For those who see it as a very easy question not worth asking, consider this. A problem highlighted by many of these answers is that different people have different definitions of cheating, and different expectations for their partners. Often people enter into relationships assuming they are on the same page about what is acceptable. Sometimes you can clear up all the confusion by talking things out early on, and sometimes you realize down the line after making mistakes that the best option for you is to re-establish the terms of your relationship and the promises you are making to each other.
Nothing wrong with setting a zero tolerance boundary against cheating, far from it. But that's not for everyone, and it doesn't even mean the same thing to everyone.

My ex mentally cheated on me, i believe for the whole time in the relationship. He was still in love with his best friend (from what i hear a few months ago against my will they are in a relationship) He followed girls on social media and justified it with disgusting excuses. I could never trust him&i wanted to break up with him a couple of times before he did. I recognise the fact i should've just never given him a chance in the first place, however that doesnt excuse him crossing over my boundaries every chance he got. I am lucky to have such a strong foundation within myself because the mental games he played are insane and he obviously made me the bad guy in this whole thing. I am so so so so happy he is out of my life. I thank the gods every day. I don't feel the need to forgive him or any bs like that. I have absolutely no feelings for him, not even pity. But i will say this: him breaking up with me taught me some very valuable lessons i am glad i learned at 20 years old instead of later in life.

In scenarios like "I just wanted something new, it was nothing", "I was lonely", "It was a mistake, I was drunk” I wouldn’t be able to forgive… In such scenarios a person deliberately chooses to harm someone who is good to them, who trusts them. But there are scenarios where a cheater would be not the first person to do harm. For example where husbands are extremely physically abusive and their wives can’t get out of relationships and they cheat on their husband with another man who they happened to meet who are nice to them for a change and who maybe even can give the strength and support to get out. Also another example where I can understand the cheating is a spiteful cheating. You cheat on me -> I cheat on you. Although people say it doesn’t work and doesn’t make pain any less. But I understand where it’s coming from.

I know I could never stay with someone who cheated on me. I can be very forgiving and patient so there are many things I could get over and work through, and it's not even about pain or humiliation for me, all those can be overcome. It's the contempt. I've only been cheated on once (that I know of) and I still have such contempt and disgust for my ex that I just couldn't stay together. I need a partner I can respect as a flawed but ultimately good, decent person, and I just have too much contempt for cheaters that I could never respect them at all. I just couldn't stay no matter how much I wanted to.

1:28 And that's one of the reasons I don't date cheaters. We hold drunk drivers responsible even if they were too drunk to "consent" to drive. You are responsible for you actions while voluntarily intoxicated.
When I commit to someone as a partner or friend, I am willing to throw myself under the bus for that person. I demand that same loyalty in return. Cheating shows callous disregard for your partner and an escalated behavior like that indicates a baseline behavior of indifference. How does that "baseline behavior of indifference" manifest... you just saw one way: A failure to accept responsibility for your wrong doings
I don't expect my friends/partners to be perfect. Far from it. I do expect them to rectify harm they cause in a timely and effective manner

you must understand that alcohol affects the hippocampus (memory center), which is why we black out; the motor cortex, which is why we stumble; and the prefrontal cortex. the part of the brain most responsible for reasoning and judgment, It does not simply tear down our inhibitions and let loose dormant desires. It is an active chemical process, counter-intuitively fitting the definitions of “stimulant” and “depressant.” It changes nearly every part of our brain. Since our brain is who we are, alcohol does not simply let out our true, unchanged selves. It changes who we are.
Alcohol makes us happy, woozy, enthusiastic, gregarious, and loud. In some cases, an affable friend may become a mean drunk. It is a complicated drug with all sorts of good and bad effects. But it does not make us genuine. It just makes us dumb.
and this is why you can't consent while drunk, its also why drunk cheating can be an excuse.
like for example, lets say you rarely drink and your friends get you to go out drinking and ply you with alcohol and you end up banging someone when you were piss drunk, that is by definition NOT CHEATING.
