Northern Ireland registration plates such as this one can be legally put on vehicles in England, Wales and Scotland. Unlike the usual UK plate format, NI plates are dateless. This is why they are often put on older vehicles to hide their true age. In that sense, they are considered as cherished, or private plates.
Some mainlanders put NI plates on because they are the cheapest and hide the age. See a lot of “MAZ” plates on Mazdas, I had and MX5 that came with “MAZ 6969” paid £700 for the car, sold the plate for £400. My old man use to work for a English coach firm that reg’d all their coaches with NI plates. Hid the age of the fleet a bit.

Amazing purchase. I bought a 2006 Flying Spur Mulliner when it was 9 years old for £20k. Spent a few quid to make it beautiful again and loved every minute and mile of ownership. Keep it for a while and enjoy the power and prestige.
Engine light can be as simple as low fuel , then being refilled with normal unleaded, these W12s don’t like low grade fuel. We’ve owned an 04 GT since 2008, I’ve lost count of the amount of times the EML light has come on and gone off of its own accord. Sometimes disconnecting both batteries for 20 minutes and reconnecting them can reset the lamp. Unfortunately you’ll need to get into the boot to get to the batteries. On this era of car, it’s a two person job, remove the seat base cushion of the rear drivers side seat, a sharp pull up releases it from its plastic dowels. Then slide the backrest downwards with a thump on the top, it’s held in place with an interference fit in the rear parcel shelf cowling. This exposes a metal tang in a quadrant cutout in the rear bulkhead. This can be moved with a pair of pliers , it’s spring loaded and tough to do. At the same time a helper should be ready to manually lift the boot lid on the outside. This year of car has power lock only and not electric opening or closing, which is simpler to access and has less to go wrong. The lid is very heavy as it incorporates the raising spoiler mechanism. The Hotel battery in the passenger rear wing is likely to run down and lose charge if the car is not used for long periods. The starter battery in the drivers side wing rarely loses its charge though. The Hotel one is naturally the more expensive one! Many dash warning lights can be a result of a depleted hotel battery. Sometimes the abs/ traction control lamps can be on and then go off as a system relearn after a flat battery episode. The brake lamp failure is inevitably the rear screen LED cable failing where it leaves the roof lining and passes through the roof, originally Bentley fitted the lamp unit then bonded the rear screen in over its lip… Bentley used to quote nearly £3000 to change the lamp😂, now there’s a kit to dremel the old one out and the new one has a clip in lip finisher. Beware of failing window mechanisms, they are too heavy being double glazed and they are steel cable operated in nylon pulleys that crack and fail…, also sagging headliners, the foam backing between the leather headliner disintegrates and loses adhesion with the roof board. Good luck!
Very much looking forward to part 2 and you saying how much you've overspent to the max!!! I hope the paintwork's okay - it could be an absolutely stunning car for not too much money

Thank God it's fallen into the hands of someone willing and able to rescue it. I dearly love these cars, it's what a supercar should be.. Power and style.. The problem they suffer from is nothing to do with their construction, it's that they fall into the hands of people able to buy them but don't appreciate that they cost even more to maintain than a 5 year old version. The labour and parts costs don't depreciate at the same rate as the car.. in fact, it needs more attention as it gets older, not less !.
If a 'supercar' has a specific designation then I'm unaware of it, and if it looks like a lozenge, hopelessly impractical for anything other than being parked in Knightsbridge, you can keep it. Yes, this is a true GT.. to me, as someone who wants to drive from the UK to Istanbul via Geneva without a second thought, then it's also a supercar.
I had a 2004 one in Neptune Blue. 40k miles and bought for £20k. I bought it just before lock down, mistake. Sat in the garage on a trickle. I did 1,400 miles in that car before selling it on after 3 years for £14k. In between I spent £5k. Including calling the AA out because the air suspension collapsed on the front. It was a car I always wanted to own and I rue the day I bought it. Whilst the engine was epic, it just felt like an old man’s car to me all that wood, leather and Wilton carpets. I still covet the shape but it wasn’t a good experience. So over engineered the hand brake has two electric motors, the bonnet close sensors if they fail it’s a new panel, the door and wing had to come off to change a headlamp bulb.

The boot lid has a mechanical release behind the off side rear seat back but the power motor which would normally operate the boot lid is a common failure and the part is no longer available with second hand ones being like rocking horse poo. I agree unwrap this car and machine polish the original paint. It has the best colour trim split with the right amount on contrasting leather and the leather headlining doesn't look like it's sagging, another well know issue due to the glue failing which bonds the leather to the composite board headliner. If you remove the bonnet release handle the actual cable can be pulled with strong mole grips as it's just not pulling that last quarter of inch to pop the oval badge. When the bonnet is finally raised remove. the plastic scuttle panel over the wiper mechanism and see if the water drain holes are clear. If blocked with debris, leaves etc go to the passenger side front carpet and lift the main carpet and feel for damp or water. Blocked drain holes result in water entering the car's interior. If wet, be aware there is a large ECU sitting on the floor which can cause electronic issues if wet or corroded. Otherwise crack on and update us in part 2.
Apparantly in the US a company re designed the internal system of gears that the motor turns. The UA-cam channel called The Car Wizard first explored this modification. Don't know if anyone in the UK has replicated the design without possibly compromising a patent.
I love that original silver colour, especially with that cognac interior. I have a feeling that with a wrap strip and silver wheels done...this will look well dandy.

You should take a road trip to Germany, on an unlimited speed autobahn stretch, and see how fast you dare drive it! Fastest I dared was 135 mph in a Saab 9-3 turbo about 15 years ago, but that's because there was buffeting and noise coming from the aerofoil, didn't want to risk it flying off! Before that, back in the 90s I managed 125mph in a Cavalier SRi, loved it!
I had to take 3 Russians from duesseldorf to Amsterdam, I was allowed to hire an Audi Quattro so off we went, once out of the Ruhr we were on a quiet autobahn heading north, still in Germany and I put my foot down, at 200kph I said to the Russians,' look guys - 200 kph' and turned to see their reaction, sheer terror, they had never been faster than about 90 / 100 kph, so I slowed down and they felt better.
@@AnthonyTobyEllenor-pi4jqI would have thought 90 kph in a Lada would be more terrifying than 200 in an actual car. 😆 I wonder if they were ever in the 16 valve Lada, 8 in the engine and 8 in the radio. 🤣
Hahaha I hit a pinch over 130mph in a vw jetta 2.0 diesel that had been remapped i overtook a merc who tried not letting me pass so I put my foot down and he did too he let off about 110/115 I kept going and once I reached the roundabout ahead turned off and had to sit for 5 mins wiping the sweat off my face it was scary as fuck thought the wheels was comming off with the vibrations 😂
I raced a 'mad' Silverado with my 'new' 1984 Dodge D50 long bed with two bald rear tires and won when the lights changed his red and I was turning and mine turned Green.
I agree the original colour is much nicer but I think removing the wrap is asking for trouble. I suspect it's hiding something. I'd leave the wrap on and paint the wheels silver.
Number 3 on YT Trending. Nice work! If youve got deep pockets and fancy a little project, these are a used car bargain for a weekend car/pissing around. Even if some of the horses have left the stable engine power wise it'll still worry Ecoboosts and GTD's at traffic lights 😁
Not always. Maybe the last owner was a diehard Everton, Chelsea or Rangers fan - especially the latter if living in Belfast and wanted to show his true colours.....
The grey is a bit bland for some, I think last owner wanted it brighter but probably wasn't willing to pay the repaint cost so got it wrapped it on the cheap to look like what was popular at the time. I think the paint will be fine underneath, I hope for his sake haha🤞
Can`t wait for part two.! What a motor,it`s absolutely gorgeous .You should definitely keep it and use it as your daily drive.Just inagine turning up for your business deals in that, very impressive. Also road trip is a good idea.I`d love to own that car.
The fact it runs and drives for 5K is a bargain. Interior is very clean, as long as the wrap isn’t hiding atrocious paint damage, it could be your best buy yet!
Unwrapping is a nightmare. But worth doing . But taking a lot of panels off and means potentially showing what horror stories are beneath or even pealing the lacquer off from the original paintwork
The second I saw the car I immediately knew that was a wrap. It's not worth painting a car like that nowadays when you can get good-quality wraps! (By the way, Matt I was also thinking of that series of W-DEALERS with the ridiculous Range Rover! Lol

Cut an access hatch in the gearbox tunnel?
Might the Boot lid power motor be rebuilt as an alternative to replacing it with second-hand?
Agree, the rack aids access but still a very difficult repair.
Cut a hole in the transmssion !!!!! Imagine.
In the time it took me to watch this another 4000 views were added! Well deserved success Matt! Keep em coming!
You're a very calm individual. Your videos relax me.
Absolutely wonderful. Your courage. Our amusement. Something different. Good to have something so different amongst a range of cars one may think of buying at between £3-6,000
Really looking forward to seeing the final car Matt... love it.
This is going to need more than new number plates 😊😊
Yeah a good buff as well obvs
Why does he always get new plates when not need 🤦😆
Sometimes you just need to get things out of your system and live a little.
I foresee significant overspend, followed by massive fuel bills for each journey @4 mpg (=58,8 l/100km 😂) - good luck with that, Matt!
@David-z4y2c you didn't watch the whole thing, or just not paying attention, he clearly said he was getting 7mpg.
Thank you for the candid video, warts and all.
EXCITING! More like this Matt 🙏
Nice 'Paninaro' reference at 2:05. Oddly enough, I knew you were going to complete the quote when you started with 'I don't like much really'.
Good catch

Can I just say that I’m late to the party in subscribing/following only in the last month or so but I love this guys morals and values in life. He comes across as million percent trustworthy and all three of my daughters are coming up to the age of owning their first cars as soon as they’ve passed their test and I will definitely be checking high peak autos out for their purchases 👍🏼
Hope you get a discount for all that smarm!
@@polymath9372 😂😂😂😂
If a car salesman comes across as a Million Percent Trustworthy, he has been to the Tony Blair School of Smarm.
Careful on unwrapping. I saw and Amg Marc this morning where the wrap had failed it was a primer underneath the wrap. Quick way to replace a panel without painting it
*merc
Another paint, tape Yoda, respect.
Another great video Matt. Yes, definitely unwrap her! Can’t wait to see the original paint. Suggest also getting the leather cleaned and conditioned to remove any shine.
Enjoyed part one, looking forward to part two to see what you find after the first inspection. Could be interesting, especially as I'm not paying. Really hope it's not too bad and you keep it for a while.
When I took my Bentley to a well known specialist, I said that I was thinking of buying a Conti GT. The advice was don't, unless it's a V8. Engine out to change a starter motor. People just scrap them, or in this case sell it to Matt. Best of luck!
😂
@@Drivetime2u or your dad is a Bentley mechanic and you have all the equipment
My local specialist who I know very well, also said leave the early cars alone and pay a bit more for a V8.
We keep Bentley's, Honda's and toyotas get scraped away
Was that a cheeky Paninaro quote? Not heard that in years. Top stuff Matt
“I’m thinking I might just keep this,” is the new High Peak Auto mantra
Reel that monster carp in, easy, easy
Only after the headlights have been buffed
Wow, what a car for the money! The inside was a pleasant surprise.
Would like to see the wrap off. Always wondered how easy it would be to remove and what the paint underneath would look like.
Don’t blame you for keeping this one Matt x
Subscribed to see what happens in part two can’t wait enjoying the channel
this car should have a series not just 2 videos... THIS CAR CAN MAKE YOUR CHANNEL RICH
And him poor 😊😊😊
This could be an amazing car. Like you say get rid of the tacky plate. A W12 plate from DVLA @£399 ? W12HPA would look great ! Remove the wrap, refurbish the wheels in silver sparkle ✨ full service, full valet. One to raffle off ??
I’m excited to see this one finished Matt. Good luck with it pal. Hopefully see it back on here real soon. Best video in a while. A true iconic car.
Wise beyond his years and I said the V when in reality W12 tasty growl British Bulldog SWEET
It’s a standard Northern Irish plate, which makes sense if it was based in Belfast.
I remember hoovies garage buying a cheap Continental GT without viewing it first. Turned out it was from Russia and had about 5 milage roll backs on it.
It was one of the videos that helped make his channel and involved "massively overspending" to levels we've not yet seen on Matt's channel 😁
5 …..?
@@paulmcgee1867 more roll backs than ASDA 😂
@ what’s a roll back?
@@OldSkoolCarpMan I dont think he ever actually got it fixed properly? Didnt he give it to Freddy, or was that the Audi? So many crap cars on so many channels, who can keep up.
That will make a great car Matt, I’m looking forward to seeing what you do with it❤.
Good luck with it 👍 I remember that episodes of wheeler dealers
I wonder if they were ever in the 16 valve Lada, 8 in the engine and 8 in the radio.
Bahamas anyone?
I raced a 'mad' Silverado with my 'new' 1984 Dodge D50 long bed with two bald rear tires and won when the lights changed his red and I was turning and mine turned Green.
Nice one! Could you time lapse the unwrap? That would be cool! Good luck and a good save .
I agree the original colour is much nicer but I think removing the wrap is asking for trouble. I suspect it's hiding something.
I'd leave the wrap on and paint the wheels silver.
Does or do they wrap rims?
Bring that part 2 I'm quite interested to watch keep it up
Number 3 on YT Trending. Nice work!
If youve got deep pockets and fancy a little project, these are a used car bargain for a weekend car/pissing around. Even if some of the horses have left the stable engine power wise it'll still worry Ecoboosts and GTD's at traffic lights 😁
How hard a life can a car possibly have had if it's only done 120,000 miles.
My Peugeot partner has done 326,000 and it's still going strong.
Seriously can't wait for part 2. Seeing the wrap come off will be seriously cathartic. 👍
I was waiting for a Bentley video :)
Fascinating project you brave man.👍
Looking Forward ''
To the next episode '''
All the Best Matt 🤞🤞
The Service Record should be written on Parchment... with a Quill
With gold ink 😂
Fore score and
Just what I’ve been waiting for!! It just had to be done, they are such good value now. Just ask Tavarish and Hoovie. 🤣
@@fxkraft1037You must have seen his Electric blue painted leather Buggati
Wraps are usually done for a reason, it will be interesting to see what is found
Yes you want a colour change, you can’t hide damage or deep scratches under a wrap the show through.
One of your best episodes, I grinned all the way through it. Thanks
Can`t wait for part two.! What a motor,it`s absolutely gorgeous .You should definitely keep it and use it as your daily drive.Just inagine turning up for your business deals in that, very impressive. Also road trip is a good idea.I`d love to own that car.
I good Mk5 golf GTI of the same age roughly costs about the same. Depriciation is very real.
To open the bonnet you pop it like you did - but you need to lift it up a little for the badge to pop up 👍🏻
The fact it runs and drives for 5K is a bargain. Interior is very clean, as long as the wrap isn’t hiding atrocious paint damage, it could be your best buy yet!
It's sad that a vinyl wrap will almost always cheapen the appearance of a car.
This one is definitely a keeper Matt, excellent find sir, back in the original colour that will look awesome
Love to see more of this GT, that grey/peanut-butter combo is soooooooo good.
Omg ,this will be good👌🍻
Is that a crack in your Range Rover windscreen or am I seeing things?
I see it too.
glad it wasn't just me over focusing on that
Same, well spotted friend. 👌☺️
Definitely a big crack there!
That’s a whopper of a stone chip. Poor Matt, virtually a brand new car and already a windscreen replacement.
Unwrapping is a nightmare. But worth doing .
But taking a lot of panels off and means potentially showing what horror stories are beneath or even pealing the lacquer off from the original paintwork
AGREED
Hi Matt lovin yer "disclaimer" and only thirty seconds in... more comments to follow. The GTC is my fave. ✨
Wow, the factory colour combo of biscuit leather and grey paint looks fantastic! Very tasteful! This could be a keeper!
Now this is a content car right here
I normally don't bother with "i bought the cheapest" videos
But £5k for a Conti GT is mad 😂
It's interesting to see someone else do it instead of ones self 😅😅
I'm sure the dealer who took it in part exchange was delighted to see it gone. A 120k mile car is always that, no matter how nice you make it.
Excited to see you getting this up to standard.
Very interesting indeed!
Very much looking forward to part 2.
The second I saw the car I immediately knew that was a wrap. It's not worth painting a car like that nowadays when you can get good-quality wraps! (By the way, Matt I was also thinking of that series of W-DEALERS with the ridiculous Range Rover! Lol
Not sure I would choose sweet wrapper blue though!
It will be interesting to see what state the paintwork is in if Matt does unwrap it.
W÷D fan
The very best of luck Matt with this one this is going to be SO interesting cannot wait for part two
Remove the interior, fit a roll cage and take it banger racing.
Love the disclaimer at the beginning 😂 Ohh and I love Terry's Chocolate Orange 😍
What a brilliant find. It is going to be a bit of a rollercoaster with this project, Matt. Amazing car, glad you have it not me!
I like this one Matt and looking forward to the following video on it
Car Vertical says "no history or ever being involved in an accident"
Which also means
Has never been owned or driven by Marcus Rashford
Oh oh somebody's stole the wonder grip van.
I really like the blue, it's a shame to take the wrap off. It just needs the wheels in silver.
I concur 🧐
Ecohes my thoughts
That's a lovely top,fleece ,jacket you're wearing. Very smart.
Hi Matt, I’ve binge watched loads of your videos and I think you make fantastic content. I’m planning to take the course soon as well. I can’t stop watching, every time I’m about to turned my laptop off I find another video and watch that!
Regarding the Bentley, you’re always saying you’re quite a slow driver so why not take it on the autobahn and see if it still can reach nearly 200 mph. Loving the content, I will almost definitely buy my next car from you. 😁
I'm so glad the vapour was coming from the back exhaust and not the front one, that would have been expensive.
Owned by someone in bradford
Immediate walk away
I can just imagine !
Yes, I have made that mistake before too.😂
I think your gonna struggle getting that wrap off,if its the cheap stuff or once it gets old it'll break into a million pieces and once you've started you can't stop..like a million piece jigsaw, but in reverse.lol.
Ah mate I love that colour! Completely agree with you about the black wheels though… I’ve only just started to watch the video so looking forward to seeing what you do with them.
Can't wait for part 2, awesome car.
Just waiting for part 2 where you say ''I've massively overspent''.
That was my first thought - it looks 'wrapped'. Much better in the original colour - unwrap it Matt.
you really think he did not know?
@@ionutzuuuu No, and that's not the point - Its A SHOW.
WHAT??? a Bentley for 5k?? i need to wash my eyes.
And it drives and looks good? What kind of sorcery is this?
Great video. Dream car. Looking forward to part 2. Thanks
You've got yourself a decent motor for that price!! Cannot wait for the finished project!!
