This has actually happened with a local Waterpark in my city. When I was a kid it was nice, and it is still the biggest Waterpark in the area, but they began lowering the price of their season passes until they were almost the same as regular tickets. This has led to a massive influx of people, but with less money. The Waterpark needs every pool resurfaced, a lot more cleaning, and the rides seem like they need maintenance because the waterflow on them is terrible, but I would assume they're struggling because for a whole season pass, which allows for +1 guests and discounts, only costs like $50 (last I saw). The lines have also gotten so long it is miserable, and the pools are too crowded, it's like that opening scene from Diary of a Wimpy kid where they go to the public pool. I went to a first year con back in 2004 and it was somewhat organized, but it was obvious the venue was too small for the amount of people who attended. In later years, they learned from their mistakes and not only changed the venue, they rented a second one as well. Watching this in comparison to the one I'm talking about is just chaos.

Tanacon was literally just Tana attempting to solve her personal envy with UA-cam about not being represented as a creator at Vidcon. It’s nothing more than just someone’s jealousy going to the extreme.
Plausible deniability. She can blame the event coordinators. In order to sue her - herself - they would have to prove that she knew what was going to happen. She is shielded by the event people.

i've watched a lot of disaster documentaries so let me just say: it's incredibly lucky that nobody died or got injured. I think the only thing that kept a crowd crush from happening inside when the event was shut down was that people were reluctant to leave.
“Under promise, over deliver” is a proven business strategy. “Over promise, under deliver” is, however, a recipe for absolute disaster. - Thank you for coming to my Ted talk.
I absolutely despise her. Considering the type of person she is, I'm not surprised it failed. The fact that she named it "Tana" Con feels so narcissistic on her part, and since she was upset that she got banned from VidCon, it felt doomed to fail. She seems to care so much about herself that she didn't even think about the planning and consequences. I appreciate that she apologized, but she should've known better tbh.
I'm a community organizer with 30 years of experience, and I've sat on committees to organize protests and direct actions attended by hundreds of thousands of people. I've also organized events entirely by myself attended by ten thousand or more people. I can tell you that organizing for these events usually starts 8-12 months earlier, with the last four months becoming full-time work for everyone involved to get things nailed down. The two weeks before the event are sheer craziness, and I've sometimes gone as long as three days without sleep at a time during the crunch period. The idea that you can set up a major event in four months with people who have zero experience doing so is the epitome of Dunning-Kruger confidence.
@@johnnywoodson4231 There are tools for handling events which require quick action, such as phone trees and flying squads. A phone tree involves assigning each person three or four other people within the organization to contact with a bit of overlap between them so that when the phone tree is triggered, the entire organization can be alerted within minutes. Flying squads are a group of volunteers within an organization who have jobs or lifestyles which give them a lot of flexibility, and who are ready to go to an action with zero prior notice. The flying squad are usually the people who store the banners, flags, first aid kits, and so on, so they're always ready to go. That said, while it's _possible_ for an experienced group to throw together a quick action, it's by no means ideal. You're going into the situation blind, probably without proper legal guidance and representation, without thought to media relations, and unprepared for specific scenarios which would otherwise have had time to be workshopped to develop a plan of action. In my line of work, being unprepared is how people get hurt or arrested.
For some reason, I dont think organizing is that hard. Especially the small scaled ones. Large ones need a lot of planning but a small scale upto 2k people? All you need is to be in proper contact with authorities, have a proper venue, security, food and water, bathrooms, and a plan of how the event will run. As long as you stick with providing the basics, the event might not be great but it will run smoothly. It does not seem that hard tbh. She was just greedy as fuck and probably oversold and spent less. Calculating the breakeven point of ticket price should be the first thing they should have done.
@@Ntnt11 "For some reason"? The reason is the Dunning-Kruger effect. You don't know enough to be able to recognize your own ignorance of the subject -- just like the people who put on Tanacon.
It's really depressing that people like her can be so rich and successful and here I am working 52 hours a week and will probably never have 1% of the wealth she does. Real bummer.
Well, truth be told, you need to have a loud and charismatic personality that attracts people. Or some kind of unique talent. If you don't have those, then yea it's the hard knock life for you

I’m 25 years old, people I graduated with have verbatim said “oh my god I love her” I seriously don’t understand why people are so forgiving and even fans of such unlikable, untalented, hypocrites with 0 accountability. On the bright side if someone tells you they’re a Tana mongeau fan as an adult you know you should probably avoid that person.
I'm not a fan of Tana--literally only know she exists because of this event--but it does seem like she did take accountability, which is really rare with most celebrities.
@WrongOpinion I suppose that depends on how shallow people are and how they judge attractiveness. She's aesthetically quite pretty but as far as I'm concerned, her personality and everything else about her makes her very ugly and unattractive person. I get your point though, some people are pathetically shallow and they think anyone with even slightly better than average looks are worthy of attention and adoration. I suspect if she'd been overweight or conventionally unattractive and done that to people, their bitchy sides would have come out and they'd be less forgiving. And there'd have been a LOT of swipes at her appearance or weight or whatever. Unfortunately it's easier to judge people on what's on the outside rather than dig a little deeper and judge them on who they are as a person.

This is worse than the other disastrous conventions combined. Here's why: Dashcon: It would've worked if someone professional was working on it. Rainfurrest: It has worked previously, as it was a convention for years until the chaos happened in 2015, which abruptly ended it entirely. Fyre Festival: If they had planned it two years out, it would've been a success. TanaCon: It was just made to spite VidCon. That's it! So there was no way it could've succeeded unless you changed the intention of the convention entirely. Which would mean it wouldn't have happened.

This video makes me realize something else not mentioned, and this is just how repulsive and degusting people's overboard idolizing and worship of individuals are. Think good on how ridiculous it is for people to be so obsessed with a UA-cam "personality", that they'd spend a lot of their money and time on that said personality. After everything shady and evil that's happened with content creators on UA-cam, you'd think that people would've long ago wised up and stop treating their favorite creators like gods and instead start seeing them as the ordinary individuals they really are. I too have my favorite content creators like everyone else here, but I don't see them any greater or less to who I am. They are just basic people who happen to be well known for their videos or talents. I don't feel bad for anyone who got scammed or suffered by this "TanaCon" cult garbage, because they needed this as a wake up call to stop idolizing and being repulsively obsessive over other people.
I have a question: For organized protests, how can this time frame you provided fit for sudden events (e.g.: Sudden police brutality case)?

Tana: "it's my fault"
Also Tana: "but the 20 year old convinced me"
If you look at Tana’s age currently, she’s 23 years old. The organization of Tanacon happened in 2018, meaning 3 years ago. 3 years ago, she was 20 years old. She’s not blaming anyone other than herself in that statement.
That's does not sound of someone who is taking accountability. She is putting the blame to an external source in time.
@@invertco1955 even if thats talking about herself it sounds like dissasociating the responsibility from yourself by giving it a third person "personality"
This is worse than the other disastrous conventions combined. Here's why:
Dashcon: It would've worked if someone professional was working on it.
Fyre Festival is actually just a scam, they don't even planned it properly.
Rainfurrest was a first time thing. There's other furry cons, rainfurrest was made for people and activities mostly banned from other cons. It didn't work, because all the bad people came in force
Sorce: furry friends who heard about it

Dashcon was straight scam.

True. Admiring someone and taking them as an inspiration is nice, but being obsessed about them is plain toxicity.

I previously only heard of Tanacon in jokes and offhand mentions, and I just assumed from all of the talks about sunburns that it was a literal ‘Tan Convention’ where people went to get tans 💀
I mean, those who went certainly got tans, so you weren't wrong 😀
Close enough I guess
12:48 “Unsubscribe her UA-cam channel until refunds are provided.”
How is that supposed to get your refund back…? Can someone tell me the “logic” in getting a refund by just unsubscribing??
They were trying to cause a riot until they got what what they deserved. They knew unsubscribing wouldn’t directly give them a refund, but if enough people did it then tana would see how angry people were a give the refund.
I’m glad Amanda’s content (Swell Entertainment) was featured in this. Hers is one of the best documentations of this disaster of an event. If i recall correctly, she even did a revisit of this a year after and she got interviewed together with the organizers themselves. By the way, Amanda is one of the best content creators out there right now. Eloquent, intelligent, well-informed, and does her research well.

This shows such a huge difference between internet "celebrities" who never should have gotten famous and mainstream celebrities that are well loved and never became even close to being cancelled.
Tana makes her fans wait for hours in the heat and then cancels the event.
Singers like Louis Tomlinson, Harry Styles, etc (cannot remember another example to save my life) bring out drinks and food for the fans waiting for their concert.
Sure
Never heard of her, these ‘influencers’ do what exactly? Be narcissist? Cool.
This whole thing just sounds narcissistic. I know it’s such an overused word for every little thing now (thanks Gabbie), but it does!

Same here, friend!
Will anyone really wake up or care about what I'm saying here? Not really, but at least I said what had to be said.
yep, sheeple. ppl still stood out there getting sunburnt when they had already been there for several hours. they were willing to put themselves thru self detriment for it all
Exactly and what makes it worst these scumbags are getting loads of money a month from there "fans" and when they get screwed they sit back in there mansions and tweet some Bs apology followed by dont forget to like and subscribe and keep giving me money so I can stay rich totally disgusting.
There’s nothing wrong about wanting to meet your favourite creator it’s like knowing an actor is going to be somewhere and going there to meet them. And also as stated in the video it was cheaper than vidcon. But I do agree people should stop putting these regular people on pedestals.
Yeah, don't put anybody on a fucking pedestal.
