I love your content as well as medical grade products but I do believe we can get good skincare at lower prices (as long as it’s a quality formula). Hi Dr., this is absolutely the best video on collagen synthesis and appropriate topical treatments I have seen so far and I’ve seen many. Your explanations and advice are clear, concise and comprehensive to everyone. Thank you for being so knowledgeable and helpful. In my mid 50s, I am really interested in the Alastin line of products to help with my sagging facial skin, jowls/nasolabial folds. I look forward to your next videos. Cheers to you!❤️😉👏

Hello Dr. I just wanted to take a moment to say thank you for your very informative videos! I work a a cosmetic laser skincare center. I’m in the retail part of the clinic and we carry medical grade lines. I love that you review many of my favorites! Alastin, SkinBetter, SkinCeutical, Skin Medica, Revision etc.. I haven’t tried the prescription strength retinol yet. What do you think of SkinBetter intense AlphaRet?
Hello! I’ve been using alto advanced, .1% tret then cerave pm moisturizer each evening, in that order with no irritation. Do you think I would receive additional anti-aging benefits if I swapped the cereve with Alastin restorative skin complex? Or would that just be overkill/waste of $? I can’t thank you enough for all of your videos, you’ve helped me so much getting into the right routine for my skin!!
Thank you! Ever since I started using Colorescience Flex and Skinbetter tinted sunscreen I've stopped wearing foundation. In my videos I wear the Flex because it has more coverage!
Hi! I recently purchased the skin science overnight serum but I am wondering if I need the clearing serum instead. I have hyper pigmentation and want to minimize pores. I’m 34 years old. Should I switch the overnight serum to the clearing serum ? Thank you and great video!
Thank you! ☺️ I think you should be fine to stay with the overnight cream and try the clearing serum next time. In terms of hyperpigmentation, I would say they are about the same. In terms of pores; the retinoid helps minimize pores in both products, but if you are oily or find the overnight cream to be too oily for your skin, you might be better off with the serum. If you have a lot of congestion, you might also prefer the clearing serum. Hope that makes sense.
@@theocbeautymd thank you so much for the reply. I will stick with the overnight cream since I don’t have any congestion 🙂 I also ordered the vitamin C you recommended. Thank you for sharing your knowledge! I’m learning so much from your videos. Take care
Do you recommend Alastin over Skin Better or Skin Medica for innovative and effective anti aging products? I love your channel and videos. I can see you having half a million subscribers soon. You don’t exclude products because of high prices alone.
Thank so much! I appreciate that 🥰. Alastin is my go to after any procedure. It's specifically designed for post procedure care. The restorative face and eye complex is in my regular rotation with skinbetter. I alternate so my skin doesn't get lazy. 💪 I would say skin better and Alastin are pretty equal on innovation and research and Skin Medica is riding its reputation more at this point but their products are definitely good.
Hi ! When finances get better soon I will have a collection of medical grade items preserve my youth while I work on affording perfecting skin my plan !! Now I've waited many years to effectively care for myself I look 3536to people with only two lines on my forehead to show a sighn of age I'm 47.
I’ve been using OFC Retinol for a few years now, I don’t have any major skin concerns it’s more for preventative. My question is should I stick with OFC options like Alsatian or Shani Darden. OR go for prescription strength.
Nothing works as well as a prescription retinoid acid. It's the active form used by the skin. You will see the most results. And you can always alternate every other night a retinol then the next night a tretinoin. That's what I do cuz I can't use tretinoin every night. Start with a low strength to let your skin adjust. 😊
Very informative. Where do you live. UK USA? I use tretinoin and so happy with it. Still have some hyper pigmentation and have started paulas choice vitamin C booster. And of cause Spf. Any other trix?
Hi! I am 42 and use the ZO radical night repair, is there really a benefit of moving up to Tretinoin? Also if I do move to Tretinoin what strength would I start with? Thank you for your help!
Of all the non-prescription retinol out there, I think RNR is probably the most potent and excellent product. I don't think you necessarily need to switch to a tretinoin at all. If you were to switch, you could probably start at 0.05% or 0.1%. Also when Dr. Obagi does skin health restoration, he usually only has patients on high concentration tretinoin for 5-6 months and then switches them to retinol. Hope that helps 😊
Hi hun. I’m in a similar position. Did you change over? I was wondering if I should change to wrinkle and texture repair after two years of RNR. Did you try that one at all?
I got alpha ret overnight cream today. Retinoids is a anti aging tip I hear. I plan to get moisturizing tretinion later from a doctor mix that with a hydrator put where needed. I'm gonna get regular on retinoids .
I’m so grateful for this video. I just learned about the Alastin Skin Nectar. Is this only to be used before and after procedures? I got a facial at Four Seasons and my gal was telling me about it. (She didn’t use it on me) but she said it helped her skin so much. Now I’m confused on which one to use. She wrote down Nectar…
Nectar is incredible before and after procedures and you can certainly use it after a facial. It has no water in it and it's great for helping the skin heal. Once the skin is healed, you can move onto the restorative skin complex. This has the same amount of trihex technology but also has water in it so it resembles a moisturizer more than the nectar.
Hello Dr. Thank you for this video! What would you recommend for acne-prone, combination skin? I double cleanse, use Paulas Choice bha toner, image skincare acne treatment, and moisturizer. What could I add to lighten pigmentation, brighten skin, protect skin barrier? I just purchased alastin hydratint for more sun protection
Very difficult to say without seeing you. If acne is not improving you could add a benzoyl peroxide wash. Also I would consider adding an AHA such as glycolic or lactic acid. Lactic acid is more gentle than glycolic and helps with pigmentation.
Hello, do you suggest using the Alastin Restorative Skin Complex before or after red LED light Tx? Considering Alastin clears out damaged collagen and elastin to make room for the new, it would make sense that it would work synergistically with red LED light therapy. Thank you in advance for your insight!
Hello Dr Ania ! I don’t have acne prone skin but i do have sun damaged skin …I would like to introduce retinol/retinoids in my skincare as an anti-aging + for pigmentation… Is differin good to start ? If yes … should I use it for atleast 3 months ?
Yes differin is good. If you are struggling with hyperpigmentation, you might want to try the differin dark spot correcting serum. That one is a 2% hydroquinone product. You can use the adapalene for the retinoid component.
Hello, I was recommended the Alpharet clearing serum, but was wondering if the overnight cream works better or the same as the serum in terms of helping with anti aging? It doesn’t say much on the website if the serum helps with anti aging or not.
Hi Diana, The alpharet contains a retinoid and a lactic acid molecule so that helps with acne, anti again, cell turnover and hydration. The main difference between the two is that the Clearing Serum is oil free and has less hydrating properties and more pore clearing properties like salicylic acid. The overnight cream just had more hydrating properties and does not have salicylic acid. Hope that helps ☺️
The skin nectar is a bacteriostatic anhydrous (no water) gel without preservatives. The active ingredients are a tripeptide-hexapeptide gel that stimulates tropoelastin and procollagen which result in production of elastin and collagen. Specifically; tripeptide 1clears byproducts of aging in skin matrix, hexapeptide 12 optimizes fibroblast function and binds elastin, phosphatidylserine controls proteases and combats glycation end products, oleuropein acts as an antioxidant and combats glycation end products and clears out damaged skin matrix proteins. Phytoene, phytofluene and naringenin with panthenyl triacetate (antioxidants). Arnica Montana (anti-inflammation). Basically what this does is remove damaged and dysfunctional collagen and stimulate synthesis of new collagen by triggering proteases to clear debris in the skin matrix and improve cell communication then stimulate synthesis of collagen and elastin. Thanks for the question :)
Hello! I am 40 and i do use skinbetter alpha ret. I want to start using a a peptide treatment and I am not sure if i am better suited for skinbetter interfuse cream or the alastin restorative complex? I have normal skin, pigment and fine lines. I would like something to help with tightening and collagen supprt. Which product would be best for me? Thanks!
The restorative complex is a peptide complex with antioxidants and hydrating properties and it strengthens the skin barrier and builds collagen. The Interfuse face and neck contains collagen building and neurocalming peptides and a few antioxidants. With the restorative complex you won't need a moisturizer but with the interfuse you might need a moisturizer on top. Hope that helps.
Thank you so much for this video, Dr. Marie! I just started using the ZO Obagi exfoliating polish and the ZO obagi radical night repair (for a little peel), and Tretinoin (small strength, 1x a week right now to help with my acne). I use sunscreen every day. Is there anything you recommend to help brighten up the skin and lighten skin tone? I always feel as though my face is very dull and does not have any glow.
That's a really good skin care routine. If you want more glow, you might have to increase your cell turnover a bit more. A great Zo product is the exfoliation accelerator, its a 10% glycolic acid. If you want to brighten or get a more even skin tone the Even Tone by skinbetter science is a good one or the Zo bright alive. They are both non hydroquinone brighteners.
I’m on my second bottle of the body formation by Alastin… With the first bottle I did notice a difference on my legs and arms so I purchased a second bottle… Not noticing anything now! $400 down the drain!
Maybe, maybe not. Skincare can only do so much. Once your skin reaches an optimal level with a product, it can be maintained but it can't keep improving. I wish it could, then we would all literally turn back the hands of time. If you want to make the best out of it, start using it a few times a week for maintenance of what you've gained and in between use a less expensive alternative.
@@theocbeautymd ok I’ve been so confused about how and what affects the efficacy of tret. I’ve just been applying Cereve, waiting a bit, then applying .025% tret.
@@Calmerthanyouare17 That's perfect. Tret absorbs quicker on moist skin, degrades in sunlight and acidic pH. If you hydrate first, you minimize the side effects and slightly decrease potency.
I think a combination of a retinoid and sunscreen are the most important for everyone over 30. More mature skin tends to be drier so hydration usually needs to be increased as well. 😊
