Just got these. They are better than the 3 in every way. Biggest positive for me is when I am electric longboarding even at 60kmh I don’t hear any wind at all. Past version had a big issue and let tons of noise wind in.
My question is: will the upgraded "seamless engineered leather" still start to peel and flake off after about a year and a half of regular use due to contact with sweat and natural oils on your skin? Because that's one of my biggest pet peeves with headphones that don't have very easily replaceable ear cups. I guess only time will tell.
Yes, they will. But that is an industry-standard. Every fake leather stuff is going to disintegrate as soon as the chemicals used to make the material soft evaporate. There is nothing you can do about it. If you want good Headphones with lasting earcups you have to go for real leather. Everything else will eventually turn to goopy oil or flaky stuff again. Btw. it has nothing to do with sweat and oil in general, it just accelerates the process.
Which kinda makes sense, and also doesn't. I was waiting for these because I assumed OF COURSE they're gonna have an H chip in them. But since they don't, they have zero features that put them above Sony or Bose headphones. So instead of buying an Apple product, I'm gonna by the competition.
honestly i think they failed at that anyhow. id gladly take no h chip and slightly worse transparency mode (who cares that much about that anyway) for the $200 discount.
Feeling kinda cheaped out on with the lack of the H2 chip - Not sure why they chose not to support native Apple compatibility like the beats fit pros, which are pretty great earbuds. Either way, will have to check these out to see if the sound quality is worth it. Aside from those quirks you mentioned, seems like a pretty awesome headphone. Lossless direct connection capability is a great feature. But also to be fair, the Beats Fit Pro also don't track on Find My when off.
Apple ecosystem issue. You can't dock points off of them for not having Apple features because this isn't an Apple product. Apple may own beats, but beats is still their own entity.
I have three different pair of beats and I have enjoyed all of them. Build quality is solid and I admittedly enjoy their sound profile more than I’d admit in real life talking with an audiophile.
@@mcmach1 they are all still in use constantly 🤣 I am a contractor and I keep headphones in all day long while I work. 10-12 hour days are the norm so I keep both pair of earbuds with me. I use the over the ear for the drive to work or when I’m working out to give my ear holes a break. Power Beats probably get used the most, I use the Studio buds when those die and need to charge or on weekends when I want a smaller case and profile earbud. Beats Studio 3 are the over ear headphones, those are getting pretty worn out but I’ve had them for almost five years. Lot of hard use and they still sound good they’ve just gotten beat up. Mostly listen to podcasts and audio books and I avoid playing anything very loud so the drivers don’t have to work overtime constantly. Studio buds I got when they first came out and they are going strong. Power beats are two years old and still function like new.
Hey Marques, appreciate what you and the studio do for us! I had a question, how does the noise cancellation (ANC) compare to that of the sony XM4/XM5 and Airpods Max? I was actually looking into the beats studio 3 (from 2017) because they went on like 55% off recently, but these caught me out of the blue. I'm really digging these to be good for travel, entertainment, and the noise blockage is important. *thanks for the likes/comments
I actually ditched my in ear AirPods for Powerbeats Pro (RIP to my pair) a few years ago, and more recently switched to the Beats Studio. They’re the exact same chipset, but actually fit in my ears without aftermarket silicone cups. For work and gym headphones, they’re great!
Don’t understand why people use headphones for the gym bc they get really hot and uncomfortable and have no water resistance also after a few workouts will have a sweaty ass smell to them and u also cant remove the earpads on these so good luck getting rid of the smell
Beats sound way better than they used to. I had a pair of Monster Beats Studios in 2013 and the bass was too blown out and muddy. Just got these new Studios on sale and they sound way better with a flatter sound profile.
I just got these and I’m very impressed! Great sound quality, great for phone calls and very good ANC, not on AirPods Max level but pretty good and good transparency mode too. I’m pleased .
@@Quakiest Ehh, sorta, I've had two pairs of Beats Studio and they still sit on top of your ears' edges, so you'll feel some discomfort after an extended period of time if you've got large ears. Mind you, I'm talking hours here. On the plus side, these don't have that weird airplane cabin pressure feeling that some other headphones have such as Bose's QCs.
I believe the valid reason Beats are here to stay and why the teams do speak to each other is because they market to the Beats consumer. Android users get decent products, and Apple users get a decent product with compatibility, which will sell. It won't hurt Airpods Max, and we may even take this as a sneak peek of the second generation, lossless audio over USB-C, which is significant!
You got it. Apple is catering to literally the whole market. That’s why they still used the beats name. Even non Apple users will be able to get all of those things
Just put in a Black Friday order for $160, and am hoping they make sense at that price point (I suspect they will). Waiting for the next generation of AirPods Max, figured this would be a good holdover. I’ve been wanting some over the ear headphones for a while, my AirPod Pro’s just don’t cut it for my long commute. I could have gone with many other options, but I have both an iPhone and Android (one is a business phone), a Switch I like to plug into, and an Apple TV at home I like to watch at night but don’t want to wake the family OR lose an earbud between the mattress and the bed frame. These seemed feature packed to handle all of that, and I appreciate that. Here’s hoping they work out
Hey gang! At least on my iPad I was underwhelmed by the volume and punch, but found out that the adjustment of volume on the headphones lives separately than the volume of the OS. Once I turned it up to max on the headphones, the adjustments on the iPad itself was much better. I also found that playing with the equalizer settings in the settings app for Apple Music was needed to get the sound I was hoping for. It got there, though! I think it was well worth the price 👍
I been using the studio 3s for well over 5 years now and they work as good as the first day!! Durability is insane i have changed the ear pads twice already tho very cheap on Amazon.

Granted, I’ve been using the same pair of Bose Soundsport Bluetooth phones for the last 7 years, so maybe I’m not the right demographic for this product.
I grew up in the 80's and 90's also and could barely afford a walkman, but they were very cool and I couldnt live without my bootleg indie and punk rock cassette collection, and at the time the headphones were fine for what they were....However, Forget all that for now, go get yourself some Airpods Max, connect it to your iPad or apple TV 4k, turn on a movie, and prepare to frown at every headphone youve ever heard. Also, the demographic is "people who have ears that hear stuff".

Love this review mate. I had the beats studio 3's which i abused for 2 years and then they cracked when i placed them inside my weekly grocery bag. Rookie mistake but i now have the Sony M4's and I dont think i'lll ever buy another brand now. they are superb
The size of the ear cups seem to be the middle ground for people with smaller ears and a lot of ladies' ears, but large enough for a lot of the men's sizes of ears. Make them a balanced fit for both sizes of ears. Not just catering to one. Making them big for the bigger sized ears isn't good for the smaller ears. It is too big for a lot of us smaller eared people. It's also a typical thing to have to turn off headphones (I'm not talking about earbuds 'cause people also call those headphones). It's also a typical thing with Beats headphones to use that button to pair and turn them off. So that's nothing different.
No automatic switching is a deal breaker for me. After falling in love with the ecosystem features of my AirPods Pro, I’m really looking forward to an over the ear pair that do the same that are NOT called AirPods Max. You didn’t mention hands free Siri. I’m guessing this is also not included with no Apple chip.
The video setups are always so clean, that the dirty/scratchy part on the left of the screen at 0:13 is very eye catching. Dude raised the bar so high that it's weird to see something like this. 😂
The only reason previous Beats had an Apple chip was to bridge the gap. At that time the Max’s didn’t exist yet and all Apple had was AirPods. It totally makes sense to remove the Apple chip because then they (Apple) can upsell you on the AirPods Max. I think what this may actually signal is upcoming changes to the Max. I would wager that at the very least they’ll get the USB-C port and increased battery life. Possibly the audio jack, and maybe even the sound profiles.

If you’re thinking of either of those, I’d consider the Sennheiser Momentum 4’s. They’re better with longer-lasting battery, and a lot cheaper. Amazon has them for $287 at the moment, 24% off their normal price. For Sony, their XM4’s are a better buy than the XM5’s. Beats by Dre was ahead of its time. It was the first company that made it seem ok to buy headphones that were sold $299-$499 back in 2011. Wish Apple kept letting themselves make high-quality headphones instead of making them the cheap version of the Airpod lineup
I have owned three pairs of these since they released, and my only advice is that if you listen to podcasts, you should avoid these headphones. With noise cancelling on voices sounds buzzy at any volume and they have the tendency to randomly pause themselves.
I bought the cheapest beats headphones (the ones with wire around the neck) and the H1 chip is really good for switching between iPad and iPhone/Apple Watch etc, would be a bit annoying without the quick switching
those are beats flex, and they only have icloud pairing meaning you neeed to tap their icon to switch. these have that feature but dont have automatic switching of the newer beats and airpods.
@@lingonberryjam320 oh I’m familiar with bass in Sony headphones. Part of the appeal with beats was seamless integration into my Apple devices as well. I’ve got a pair of Marley Positive Vibration XL which I use regularly, great product if you’re on a budget.

@@philipwrightonYou say that like headphones change as fast as smartphones. I've got pairs of headphones that are at least fifteen years old and still fit and sound great. It would be a sign of a terrible product if a $500 set of headphones didn't still hold up three years later.

This is truly what a lot of reviewers don't realize. Nobody buys a $1000 Gucci shoes for only utility. They also want to flex. It's the same with tech.
Apple should really go all in with beats and use all the new chips and make AirPods quality transparency as someone who has always shamelessly loved beats but also transparency of the AirPods it would be awesome to see beats on the same level especially since they’re the same company
I would instantly buy these if they had multipoint connectivity and the H chip so it worked properly for find my. I feel like Apple dropped the ball by not including these standard apple features.
People keep.buying new headphones thinking that's going to improve their audio experience. When in fact they don't consider enough the electronics, especially their DAC and amplifier. Upgrading your DAC and amplifier will make old headphones go from eh to "wow."
@@thinkhectorBut that's if someone wants to research DACs and amplifiers instead of just going for decent to premium headphones that already have their own internal dacs.

It's cheap, noisy, terrible. Not worth $100. The only downside is the matte color? WOW Glad to see you are not doing reviews as often as before, you lost credibility.
USB-C and retaining the 3.5mm jack… excellent choices, I can forgive retaining the same form factor even after _6 years_ because they made a good choice over the Solo Pro’s (which have a good redesign and better sound quality but use lightning and have no jack option).
Basically if you want a premium affordable over the ear headphones these are your best bet. If your thrifty you can find them online for 150-200$. If you have the extra money to shell out then the XM5s and Quiet comforts are better
I would consider these but earcup depth is a deal-breaker. I'm so used to thick, deep earcups that anything else just feels weird. Keen to see what they're like in person though!

My question is: will the upgraded "seamless engineered leather" still start to peel and flake off after about a year and a half of regular use due to contact with sweat and natural oils on your skin? Because that's one of my biggest pet peeves with headphones that don't have very easily replaceable ear cups. I guess only time will tell.
the airpods max cups pop right off, they are magnetic and super quick to swap
Try sweat covers from wicked cushions
Yes, they will. But that is an industry-standard. Every fake leather stuff is going to disintegrate as soon as the chemicals used to make the material soft evaporate. There is nothing you can do about it. If you want good Headphones with lasting earcups you have to go for real leather. Everything else will eventually turn to goopy oil or flaky stuff again.
Btw. it has nothing to do with sweat and oil in general, it just accelerates the process.

So these could have been the best Apple over ears by far but Apple intentionally cut features to keep selling Airpods Max’s.
@@bmgoff2011 Well I wanted these to watch movies with my wife over our Apple TV without waking the kids and you need an H chip for that AFAIK.

If it becomes a pattern, it likely means Apple will be divesting the beats brand or kill it all together. It's a suspicious omission.
Because most users aren't in apple. And we would like quality headphones to use as well :)
Apple ecosystem issue. You can't dock points off of them for not having Apple features because this isn't an Apple product. Apple may own beats, but beats is still their own entity.

I think a lot of people forget who made beats and the reason behind why they made them. The beats are great for what it was made for.
The only reason previous Beats had an Apple chip was to bridge the gap. At that time the Max’s didn’t exist yet and all Apple had was AirPods. It totally makes sense to remove the Apple chip because then they (Apple) can upsell you on the AirPods Max.
