My 6th grade class sang this song at our elementary school graduation. Had the teachers known the song was actually about a bitter breakup they probably wouldn’t of let us sing it.
I don't think Billie ever gets much credit for how consistently spot on his voice is even after all these years.
He is pitch perfect.

I feel like this song is the opposite of bitter... it's earnest and gracious.
The output transcends the input in songs like these, vis-a-vis Billie may have had a bitter heart but he channelled it into something practically divine.

I always calculate how old I was and if I remember listening to the song at that age. I was 12 in 98 & I loved this back then and still do. Correct me if I'm wrong but I thought Billie had said this song was written for the punk culture they left behind. Once they went "mainstream" they were seen as sellouts so this was like a goodbye to that scene.
