    Always cracks me up when people suggest that post-Layne AIC isn't good because Layne's gone.
    Layne was an amazing talent, without a doubt, and I mean him absolutely no disrespect in saying this, but Jerry always did most of the heavy lifting as far as writing and arranging, and DuVall's a pretty big talent himself, not to mention a fantastic facsimile of what Layne would be doing. The harmonies are on point. You still get that same chill from it. And Jerry's got as much of a right to the style and sound as anybody who has ever walked the Earth.

    • @Erthellf
      @Erthellf 4 роки тому +30

      Also, Jerry is the lead man. If he had let AIC die with Layne, there would not have been such great dedication that remains for Layne. Jerry has a big hand in keeping his good buddy alive in memory!!

      @@Erthellf - Without a doubt, although in fairness, Jerry has an interest in keeping that memory alive. As depressing as it might be to say, Jerry's income is driven by the "Layne is the best forever" people.

      Keep FIGHTING, lady! You can do this! 💗🙏🙏🙏🤘 With a 13 yr. span of abuse- every kind of abuse you could throw at a 3 yr. old ,on!) At the hands of the man my mother married when I was 3, I KNEW even at that young age, it was WRONG, and started running away when I was 4 yrs old, ALWAYS being brought right back there into it, even though I told the police MANY times what went on.. But, I used MUSIC to get me through those years- ( he would throw me against a wall corner where they met, and it hit my spine, quite painfully, and knocking the wind out of me so I couldn't fight back, but when I was 16, this ONE time, it didn't work, and I used all the things they teach in self defense class to fight off an attacker, had him on the hall floor, rolling around in pain, and began kicking him in the head and told him if he EVER tried to touch me again, in ANY way, I'd kill him, and he knew I meant it. He NEVER even raised his voice to me again much less beat me or touched me inappropriately, or used mental abuse, never spoke to me in anything less than a respectful manner, But MUSIC was my ESCAPE every day of my life till then, and it still helps me to this day, Thank God for ROCK N ROLL! It kept me SANE, for a lot of nightmarish years growing up, back in the day when teachers, neighbors, and parents wouldn't help because "it's a domestic problem I had to work out for myself" I didn't have AIC back in the day, but as soon as their music hit the airwaves, they became an INSTANT favorite for me!❤

      Facts, this is one of their best songs ever regardless of era. Layne is my favorite singer ever and obviously he’s missed but as long as Jerry is around running the show writing the music and Sean and Inez are around crushing the rhythm section they will be alive and well. Duvall may not be Layne but he’s still a great singer and he fits in with the band well and most importantly has fantastic chemistry with Jerry and the harmonizing is still great. He does a good job with Layne’s material and does great with the post Layne stuff plus the addition of his quality guitar playing is a positive. Ya they may never reach the peaks they did with Layne but they still rule and are still one of the best bands in the business. Long love AIC, hopefully we get a new album from them in 2023

    William Duval brings a joy to AIC that was missing when Layne died. Jerry and the others went through alot and seems the focus was on Layne's departure, but how this has impacted the band. I feel AIC has grown stronger and evolved into something unique and still holds the sound that Alice In Chains is so famous and known for. Damn fine music. So glad they all came together to keep the band going. I bet Layne stands in the front row of every concert, head banging, playing an actual air guitar. Thank you AIC. Your sound has always kept me grounded. Bless all of You. I mean that. Listening in Wisconsin since your beginning.

      Ree McLaughlin I love William and he’s a great singer, songwriter and guitarist but it’s also true that in this song he’s singing Jerry’s lyrics and Jerry’s designed harmony parts the way Jerry wanted him to sing it. If you listen to Degradation Trip you can hear Jerry doing all these kinds of vocal harmonies himself. I feel like most fans have grown to appreciate Jerry even more than they already did, just as they do William, and rightly so.
      Again, William’s great but part of why this works so well is because in a lot of songs, like this one, the music and lyrics are all written by Jerry, as they’ve been on a ton of Alice In Chains biggest hits, both during and after Layne - because the guys a musical genius. That doesn’t take anything away from Layne being one of the greatest singers of all time or William being pretty awesome himself, it just so happens to also be true that Jerry’s like the maestro of the band and most of the songs, both music and lyrics, are written by him.
