I had no idea sleep deprivation could inhibit collagen production. This is a great list and much appreciated! I have been using tretinoin for 3 1/2 years. Recently I had a series of 6 TCA peels. The improvement in my skin after the peels has been much better than the peels I had before I was using tretinoin. Tret has really boosted outcomes for me from other collagen building procedures I’ve tried (ie: peels, Morpheus laser and microneedling).
I agree, it really is the #1 collagen booster. When I did 5 months of high dose tretinoin alone, I could not believe the difference in my skin! In terms of sleep, yes! There are many medical conferences that talk about sleep deprivation and it's effects, particularly for doctors who work night shifts. Lack of sleep affects, skin's ability to recover from insult (ex. sun exposure), the skin can become sallow. Overall skin/body aging accelerates. Our bodies release less growth hormone. It's associates with depression, forgetfulness, diabetes, cardiovascular disease, immune disease, weight gain, loss of sex drive and more. Effects are profound.
And to answer your question Dr…I routinely wash my face at night and wear sunscreen. What I would like to work on is decreasing my sugar intake, increasing the amount of sleep that I get, and finding/using a peptide serum that penetrate the skin!
I have a question about at-home RF devices that I just can't seem to get an answer to from anyone. Most of these devices come with instructions to use them daily or at least several times a week. My understanding when it comes to RF is that it's meant to denature collagen, which is then followed by the formation of new collagen. However, if we’re denaturing the collagen, is the goal not to allow for it to go through a full collagen cycle, which takes at least four weeks? Otherwise, wouldn't you just be breaking down the collagen over and over again before it was able to rebuild? If these devices aren't strong enough to break down collagen they wouldn't really work and if they are it wouldn't make sense to use them several times a week or even every day. I have contacted several manufacturers, but none of them provided any actual answers to this. I would love to hear your thoughts on this.
Hi Mimi 🌸 Definitely the nectar for broken, sensitized, or post procedure skin. Otherwise, restorative skin complex and restorative eye treatment. Their sunscreens are pretty good too!
I always use tretinoin 0.05% and alpha arbutin 3% at night, in the morning I always use BHA 2% + niacinamide. Routinely doing exfoliation with glycolic acid once in a month
Sounds like a great routine except I would take breaks from Arbutin. It converts to hydroquinone. After 5 months of use, your skin can become resistant to it. Taking 2-3 month breaks every 4-5 months will improve its effectiveness.
Great video and tips! I do the Morpheus 8 once a year also 3/4 clear brilliant a year. Of course using retin a at least 5 times a week, in between I use skinbetter peel pads. Ania what do you think home derma rolling ? Also having collegan powder?
Never ever EVER - re: derma rolling. The needles shear the tissue as they change orientation and angle while rolling over the skin. Collagen powders are not supported by research but I find they make a difference and I use them. If there is a sylfirm X in your area, try it just to compare to morpheus and let me know your thoughts! C&B is great! xo
@@theocbeautymd ok what about derma pens? Since you’re not rolling it it’s a stamp. I have the dr pen and quite like it but haven’t used it long enough not deep enough (I’m too scared) to see any results outside of just better skincare penetration
Such good info and if we already know all this it’s a good reminder. Question : is it best to apply vitamin c serum on dry skin? I’m using revision vitamin c complex
It really depends on what you are looking for. I think the Alastin nectar and restorative complex are the BEST peptide serums. If I had to compare ALTO, I would compare it to ZO AOX illuminating serum which is also an antioxidant serum. If you get antioxidants in your sunscreen, you could opt for a peptide serum in your skincare.
I would honestly skip it and get something else instead, like a great antioxidant serum or retinol, because most peptide serums are a total waste of money and the good ones are expensive.
You are most welcome. I can not recommend prescription medications or specific products for you here. If you are interested, you can sign up for a virtual consultation with me, where we can talk about those things. In general, I think alpharet from skinbetter is excellent as well as the ZO Skin health and Alastin products. All of the products on my website, are ones I stand behind in general.
I've heard good things. Observe how you feel when taking them. The best is to keep a short little journal. What. bothers you, what day you start taking them, your progress. Good luck!
Always wash your face in the am. Here’s why: -oils and dirt from you hair and pillowcase (unless you change pillowcase nightly) -oil and product residue on your face from the night before will impede absorption of morning products applied. -and any sweat and bacteria should be washed off as well. If you are dry or dehydrated, use a gentle cleanser. Hope this helps!
Growth factors are good but I see them as a luxury item because of the price:benefit ratio. Alastin peptides change the skin on a cellular level (shown on skin biopsy and looking under the microscope) so yes! My favorite through and through. Most peptides are so big they just sit on the skin surface and do nothing. So I think they are a waste of money.
I was prescribed Aklief 0.005 but it doesn’t seem like a lot of people are talking about it. Do you think it is as affective as ex. Tazarotene 0.1? I’ve read it’s a new formulation. I do have minor adult acne but want the anti-aging benefits as well.
I actually reached out to a dermatology friend regarding this. Neither one of us has prescribed it. You're right it doesn't seem very well known. It is supposed to be a less irritating retinoid acid that is more selective for a specific receptor (gamma) but if it is working for you, then should be fine. It's more popular for body acne.
Hello ma’am, I work night shifts too and I think I’ve aged in the last two years compared when I didn’t work night shifts and will be leaving my work soon. What can I do to reverse the damage actually? I see one side of my face has malar bags or a slight dent compared to the other side.
I worked nights for 7 years, I hear you. I would say the number 1, 2 and 3 is sleep. When you disturb your circadian rhythm, sleep is the most important and you need even more than you normally would. I remember sometimes I could sleep 12 hours. The second would be adequate nutrients, so eat healthily and take supplements. Best of luck back to health 💫
Washing my face at night is like a daily mini therapy session! I look forward to it! 🧘♀️💕
Me too! It's my wind down from the day!

I prefer damp but it's up to you. Just remember the drier the skin the lower the product absorption

I know it's a good line. I don't use it personally.
I usually use a chemical peel and in the evening I use retinol from zo skin obagi or I use the grow factor cream from Mesoestetic.
Sounds like a good routine! 🌸
Hello, thank you for the video. I love this topic. If I couldn’t afford the Alastin peptide serum, how does one shop for a suitable peptide serum?

Can you cure or treay glycation on your face? Thank you
Yes you can treat it. It is very hard but you can get significant improvement with laser treatments and peels.
