Exactly. I’m a Swedish woman in the US and could never date a white American man. It’s too different. Black , Latino and sometimes Asian men here I connect more with culturally, it’s like they are more grounded and/or expressive. Idk how to explain it

I’m African American and Filipino and my wife is Mexican. The clash of cultures is so beautiful. Not to mention that our daughter is the most beautiful thing on this planet. The goal is just to be with somebody that respects every aspect of your life and vise versa

The cultural differences really play a big role because the first guy I dated really valued family and when he took me to meet his mom she was so rude. She was Chinese and I'm Mexican so basically she didnt want him to date a dirty Mexican. She didn't approve and he broke it off. I'm dating a Filipino now and our cultures are more similar plus his mom likes me too lol
my siblings and i are mexican/italian and german/irish but we're pretty connected to the mexican side. when my sister married a filipino man it was so cool to see the similarities and blend between cultures as both countries were ssettles by the spanish. just dont be offended when they offer you "puto" loll

i don’t think this means you should necessarily avoid Chinese people then because there are still many chinese families who would accept other minority races. i think using a general negative stereotype to stay clear of a race is not the way to go about choosing a partner. The guy later started dating my cousin's cousin, and my parents spoke of him fondly and would wave when they saw him. I don’t have a race requirement for dating but I’d say that the person having a developed racial identity (meaning they’ve reflected and processed their own racial identity and have a strong self awareness about it personally and on a societal level) is something that would be important to me. Also, inherently valuing and respecting each others perspectives and cultures and having a positive curiosity toward each other’s points of views is valuable too.
That first thing applies when dating a person from the USA. There are countries where we don’t have to worry about racial awareness, we just identify with nacionality and culture.

Americans aren't even able to tell me what race i am but believe it's rational to build their identity on it. racial identity in the US issen't based on reality, my family has more african in it than half of people in the US who believe to be black racially when they clearly aren't, if a white lady can act as the black head of an organisation fighting for her people, it's maybe time to start questioning the rationality of how people are viewed.

I’m Indo-Fijian and my husband is half Filipino, half Palestinian. There’s a lot of similarities with SE Asian and South Asian cultures, as well as middle eastern, so I feel like there wasn’t much culture clash or culture shock thankfully
There is more similarity between South Asian and Middle Eastern, South East Asia is more with East Asia.

The few times I dated out side my race I was met with a lot looks and back lash. Against there friends, and it made it rather difficult to to try to fit in with them. And even strained the relationship, so I the relationships never lasted long. It was sad.

imo upbringing, cultural values and world view are far more important in picking a partner than race. People of the same race can be vastly different depending on socioeconomic class, nationality etc., it's just that there tends to be more similarities in experiences for people of the same race but not all the time

People's parents have a massive part to play in who people would or wouldn't date, most people that have parents they are close to (because not everybody has parents they are close to/like as people) will cave in to family pressures because it's less stressful

I'm Irish living in Ireland so I didn't rly grow up focusing on race unlike Americans.
My mum does not like a lot of ethnicities. But I know she doesn't like them for cultural reasons instead of "race" reasons.
Her most hated ethnicity is the Irish travellers. They're very similar to gypsies in terms of culture. I honestly think if I brought home a traveller she would ring them up on the side and pay them not to date me. However, if I brought home a traveller who was educated and didn't practice the majority of traveller culture, she'd have a huge amount of respect for them and probablythink they were too good for me. Some of the people she admires most are travellers who are no longer travellers.
Same goes for 90% of immigrants. She looks down on them unless they fully practice Irish culture. It can look like racism on the outside, but I know it's cultural discrimination since she would be happy to accept black people as long as they're Irish (and educated).
Anyway. Its very hard to deal with my mum when she makes you feel like crap for having non-Irish friends. I definitely subconsciously choose partners she'd approve of.
This affects what races I date since most Irish people are white.
Fun fact:
My mum doesn't discriminate against mixed kids (where one parent practices an Irish culture she approves of) because she knows the Irish parent will make sure their kid knows Irish culture.
Second of all, she accepts some cultures like British, Indian, Estonian and pacific islanders. (Sorry to the Americans who thought they'd make this list, but my mum will immediately judge you negatively)

Im Mexican and my husband is white. We love each other, understand each other and connect on a whole different level. We’ve had some really good laughs being different races. Our parents love each other and hangout together frequently. It was never an issue in my Mexican household my parents just wanted us to find a person who we loved and that would love and respect us in return.

As a mixed girl (black mother, white father), it’s virtually impossible not to date outside my race. Interracial couples weren’t as common when I was born, so there aren’t as many mixed people from my generation. I’ve dated basically every race/ethnicity though. African, African-American, Caucasian (American), Indian, East Asian, Hispanic, etc. My current partner is a cishet white male (I am a cishet female). I am the first partner of color he has ever dated, but hopefully the last (4.5 years and counting now)! The key to longevity is embracing and acknowledging cultural differences instead of ignoring them! As long as mutual respect is there and AWARENESS, it will work out just fine and possibly be even better than a homo-ethnic relationship!

I think people make race matter more than it should in dating. When we talk about ethnic culture sure there are some considerations you have to make. Its understandable to want to be with someone who understands your culture, but are you saying no one outside your skin color has the capacity to relate? Are you saying that if someone checks off every box that you look for in a partner but they aren't x race then you won't date them no matter how good they look? That seems silly. Also it typically seems like people who wont date someone solely off of the color of their skin, it's often just based on negative stereotypes of the other person's culture. At the end of the day, when you put yourself in such small racial boxes you can miss out on great potential partners. Just my 2 cents.

I know this video is some months old, but i appreciate the honesty of these answers, very diverse. I keep seeing a common term though, that "love is love ❤️ " & whilst true, cultural barriers & ethnicity + race still exist & i noticed that a few answers in the video 📹 were influenced by what their parents & family thought, so things like that can be an issue in terms of dating interracially & interculturally, its kind of superficial to make it based on love alone.
