    So the B M speaker feels betrayed when the B W didn't choose a blk king yet he turns to the W W to ask what she can do to feel more accepted by B W? This is such a double standard. When the B M dates out its fighting the power yet when a B W dates out its betrayal.

      It's actually the opposite. Black men get far more hate for dating out, Black woman are actually encouraged/praised when dating out. This is coming from a black woman who has lowkey had a conversation with other black woman about wanting to date out.

    • @RoseEyed
      @RoseEyed 3 роки тому +381

      @@santolina8 But he never actually confronted HIS prejudices. Saying "I felt some type of way" isn't the same as taking accountability: "I have a habit of projecting onto interracial relationships or judging black women unfairly for being in them." He hinted that he doesn't like interracial relationships and acknowledged the stigma but not WHY it was there, the nuances surrounding it, when it is/isn't justified, or how to get over it. Nor did he approach the situation from the framework of HIM needing to confront is OWN prejudices and learn. That led to the episode coming off as shallow.
      Plus the fact that he pointed out that he "felt some type of way" about the Black woman, ignored her White partner most of the video, but then called the Black man with his White partner cute... Implied the Black community lost an educated Black woman to a White man but DIDN'T imply the same for the Black guy.... Asked the White woman if SHE felt bad about dating a Black guy, but not the Black guy if he felt bad for being an educated man who (metaphorically) abandoned Black women... And used the analogy of sexual domination to justify why a Black man dating a White woman is okay but the reverse isn't... Leads me to believe there's a LOT more Emmanuel needs to unpack before talking to interracial couples about their experiences.
      Clearly I feel "some type of way" too lol

      RoseEyed, clearly you do feel “some type of way” about it, and after reading through what you wrote, now I do too! Thanks for responding and responding with so many specifics; it helped me realize that his self-critique didn’t have a lot of depth.
      I hope that Emmanuel reads your comment and thinks about his answers to some of the questions you posed. It seems like he is committed to having uncomfortable conversations, which I applaud him for, and I’d love to see him in the “interviewee” instead of the “host” seat for a conversation about this.
      Thanks again for taking the time to respond - I saw from a different perspective today and I appreciate it.

      @@santolina8 Thanks for asking and having such a polite conversation with me. I definitely fault Emmanuel but I also understand where he's coming from. He wants to create a "safe space" for these conversations and to do that he feels the need to come off as this wise, ever calm sage. And that makes sense. BUT when he presents himself that way in a situation where he's clearly not he creates a disconnect that turns a lot of people off because you can tell he's pretending to be something he's not.
      Again, I understand where he's coming from, but an even more effective way would be if he also showed vulnerability. Not just in regards to sharing his experiences with discrimination. But with his own shortcomings as a person, his blindspots and prejudices that he needs to work on too. That way there'd still be a safe space and humility but less of a disconnect.
      I doubt he'll ever see this message. But I'm glad you did. And maybe other people will be able to reach out to him. He and his team seem somewhat responsive to the audience at least.

    An asian should’ve been the host while asking questions submitted by both white and black men and women, both in and out of interracial relationships. I believe it was the host's intention to show a bias by saying "I felt a type of way". He mentioned it first to show the bias he had and that many other blacks have to get the conversation going. Also, he said "y'all so cute" to the BMWW couple because they kissed. They were showing affection to each other and he thought it was cute. I don't believe there was a bias behind that. And if the current host were to step down it wouldn't be "Uncomfortable Conversations with a Black Man" anymore. Lastly, I don't see where you got the host feeling threatened by the white man, maybe you can tell me? I didn't catch that vibe at all. White men died like crazy trying to stop it and pulled over ships that were still doing it. I swear Americans are completely oblivious to anything that doesn’t revolve around them it’s ridiculous. Barely any slaves were even brought to America and it wasn’t even close to the most brutal. Plus only ultra rich land owners owned slaves. I cringe when I see comments that actually believe every single white person owned slaves and supported it when that’s the farthest from the truth. They also completely ignore all the whites who died in the civil war. But nope let’s just narrow it all down to an easily digestible “all whte ppl bad all ancestors bad durrr slve owners”. I am 60 years old. I like to feel I'm woke enough to navigate modern society. My sister dated and eventually married a black man. It created an minor uproar in our family, especially with our father. My feelings from the very first were that if he is a good man, treats my sister well, if she loves him then who am I to say a single word against it. He was, and IS, a good man. They are happy together and still married after all this time. I have not spoken nor communicated with our father since his tirade. In a previous episode you spoke to the practice of whites trying to raise children "color blind". That is exactly what my wife and I tried to do. Not that my children didn't notice skin color differences but it didn't seem to matter to them. Now, my oldest son is in love with a beautiful black woman and they are happy together. My prayers are that these times will not negatively affect them even though I know in my heart they will not escape all prejudice. I know growing up white in America is a vastly different experience than what you have been exposed to. My hope is that we can all find a way to set aside the ways, the evil of the past and treat each other as brother and sisters, regardless of skin color. I had hoped it would happen in my lifetime but with a leader like we have now, division seems to be the flavor of the day. I am still hopeful but not as much as before. Thank you for this series.

    The host could've done a lot better to remove his previous biases and obvious distaste for black women in relationships with white men. This either needs to be redone or fleshed out more. The questions were extremely disproportionate and proves we (and especially black men) have a long way to go when discussing these topics. I came for Rachel and Bryan and they did wonderful handling such uncomfortable questions, especially from a host that seemed to target black women. DO BETTER!

      The truth is, with the way black culture is, a white person isn't yet in a position to have a real uncomfortable conversation with a black man, unless those two people are actual intellectuals. Everyday people can't have these conversations because they won't listen to and understand each other. That's why the white people who have appeared on this show just say things like "HEARD" or say very little at all. This show is designed from the view point of, "I'm black, now do as I say." That's not how it works and why he doesn't have 100,000,000 people watching as opposed to 2,000,000. I also seriously doubt there are that many people watching, jus the same ones that follow and a few people like me who are interested to see where this is going. Try to get 2 million people to read his book, I bet you'll have very different numbers for that. Short and sweet is what non intellectual people can handle. If they see others liking it, well then it makes sense to them because they've found their echo chamber for the "oppressed".

If you're calling the black girl going with the white man the enemy and it's okay why's it wrong when it's being targeted towards a black man with white woman 🙄
