I love how she always just says what comes to mind first. Makes her very natural. There are too many in YT that just follow a script and are way too worried about how others see them. Sarah here just seem not to give a shit and keeps being herself.
I've had that same temporary valve ticking on a few other German cars that haven't been started in a long time. Nothing out of the ordinary there. Great job. Keep up the good work.
Congrats Sarah! It can be a huge PITA working on a car on your own, even having someone to hand spanners while you're under the car can save a heap of effort. Respect for persisting on your own so much. Thanks for all the awesome content. Enjoy the drive.
Tremendous amounts of respect for recognizing your moments of negative example setting. That is a step most don't take because they never recognize the need. Kudos to you, Sarah. Congratulations on the new milestone, TT's on the streetees! :D
1.8T motors are tickers. very normal. the noise comes from injectors. One good thing to do is prime your engine before a startup after letting a car sit for soo long. A fresh oil change help a ton as well. When you swap turbos even if they are used they need to be primed before they start to spin/spool need those bearing and oil lines filled up with oil same goes for the engine. pull the Fuel pump relay #409 under your dash and crank the motor over a few times for about 10 minutes and about 5 sets. make sure to space them out so you don't overheat your starter.
Sarah, great job! I have been watching since you purchased the TT and Mr2. To see them both running is awesome! And the feeling of starting up a car after so much wrench time is so mixed with fear, anticipation, and joy when it starts up fine, ( but also pure sadness when it doesn't). Love your videos!
So good to see you smiling when Teeter Tot‘s engine running again. Your work paid off. Hope he‘s running fine and fast in your next video. I admire what you achieved working on that cursed car. Keep on, love your attitude. 👍🏽😊
Hi Sarah. I have a Silver 1999 plate TT here in England. Ive watched every TT vlog you've done. I've learnt so much from you over the past year. I've saved so much money doing most of my own work. I've not had to do as much as you on my project but if I need to i know how to do it. Proud of you well done. Should be road testing mine next week also.
Your smile was so infectious when it started for the first time! I put 250,000 miles on (2) TTs over 10 years and your videos inspire me to push away from the keyboard and go flop around on my floor under my car!
There is no way on God's green earth that you could be a bad example. Your effort, commitment and drive are unparalleled. You motivate and encourage, and show it CAN be done! Good on you!
Congrats Sarah! Success is sooo sweat. I'm watching your video instead of detailing my friend's 911 C4S. Watching your video instead is the best 15 min of my day. Now I'm off to clay barring.
Just finished the whole current playlist on the TT and enjoyed every minute👌 I'm really looking forward to seeing her rip, goooo Teeter Tot 😎 My new favourite UA-cam channel 💗
Congratulations Sarah! You have done an amazing job! I can agree about the "first turn of the key" excitement. After many months of hard work, it all comes down to that. You nailed this!
Before anything congratulation, AWESOME work. When someone has a bad day and they look at that smile that you gave they have forgotten what a bad day they had. Thank you for being you. You are AWESOME
I just today came across your channel. I’ll be watching often. When you were nervous to start your car for the first time reminded me of many years ago when i had done major engine work on a Volvo V8. Another tech in the shop asked me if I was nervous to start the engine after all that work. I told him the time to be nervous about starting the engine is at the beginning of the job, not the end. That means be organized and mindful of your work while you’re working so at the end you don’t have to wonder if you tightened that critical bolt in the middle of the engine. You seem like a smart person and a competent mechanic though. I don’t expect you’ll have any workmanship issues. Keep up the good work!
Sarah you've done one hell of a job on this car!!! The Potato lives! I like Mr Dos cameos too, still blown away by how it basically looks like a new car.
Congrats, Sarah. I loved your smile when you first got it started. And thanks to Charlie for coming through too for the final push. Great Job. Can't wait to see the next one where you drive it.
Well done. I get nervous as well after so much work. It is normal for the hydraulic lifters to tap when they have been left so long. Needs the oil to thin and all is OK. Just done to more jobs on my project TT. Restored the headlamps and installed running lights and led indicators and fixed the screen in the dash of broken pixels. The fun never ends! Your doing a great job.
It goes without say...sarah rocks. You're not perfect but you are determined. Keep up the good work and content. The simple fact you achieved your goals in spite of the obstacles is an inspiration to others.
Congrats to a major milestone! Hope you'll get better soon. Don't forget to cuddle with Butters, the frequencies those little fuzzballs purr at actually promote healing.
Sarah! The hydraulic lifters were dry. That means they were sitting and the oil eventually came out of them. They require an amount of PSI to reach the lifters so unplug the 20A fuse in the fuse panel for the fuel pump on the door, take the plug wires off the coils, and if you want unplug the injectors. Then, use the starter for like 10 seconds. that will allow oil pressure to get oil into the lifters. I did the same thing when i rebuilt my motor! I thought it was ruined lol...
I heard you say you went to school for this stuff, if you really did then you got this stuff. Don't doubt your self, I believe in you and there are many others that believe you so great job!
So nice to see you get some redemption for the potato .. ur Audi .. Hopefully your next project won't be so demoralizing for you .. we love your videos, and thank you for keepin' on keepin' on ..
yes exactly 3 years, just bought a 2003 tt turbo and manifold removed, new parts , i just need to assemble. your videos will probably be inspiring and useful.
This video is 3 years old and I am enjoying the content. Been looking for a early 2000's 6 speed Quattro to be my next project car. Definitely going to pull the engine when I get it. Already watched the VW beetle series. You have a great channel.
Im so glad you’re real and do real good work. UA-cam seems to full of either janky stuff or fake/overpriced/out of reach stuff. Keep it up sarah you are a flower in this UA-cam desert.
Been having a rough year and the positivity in your videos helps I enjoy these videos and your car reviews...thanks for the content and appreciate all the time u put into them
I banged my knee at a water park years ago. Did not brake it but bruised the soft tissue. It took about 3 months for all the pain and discomfort to go away. It was good to see Mr. Dos again.
Hi Sarah, sorry for my bad english. The valve ticking is normal, ist the "Leerlaufdrehzahlsteller" (I dont know the Word in english :( ). When the motor is cold it controls the rpm. if the motor not running for a longer time it need longer to bo quiet. By dayly use it is gone in a view seconds. I hope you understand. I´m a fan from germany and i like that you do all this work in your garage. Thats really great. Your knowledge about cars is very good.
Fantastic news, well done Sarah! Hope your arm gets better real soon. Looking forward to seeing the Potato run, let's see some boost! Hope it gets you to SEMA and back fine, then it sells quickly so you can get the MR2 out of storage, get your Focus completed and another project on the way. How about an Abarth 595?!
NICE!!!! EVERY EVERY EVERY mech/gear head has done exactly everything and had exactly everything happen that you have....so you are in good great fantastic company!!! I look forward to all your vids, your humor, your no fear attack of projects etc.i love your car reviews and your live chats.i miss littke sarah ,i love the new canera assistant...so....in a nutshell i really enjoy your channel.thank you.
Its from the hydraulic lifters not having any oil in them for awhile and like you found out if you let it run for awhile the get oil pressure back and stop ticking. But sometimes one might take longer or not stop ticking at all and needs to get replaced. The other problem that sometimes happens is that the injectors will get clogged from sitting for too long.
Glad the elbow is better always a good sign when you know it is feeling better and not just hoping it is. I could see you were happy by the thumbnail The TT back in business and the elbow double score good for you🤞
Actually me too. Been a long ride. I have the 1999 plate, but was garaged for 12 years. Took a while to get it started. I've had the same smile on my face twice. Ha ha. "Well done Sarah" Awsome job.
Congratulations hun on getting the TT running. Your strong willed and always preserve. All odds. Lots of hugs your way and smiles of joy for you getting your car going. 😊 I also have to say how much your videos brighten up my whatever time I’m watching them always excited to see yo videos
Grare to hear your arm is getting better and good to see teter tot ready to rock and rool . Looking forward to seen it back on the road and you doing a revue on it
Wow! Not only talented, funny and educational, you are psychic too! I'm actually watching this 3 years after you put this video up! Que the X-Files......
My Volvo 850 has a similarly tight clearance between exhaust/ turbo and firewall. Whenever I have to work back there, I loosen the front two subframe bolts and let the whole powertrain sag forwards. Gives a good extra amount of clearance and definitely worth the short amount of time it takes to do it.
Im feeling your pain. Im currently building an 8J TTRS and its been a real pita. Whole new front ens, whole new braking system with Aston Martin front brakes (cheaper than Audi ones), lowering kit (car now sits around 60mm from the floor) and so much more including full repaint in Nardo Grey. Looking to go Stage 2 on it too.
Hey Sarah, so glad it's coming together finally! btw,, check out all those one-way valves( @ 8:15) in the PCV system as they tend to leak and you loose Boost thru them. I found some good quality Alloy ones on eBay for decent $$'s ...good luck & keep up with the great content(hope your arm gets better soon!)
SUPER CONGRATZ on the TT now that it is up and running. I know from the videos that it was starting to be a little bit bothersome for you. GO SARAH GO!!!
The ticking noise happens when you dont run it for a long time. The cams chain tensioner gets tension by oil pressure, it is highest on the head, so takes a little to pressurize and tension the the chain.
The ticking is an acoustic combination of the hydraulic lifters and the injectors. If it gets too loud, move up to 5w-40 if you’re at 5w-30. If it gets too bad, prob replace the lifters. My 1.8 has always done it before and after my rebuild. Varies in annoyance. Nowhere as bad as the hydro lifters on my miata.
Hey Sarah you know you can remove the clocks and desolder the lcd screen to fit a new one that is not pixalated. I think you can buy the new screens for about 40 dollars. Simple job and makes all your work on the car worth while.
I am watching this video 3 years later and love it
Your commitment and determination to complete your TT is absolutely fantastic. What a star🏴
The ending of this video made me so genuinely happy. Your face put a smile on my face. Yay TeeterTot!

Lifter bled down.
The hydros need time to get pressurized

Congratulations on the new milestone, TT's on the streetees! :D
Never met a mechanic that doesn't swear. Also never met a mechanic with your looks or skills. No one compares to you. You bring happiness to so many.
Nice job Sarah. Been watching your progress over the past few months. Thanks for sharing your accomplishment with the rest of us.
1.8T motors are tickers. very normal. the noise comes from injectors. One good thing to do is prime your engine before a startup after letting a car sit for soo long. 3 years later, I'm binge watching the whole series... what a prophet you are, Sarah!!!
Very proud of you. This car has pretty much fought you every step of the way. I can't count how many times you took that front bumper off.
Sarah, great job!
I have been watching since you purchased the TT and Mr2.
To see them both running is awesome!

Don't freak out...don't freak out. I think I love you
You're such a ray of sunshine when you get excited/happy & smile.

YAY! Congratulations on the Teeter Tot starting! Good job, Sarah!
Yay for success! I deeply admire your persistence, and I thought of you yesterday as I removed my sunroof cassette for the seventh time...
That is an awesome result, having watched your videos I never doubted the outcome. Congratulations!
I love how you said, “I just need this car to be OK,” and the puts up a big “OK” on the dash.
Congratulations on start up and final assembly. I'm so happy to see that car purring.
Congrat's, Sarah, and nice work. Car sounds good; can't wait for you to take it for a spin.
God job Sarah you conquered that challenge !!!
You have a Volkswagen product. It's not suppose to work. Great work, Sarah! Keep it up!!
Wooooo! Great work! It’s rewarding to get a project back to running!
Nothing in the ENTIRE world better than seeing my girl smile !!!!
I am actually watching this video from the "future", 3 years (almost to the day!) from (what was) now and I am also glad I found your video! 😅 😍
Congratulations on the startup.

So Proud Sarah. Tears of Joy!!!!!!!
Your enthusiasm in the end is contagious, very well done!
SUPER CONGRATZ on the TT now that it is up and running. I know from the videos that it was starting to be a little bit bothersome for you. GO SARAH GO!!!
Ticking is from the cam chain slack. The tensioner driven by oil pressure and takes a bit to build tension after sitting for a while.
Great Work! I'm glad you didn't give up on this car and you are seeing it through to the end.
The ticking noise happens when you dont run it for a long time. The cams chain tensioner gets tension by oil pressure, it is highest on the head, so takes a little to pressurize and tension the the chain.
A little over 3 and a half years in the future, very happy you got it running!
Fantastic job :) I applaud your patience and tenacity.. Girl power!!!
A smiling Sarah, is a happy Sarah, that's what we like! Tator Tot lives once again and will be hitting streets near you!
The ticking is an acoustic combination of the hydraulic lifters and the injectors. If it gets too loud, move up to 5w-40 if you’re at 5w-30. If it gets too bad, prob replace the lifters. Finally an episode ends on a positive note. Your hard work and perseverance has paid off.
I can't count how many times I have heard Sarah say "no-ahh" when something bad happens, and "Yay-yah" when it's good.
Yeah buddy!!
Hey Sarah you know you can remove the clocks and desolder the lcd screen to fit a new one that is not pixalated. I think you can buy the new screens for about 40 dollars. Simple job and makes all your work on the car worth while.
