Side note: as a cleaner, stick vacuums are the worst. I've cleaned houses where the owners excitedly told me they'd "upgraded" to a stick vacuum and OH GOD I could only smile while screaming internally. Sure, they're very handy to quickly suck up crumbs, and they're easier to carry up and down stairs, but when you got to vacuum a whole house your wrist is going to hate you after the first half hour. And vacuuming under furniture is no fun because unlike a hose vacuum that you can easily shove under there with one hand, stick vacuums are heavier and you have to bend/squat down, all while keeping your hand on the button otherwise it turns off. Not to mention battery life is a pain and oftentimes the damn thing died on me halfway through the 2nd floor and I had to resort back to broom and pan :(
I was thinking about getting a stick vacuum but this is a good point, thank you for keeping me from that purchase lolol. What kind of vacuum do you recommend?
@@bookaddict209 Get one with a filter or a canister, never one with a bag. Bags are disposable, get clogged and need to be replaced. Filters? You just wash them and dry them in the sun. Canister ones suck up liquids too. Don't go for a generic brand, but don't overpay
@@bookaddict209 To add to gabotron94 with a brand recommendation: I got the Shark Pet Vacuum (don't know the *exact* model) four or five years ago. I had (at the time) all carpets in a 2400 sq ft home (minus kitchen and 2 bathrooms). I haven't had to purchase a new one and it is exactly what she/he(?) is talking about - a canister with filters. Never had to replace the filters, just wash them out. I have 3 dogs (4 at the time; one was a foster that found a forever home), 7 cats, several rats and have had more than a score of baby chicks in a brooder (those create hella dust) at different times. 100% worth the $170ish dollars I paid at the time. I was also a maid for two years in SoFla and flat out refused to use customer Dyson stick vacuums or knock-offs for the EXACT reasons OP stated.
Personally I can see your points, however I dont think they apply to everyone. For example we have had our cordless vacuum cleaner for close to 3 years now. I agree, it was tiring on our shoulders at first (wrists not so much) , but After a little while you truly get used to it. My shoulder does not hurt any more, even when using it for a prolonged period. I guess it highly depends on what vacuum you buy, I am sure some are more heavy than others. I also cant confirm your issues with vacuuming underneath furniture. Back when I used my corded vacuum I still had to bend down to clean underneath furniture. I dont find using my cordless vacuum any more tiring. And whether the battery lasts for an entire vacuum of the house highly depends on the size of your home, the vacuum you have. Our vacuum is now three years old and while the battery life sure has suffered and gotten shorter, we can still manage to vacuum our entire place on one charge (200 sq. m.). We have a xioami vacuum btw. Our specific vacuum also has a Button to keep the vacuum running so you dont have to continuously press the button.
What I love is that Dyson job was served MKBHD just advertised their vacuum cleaner, blade less fan and hair dryer all in one video multiple times and mentioned how much he likes them.

@@killemusen It’s what we call a “new product category” in the industry it can take ten years but by that time the product is refined and in use by many people
This was a very fun video to watch. Also I really appreciate you called an expert to explain the product from medical point of view. Great video as always.
From an engineering perspective, it's pretty amazing to create a motorised air-purifier system that fits on your head, even if it is completely unnecessary.
it's just 2 tiny fans and 2 layer of filters with some vents running aroung on your ears. I honestly dont see anything impressive. The idea though, is wild.
From the look of the filter, it's for physical filtration only (e.g. dust). To remove chemical vapors (gas, "porta-potty", etc.), you need different materials (usually activated carbon). Dyson tried to make a PAPR which doesn't need a seal but at least they admit it's not a medical grade. I knew this product was a joke the first ad I saw. Glad you called them out on this one!
Honestly Marques this is the most complete review you have ever done or damn near it. From start to finish every thing was well said and the writing for theses headphones was excellent. You covered all of the tech as normal but when it came to reviewing the health benefits for a pair of headphones you covered what you could explain and then you brought your friend that specializes in the medical field to further analyze and breakdown that criteria for the potential customers while being honest, unbiased with personality. I love it 🙌
@@addium3151 Dubious. Technically a speaker has a moving membrane, but when thinking of engineering, no one really thinks of speakers as a moving part because they are exceptions in terms of the 2 relevant things. 1. power consumption, and 2. failure rate
@@addium3151 not at all in the same way. Starting up a fan uses a lot of energy, and I assume these are constantly having to push the motors to keep the fans going.
What he meant by Dyson sphere is different guys. That’s a fictional concept where they cover the full sun with solar panels to get the maximum energy from it.

I used to work at Dyson and honestly all of us in the non engineering departments thought it was a joke, yet another random thing the engineers work on that gets canned after years of development and £££££ - but here we are!
That ending was amazing and I'm glad you saved it until right at the end. It suddenly put all of your talk about how awesome Dyson is as a company and how good their vacuums are (all very valid things to say) into an entirely different light. It started out as "you need to know who these people are" and ended with "this was just a vacuum advertisement."
As a person who sleeps with a CPAP machine, if I were commuting by train for several hours a day, I would want a version of this product that would create a seal, warm the air, and have a moisture reservoir to ensure my nose doesn't dry out. Basically a product that's a portable CPAP machine with noise-cancelling headphones, would be perfect for sleeping on a long-distance train/bus/coach/plane.
Well i've got great news for you, there's a whole lot of travel CPAP machines available under 1100€ (price of this product) and guess waht, you just need to put headphones on and voilà le tour est joué.
I;ve got sleep apnoea & a cpap machine, the whole point of that is it provides high air pressure that keeps your throat open whilst asleep, while you're awake you don't have apnoeas so pointless wearing a cpap mask. Even if you wear these headphones whilst sleeping (which given their huge size and weight, seems an impossibility), there's nowhere near enough pressure nor sealing to keep your airways open. Given the rigouress testing any medical device has to undergo, I reckon Dyson himself would advise you not to even consider doing that.
my confusion is why didn't they just make a motorcycle helmet which cools the driver with a fan, has decent quality headphones and somewhat filters the breathing air? That way the pricepoint for the materials makes more sense and there's an actual target audience. Also that would help with the weight issue as a helmet will already be heavy. AND it could actually have a seal.
At this point, why not just replicate Ironman's helmet? 😂 - you have AI - screen you could view/control - air filtration/mask - oxygen supply/converter and etc
I love the detail that has went into this video, even aside from the usual great production quality. I love that a professional was there to explain the science/medical part. You deserve a lot of respect for this review. Often people claim high-view UA-cam channels are ONLY used to advertise products and not actually review them, it is reviews like this that put those questions to rest. This does not apply to everyone, nor does it apply to every review, nor does it apply to every channel, nor every video on a channel. Another good lesson, do not generalise.
Did you enjoy how he brought on a Dr to criticize the product for claims it didn't make i.e. about protection from the coof, and when pressed on how it helps protect against pollution and pollen his brain melted and changed the subject to ANC resulting in deaths XD You enjoy that buddy?
You know a reviewer is a professional when he roasts the product he reviews but is also impressed by many things about it, like the packaging and the app monitoring the audio levels. Non-biased, truly good reviewer. Was so fun to watch!
you know the reviewer isn't professional when he doesn't even tries to inform himself about air filtration (positive pressure etc.) or tries the most obvious use like for pollen allergies. Even the doctor (?) doesn't get it right.. you need no seal, if you already push clean air inside the mask.
@@ismaelyu5 I'm sure none of them, including you, have tested the product. I presume you just came from JRE's video on it, since you mentioned positive pressure. He stated in the video that it was a *light* breeze, which is fair, there would definitely be positive pressure, but what happens when you inhale sharply? I'd assume there would be a negative pressure differential that would most likely exceed it. Idk man, product is wild, and there are a lot of factors that could totally skew this any way you theorize about it
@@AshrZ Your absolutely right on all points. JRE did an analysis and breakdown of the build but no test. Marq did more of a fast "is this thing for me" test. I'm missing a test with a person who actually needs it. In the end, the product is more of a "is it possible" then a "this is the best solution" engineering study.
Crying from happiness, you mean? This video is one of the best marketing ads for Dyson. Before talking about the headphones, he also mentioned how amazing Dyson is, and how their vacuum cleaners, and bladeless fans, and hair dryers are amazing. As the video said, this is a perfect "lossless leader".
I do hope that one good thing comes out of this - other headphone manufacturers should implement the joystick for control and the live readout of noise.
Fun fact: James Dyson tried over 5000 different prototypes of a bagless vacuum cleaner before getting a manufacturer on board - and that manufacturer only sold in Japan. Dyson used that money to launch his own business. The rest is history. So, of all inventors, Mr. Dyson seems to be familiar with hit and misses a lot. All that said, I just hope there aren't 5000 prototypes of these headphones LOL
Yep, Dyson tried to copy an industrial bagless cyclone vacuum he once saw in a sawmill. It's impressive that be built 5127 prototypes in five years... In any case, I guess his patented idea is just to use cyclonic separation in a (domestic) appliance. And to provide at least one "industrial strength" feature (apart from the pink color), he added an "industrial strength" price (equivalent to 10,000€ in 2023 money,).
I would say, he is not a really good inventor if it really did take him 5,000 prototypes to make, for all intents and purposes, a pretty straightforward product. I think a lot of DYSON'S products remind me of BOSE. Lots of marketing hype and premium prices.
The tech is interesting and is probably ahead of its time, but i think this would be a great idea if they are able to integrate it right into motorbike helmets. If the filtration could be built into the helmets, you would have a much larger target audience.
Integrating air filtration into motorbike helmets without creating a perfect seal would prove flawed. If the filtration system cannot prevent pollutants from entering the helmet it will not provide the intended benefits in terms of improving air quality for the rider.
This actually could be really effective as a loss leader strategy, because now if they released $400-500 headphones with these features minus the respirator, and put their engineering talent towards high quality audio, I’d be interested to check them out, whereas before, I wouldn’t even consider looking at them.
If this product is indicative of the companies future, then I predict your future kids won't know anything about the company as it won't be in existence.
Fun fact: I have an email reply from Dyson when I suggested adding a dust filter to their fans shortly after their first release, they said they are not into air filters. Oh how times have changed.
Ergonomic portable electromechanical respirators have been on the market for 10 years now. I have a ClanSpace HALO for work and it does everything this thing was supposed to do, uses HEPA filters and is medical grade. It also costs upwards to 2k tho. Dyson merely plagiarized them, while removing the most important features to bring down the price.
I think the active filtering idea is good but they should have gone with a dedicated mask instead of mixing it with headphones. Something that actually quells bad smells with a proper seal would be neat.
@jordanrodrigues1279 tells of that "expert" Marques has brought, right? The one telling us that blowing purified air in your face is something unheard of, and not some industry best practice.
It's crazy to me how the thing that you gushed the most about on this product was the little joystick/nubbin control. Like literally the kind of reliable input controls that we've had for about a century, but everyone's been so obsessed with digital fingerpainting for the past decade and a half that, I don't know, we've forgotten that other control schemes just work better in a lot of applications? I'll be really glad when the novelty has fully worn off of touchscreens and we start getting smarter input fusion solutions for our devices.
I also think it's funny because you're like, "it's nice to be able to just fast forward in Spotify through parts of a podcast, I've never seen that before," and I'm thinking you've got be like, ten-ish years younger than me, because I remember when MP3 players were first getting big and plenty of headphones came with volume and play controls just built into the cord. Hell I'm pretty sure my gaming headset has pause and play controls built into the ear cover along with the volume and mic mute buttons.
Dials and buttons have not disappeared for the novelty of touch sensors. Touch is just much cheaper, that's why hardware buttons and dials are probably gone for good, except for some premium devices maybe
@@RamadaArtist He was more surprised about the fast forwarding, the stopping and playing music has been out forever, which is something he's not gushing about, it's just the FF mode :)
@@eatyourvegetables1449 yeah maybe I'm conflating fast-forward with just track select. I can see fast-forward being really useful for podcasts like he said, but maybe not actually a feature on CD-rom mp3 players, like I'm thinking.
I think the great design skipped the headphones, they look cheap and tacky, not a $1000 pair of headphones, like something off of Temu. I’m amazed they made it to market. I can see people in Asia liking them as they wore face masks habitually a long time before the rest of the world…
Thanks for mentioning the fan noise bleeding through on the headphones - that is crazy counter intuitive to have all that noise cancelling tech etc. but then have a high frequency hum or vibration that immediately negates that.
The fans are absolutely useless. We have air pumps in our body, they are called lungs, adding any other pump to the air system only spells trouble. Even medically.
There was a PSA in my country on pollution and how our world is going to change if we didn't do something. This was in the mid-eighties. Rich people with air filtration masks, on their 'portable' phones, ignoring the poor who can only afford small hits of clean air from a type of vending machines.
I was walking past a dyson shop, and stopped to see a worker trying to sell this product to a customer with hayfever, And was saying how much it would help with the heyfever, filtering out the pollen and making life with hayfever easier. I wonder how true this is.
I dont know though, because if it purifies 90% of the air, sure its not up to dr. Mikes disease control standard, but even that 90% reduction could provide alot more comfort to someone being uncomfortable from the pollen.......but i dont even have hayfever, im talking out of my butt
@@gympatron2856 It's blowing that filtered air at your nose and mouth, but there's no seal so when you breathe in you'll be breathing a mixture of filtered and unfiltered air. It would probably help a bit, but not as much as you'd want if you had bad hayfever. Wearing an N95 mask would be much more effective and avoid the problems of dry mucous membranes that Mike described. Wearing a simple cloth mask might be similarly effective and avoid the problems of dry mucous membranes. The headphones are also very expensive, and you can get boxes of N95 masks for less than £1 a mask. I think the only use for something like this would be if there was a way plug the airflow from the headphones into an n95 mask. That might improve comfort for people who feel claustrophobic wearing normal masks or find the very small increase in breathing effort uncomfortable.
bro keep at it. You're a breath of fresh air in this world of products which consumers cannot understand whether it will help them or destroy them. This is a perfect example of a product review. Honestly, well done!

the positive pressure makes reduces the need for a seal. Not sure by how much, but an N95 mask has not positive pressure. this does. We make laboratory clean room hoods that use the same phenomena. There's no seal but the positive pressure creates a virtual wall for the air.
If I saw someone wearing those headphones, I would chuckle. On top of that, if they told me what they were, I would laugh. On TOP of that, if they told me it was $1000 dollars, I would roll on the floor laughing my butt off. Well played Dyson.

Shopvacs are the cheat code. Cheap, durable, no bags, and are strong enough to suck up water no problem.

Even if you wear these headphones whilst sleeping (which given their huge size and weight, seems an impossibility), there's nowhere near enough pressure nor sealing to keep your airways open.

And was saying how much it would help with the heyfever, filtering out the pollen and making life with hayfever easier.
I wonder how true this is.
probably not at all
I dont know though, because if it purifies 90% of the air, sure its not up to dr.
A…breath of…*bites lip* fresh air?!?
I hope that pun was intentional
@@theonlysamman3889 haha, I'm glad we're not there yet where puns must be explained.
This review is entirely flawed regardless what you think of the product.
@@sedwarg …cool?
I wasn't expecting a Dr. Mike collab and am happy to see it.
Very cool to have a science lesson in the video!
The Marques shots "in the field" were absolutely hilarious. And the Dr. Mike insight was really fascinating. Great review!
I have just started watching this guy's videos. I love how he has no click bait and puts it all right out there.
you’re hands down my favorite product reviewer ever. you buy the products so you’re not beholden. you’re smart, focused, and engaging to watch. you’re fair and detailed even with absurd stuff like this. best of all, i learn things (in general, not just about the items). i hope you never stop doing these. ❤️
Subjective review with many flaws.
Fair?
He started negative before opening the box and he's a super fanboy for airpods lol.
@@InitialFailuredawg… this is literally one of the worst products of all time. i think his comments are justified

Professionals never make a reviews about products they don't like, ...this tells something about you and him doesn't it?
This was surprisingly entertaining for such an odd product :D Thank you for taking it upon yourself to get one and inform us.
ok
its like a chastity belt, but for your face.
I'd buy them if they had noise cancelation for private talking.
Why the hell would you even need that

the positive pressure makes reduces the need for a seal.
Slaves had to cover their mouths with masks in times past. I'm sure the people at the WEF who said, "You'll own nothing and be happy" wouldn't dare try to bring slavery back in an evolved form.
This comment is so well structured 🤭😂
You are so fun and smart
And also round, apparently
Dude, no you wouldn’t lol. I don’t think ppl are buying this to be practical or anything else besides gimmick & saving it bc it will be worth something in the future just because it’s unique tech by a reputable company. It’s a cool piece of hardware/art & it looks very anime inspired which is also cool. Just because YOU don’t understand something doesn’t make it wrong. You sound like ur fun to be around at parties.
