I thought it was funny, but his suggestions made no sense. Putting the pencil on the left or right side would block the speakers. Moving the pencil to the side would look dumb and off center. And he suggested moving the camera to the side, even though he complained in the past that the camera should be centered? I think Apple. Made the right decision with still having it on the top center. It just sucks that they didn’t do this earlier.
@@martijnvanderwal3976I do get the frustration but it’s been - what - 6 years since we’ve had a proper redesign? That’s a decent run when compared with any other tech company/product. And putting the pencil on the side is a stupid suggestion - every time you drop it in the bag, the pencil flips off? And imagine the memes had they put it off centre… They’ve made the right decision and it’s tough for those who really, really, really need that pencil, but have a recentish iPad Pro. But that happens with tech products. The good news is, with Apple, we can be confident that support for legacy products will outstrip the support offered by most competitors.
Thats never gonna happen.. even if apple released a complete garbage and all the reviewers completely lambasted it, the fanboys are still gonna line up at their store..
I'm a medical resident and to tell you the truth the iPad Pro does a lot of work for me than a Mac, I write my notes on the iPad, I take my rounds updates on the iPad, I study my text books on the iPad(which is far easy than carrying a 15lb book), I do my keynote presentations on iPad, do my thesis work on word on iPad, and of course also I consume my entertainment on my iPad, its one of the rare cases but, for a medical resident, doctor or even a medical student, it can be the perfect all in one device one can have.
Can I ask what apps you use for note taking? And maybe some other apps you would recommend? (I start med school in January by the way which is very fitting to your comment)
This video shows why MKBHD is the king. Every M4 iPad review basically spewed out the same nonsense that Apple gave in the presentation, not this guy. He took his time and came up with a completely different and unique way to give his audience his opinion.
I get that but I think the other reviews are so similar because they said what it is when reviewing the same device (those more different are from artists)… here first the point seems to be different from other tech UA-camrs, which makes sense for the UA-camr I guess. Still a good review.
Nothing here was remotely new, unlike videos that were the first to break it down, first to look at nanotexture. All this video does it count to 5 and repeat the same things that were known right off the bat
@@Andreasytac Not new, but it wasn't your typical UA-cam glazing / basically free marketing. He also did have some unique perspectives. I think the hate is towards the UA-cam dribble, if you see one vid it’s usually enough to ruin your taste for it.

As a digital artist, I SOOO appreciate the sudden dramatic music when calling Apple out on their decision to gatekeep the pencil. The tech is cool, the updates are cool! But the business moves....not cool. Apple should stick to what they did with the iphone. Make it more and more accessible so that everyone is using it. I guess maybe they decided they are already at that point which I could argue for and against myself. Regardless, I decided to save the cash for something else and keep my M2.
I'm personally still rocking my pre-M chip ipad for art as well - the upgrades are not really anything to write home about. Yeah they're fancy, Im sure Procreate and other big art app companies will jump on those features for the new pencil, but ultimately they're just fancy little perks and not enough imo to justify getting an upgrade when you already have a totally serviceable device. Maybe if I was looking to upgrade anyway I'd get the fancy things, but it's just..... not really that important, yaknow. It's a lot of hype for something that really isnt helping artists anymore than previous generations already were.
Obviously, Apple now thinks the Ipad pro is only for a few rich "pro" people, not for everyone. For most of people, regular Ipad is more than enough, even no need for Ipad air.
Espcially hypocritcial regarding all the e-wast this will cause (once again!). Fortunately they omitted the plastic sticker this time around this should compensate
I use the 2018 iPad Pro for SIX years now and I still feel like I am not missing anything. It looks the same as the m4 iPad and is still super fast. That just shows me what a awesome device the iPad is.
The M4 iPad Pro is a beast but I don't think it's necessary if you're already using an M1. Let's hope that software updates can unlock the potential of these incredibly overpowered devices.
A new iPad will only be worth if we get something to actually use the power. I'd love to run either more advanced apps (including an IDE with the ability to build and run code on the device itself) or even run a virtual machine. The iPad is such a gimped device.
I’m hopeful that WWDC drops a new OS that lets you basically start using it like a laptop. I’m still on a first gen iPad Pro with no need to upgrade whatsoever so long as it’s still exclusively for UA-cam, Discord, web surfing and notes.
Chippy is like an anomaly, you're literally in the places where you'd least expect. Also side note; HELLO, can't wait for Terrarias final final final final update =P
@marques your audio is one of the best probably the best one. My job-issued Thinkpad laptop has okay speakers but your voice is super clear and pretty loud.
0:51 1. *Ultra thin:* Probably to compete with Galaxy Tab Ultra. Really good battery life but would be even better had iPad been thicker. 2:51 2. *Missing parts:* Removed ultrawide camera. Speakers are less bass-y since less room. Packaging has no more stickers (plastic reduction) but still has a (bad) charging brick. 4:57 3. *"Computer" SKUs:* Overpowered iPad stuck between iPad Air and Macs. New M4 chip doesn't affect regular iPad stuff. Also, in the past, "higher end" iPads with more storage also has more RAM- but now higher end iPad Pros also more cores of CPU and textured display option. 8:05 4. *Tandem OLED:* Bit brighter more contrast version of what we've already been seeing. Less blooming for perfect HDR content with pitch black blacks. Regular stuff won't have much difference. 9:23: 5. *Pencil Conspiracy:* New find my, squeeze sensor (selecting tools), haptic motor (confirmation), barrel rotation, fake shadow (show location of pointer). They moved iPad selfie camera to landscape location, but because of that moved Apple Pencil magnets so that the Apple Pencil Pro is only compatible with new iPad (conspiracy). *Conclusion:* get this if buying new iPad, do not upgrade if you already have iPad. Waiting for WWDC for iPad OS news.

The issue is contamination. They can’t sell a MacBook that is identical to the iPad Pro. Not at the same kind of price. Technically, it would be easy to put MacOS on an iPad Pro. Relatively. But it would be significantly slower and prone to switching problems of having iOS apps emulated and running OSX apps at the same time. Not 5%, more like 1-90% as the OS is doing different tasks. The issue is that MacOS is a lot more power-hungry. It is not designed to have apps in the background sleep in the same fashion as iOS. It’s more like a server OS, apps can run in the background because there is memory, storage and Swap. The storage would also need to be managed differently with SSD NAND, QLC and 3D TLC mix, just due to thermal and power consumption. And battery size/capacity. The core voltage would also need to be higher to accommodate peripherals and storage, which creates more heat and bulk, dealing with power management hardware. The iPad Pro can handle 1-2 devices, but a MacBook handles wider range and parallel devices, higher wattage, more bandwidth and more ports. Simply because it has a bigger battery and a wider bandwidth allocation. If they set up a partition and double the RAM to allow MacOS to run iPadOS… then you have a worse iPad, and a better laptop with a weaker battery. The iPad is designed for low power consumption. A laptop is designed on balance for performance and efficiency. The tech is feasibly there to achieve a hybrid iPad Pro but, the battery life is not.
Best argument for Ipad existance. Still don't know why is so hard to make crossover apps for two processors with the same architecture in a company that make both kernels.
A note on the power brick, I've had issues where my iPad won't gain charge and only hold steady under use. Enough use will drain the battery while plugged in. A charger should always cover the maximum discharge rate a battery puts out.
You shouldn't be charging while in use. It can wear down one battery cell faster than the others in a process called Rapid Cycling. Also if it gets too hot it will slow down or even halt charging automatically to protect it from permanent and irreversible damage. Read the instructions on lithium ion batteries.
@@hyperhippyhippohopper while plugged in, the device shouldn't be using the battery, only charging it. That shouldn't cause rapid cycling. ofc if the power brick is too weak, then the device might have to drain the battery to cover power spikes. which is why the brick should be powerful enough to power the device on its own
@@hyperhippyhippohopperthey literally market the iPad as a portable Mac. Does your Mac battery die when it's plugged in. What a stupid take I mean you are apple user so I shouldn't be surprised
My current iPad Pro is from 2018 and is still working perfectly. We just got “new” iPads at the school I work at and they’re literally the old ipad airs from 2015! I’m not gonna upgrade anytime soon, but I am considering upgrading my case to something more laptop-like. I use my personal iPad more than any other device.
I replaced a MacBook with an iPad Pro. 3 months later, after frustration after frustration every single day, I switched back. Stay with a MacBook. If they release a MacBook with an iPad-like touch screen and adaptable touch OS interface, then that would be perfect. But until then, stay with a MacBook for serious work.
@@SunnyWinterz The iFold will probably be that, the hybrid fold device both macbook, ipad and dual screen in one, probably gonna cost more than the vision pro though.
@@hazori9551 The problem isn't the device. It is with the OS. If you had macOS on an iPad, most people wouldn't need to get a MacBook. And that's why, the iFold won't have the macOS either, otherwise the Macs won't sell, and Apple aren't stupid.
I'm still using my 2018 iPad Pro from before the M series of chips and it still work really really well. Apple hasn't really given me a good reason to update in almost 6 years and at this rate it might be a while before I update again. Great vid like as usual.
That’s great an old iPad holds up so well. Even my iPad Pro 2017 is still good but I will appreciate the jump in features… I would like to save money but I know I will enjoy a lot the upgrade.
Watching this on my 2014 iPad Air. The battery is a bit tired, but my only reason to upgrade is creeping software incompatibility. The 2022 base iPad is looking good.
I pre ordered the air. I had the iPad 6th gen before. What I realized these tablets are best at is Remote Desktop into a windows 10 machine running tablet mode.
Marques changing his content to stand out from the crowded tech reviewers is a change I am all in for. Looking forward to his next roast of tech products.
Making the IPad thinner, reducing the battery capacity but keeping approximately the same battery life thanks to the M4 INSTEAD of just keeping the same thickness and giving the new IPad Pro more battery life is like the most Apple thing ever. The things Apple does for marketing just to avoid giving the IPad actual desktop programs, making sure to not kill off the MacBook lmao
As an 13inch M1 ipad pro user since day 1, the biggest thing i want from it is to be lighter. It is a large device and get heavy to hold while watching videos and walking around, so anything to make it lighter makes it a product that easier to use for longer. I think thats what Apple is optimising for.
It’s very Apple. And I know it’s wild, but I feel like it could be thinner/lighter. I can hold it with one hand, but it’s still too heavy for that to be perfect. It shouldn’t come at the expense of battery life or performance though. So all weird choices.
My M4 11" as almost the same battery life as my m1 11" and i just wish they made it to the thickness of the camera bump and just gave us more battery. Really annoying.
@@taylor92493 but it didnt come at the expense of battery, its still the same battery life but now lighter. You can demand more battery life but they literally gave what you asked for, thinner/lighter without the expense of battery life
@@taylor92493 Well I believe there should be a lighter IPad, let’s call it the „Air“ and make that for your average customer that watches Netflix, reads emails and does other media consumption on it, and there should be a beefy iPad for the real professionals that work with it, have it nearly the entire time on their tables anyways and idk, the Ipad „pro“ would be a fitting name for that device I think. Sorry for the sarcasm
I appreciate Marques, because unlike other tech channels that try to hype the reason for buying a new iPad in part because Apple ships them on to review. Marques talks about what really matters, like why make it thinner why not put a bigger battery? Why do I have to buy the new pencil? Why not make it an option not a necessity when I already have the Apple Pencil 2?
The shadow does serve a functional purpose and isn't totally unnecessary. It's quite an important visual feedback for how the pen is going to stroke, specifically for pen tips with different widths/lengths.
At the end of the day, it's a tablet with mobile software. Putting in that much power doesn't really make sense other than a demonstration of what the company can produce 🙊
2:57 ok seriously what is that black hole that is next to the camera and the LED flash (not the LiDAR in the top left but the thing in the bottom right)?
@@happybroski2112it’s an ambient light sensor for the true tone flash’s new “ambient lighting capabilities” that it uses to remove the shadows when scanning documents.
@@greatbathindianI could see your point if skins were necessary. Being that they’re more of a customizable thing that you get for design purposes, their target audience is probably people who can afford to spend a little more.
Just want to note, as someone who uses an iPad daily, that a thinner iPad means less width with a case added. When you have a keyboard too that is more thickness. So while it's not a huge deal, i think it's something you miss if you review without considering a case (which imo is pretty integral to using an iPad regularly)
That's one thing apple gets right with there iPads and iPhones. My grandmothers iPhone 8 still runs as quick as it was when it was new. They do a good job keeping the majority of the performance close dispite the spec changes.
I bought an 11" iPad Pro back in 2018, still running strong as well. When I worked for Apple, I debated on a laptop or an iPad, well there were next to zero support calls for iPads, so I'm very glad on my choice. It only saddens me that there is no simple tool for generating SVGs. Rather maddening that unless I step up to some $160/year option, I can only create SVGS wither on my WINDOWS machine or some 3rd party website. For my uses, this is literally the ONLY thing that is preventing me from being 100% reliant on the iPad as my sole 3D printing modelling machine. Otherwise, for being 6 years old, the battery holds up ridiculously long time and unless I'm way from home, it's always plugged in.
I bought but thinking to return to do the same. I use it for art too. The M4 1TB 13" is snappy, some brush lag issues are gone but the 2018 had barely any issue to begin with. If working with video though, it is about x4 faster rendering and overall much smoother once you begin piling on effects in Davinci 3D Nomad you will be able to subdivide models to levels were you can get realistic pores on an "average properly topologized head bust sculpt" with the m4 vs being stuck around 5 with 2018 1TB (extra ram in this model too) which is good but still would need a bit more for realism and stability. I'll probably return and will wait to see WDC. Hopefully there will be more incentive keep by then. I can't justify the value with the price $2600USD-ish (tablet+pen+keyboard) It makes more sense to use desktop tools with their entry level macbooks using the 2018 with sidecar (which works extremely well now, lag was reduced significantly). It's Apples plan make this the option, annoyed but always how they do business.
I got a refurbished 2018 ipad pro back in 2019 and it still feels incredibly nice to use. It helps that I don't use intensive creative apps much but whenever I dabble the performance is great. I won't be surprised if the thing is still going strong 5 years from now while they put out the M10 or whatever.
This is a tired cliché. Just because you don't have a use for it other than entertainment doesn't others don't! It's a great artist's canvas, prosumer video editing, audio and photo editing. The people who want one just for entertainment will buy iPad, mini and air!

The M4 is Apple's first full ARM V9 chip as well and supports certain types of multiplicational executions the previous M chips don't have with ARM Version 8. This is why the binned chip and the full chip score so similarly, because the benchmarks aren't testing for the new types of instructions yet. So we won't know how they really stack up until Geekbench and others update their benchmark apps.
It's just there's not really anything to actually use all that power on. It's still only running iOS. Even for the niche things iPads are actually good at productivity-wise like art, the new Pencil features are a bigger deal than the CPU.
@@marcust123 Some iPad M4 reviews compare performance using real tests like FCP, and it is clear that the M4 can be much faster. Whether that is important for you is another question, but claiming it isn't a big upgrade is untrue and unfair. For people that use these pro apps the M4 will save them time and that means money.
@@andyH_England i tested it myself and i could not see a difference maybe 1 or 2 apps will take advantage of the new chip like 3d rendering etc but even then the m1 can still do that yes if you can do performance tests i did that aswel and m4 will come out on top significantly but when you use them in the real world there is not much difference at all except for the nice oled screen i returned my m4 and kept my ipad m1
As an artist locking the new pencil to the crazy expensive iPad (if I want the same equivalent to what I currently experience with M2 Pro) REALLY ticks me off. I could afford a new pencil, but paying 1,600 in order to just use the pencil? Nuts. And then I can’t even have my old pencil as a backup 😂.
@@TomJones-tx7pb What I don't like is that the Apple Pencil doesn't work if it's not paired. Every now and then my Apple Pencil would disconnect from my iPad Pro M2 while I was drawing and stop working until it paired again. I prefer the way on the Microsoft Surface that the Surface Pen can still draw while not paired, it only needs to be paired to use the buttons.
MKBHD failed to mention that the new Apple Pencil Pro also works on the new more affordable iPad Air M2. This would still require an upgrade, but you don't have to buy the highest-end iPad to use the new pencil features if you are an artist and you would benefit from those features.
You have to accept that if you work on apple, you will always, always be milked to the max. It's their DNA. Their valuation on wall street is such because of that.
This is exactly why Marques' conspiracy theory makes no sense-any Pencil sales Apple gains from moving the magnets are more than offset by the sales they would have gotten if they didn't have to do it. *Tons* of people would have spent $129 on the Pencil Pro for their older iPads, but almost nobody is going to spend $1,000+ on a new iPad just to get the Pencil Pro.
Let's just appreciate honesty of Marques, compared to other 99% UA-camrs out there making people buy latest and greatest - things that people don't even need, just so they get sponsored or are sponsored by the brand of that product. We need more healthy critique and actually letting brands know what customers want and need instead of having 10 new features that doesn't fix the main concerns that people have with the product. Well done! And yes I am also sticking with M1 iPad as I barely even use iPad - mostly when I travel, usually MacBook and iPhone are the devices I use on daily basis.

@@DEVICMedia Actually, I would recommend people waiting for WWDC before using your viewer clout to recommend keeping the M1 over the M4. But after WWDC, he can do an "I was wrong" M4 video!
The whole environmental go green thing cutting out power bricks, headphones, charging cables, stickers, etc is just a way for them to make more money after a sale. They should drop the price as they cut out items required to use the device.

9:47 NOT "totally unnecessary" AT ALL for people without good depth perception. A pencil's shadow is the way many without good eyesight could tell how close to the paper their pencil is. On a display, you obviously loose that shadow so this is a very intuitive way of making things much easier for artists and writers who don't have great eyesight.
95% sure he means "unnecessary for Apple to make sales." The few people who are getting this just for that feature won't make the smallest of nicks in the sales figures. Which means that it was genuinely done just because it'd be nice for people to have.
Artists who can't see an object hitting another object aren't gonna benefit from the shadow. Not to mention they've had a tool for those artist for centuries now, they're called glasses.
I think they made the iPad thinner and lighter to help with the balance issue with the floating Magic Keyboard, so they can remove the extra weight in the keyboard and make the whole package much lighter.
I'm an artist, and the M4 iPad Pro is a much-needed improvement. The increased RAM and CPU performance will enable me to 3D model and render all on my iPad using the upcoming ZBrush beta. It's great being able to work on final products on the go.
The main point of making it thinner and reducing the weight it to reduce the overall weight and thickness when you use it with a case. The Ipad Pro 12.9 M1 is already quite thick without a case, but with a keyboard and case it becomes quite chonky so I'm happy they made this decision. This is why I'm excited about next year's iphone as well!

I came from the Surface Pro 6th gen to M1 iPad pro. The surface is a laptop replacement! iPad Pro is still a tablet. For the work of showing stuff quickly the UI snappyness of the iPad is welcome. But for the price, the surface is reasonable choice as it costs as much as laptop, but actually comes close to it software wise. You will not always be the IT weak link (the iPad guy) on the team. So, if the interest is a laptop, go surface.
@jonparks3 it's the direction it should go but they won't do it because it could potentially cost them mac sales which is the wrong way to look at it. I had a macbook pro, iPad pro and iPhone 15 pro max and I've got rid of all of them only now I realise just how restrictive apple was
Who spends over a $1000 to watch Netflix or browse the web???? Perhaps in the USA that may be “normal” but there are the former iPad Pro or Tab S8+ or Tab S9 lineup which use OLED, cost the half at the moment and for those tasks they are already overpowered and people can use them for almost everything. I really start laughing silently when I hear “I have an iPad Pro” and “to watch movies and web browsing”
10:27 I could see the shadow thing being pretty useful. I'm sure to a certain extent you use shadows with paper to identify where your pencil is and how far away it is from surface and stuff.

People weren’t necessarily asking for thinner but were asking for lighter and the only way of doing that was by making it thinner without losing screen size . If they kept it as thick as last year and added a bigger ( heavier) battery, the object of lightness would have been defeated.
A Matte screen protector is significantly reducing screen quality and feel. Apples matte finish is actually etched into the glass and it looks and feels 10x nicer than any matte screen protector.
Thank you MKBHD for mentioning about the M1 iPad Pro still being a powerhouse for already what it is and can pretty much do everything like an iPad would do for browsing, UA-cam, and other tasks. But the business moves....not cool. Apple should stick to what they did with the iphone. Make it more and more accessible so that everyone is using it. I've been waiting to hear your take! If someone did not have either, would you recommend the M2 or M4?

A Dex mode for IPad which turns it into a simulated MacBook would be a game changer
Absolutely
1000%
Macbooks are macbooks, ipad cant replace it, gaming and creative apps can save ipads
That might actually be an issue with your iPad, mine doesn’t do that
You shouldn't be charging while in use.

Making the IPad thinner, reducing the battery capacity but keeping approximately the same battery life thanks to the M4
INSTEAD of just keeping the same thickness and giving the new IPad Pro more battery life is like the most Apple thing ever.
You can demand more battery life but they literally gave what you asked for, thinner/lighter without the expense of battery life
@@taylor92493 Well I believe there should be a lighter IPad, let’s call it the „Air“ and make that for your average customer that watches Netflix, reads emails and does other media consumption on it,

Engineered obsilencence haters unite! ✊
I bought but thinking to return to do the same. I use it for art too. The M4 1TB 13" is snappy, some brush lag issues are gone but the 2018 had barely any issue to begin with.
If working with video though, it is about x4 faster rendering and overall much smoother once you begin piling on effects in Davinci
3D Nomad you will be able to subdivide models to levels were you can get realistic pores on an "average properly topologized head bust sculpt" with the m4
vs being stuck around 5 with 2018 1TB (extra ram in this model too) which is good but still would need a bit more for realism and stability.
I'll probably return and will wait to see WDC. Hopefully there will be more incentive keep by then.
I can't justify the value with the price $2600USD-ish (tablet+pen+keyboard)
It makes more sense to use desktop tools with their entry level macbooks using the 2018 with sidecar (which works extremely well now, lag was reduced significantly).

This is what prevents me from relying upon an iPad as a drawing device.
Well done!
And yes I am also sticking with M1 iPad as I barely even use iPad - mostly when I travel, usually MacBook and iPhone are the devices I use on daily basis.
agree. coz he can now but them without relying to sponsorships so he can say more unbiased reviews. he's also more on apple user so he is much accustomed to its ecosystem so he can discuss its pros, cons and his disappointments.
Sooo he sincerely thinks there is no real need for me to buy a new iPad, yet for “some” reason he’s urging me to purchase a leather-skinned iPad case. Honestly???🙄🤷🏾
@@Tonabillity he sad he is using M1 iPad himself and no need to upgrade for to M4, and he recommended people to buy if have older iPad models. Which all makes sense, also the leather skin as you've seen is not only for M4 but any iPad/iPhone as well - just general ad that's added to the video.
@@DEVICMedia I know.
I have no need to buy the new iPad if I already own a recent one.
However I should buy a new leather iPad case for Reasons 🤷🏽♂️
@@DEVICMedia Actually, I would recommend people waiting for WWDC before using your viewer clout to recommend keeping the M1 over the M4. The M4 has serious upgrades if you do the tests, and of course, if AI is BIG, then the M4 will be a no-brainer upgrade for real professionals (not people who buy the Pro to get the luxury features).
But after WWDC, he can do an "I was wrong" M4 video!
Just like you I had the m1 and only now upgraded. I will say the weight reduction is nice, and the screen is gorgeous.
The whole environmental go green thing cutting out power bricks, headphones, charging cables, stickers, etc is just a way for them to make more money after a sale. They should drop the price as they cut out items required to use the device.
10:50 they had to reaarange the components
*proceeds to put a clip of jerry decimating the ipad☠☠☠😂
Artist here. FYI, the new pencil is GREAT. Feels like a huge upgrade. Using it with 13” air and I couldn’t be happier.
But for now there's only haptics and the hover right? I don't have access to any of the new procreate roll and squeeze features that have been demoed and its not even announced when they will release.
What have you drawn?
I tried the same combo in a store the other day. You're right. New pencil is superb. Squeezing it reminds me of the haptics on the AirPod stalks.
Ok buddy
If you're an artist, shouldn't you have maxed out on like the best version of the M4 with the Nano texture. But that would have been like $4,000 or something lol
The last iPad I had was the 1st gen iPad Air and it was just a « cool gadget » I got myself the m4 and it’s a real beast, Photoshop, Lightroom, I can have a full (almost) professional workflow for photography on the go, with just a camera, a cable and the iPad, it does make a difference from my previous iPad experience, the technology gap is huge, glad I bought one
Does LR cull your photos for editing on it? I’m considering but wished it was full version LR
That is a huge jump. Cool.
@@Normalyz To cull photos you tap the star on the bottom right panel and then you simply swipe up to pick a photo and down to reject it
The mental gymnastics used to justify a terrible purchase lol. A Macbook is also on-the-go destroying the ipad on pretty much anything
@@imvalentin lol, everyone has their own reasons to purchase devices, I find it more handy to work on pictures right on the iPad, I have both a laptop and an iPad, they are complementary and my usage is different depending on the device I’m using…
In the 80s, I knew a programmer who wouldn’t touch a computer when he got home. Total burn out. I am 56 now and feel the same way about so much technology that is coming out at such a fast pace. I simply don’t care about these details anymore. My 2017 iPad Pro still does everything I needed to do, except hold a longer charge.there is no reason to get a new device such as this if there is no software to take advantage of the hardware.
3:20 -Forget the iPad, I want that paper
Me too
Thanks I appreciate your review. I am surprised by most of the other reviewers gushing over skinny and glossing over way more expensive.
He seems much more honest with his reviews this year as compared to last couple of years, and i am loving it!
Yeahhh there's no false sense of excitement or hyping boring features.
@@Jarvis2077I found these “honest” reviews weird because I loved all the little upgrades. I was expecting much less. So it chokes me (a bit) the negativity about what I found out to be so cool.
Because he is now so big that they can't just cancel him. There was even recent fiasco about Marques about killing a product AI Pin from Humane.
It was only because he was honest in his review.
I bought the 13 inch and I love it. I wish they would do a 15 inch one soon. I feel like with the screen this good and multitouch UI, I won’t go back to Mac ever again. iPad Pro 15” is the future!
I’m still using my M1 ipad pro, which is more than enough for my daily needs. Always love your content, mate!
Yeah I just don’t see the upgrade I’m tempted with the trade in program but it’s still expensive
Same here. I was just looking into trading my M1 12.9 for the 13 but it’s still expensive. Best Buy gave me a higher trade in than apple. But the M1 still gets the work done.
Its a very helpful review. I much prefer your honest approach to teach. Thank you!!!!
Finally a video for the M4 iPad Pro from MKBHD (again)
You should be able to listen to music and videos at the same time. Reducing to a single audio source is insane. Even if secondary audio is reserved for just music I think that’s fine. Even if it’s reserved for just plugged in mode and headphones
Virtually no one cares about this.
If you're an artist with bad eyesight maybe it's time to find another hobby
Artists who can't see an object hitting another object aren't gonna benefit from the shadow.
Not to mention they've had a tool for those artist for centuries now, they're called glasses.
@@gitnjur Yes, but glasses can't fix vision loss in one eye. You need two eyes for depth perception.
That shadow details for pencil. Love it ❤
my fav youtuber been watching him since 2012
watching him gives me nostalgia♥
I think they made the iPad thinner and lighter to help with the balance issue with the floating Magic Keyboard, so they can remove the extra weight in the keyboard and make the whole package much lighter.
Always appreciate Marques' fairer take on these products.
I'm an artist, and the M4 iPad Pro is a much-needed improvement. The increased RAM and CPU performance will enable me to 3D model and render all on my iPad using the upcoming ZBrush beta. It's great being able to work on final products on the go.
Apple and Tim Cook are masters at pricing structures at @10:25
Greed and slowing down Apple’s innovation, Tim Cook!🧑🍳
This was incredible and so thorough. Thank you! I loved the magnetic paper..so cool.
The main point of making it thinner and reducing the weight it to reduce the overall weight and thickness when you use it with a case. The Ipad Pro 12.9 M1 is already quite thick without a case, but with a keyboard and case it becomes quite chonky so I'm happy they made this decision. This is why I'm excited about next year's iphone as well!
keep going with your honest review
I love the squeeze haptic feedback feature of the pencil. I find myself fidgeting with it, like clicking a pen.
The brick complaint is 100% valid. It was my first thought opening the box.
Google ditches Project Ara and gives us a boring phone upgrades, Apple Makes a powerful tablet that only can browse the web and stream videos
this is correct, bcs aside from their marketing gimmick, any other heavy games, apps, heats up like a hot potato
Just add to the long list of things google ditched making…
People with no imagination or kids thinks this tiny about the iPad.
@@manart6506People with no good justification for their overpriced purchases make this response. We all know that 99% of the people who will buy it will do so for prestige and not for the new features
You're not an artist or editor then with that logic

I'm so glad there's a reviewer out there speaking the truth that it's just an iPad whilst everyone else seems to be trying the sell the thing. I wanted another iPad pro but I'm considering a surface pro now at least that has desktop apps
I think this is exactly where the iPad Pro is going. The screen is shaped like an iMac, just add software and a keyboard.
@jonparks3 it's the direction it should go but they won't do it because it could potentially cost them mac sales which is the wrong way to look at it. I had a macbook pro, iPad pro and iPhone 15 pro max and I've got rid of all of them only now I realise just how restrictive apple was
Option 1 me too 2:42 2:42 2:42
4:55I honestly wish the went the angle of:
“it’s a portable movie theatre experience!”

I am upgrading from the a12z iPad Pro. I am glad I waited this long, going from a12z to M4 is going to be awesome!
Same! Plus if you are like me i have the 11inch, which is LCD to now Oled. That alone is great, then we get all the M chip exclusives like the new AAA games.
@@Everyday-man What are some M exclusives? Been a few years since I've purchased any games on my 2018 iPad Pro (A12x) .. Divinity Original Sin 2 and everything else I've tried runs great.
I'm considering the upgrade for music production -- running multiple instances of demanding plugins like Moog Mariana, which can take 30-40% of A12x's DSP power.
@AdamsOlympia yes those games all run fantastic. The M series only are Resident Evil 4 Remake, Resident Evil Village, Death Stranding and Next month June Assassins Creed Mirage. Not a huge amount yet, but it looks promising for more :)
@@AdamsOlympia I upgraded from a A12x 12.9 to the 13 1 TB and I think it was well worth it. The battery on my 2018 was laughable compared to this one, and besides the display, I noticed it runs WAY cooler than the A12x did.
@@Everyday-man Always love to hear about PC/Console AAA titles being ported over
The M4 iPad is capable of anything current generation consoles can handle. The GPU is roughly equivalent to a 4060 ... Which smokes the Steam Deck or any other portable gaming device I know of.
I have a 2018 ipad pro and I'm loathing the day when it is too old and stops getting updates. I might get a replacement when that day comes.
Finally! I’m not going to buy one, but I was waiting on the MBKHD video on it!
Finally! a good review.
I really appreciate that it is lighter now because my bag is too heavy whenever I bring my ipad with the case anywhere and everywhere as a student
I love that now you can finally change the battery as easily as you used to with an old Nokia phone.
I have the same iPad as you and I’m absolutely updating to this one
I just upgraded from an M2 lol. Worth it for me. The screen is gorgeous, the new pencil features are great, and I love how thin and light it is. It’s my main school and art device.
It’s a solid first iPad for me! I got the 13” with a Magic Keyboard mostly for work (BCAs, emails, streaming, calls and other productivity), and it has fully replaced my MacBook. It’s significantly lighter and way more mobile, and handles all the necessities I need it for like a beast. With only taxes the day I bought it to pay, and a very minor addition to my wireless bill to finance it, it’s a fantastic purchase for me honestly!
It is my very first IPAD PRO! Gosh. I love it as an email documents as well. I hope I can maximize the use of it.
This is iPad is absolutely wonderful for one practical purpose. Professional creative work. That being said there is only 1 unique situation where the iPad is the best for creative work and that's using Procreate. All other softwares are just better and faster elsewhere. I look forward to that changing but we're not anywhere near an ipad being a main useful machine yet. Thank you for the review Marques and team.
Still using 2nd gen 12.9” iPad and it’s still working great
People weren’t necessarily asking for thinner but were asking for lighter and the only way of doing that was by making it thinner without losing screen size . If they kept it as thick as last year and added a bigger ( heavier) battery, the object of lightness would have been defeated.
I don't know why no one is talking about how you can just apply a matte screen protector for $10 and get literally the same "nano-textured" finish
An art channel showed the different reflective levels that would offer vs the nano textured screen. Apparently it feels different too.

At this point, if you already have the beginning iPad Pro M series chips or even M2, there is no need to upgrade an iPad unless it breaks or pretty much gives out, so I am loving my M1 iPad Pro for what it does and can still use my 2nd gen Apple Pencil

I still do EVERYTHING on my 12.9-inch 2018 iPad Pro, (no really) and it still screams on speed, streams PS5 content beautifully, has cameras and a processor that still holds up just fine- whether innovation is slowing or it’s a testament to Apple’s overall workmanship, I don’t feel remotely compelled to upgrade my nearly *6-year-old device.* It’ll happen eventually, of course. But not anytime soon!
