Most definitely wrap that manifold..use several coats of the VHT ceramic header primer and paint, bake it on according instruction on the can...then use exhaust wrap using stainless zip ties. It's a good bit of work, but worth it!
Not a bad idea but most of those coatings really dislike adhering rust. I'd just wrap it if it will be sold. Wrap can promote rust by holding moisture, but takes a long time to really impact cast iron.
@@hdrenginedevelopment7507 you're right if that is cast iron, wrapping can cause it to crack, in which coating only with a fabricated metal shield would be better
I would be the worst UA-camr it's impressive that you hold yourself to the schedule. Thanks for the entertainment and hanging out. I think you're vlog to info ratio is good. seeing the way you take on the project is fun. You're quite charismatic.
I like watching you work. Car reviews are fine but your ability as a mechanic and tenacity in working things through is truly admirable. Frankly I find you so inspiring I'd watch you do pretty much anything you'd like to do. Keep it up and don't get disheartened.
Answer to the question: Being authentic goes a long way, that’s why I love your video, there is no formula, your fans are down to ride, because we appreciate your personality and competency.
I have to be honest, I don't really prefer any percentage of vlog VS wrenching. I just think it's cool you mix things up every so often. I think it fits. Besides, part of the like here is that you are kind of haphazardly charming with your vids sometimes. I know you want real-world feedback, but I literally have none as far as percentages of doing this or that. Just keep doing what you are doing and I am sure you'll get the feedback as it happens.
jonthecomposer I like that phrase, "haphazard charm" sums her up! The amount of work she has been able to accomplish without a fully fitted out shop is amazing. My sister used to have a Golf TDI which developed a problem with it's turbo. The engine bay layout was similar to the TT but less cramped. The first thing they did was remove the engine and put it on a stand! Sarah is smart, funny, and an exceptional mechanic. Her sense of humour and the random cultural references make this the best car maintenance channel.
It's your channel, you set the correct percentage of vlog and wrenching. In my opinion though, you have a good ratio right now. Insulate the turbo manifold, it'll help keep engine compartment temps down and spoil up.
Hi Sarah, just so you know, you can take the turbo out with the oil return pipe and the coolant pipe on the turbo, i just changed the turbo on my "audi tt 225 APX" last week, to a Hybrid core with a bigger turbine wheel. And to put it back on the car, i did put it with the pipes already on it as well, otherwise you will struggle a lot if you put the turbo in place first.
That was perfect the way you did this video... Explained while working some at speed and some fast forward, talking for a while with that adorable sense of humor and that friggin beautiful face in the camera.... Great video!!
I like the format of you narrating in the videos, I think that can up the amount of work being done and the quality of the videos as well as reduce some unnecessary rambling that some channels are known for!
Header wrap is a “Yes.” It’s a good, quick heat solution and relatively easy, especially if you do sell your TT. Thanks for the entertaining and helpful videos. Keep all the innuendo and keep being You. There’s Nothing better than being the one and only Sarah. Here’s to you hitting 200 thousand Sub’s soon!
Definitely wrap it paint and primer first looks like you’re prepping to do that. percentages whatever formula you’re using now seems to be just right I wouldn’t change a thing. This video had great timing and flow I really liked The Camera rising up with the car and the storm coming in excellent touches and thumbs up that’s what really cool people do who doesn’t like a thumbs up 👍
6:35 - I like the explanation over sped up working. I like the quirky commentary mixed profusely with innuendos, work, and struggles... I wouldn't change too much, keep it random Sarah, it's nice not knowing what to expect. If you're worried about excess heat from the manifold, you might as well wrap it (test fit it in the car first though). Great suggestion on the Malaka channel, I watched a video there that showed IROZ motorsports and what they offer... Makes me want to sell a couple vehicles and buy their engine package for an Audi.
Great video Sarah ! As a matter of fact, I would put this one among your top 5 for sure... You are continuously improving your video work. Editing is crisper, format is smooth and your commenting your work is a welcome addition.Your choices of music have always been very good so don't lose that. I really like the little finger pointing icons... and the arm socks... No wonder they charge a pretty penny whenever you bring an Audi to the dealership... In most cases on repairs like this one they would just bring down the engine anbd charge you an arm and a leg for it.
Yes to a wrap or heat protection on the exhaust manifold. I like the music you play during the videos, but I actually learned a lot more this time because you were talking about what you were doing.
Yeah there's enough warning lights that have shown up on the TT already and no telling if a 'DANGER TO MANIFOLD' idiot light comes on if she doesn't wrap that puppy!!!!
I don't recommend wrapping since higher heat build up inside manifold can overheat and destroy the header . Ceramic coating inside manifold will move the heat back and your catalytic converter will work more efficiently. And looks nicer too 😊
Love how you mix it up. Really liked the narration during the time-lapse and adding in the lightning shot was brilliant. Yes, I agree with most others; wrap the header. Thanks for all the hard work!
I'm a little late, but the voice over was nice. The balance of vlog/wrenching was good in this video. I'll probably never have to pull a turbo on a TT, but it was nice to hear you explain what you were doing. :)
Girl life is an adventure with you ! ☝️🤣 U are very entertaining and wow the sky was crazy beautiful during the storm! Great stuff as usual !😏👌 Oh and once again u work crazy fast but the prod. quality is great as always cudos!
I liked the voiceover portions of the video! The extra explanation of what you're working on is really interesting. As far as the ratio of wrenching to vlogging, keep us on our toes! You do a great job of keeping things interesting and entertaining, and I feel like putting it down to formula might take away some of that. That said, you do you! I'm sure whatever you decide will be as interesting as ever!
Great video, Sarah. Whenever you work on Teeter Tot, I cringe at all the BS things that the car does to you! But, we all know you have the patience and tenacity to get the job done! It will also be a big prize to see this car done; running down the road. Soon...very soon...I'm sure. As far as wrapping the manifold...absolutely! Great idea. That's been a performance upgrade on turbo cars forever. A turbo blanket would make the whole package complete. Keep up the great work. Love your channel.
Wow I dont know how I missed this one! Great time there, and maybe spray the Ortho spray around the perimeter of the garage in case you end up with spiders..they will crawl over it and die. Better safe than sorry...keep the awesome vids rolling!
I feel your pain! It took me 2 weeks to do a k04 swap on my passat. I had to put in/take out the turbo 4 times and get a coupling fabricated before it was finally finished. It was my first time.. now I could do it in a couple hours lol
I tune in for the stories as you discover things. I am more interested in the conversation, but quick segments of wrenching with commentary is cool too.
First, you're awesome and I think you do a great job with the vlog/work mix. Second, wrap the head. You never cut corners unless there's no real choice. Keep being your awesome self
I can't really give you numbers, all I can say is I have zero complaints. In fact, I watch a lot of UA-cam channels and when I get busy I save them for later, but when I see a new video from you in my feed I watch it immediately. The TT does give me some anxiety because I am seeing my future when I get back to work on my GTI. Luckily it doesn't have AWD and that project is years down the road because it's back in the states in a lonely storage unit just like Mr. Dos. =P
Peppermint oil (15-20 drops) in a spray bottle of water. Spray at will. Spiders hate peppermint and will bolt. Plus, TT will have good breath... I like the wrenching part of the video (with setup/explanation). Heat wrap works well, it's just not purrty. Thanks again!
I had this vid paused to reply to a friend's text. She was telling me how Friends contradicts itself because Phoebe gets upset when Joey blows her off but she does the same thing to Ross. I unpause the video and you say "Phoebe Buffay bushing" and I'm like holy coincidence cat woman!
I read you have to remove the axle from the passenger side to access the turbo and yes I would wrap the header or manifold because you don't have a heat shield I really admire what you've done with the tt it was such a pile when you and lil sarah did the vlog after you purchased him
I agree with several others. We enjoy watching you tackling these challenges and keeping us up to speed on what you are doing through whatever mix of deliveries you choose. I have enjoyed every one of your videos. Remember don't beat yourself up. Captain Obvious says we can tell that for the most part you are doing this on your own because...ahem...just in case you don't know it we can see your helpers that occasionally show up. :) Keep on keeping on and we will keep on watching you. You got 201 comments in 1 1/2 hours. You are obviously doing something right!
Use an automotive high heat paint to prevent rust and then wrap it. I love your content because you mix it up and keep things fresh. Have a great week!!!!
The good news - you got all the hard to reach nuts & bolts off (or almost all). The bad news - putting them back on will be a royal pain. Guess that's in Pt2. Good luck. Hopefully these items take care of your issues (with Tetter Tot).
I love your "Deer in the Headlights" look. I'll bet you get carded allot. I also like the change up on post production, i.e., music, narrative... recommend well placed sound effect bites.
titanium heat wrap for sure. my IATs were super high until i did that. I ALSO put in a $10 piece of aluminum as a "ducting" to prevent hot getting to cold. I have a straight forward engine setup rather than transverse. Wear gloves i've been told there is fiberglass in it!
FINALLYYYYYYYY. I couldnt wait, had to just remove my turbo myself lol. had the same issue where the sleeve came out while undoing the bolt. its basically like a heli coil insert. Struggled with the oil and coolant lines but yeah kinda good at it now. blind feeling from the top of the motor . this car is a PITA to work on . I need to replace my Phoebe Bouchet Bushing lol
Wrap it, great to see the small sarah. Yeah, I had a coolant return line come off in my old a6 2.7t, it require removing the starter engine mounts/braces, while being in service position to put a .99 cent clamp on.
Holy frustration, BatWoman! Knuckleheaded zombies must have been the original engineers of your two project cars. You couldn't pay me enough to work on that s***, even when I wrenched for a living. Hand.......Salute(!) to you for bearing with such messes on wheels. I definitely need to show more love to my 47yo track(eventually) car, 47yo non-winter driver pickup and 33yo street/strip mini-pickup. They ask for so little, and give so much, comparatively. I would bet a month's income that you could change valvesprings on any of my old rides quicker than you could fix just about anything on Teeter Tot or Mister Dos. Then you'd be sayin': "That's it? We're done? All I had to remove was the valve covers and the parts to be replaced? It just CAN'T be!" Hats off to you for being such a stick-to-itive trooper. Here's hoping they'll be so close to your goals for them, when done, that you can say "...it was worth it..."
Hi Sarah wrapping the manifold would be the way to go I know your are selling the t.t sad to see mrdos in storage but you need the space it will be good to see the completed car good job Sarah nice to see little Sarah looking forward to next vlog
I found header wrap to be unsightly, and it would collect oil and dirt. On my next project, I ceramic coated the headers instead. The ceramic coating is much better IMO!
Yes definitely put header wrap on the manifold. Gotta keep the heat down in the engine bay so your AC can work most efficiently. Really don't want you to melt in the desert. Atleast not inside the car. You're going to do it in that garage no matter how hard you try.
Google search said that chlorine smell could get the spider out. I used diluted Dettol and mixed with water to spray little on the interior to get that smell. (I like the Dettol smell to keep car smell fresh and insects out. Amazon sells the Dettol small 4.22oz bottle that you can try it out. )
Do not wrap it! It will crack in short order, especially if cast iron. Have it ceramic coated, or fab up a heat shield. Do not ceramic coat the inside. If it flakes off, it could trash the turbine. Also, you are supposed to put the drain pan under before releasing the Shmoo, not after...😂
I think you're doing a great thing with voicing over explaining what is being done. Your videos are also very entertaining with your sense of humour. Great job as always. 👏🏻👍😀
Nice work; I envy your go-to attitude and scratch-proof sleeves. I have heard of strenuous instances where one would have to unbolt half the turbo housing in order to replenish the unit or replace oil line. Also, I'd assume with the steaming Arizona heat that a wrap would benefit.
Being that your boosted, I would advise against wrap. While it does do a good job of trapping in heat. It has no where to go. I’ve seen my share of headers with cracks. I’d coat it or use a heat shield of sorts.
Always wrap b4 inserting!!! Safety first!!! Also, next time your by a Walmart or dollar tree. Buy two of the kiddie pools. They make a great catch pan for coolant and nuts and bolts!!!
I understand you have multiple projects and mixing things up keeps the audience interested in your channel. I certainly appreciate it. With that being said, why don’t you finish Mr. Dos? He’s so close to being done! I want to see you enjoy driving him without worrying about things to do.
Great vlog, hp heat wraps - easier/cleaner application, also Audi is discontinuing the Audi T.T line up for more e-tron production cars. Keep up the great work your awesome, and congrats on finishing Mr Dos project...💯
Sarah may I vote for keeping the TT and moving forward. Your biggest problem is the abuse the car saw in the hands of it's previous "owners". Once the TT is settled they are a very fun, quick, comfortable car. I and my wife have two coupes now, I've also had a previous coupe and roadster. I'm putting together a package of a Colorado plate that was on my '82 Porsche 911 SC (should have never sold that) and a bunch of photos on a jump drive of my work on my various TTs. You do quality work and I very much enjoy your linear process. There are times though that I already can see the dead end your working your way into and wish I could help not just shout at the TV (yup cast UA-cam to my TV) Rick (old-guy) Glesner Littleton, Colorado
you are lucky to keep your car clean, here in the north to keep it in shape and prevent ruest we use oil undercoating... having it all over the arm and sometimes in the hair (i hit my head few times on the underbody wich is covered) its not that great at all
Most definitely wrap that manifold..use several coats of the VHT ceramic header primer and paint, bake it on according instruction on the can...then use exhaust wrap using stainless zip ties. It's a good bit of work, but worth it!
If possible, sand-blast the header with #70 black oxide media. That will help immensely with adhesion. Use the VHT clear as final step.
Indeed.
Not a bad idea but most of those coatings really dislike adhering rust. I'd just wrap it if it will be sold. Wrap can promote rust by holding moisture, but takes a long time to really impact cast iron.
never wrap cast iron. It will cause it to crack, or so I've always heard.
@@hdrenginedevelopment7507 you're right if that is cast iron, wrapping can cause it to crack, in which coating only with a fabricated metal shield would be better

I like watching you work. Car reviews are fine but your ability as a mechanic and tenacity in working things through is truly admirable. Frankly I find you so inspiring I'd watch you do pretty much anything you'd like to do. Keep it up and don't get disheartened.
If you listen carefully you can hear Mr. Dos screaming "Don't lock me in here, I'll be good, I swear."

What this guy said. This is America, last time i checked you can do whatever you want.
^This^ Trust your instincts, Sarah. What you do is working because it's you. Not video by committee.
I agree completely!! Feel it and it’ll be just fine!
I feel the same, love what you do, just keep it the same. You are the ONLY UA-cam’s that I watch every vid beginning to end. I hope this inspires you

That was perfect the way you did this video... Explained while working some at speed and some fast forward, talking for a while with that adorable sense of humor and that friggin beautiful face in the camera.... Great video!!
I like the build narration and the little pointy-hand graphics at what your describing. Really enjoyed this episode.
Big fan of the voiceover commentary over the sped-up footage. Definitely adds to the overall quality of the video.

that's a hell yea to wrapping it! Big difference in underhood temps, and spool up/ responsiveness of the turbo. Win/Win
Great vid- I really liked you over dubbing what you were doing while you sped up the 'film'. That was cool.
Great idea. "You're lucky i washed my car this weekend". Omg thats why i love little sarah.
Wrap it up Sarah! Don’t think, just do. No clearance issues with that manifold I hope! The little one chimes in! 👍🏻😊😊👏
You're right about cleaning, I now making progress fixing my tractor now thats its dirt, oil & grease free.
I tune in for the stories as you discover things. I am more interested in the conversation, but quick segments of wrenching with commentary is cool too.
Much respect for your skills, constant learning and especially your patience. Of all that patience seems the hardest!
YAY! An appearance by roommate Sarah. Cant wait for you to button up the Teter Tot and take it out for a drive!!!
First, you're awesome and I think you do a great job with the vlog/work mix. Second, wrap the head. You never cut corners unless there's no real choice. Keep being your awesome self
good to see little Sarah at the end. you work to hard for all of us
The JBS manifold has traveled some distance, they are based 4 miles from myself here in the Uk! Keep up the good work, I’ve missed project TT 👍

In fact, I watch a lot of UA-cam channels and when I get busy I save them for later, but when I see a new video from you in my feed I watch it immediately. Lot's of respect for the "labor of love" you put into these vehicles! Love watching you work! Yes, wrap that manifold... 🙂
+1 on wrapping the manifold.

My headers were painted and the heat wrap still caused them to rust. Not really an issue since you're using a cast manifold though.
Working on cars is always an adventure! Good video as always.
Sarah, what a nice surprise! Your pace on this install is perfect!
Another Great video. And I love how you mix up the vlogs and wrenching. Doing great Sarah, keep it up
Sarah, you never have to remind me to give you a "thumbs up"... You are absolutely amazing! By the way, you should wrap that manifold.
Yes, wrap it! BTW kitty litter is good for cleaning up wet mess - use fresh stuff though!!
You do a good balance of vlog and wrenching. Yeah innuendos galore 🙌
I think you mix vlogging and wrenching quite well, I like the ratio you hit naturally.
yeah wrap it for safety even if you don't need to, its always good to have pre-precautions!
Sarah you got those at the dollar store! Love your videos! ❤️👍
I like the way you do it now it's like anything can happen. The heat wrap I would vote yes while you have it out
I grunted for ya Sarah when you where pushing it in!
Sarah, I must say, your an amazing lady. Yes wrap the exhaust manifold. You will be glad you did.
I think spiders dont like white vinegar and they usually stay away from the smell. I usually spray 50/50 of white vinegar and water around my garage.
I liked that funky tune at the end of the video. Okay the rest of it was pretty good as well. Keep on keeping on.
I don't mind any certain percentage. You do your thing the way you are now. We all seem to like it that way
Wrapping before hand may work, however it gets bulky and may cover access to bolt holes, nuts. Use welding wire or s/stl straps.
Yay, back on TT
You are awesome and I actually liked the Genie in a Bumper joke
Wow, amazing video Sarah!
Nice work; I envy your go-to attitude and scratch-proof sleeves. I have heard of strenuous instances where one would have to unbolt half the turbo housing in order to replenish the unit or replace oil line. Also, I'd assume with the steaming Arizona heat that a wrap would benefit.
Love the video miss tuned shout out to Malala to you guys really help out with new Audi lovers with massive information 100%
Being that your boosted, I would advise against wrap. While it does do a good job of trapping in heat. It has no where to go. I’ve seen my share of headers with cracks. I’d coat it or use a heat shield of sorts.
yes wrap it it will cause other problems if you don’t ...like to much heat dry rotten cables ..leak valve cover or ceramic coat if you can
Did you actually say, " the Pheobe Bouchet bushing." !!! Friends FTW
Just make sure to check that left phalange!
It's Actual phalanges
Jubei Kibagami absofuckinglutely did lol😜
was that a 'Friends' reference?
Send some of that rain up to Phoenix we need it!
I just like the way wrapped pipes look.
Yes to wrapping the header. I'd suggest a cover for the turbo too
Finally girlllll!! We missed the TT 💘
She gonna sell the TT
You done a great job on Mr. Dos.
I've got the roadster TT and that's the first time I see how small those two ICs are. Well, time for an upgrade
There are times though that I already can see the dead end your working your way into and wish I could help not just shout at the TV (yup cast UA-cam to my TV)

you are lucky to keep your car clean, here in the north to keep it in shape and prevent ruest we use oil undercoating... having it all over the arm and sometimes in the hair (i hit my head few times on the underbody wich is covered) its not that great at all
