 2015, is great to hear from these prophets about all the different aspects of a plant-based diet. There has only been an upside for me, personally, with the exception of other peoples' attitude towards vegans.

I am not a member but I came across your videos and love them and I appreciate the free videos and am considering joining. I decided to start doing the chair workouts due to issues I have been having. By no means are your workouts for seniors or those in wheelchairs. I am extremely impressed with how hard I workout in the chair videos. I am seeing quick results and the thing about exercise is our personal effort. Whether you are creating chair workouts or standing ones isn’t the issue as much as individuals taking responsibility for the effort they put into it. There is a difference between motivating others and our effort in exercising. It’s that saying “you can bring a horse to water but you can’t make them drink.” I love the more challenging chair workouts that combine the chair and standing. In yoga we use props all the time. There are wall workouts - and the wall is just a tool. The chair is a tool. Weights and bands are just tools too. Those that don’t believe chair workouts are challenging enough aren’t challenging themselves enough with effort. In yoga and body weight workouts - our body is a tool. If we can challenge ourselves with a mat, the floor and our body and get an amazing workout. We can with a chair too.

Hi Rich, thank you for what you do and a very inspiring masterclass. You did an amazing job by spreading a positve culture and encouraging people to become more responsible about their health and general wellness. This is the time of my life where I am turning from skeptical about a plant based diet into being deeply fascinated by how much power we can have on our own lives through diet and lifestyle. I am a 47 yo marathoner with a degree in sports science, now studying food science and human well being at University. Food, exercise and lifestyle are the levers on which our health depends on. Maybe they could be the only medicines we need. In any case, the world would be a much better place if everybody became congnizant and responsible. Peace

Thanks for the great interview, Rich Roll! I've been enjoying your podcast for a year now and am always discovering something new. I've been vegan for 20 years (way before it was cool!) My choice to be vegan was always an ethical one, so I never felt peer pressure, even when partners or friends or family criticised my choice. Doing it for the sake of the lives of Billions of animals and the environment is an extremely solid fortification against any criticism. And over 20 years my resolve has only grown stronger. My initial motivation was based on very little scientific evidence, but as the research into the devastating impact Animal Agriculture has on the environment and the extreme suffering that animals endure, my original intuition has developed into a more profound and educated resolve. When discussing Veganism with non-Vegans I always try to steer the conversation away from "food" and "diet" (albeit interesting) and gently point out that Veganism isn't just about what one chooses NOT to eat, but what one gains from a life of ethical observation of how we consume and extending an empathetic view to the suffering of ALL living beings. Also, I've never heard an argument against Veganism, and after 20 years I've heard them all, that wasn't self-serving.

Suggest finding some delicious plant based recipes to go with your partner’s meat…he/she might not really like the taste of individual vegetables right now. Over time, they will likely wean off of meat and like the taste of individual veggies better. They would at least cut down on the amount of meat at one time. Lead by example - energy, youthful look, healthy weight and no diseases. Worked for me.
