This part of the book needs to be called "Drum and Drummer"
This comment is highly underrated
Oooh, that's gooooood!
Brilliant
haha, BA-dum tiss!
Well he does base his guitar off the drum so...
"We're not a metal band, we're going to get killed! so we decide to do the gig." Outstanding
He said that without missing a beat..... that's why Dave is a great drummer.
Amanda Williamson I was at the concert at Milton kynes. The ff were well received. I remember Dave being surprised, saying that he thought people would be throwing cups of piss at them. My outstanding memory from the day was waiting at the port a loos when slayer started up. There was a really weather beaten Scottish guy who was busting to have a wizz. Unable to contain his frustration any longer he cried out “Ye gods man would ya urry up, it’s slayer”. That was 21 years ago.
He said it a few secs after I read your comment.
Shane Wilson The Scottish are a backward lot.
Messages In Stone it was funny. One ugly dude.
Dave Grohl is just such a normal, down to earth guy. He’s proof that being rich and famous shouldn’t stop you being normal.
Very true
Yes! Such a kind soul! 🤘🏻💋
Dave teaching every C-lister "DO YOU KNOW WHO I AM?" douche how it's done.
hes also very well adjusted considering his time in the 90s
So true. He smees like you could bump into him at a gas station and he would say How are you?
I’m sorry but the funniest part of this story is when Taylor randomly starts wolfin down food in the middle of the interview. God he’ll be missed on every level!
I was laughing at EVERY part, especially now that he's gone -- it's all so precious now: the legs up on the sofa, the man-spreading, the correcting-details of Dave's story, the wolfing down food...
Just the fact that they were so comfortable around each other, like an old married couple; there were no "airs," no protocol, just down-to-earth guys who would behave that way in an interview, no matter who they were interacting with.
Musicians gotta eat when they can 😂
Right? I love how he's so laid-back in the interviews but then all of a sudden he'll do a tuny correction to Dave story. What a beautiful team they were....🙏
Oh, I was just thinking " hang on a minute, where did that plate come from?" What a pair they are( and I continue to use the present tense...they are still brothers from another mother). 😔🙏💗
He's so down to earth. I always laugh at interviews when he starts to eat or drink. He was really Dave's side kick!
When Dave hits 60, he needs to write a book of stories from the road
Gary Rogerson YES!! That would be epic!
yeahhhhhhhhhhh
Exactly !
Lol...I doubt he needs to wait that long. He's been drumming professionally since he was a teenager: he's seen a lot :-)
He needs to do an audio book to boot.
Dave is the kind of person you could sit in a pub with and never get bored of his stories
steve insert name. Right?! He's a master storyteller. ^_^
Absolutely! Best night in the pub ever!
Totally agree! And, despite his fame, he seems laid back enough to do exactly that with a complete stranger. I'd love to have a beer or 8 with him.
He could feed you a line of Bull...you’d never know
He's like one of the few famous ppl that I'd feel quite comfortable around I'd think actually lol
When Dave Grohl gives you a choice to ask questions or have him tell you a story: you pick story every time.
RIP Taylor, so sad to loose another legend. Love seeing the true bond and friendship between Taylor and Dave!
Very clever. Made me laugh.
This is so Tragic.❤️
The fact that they took a cross country trip together says something. I think Taylor's death hit him 10x as hard as Kurts.

"Everyone is friends with pantera, by the way, you really look like the drummer from nirvana"
AJ G 😂😂😂👍
Hahaaaa! I’ve seen the comment “The drummer looks like the guy from Nirvana” in soooo many comment sections of Nirvana and Foo Fighter UA-cams and all over the web. It’s always a joke and so well placed!
Recently, I’ve found a compilation of young Dave playing live drums at different venues (it’s sooooo good!)....one of the comments was, “Yeah, but can he play guitar and sing?” A total joke and one person didn’t get it, and was correcting the commenter, so funny!
That's cuz he was Nirvana's drummer and is now the the front man for the Foo fighters
@@adamjbutler1292 crickets
It is
This is better than having them answer the same boring routine questions they've answered 100's of times. Thanks for this!
Now I'll never know who their influences were.
@@modsquad20 Use the interwebs, they've been around for a long time and have done plenty of interviews. You'll find it. Good luck.
@@gozinta82 I was being facetious.
Now we'll never know how their band got their name : (
Yes, it saved her skin there and didn’t deteriorate her reputation?..
2:29 taylor’s like “imma eat something”
"Grandpa Dave is at it again. Aight, this will take a while, might as well grab a bite..."
I mean, the guy's gotta eat, especially if there's a show later that night.
Drummers. Either bouncing off walls, or eating. To gain the energy needed to bounce off more walls.
He's the best! See if you can find his episode of MTV's CRIBS. Chili Peppers drummer Chad Smith shows up!
He knows Dave won't need him, so go for it
That’s amazing that that girl actually mailed him his wallet back. Most people would’ve tried to sell it or something. Side note: My husband used to live in California. He had hair down to his shoulders. He was in LA at a show and Dave Grohl was there. Dave said to him, “I love your hair, man” and they did shots together! Just had to share that awesome story that I am totally jealous of.
I wonder why it took them 10 years to do it though
I bet they were holding on to it hoping they could sell it one day for big money. If they did an internet search they would have realized in those 10 years that could have contacted his manager to get the wallet back to him. I wonder how many people they showed it to?
The whole story is a movie. Write a script Dave!!
That whole trip can be made into a movie.
like fear and loathing in los Vegas lol
The Stick Of Destiny
If you think about it, his whole life can be made into a string of movies, each one probably a box office hit...

That strip club The Club House is still open till this day 😁😁🤘🏼🤘🏼🤘🏼🤘🏼✌🏼✌🏼
This isn't the greatest story ever. It is just a Tribute.
“All of a sudden, there shined a shiny doorman, in the middle of the door” and he said:
“Show me some ID, or I’ll eat your soul”.
Hahahhaa fucking great
@Jim Doire point missed.
I love Tenacious D.
"So we did just aa he did decree and we produced a f**kin fake I.D it was destiny"
"They're all about whiskey, boobs, and YEAAH". Simply wonderful.
As someone who knew Vinnie Paul & Dime - I can tell you every sentence ended w/ "Hell yeah, lets do a shot"

My heart breaks for Dave Grohl right now as he mourns the loss of his best friend.
My heart just breaks for Dave Grohl. They loved each other and losing Taylor..he must be broken.RIP Taylor.
I swear he’s the best story teller ever. He could make anything sound 10 times more interesting
Shutup meg.
Hence the name of his book. 🎶 ❤️
He could read the phone book to me, and I would listen.
@@phoenixmode6909to be fair, his phone book must be awesome
I love these guys. Rest peacefully Taylor, thanks for the music.
“So we went out for food with Taylor’s family” 😪 my heart just broke. Thoughts are with them now.
So....way back in the 90s my band have just finished playing the Rock Candy in Seattle when the promoter introduces me to this guy he called “David”.
David is really nice and is full of compliments about my band. He then hands me his demo tape and asks if I’ll check it out. It was about this moment I realised I was talking to Dave fucking Grohl and not just some fan of my band! I had to do my utmost to stay cool, calm and collected, all the way my heart pounding and knees giving way.
The penny took a while to drop as I always thought he was quite short, which he really isn’t. That’s what happens when you’re in a band with that giant Novocelic! 😂
And yes, I still have that demo tape of the Foos first album plus bonus tracks, sweet!! 😜
This is cool man
Kurt was actually reasonably tall as well if you see him in pics next to everyday people. It is just when Kurt and Dave were pictured with Krist it made both of them look short.
would you upload it? or at least the extra tracks? that would be so fuckin amazing since they haven't really released their demos at all but dave thought about releasing his everlong demo at some point
@@EchoBravo370 Kurt was average height.5-9 5-10

Imagine just finding Dave Grohl's wallet.
Imagine being Dave Grohl and been not recognize at a bar door...!!?!!?
@@DigiPal "have you heard the song smells like teen spirit" lmao
@@EpicStuffMan1000 If this story is real, the doorman in question is the dumbest one ever...
@Joe Casson Yup! I'm in the Netherlands and over two decades ago some guy in my small town managed to find some loop holes in the law and started a coffeeshop (where they sell weed... for those who aren't familiar)
Even though various political parties came into power since then they're still trying to catch them on something, no matter how small, to justify shutting them down... The cops are constantly watching them like hawks
I've known everyone who works there since we were little kids... But last year I lost my wallet and was without ID for a week... They wouldn't let me in! Had to get a friend to buy my weed for me
Over the years there have been two instances where the doorman was occupied and I just rang the bell and was let in... Then when I came to the counter they didn't ask me for ID... A few weeks ago I ran into the owner and told him this... Probably shouldn't have because he got really pissed off at his employees 😂 With good reasons though! Over two decades and one slip up could end his business forever... It's also the only coffeeshop in the entire region because all the surrounding towns changed the laws to close the loop holes he used
Id have pooped my self
I just read a tribute by Stewart Copeland, describing Taylor as being fifty, going on eight. So joyous, spontaneous, without any air of bring superior or "celebrity" but ordinary...same goes for Dave.
I was at Ozzfest when the Foos played. They absolutely killed it and went down great.
Love how Taylor just starts eating mid story. Tayler will be missed dearly.
Somebody make an animation of this story!
How about YOU do it yourself, Dagz ?
What a fabulous idea.
Yesss
Fresh Pots should be an epic anime.
The last thing he made was a MW2 montage, I don't think he has any experience in animation.
I'm just speechless. Just when I think I've heard the best Dave Grohl + Taylor Hawkins interview or story, there's another one! This is awesome.
Wow what a story!!!!!
I loved it, too. 😁
You're a liar
I thought their best was the MTV Music Awards show where Marilyn Manson played. The reaction of the Rap, Hip hop community was priceless
Agreed. Every story is better than the last.
Taylor definitely knows when he's not needed for an interview.
I wish watching this video didn't make me cry.
He follows all the main storytelling tips that Mark Twain suggests in "How to Tell a Story." People who know how to tell stories are gifts to society.
I think musicians are just a specific kind of storyteller though, so it's not surprising a legend like himself is a good storyteller.
What are those tips?
Haha that’s awesome
Yeah what are the tips
@Chrsitoprher ROgers we gonna need a good ouija board
I am proud to say, my 15 year old son sent me this video 👏💕😢
High five Dave! You have raised your kids right. Kudos to you
David Lane I know it’s 8 months later but I had to say it, that’s just DAMN GOOD PARENTING
David - thats a good kid.
Insane i was just watching this yesterday morning and Taylor passed the same day. Rip dude
I hope he gave that family something for their honesty and integrity that lasted 10 years.
What a coincidence. I'm from Barstow and used to date a girl who's parents had a Dave Grohl wallet hanging over their bar.....
Sure... and i dated Joan Jett.
You know, this is when you realise that all of this amazing artist are just people like you who need to get burgers from burger king
@@alexboyso3093 Hahahaha, that shit is almost depressing in a way. A couple years ago I drove up to Ohio to see a current favorite band of mine(Delta Sleep, represent!). My friends and I went out to this awesome burger place and had an incredible dinner. After the show, we're hanging out with the band and they're like, '"We went to white castle. It was awful. oh well..."
I would think that maybe, if you got some money, you're in a band successful enough to do international tours, you don't have to deal with shitty cheap fast food anymore. But fuck, I guess not. It's like, death and fast food restaurants: the great equalizers.
@@GVilleAnarcho White Castles and Little Kings together is a colon cleanser,
GVilleAnarcho I see where you’re coming from, and I totally agree, but you’re missing one key element to it. That these guys get finished playing probably from 10-12 Am. Whenever the whole concert is over. A lot of times, the type of restaurant your talking about isn’t open, so you have to go to white castle, mcdonalds, etc
He gets his wallet mailed back to him 10 years later, fully intact. Just amazing!
Taylor is just sunshine in every meaning of the word 💔
Dave doesn’t let Taylor get a word in!!
This story was crazy! Sounds like Paul Auster's story. I cannot imagine how Dave Grohl is devastated by this terrible lost.
Rest in peace Taylor. In my world, heaven has the best drum set waiting for you
"We were somewhere around Barstow on the edge of the desert when the drugs began to take hold."
As soon as he mentioned Barstow, I thought of Fear and Loathing too.
I can tell you, Barstow, CA, isn't on the way to Phoenix, from Los Angeles. Palm Springs, Desert Center and Blythe, CA is on Interstate 10 is, not I-15 and where I-40 starts. Might get you to Kingman or Sedona or Flagstaff, AZ

Dave is so humble its bizarre. The way he talks about other bands....He could so have a huge entitled attitude for being in Nirvana - and he is just so down to earth.
"Ages ago in 1998..." man, do I feel old
RIP TAYLOR ... :(((( what a huge loss ...
Love how Taylor is always correcting Dave. I'm in tears watching this. God Bless you Taylor. Dave know that my thoughts are with you....it must hurt to breathe.
Such a cool, down to earth bunch of guys. RIP Taylor.
Don't do drugs, y'all. They'll win every time
Drugs? Ye mean experimental mRNA technology? Had his booster days before
To right my friend 😂
Dave is a rare dude - open, honest, caring, and REAL. Read his book, loved it too. I'm NOT a fan of Foo Fighters style music at all - but I tried!
Best story I have ever heard.
I feel so sad watching this. For all the loved ones :'(
It's so sad to watch this now. He had the best smile I've ever seen. RIP Taylor xx
This man can deliver a story
I could listen to Dave Grohl tell stories for hours, I search UA-cam for videos… this was great…
whenever im depressed or drained, i come and watch dave grohls interview and i become full of light again.
@akera s. i love foo fighters but not so much their music
Yes. Listen to the end. This IS the best DG story I have heard to date.😎👍🏻
Oh. And Taylor casually wolfing down snacks while Dave tells it.🤣 I love these guys. ❤️
Dave Grohl is the best, most regular guy, rock legend ever of all time.
I'm genuinely in a state of crush for Dave Grohl. I like Taylor too.

I love how Taylor got his whole body up on the couch when Dave started telling the story.
I was at that gig in Milton Keynes. the Foos were amazing. they played the heaviest set they could and I loved every second of it.
I like Taylor in interviews 😀 He's either slouching smiling like a happy meerkat in the sun, or cracking up.
and eating 🤣
Anyone else here on a Taylor Hawkins binge?
Awww bless rest in peace Taylor fligh high ... free🙏🕊💖
Friends forever... RIP Taylor😢
Still one of the greatest dudes in Rock and roll today
I was there at Ozzfest '98. It was an incredible day. Every band was beyond superb. But I've gotta be honest, Dave was right, they weren't exactly suitable for the line up replacing Korn. The crowd were not exactly welcoming, and we started lobbing all the empty cans and bottles in the air in a kinda protest, like, you're boring us. But Dave said "Oh My God! Look at the Mexican wave of rubbish! That's so cool!" Perspective is a funny thing, we all did that as protest/fun. He saw it as a cool piece of creativity.... Perspective. But it was the best band line up of any 1 day festival in my life!
All them i would replace for one concert of Nirvana, they all dont exist if you know what i mean
He's got his story wrong about replacing Korn that day. I've still got the set list times given out by Kerrang when they gates opened and it was Therapy who replaced Korn at the last moment. I still remember the mexican during the Foos set and the sea of rubbish flying about, Awesome day!!!
Sounds like he was mocking the crowds protest in a fun passive approach called humor. It's all about perspective though........
RIP Taylor you will be missed by many.
Man that story really makes me miss the 90s!!!
Dave's wallet was like a time capsule to him when returned. OMG 1998! 😲
So good to see such a fun interview with Dave and Taylor 🙏 RIP
That really is one of the best stories I ever heard. The wallet-ending wraps is up perfectly.
Love it when band mates are true friends like these guys are
It's beautiful when we have good stories to share. This one is epic!
It's not the first time I hear this story from Dave but I stood till the end cuz he's a great story teller.
rip Taylor 😭❤️
If we ever find out that Dave is a terrible person in real life, i would be depressed and give up on life. Love him so much!
I love how he got his wallet back 10 years later and met the daughter of the owners of the gas station where he'd left his wallet while he was out shopping with his daughter. That's synchronicity right there. If he'd only known while he was standing at the door of the strip club, like the butterfly effect... like yea, I don't have my id now but it's in the mail, it'll just take ten years. 😀
I could listen to Dave’s story’s endlessly!
i would listen to his stories all day
That was such a great story!
Daves stories never dissappoint!
I need 5 hours of this please
WOW wasn't expecting that ending... So glad that they got to tell the story rather than answer questions 😅 amazing 👏👏
This just goes to show you how cool these guys are, when the heavy bands know your songs! So cool!
Only Dave Grohl could have a story like this
What's so unique about it?
leonardokula oh ok sure we’ve all replaced Korn on the ozzfest line up, made friends with pantera and lost our wallets which was then returned to us 20 years later! Fucking hell mate think before you comment such rubbish!
love it. dave grohl always has good stories.
That story just gave me goosebumps...
I'm so Stoked they mentioned Ozzfest '98 in the UK. I was there and it was flipping awesome. Best Metal Fest Ever !!
Me too. Never seen so many piercings in my life. I liked foo fighters but wasn’t a full on fan, but really enjoyed the set. I mainly wanted to see fear factory but arrived half way through their set. Ozzy was great, and really enjoyed Joe Holmes playing. Funniest part was seeing a very ugly Scottish guy plead for some one to exit the port a loo by yelling “ye gods man would you hurry up, it’s slayer!”
What a great story about recovering his wallet 10 yrs. later. Love those special serendipitous moments ❤💞🥰🥁
I saw this a YEAR ago and it's STILL my favorite story!!
I've never loved the FF music but I have always said that Dave Grohl seems like a stand up kind of guy and very down to earth. Great story!
Yes, Dave is a national treasure. We need something to feel good about right now.
He is a great story teller! Everything he said drew me in ❤️ I love Dave Grohl and he is fineeeeee
THIS is why I love Dave as much as I do - period.
You absolutely rock, Dave yet you're a family guy too. Love ya, man - I really do!!
That was awesome!!!
i love he says "side note" and then goes on to tell the main story
Dave Grohl has to be one of the most interesting guys EVER !!
I would quite happily tune in to a show weekly for an hour with Dave and other assorted rock stars sat in front of a fire, wearing pyjamas and smoking jackets and recount tales of japery over the decades.
Love the fact I'm from Milton Keynes and this story started in my hometown . all the best stories do!
My heart is broken 😢 🙏prayers to Taylor’s wife, kids & all who love him. 💔
